We gave this place 5 stars Feb 13, 2024 - and now update it to only 3. (Hopefully the old review remains visible...?) This place has changed for the worse since the firehouse next door was torn down for rebuilding - which after a year remains incomplete. Upon arrival the 1st impression is how their shared parking lot is now tiny because of the fenced off construction. As for the foods - too many typical selections have been replaced by mainstream American foods like french fries, batter fried chicken, etc. & too many favourites are no longer offered, sadly. The food quality has also declined & for the 1st time in years gave one of us painful digestive trouble. While trying to enjoy a peaceful meal our server came by with an angry middle aged man who spoke no English & with her help angrily demanded that we go move 1 of our 2 cars as he didn't like how we'd squeezed it in. The ambiance is just plain & unworthy of note except to say that the place & its restrooms are clean. We won't be going back as of now with the possible exception being that if/when the new, gigantic firehouse gets done & maybe their parking gets back to normal we might try it ONCE more to see if it is any better - but truthfully it isn't worth a bad stomach ache to find out. read more

We ordered delivery through Uber eats from this restaurant. We were excited to try as we'd never tried this Chinese restaurant and delivery options are few and far between in this area of New Hampshire. We spent about 140 dollars on our order and unfortunately it was a huge waste of money. The chicken wings and crab Rangoon smelled rancid. We weren't even willing to try them as the smell was so off putting. The beef with broccoli was drowned in a sauce that also had a foul (fishy) odor. I'm not sure if it was an off night for them. We read some reviews which we thought looked promising but perhaps they've had a major change because this is nowhere I'd eat again even if they offered the food for free. Food is always good. Hot and replenished quickly! Dining room is nice with booths. A lot of choices to try from salads, soups, entrees and desserts. Never feel rushed either. We happened to be in the area on a day trip. Where we are from we don't have (clean/good) buffets anymore. The staff was super helpful and friendly! My first and last time eating here. The worst Chinese food I have ever had. We were not a Happy Family (we got the dish 'Happy Family'). It was so disgusting I couldn't eat much of it. The flavor was awful. The beef was tough and chewy. Had to pull apart the chicken pieces to confirm that it was actually chicken. The broccoli was overcooked. There was a mysterious mushy cylindrically shaped substance that proliferated the dish and it was the pinnacle of disgusting. The only slightly edible thing in it was the water chestnuts. Even the white rice was bad, it tasted like minute rice. Don't waste your money here. Better to spend a litte more across the street at Peking Tokyo, where the egg rolls are a decent size, and actually crispy. The food is great and the prices not too bad for this area. You won't find "real Chinese food" in this area but it is the best Kung Pao Chicken we've found in here, short of making my own, w/Singapore chilies. The Shrimp Egg Foo Yong is also very good. As are many of the other dishes, considering this is a long way from China / Asia. It is "American-ized"... like most restaurants are when it comes to Chinese food. Let's say you're stuck in Dartmouth territory, not to see the college itself (because then you'd know people who know the food options in Lebanon and Hanover), but because you were visiting a family friend at the medical center or because you just got down from a hike at a nearby mountain. The roads are pitch black and businesses are few and far between. It's nearing 9 o'clock in the PM. Your smartphone doesn't get reception. What are you gonna do? You are going to punch in "points of interest" into a car navigator and quickly realize that Chinese food will actually be the least dodgy bet. You are going to call the three options that come up in this category and randomly go with one of the two that are open until 9:30. But when you approach your destination, you see that the name of the place is actually something terrifying such as "Tokyo Sunrise," and that the restaurant is housed in an industrial looking two-story building with a tall half-moon window through which you swear you can see a neon-lit bar and women dressed as geishas strolling around. Not in the mood, you quickly reroute yourself towards the last remaining option: Sunrise Buffet. Bear in mind that a Chinese buffet can only really attain four stars; five on rare occasions if the lineup includes sushi - with real raw fish that isn't rancid. This place didn't have sushi, but it did have legit steamed pork and shrimp shumai, lo-mein, the regular repertoire of fried American shit (fries, nuggets), mussels, General Tsao's chicken, broccoli and beef, and so on. One doesn't have to have worked in food service to know that it is super annoying when the joint is all cleaned up and customers obliviously walk in last minute. When my mother and I parked in the forlorn, hilly lot and walked in through the doors, a staff of three or four was hunkered down at one table, eating quietly. At least two of the employees hopped up to great us, masking well what would have been rightful resentment at our late visit. They showed us to the buffet, where the dredges of the day's all-you-can eat ensemble dried on metal troughs beneath hot lamps. Without missing a beat, a woman came and told us to just ask if we wanted ANY ITEM THERE made fresh. At first, I couldn't bring myself to be such a pain in the ass, but after my mom changed her mind and said she wanted an actual beef entree made-to-order, I decided I might as well piggyback on the inconvenience and ask for a couple more crab rangoons. We sat down at a comfy, cushioned booth and plowed into our meals. Lo mein was a little sweet for my liking, but was balanced out by the noteworthy hot and sour soup; the best I've had anywhere, I think, though it was kind of a game wrecker in that it filled me up a lot faster than if I had strategically forgone liquids. A third of the way through the meal, a server came up and brought my mother's humungous, piping hot beef dish along with a small plate of six fresh, hot crab rangoons, plump with their hot cheese-crab-onion fillings. Even to my untrained eye, it was excessively clear that these had been hand folded and fried fresh, unlike the perfectly triangular, thawed specimens at other places. Corny as it sounds, I was deeply touched by this service and felt very well nourished indeed. Seriously at 9:29 p.m., we were upstaged by some crazy douchebag who walked in and said that he would dine in. Consolidating our now empty plates and bowls, my mother and I watched as the staff served him with the same unrushed courtesy that we had received. By telling people that they CAN get a top notch meal last minute at this buffet, I'm not saying that they SHOULD do this. But what a comfort that the option is here at all. And it's not only by virtue of the utter lack of alternative that I'm giving a rave review of this buffet; it's good in its own right, and could stand up against any other Chinese buffet out there. And if this complete of an experience could be had at closing time, just imagine how great it would be at the start of the day...at SUNRISE, so to speak. And I did not get ill; not even after eating the leftovers the morning after they'd accidentally been left in the car (it was a cold night up in the mountains). In fact, this food saved me from the stuff that WOULD make me sick - hospital cafe food and gas station snacks. Also, the tab was less than $20 for both of us after tax and tip (and remember that my mother dearest had a fancy dinner entree of family-size proportions). RESPECT to Sunrise Buffet. read more

