Full disclosure...I was in the mood for sushi. I found a Japanese restaurant that happens to be right around the corner from Sunrise Pizza. Sadly, the sushi joint is closed on Tuesdays. Let's hear it for happy accidents! I love old school pizzeria's with all different kinds of slices behind the counter...one looking better than the next. I spied the grandma pizza and had to have it. Two slices, in fact. Thinking that might not be enough (since I didn't really eat today), I ordered one of the salad slices to try and be "good". I'm so fat and happy right now. These folks make really good pizza. Sauce, crust...everything is exactly what it should be. My local pizzeria! The guys are great and the food is delicious. Very fast service with no attitude. We especially like the chicken ala vodka pizza but it goes fast from the case. I have to admit I disliked this place when I first moved here as the guy at the counter was an ass and they didn't take CC. But I started coming here during Covid and that guy was gone. The pizzeria is in downtown Rye with mostly street parking, but there is a small lot to the side. The place is small but is clean and well maintained. The staff were very nice dudes and knew other customers by name. Everyone knows the rules, when you try a pizzeria for the first time, you need to try a plain slice. I got the plain slice and a sausage slice. The tomato sauce was a nice balance between sweet and acidic. The dough wasn't anything special but the crust was crispy and thin. I usually prefer the sliced sausage but the crumbled on this pizza worked. I was very turned off by the price. Two slices came out to almost $10, absurd. The employees are nice and the restaurant seems well maintained. The pizza was better than average but I won't make a special trip for it. For the price I wouldn't come back. read more

I rated this establishment years ago. That being said I've gone frequently for years. What I am about to comment is not about the quality of the food or the menu. I went in tonight at around 9:30 pm. There were some slices left when I came in but I asked if they would have anything else coming out? Preferably a few plain slices. They told me no, I'd have to order a whole pie. I was hesitant at first considering if I should just leave and skip it for tonight, but decided to order the pie and wait for it. While I was sitting there a fresh pie came out and they put it for display on the counter. I didn't say anything but it rubbed me the wrong way as I had just asked and their response was no. As I was checking out for the pie I ordered, I asked for one of the pepperoni garlic rolls. Alex has always given me one when I stop in. I was told no, they come in an order. We called in on a Friday night knowing it would be busy. We dropped in at the time we were told on the phone but then needed to wait an additional 20 min. The pizza and rolls were good. I'd try again, but think you can find a better pizza in the area. May be better to run in and grab a slice instead of ordering a pie. A tiny in-town pizzeria where you'll find us on most Fridays. The service here can be described as controlled chaos. You holla your order at the front man, Alex, he yells back "7 dolla!" and you hand him $7 for your specialty slice and a bottle of Snapple. The array of specialty slices in the glass case include Buffalo Chicken, Grandma & Grandpa, Chicken Bacon Ranch, Penne a la Vodka, Chicken Scarpariello, any of which will fill you up for lunch. My favorite, of course is the Chicken Marsala slice loaded with chunks of chicken and mushrooms in a sweet/savory sauce. These are usually pre-made before the lunch rush and heated up as you order. Rarely when they have a really large order to fill, like for a party at a local school, the specialty pies don't get made in time, but you can settle for a fresh made plain cheese slice. For a change of pace, you can have fresh made calzones, meatball, sausage or chicken rolls, stuffed hero sandwiches and even fresh cooked pasta dishes like spaghetti and meatballs. The store is not very big and seating can be limited especially during the school year when the local kids come here for lunch. This is why sometimes it pays to order in advance when we call in an order for a large pie to eat in or take out. And don't forget dessert! It's not on the menu, but on a little sign on the wall at the end of the counter, they offer fresh made cannoli. The shells are made daily, but they're not filled with cream until you order. My wife and I were traveling from Houston Tx to Maine with our RV. We ended up breaking down in Rye NY. We ended up having to get a hotel room for the night while waiting for roadside assistance to show up. Since it was July 4th and getting late, we knew food options weren't going to be great, not to mention we were exhausted from driving for 2 days non stop. I jumped on Uber Eats and started looking for pizza close to the hotel. We came across Sunrise pizza and the reviews were good. My wife is NOT a pizza fan, but she was hungry and said she would eat a slice or 2 and get over it. We ordered a pizza for each of us, and some drinks. They showed up pretty quickly, especially for being a holiday. Let me just tell you, my wife not really liking pizza, Said after the first bite, "Holy sh*t, this is delicious. This is the best pizza I've ever eaten" It was so good she woke up in the middle of the night to heat up a couple pieces, and also had it for breakfast the next day. The fact that she ate an entire small pizza on her own over the course of 2 days speaks volumes. We're even considering ordering a pizza to take with us in the rest of our road trip. The only advice I would give the restaurant, clarify the sizes online. Not knowing how big a small is, we almost ordered a Large.
