Ordered takeout - meat lovers and a grandma pie, we thought the meat combo was a bit salty but is to be expected when you're getting pepperoni and sausage. The grandma was good for that order. Second time ordered just grandma and the cheese had an odd smell and did not taste like mozzarella, tasted very old. The 4 adults tried it and then ended up throwing it out. Last Friday I was out late shopping and Google'd pizza and Al Dente popped up. I drove over there and although it was late, there were some really good looking sausage slices. I got one to go and while I was eating, I was thinking this is a really good slice. I wanted to get another, but it was now 10pm so they were closing. Went home and told my wife about this spot we need to try out. Fast forward to last night and it the pouring rain we took a 20+ minute ride out to Rye. Ordered a large pie over the phone for pick-up. The box felt light, but I put it on my backseat and drove him. Man what a terrible pie. It was thin, lacked cheese and was much smaller than what I remember last week's sausage slice to be like. This Al Dente pie was reminiscent of a Brooklyn "dollar slice". Pure garbage. never going back. read more

We had a party of 10 out of towners looking for a local Italian place, and called about a reservations. She said don't worry, we'll seat you. We arrived and the table was set up, so a great first impression. The place is small, so we took up half the seating, but it looked like most of their business is take out, so no worries. The server was very busy handling both pickups and table service, but she wasn't phased, and was happy taking care of us. We ordered a couple salads, several pizzas and a couple bottles of wine, and had a blast. No complaints about the food. Overall a great experience. I pointed to it and said I'll have one of those. The man behind the counter said it wasn't cut yet and wouldn't budge on his stance. And proceeded to warm up a very old and tired slice that was not in full view of the customer. I got violently sick from this slice. It was not even edible! Personally, I would give No Stars. My wife and I went there tonight (first time for me) to get three slices of pizza. First off, my wife is short and she couldn't see the selection on the top shelf. We she asked about the selection in one spot with at least two different types, she was told only one. This guy had to answer the phone, so Mr. Personality from the back took over. Inside of a few minutes, he argued and gave us snide/rude comments at least three times. Even I being taller, I couldn't see what was going on behind the counter and they gave us four slices, instead of the three we ordered, so when we were charged over $22, my wife questioned why? I asked the cashier how much are slices? His answer "I don't know..." and he turned and walked away. My wife opened the box and we saw four slices instead of three, we told them they made a mistake. This turned out to be Mr. Personality from the back's third snide/rude comment. We got money back for the extra slice, but walked out of there fuming...NEVER AGAIN!!! This last year I have ordered several times from Al Dente. I find their Buffalo Chicken pizza with the blue cheese and celery to be excellent. However on 10/29/2023 I ordered a small plain pizza, an italian combo wedge and a chicken cutlet sandwich. I would be embarrassed to serve this food on this day. Pizza was tasteless, literally. The chicken was so thin and dry I actually thought it was the remnants of the breading in the grease of the pan. Lastly the italian combo was the worst assortment of cold cuts I ever observed on any sandwich where I thought I bought it from a dirty bodega in a run down city. We LOVE Al Dente! During the whole pandemic we tried to keep our food ordering to a minimum but usually ordered here once a week. We always get the Grandma pie. My dad loves a good pizza and when my parents come for dinner they always request it - definitely a favorite of our family's. Their avocado salad with grilled chicken is really good also! Horrific food and even worse customer service. They Got a dish in our order wrong and we could barely get someone on the phone to discuss. We were told at first that the manager was "too busy." When we finally got him on the phone he was rude, aggressive and unapologetic. My food arrived not as advertised and was cold. Walked in on a whim as I had been shopping in the area. Old school Pizza joints have sort of been over shadowed by wood fired, fancier joints. One bite of Al Dente and I morphed back to being 12 again, biking up to our local pizza shop never disappointed with what a dollar would get us. At Al Dente, the crust was flavorful, chewy where it embraced just the right amount of sauce. The staff was welcoming, friendly in a natural, yet highly sarcastic, local sort of way. I live in the Bronx. Some of the best slices in the state... I've had some of the best NY has to offer.. but let me tell you something about this.. Classic walk in, display is full of specialty slices. The cheese was as generic looking as can be but FAR from it. Came back the same day and had a margherita slice with some Garlic Knots. Unfortunately my grandson did NOT know this and picked up a pie and salads from here and brought them to our home. It was so awful we had to throw it out! I agree the food is good but the customer service side of the business is beyond horrible. I have been ordering from here several times a week for the last year. Tonight, I placed an order online and then called a minute later to make a change, they claimed Monday is a slow night and order is already made up (2 minutes after it was ordered) and there is nothing they can do. Then they gave me a list of issues with online orders versus over the phone (really, this is your business and you set it up this way). I agreed to just accept the order. Well, it is now over a hour since the discussion about a really slow night and I still don't have the food. I just called and they claimed it got super busy right after I called and only have 2 delivery people. They seem to have an excuse for everything. When you pick up from them make sure your order is correct. I got take out last night and the pasta primavera had very little sauce. They don't give utensils unless you ask. The town of Rye is absolutely charming and this restaurant is in the most charming part of downtown Rye. I had the seafood pasta, chicken wings, and Caesar salad. All were excellent. I took a shot in the dark when I originally ordered from this place because I work nearby but I can honestly say I've been pleasantly pleased with this place. My coworkers and I feel they are one of the best values for good old school Italian food. Excellent sandwiches and specialty pizza rolls. Their pizza by the slice is also very good. Considering that they are in Rye, the prices aren't too bad either. The service is very good here too. In the times that I've ordered from here, I've only experienced one mistake which they very generously corrected. In these times that kind of service is appreciated. read more

Our favorites are penne vodka (daughters favorite) and chicken scarpello (husbands favorite) and my absolute favorite, the Sicilian Caprese hands down. We ordered, for Christmas, a six foot hero and a tray of Chicken Francese and Penne Vodka. All were delicious, with generous portions for a great price. This is one of the BEST pizza places in town. I went there to just get two slices of pizza, the workers were very nice, the place was very nice, and the pizza was great. First off, the workers greeted me with a smile and welcomed me to the restaurant. You could tell they liked their job. Secondly, the place was well put out and definitely nice. It is located on the corner of the town and usually there is parking to get there. The actually place though is nice. It has a few tables and isn't too big which makes it easy to go in and out.