I went to Sunrise Buffet on a Saturday night and it was not crowded at all. We were immediately served and brought our drinks. The atmosphere was nice, with a mixture of tables and booths. The food selection (both Chinese and American) was great, with many of the dishes coming fresh out of the kitchen. The General Tso's Chicken was especially good, with crispy fried chicken smothered in a sweet sauce. The chicken and mushrooms, pan-sauteed garlic green beans, crab rangoons, as well as the teriyaki chicken skewers were some of the highlights. Sunrise Buffet also has a wide array of desert options, including cream puffs, sprinkled sugar donuts, tiramisu, and four different kinds of ice cream. Piece of metal found in my food!!!!! See in photo's Today I went to the sunrise buffet during my lunch break therefore I was limited on time. I got a few things that looked very good. Checked out and my meal came to about 4.50. awesome! Little did I know I had a piece of metal in my food. After I ate my last piece of chicken I noticed a large shiny metal object laying on the bottom of my container. Shocked at what I saw I immediately called the restaurant from work demanding a refund. I could have easily chipped a tooth, choked or consumed this object. Being pregnant with my first child I was very thankful this was not consumed by a child. The woman I spoke with on the phone acted like it was no big deal. She said I would need to return my food and physically go there for my 4.50 refund. Working in customer service since I was 18.. Now 27.. I knew immediately this restaurant is not looking out for the best interest of their customers. The woman said "It was probably from one of our pans". My response "not an excuse, I could have choked or chipped a tooth, I am not making an extra trip out of my way to get a refund." I asked to speak to the manager and the women stated they don't speak English. After about another 5 minutes of speaking my mind the woman finally agreed to refund my 4.50. Never offered a gift card or anything on my behalf. I will never go to this restaurant again. This is dangerous. I have told all the people I work with what happened and was informed by a co-worker that this exact thing happened to her as well with a piece of metal and she did not get a refund. I have to laugh when I read some of these reviews. I went to this place at least once a week for years. Here is the good, bad and ugly. Good- chicken wings are great. Best pickled calamari I have ever had, shrimp in a garlic sauce to die for. They also from time to time at night have hard shell clams that I devour. Teriyaki skewers great. Overall the buffet is darn good. "IF" you get there when it first comes out. The BAD- Many times the buffet becomes void of hot food for much longer than actually acceptable. The people that sit you could really care if you are there and you seem to be more of a hindrance than a customer. The UGLY- I have called to see if they had clams on the night menu before going. I was advised they did. When I got there, rather than being seated I said I wanted to check out the buffet. The lady knew it was me and not only chased me around the buffet, she chased me through the parking lot when I left as there were no clams. She was yelling all the way. I had a friend go last week and he advised me he'd never go back. Said he was in the bathroom and one of the cooks came out of the stall and walked back into the kitchen without washing his hands. Great service, very friendly staff. They are very attentive to the buffet, always checking it. I appreciated the sign pointing out that customers should let them know if the food gets cold. Large selection of food. Art on the walls was lovely as well - a nice variety. Bathrooms are soso. Men's bathroom had a broken lock on one stall last time I was there. I like this restaurant. I've eaten here many times. They reopened a few weeks ago for take out only and I stopped by a couple of times. Today when I went to pick up my order, the buffet was also open - with 4 or 5 locals serving themselves WITH NO MASKS. I can't say I blame the restaurant owners, they are all wearing masks, and with all the news stories about morons getting violent when asked to wear masks, why should they risk safety when they are just trying to stay in business. No, I blame our local moron population. I see them at the supermarket, etc refusing to wear masks though every business has signs saying masks are required. I saw one arguing with a shop owner over his rights being violated. You can't fix stupid. Maybe we will need a second wave to convince these imbeciles to act responsibly - but if they haven't learned anything yet, I doubt they have the capacity to figure it out. I wonder if they are under new management because they've gotten better. The food has been pretty good the last 2 times we went to the buffet and the staff tries to be friendly with their limited English. There are many items available and even some seafood at the (cheaper) lunch buffet. This is a major improvement from 2 years ago. The only problem is if you order take out on the fly and have to stand and wait for it. They seem quite confused what to do with you while your order is cooking. They sort of shuffle you to a table to sit down out of the way. Twice this has happened and they are abrupt about it. Call in your order ahead and pick it up when it's ready. Otherwise it's awkward. This is right around the corner from where I work. Wife really likes it, I think it's pretty good. Main selection is good, food is fresh, restaurant is clean. My wife and I both consider it to be much better than Peking-Tokyo, and a good buffet option to China Station. I've eaten there at least ten times in the past year - usually for lunch - and the consistency has been good. I especially like the broccoli chicken and fried fish ( which I then sneak some General Tsou's sauce thereon ).
