I can't believe it's taken me this long to write a review of Sunrise. This unassuming strip mall Vietnamese restaurant is part of the fabric of my life. We've been coming here for over ten years. We and the proprietors have watched one another's kids grow up. From casual, post-workout lunches to birthday celebrations, Sunrise owns a permanent spot at the top of our rotation. What makes this place so good? The decor and ambiance are entirely without pretense, yet the food is absolutely top-notch. Whether it's pho on a cold day or vermicelli salad on a hot one, I've never been disappointed. The service is personalized and attentive as only a family restaurant can be. All this, and the prices are very reasonable. I'm so glad that Sunrise is our neighborhood Vietnamese restaurant. I look forward to dining there for many years to come. read more

One of the first places that shows up in Newport when you're looking for Phō so we stopped in for dinner on a chilly night. It was quiet inside and not very busy. The waiter took our order quickly and answered any questions well. The food came out right after we finished our appetizers and it was delicious. We hadn't been in here in a few years after getting take out and being disappointed. Decided to give it another try last night and sadly we are done. I got the cashew chicken and my spouse got the crispy chicken lo mein. We ordered off a take out paper menu and when we saw the total for two meals, we were shocked. Turns out the cashew chicken went from $11.95 to $18 and the lo mein went from $14.95 to $20! That's quite a jump. To top it off it was lacking flavor. Very bland. We had a delicious dinner here! I had the tofu vegetable with beef broth pho and my bf got what he says was the round steak pho. We also got spicy tofu vegetable stir fry which was a surprise stand out. I think that's the best tofu stir fry I've ever had! The tofu was perfectly crisp, there were an assortment of vegetables (cauliflower, broccoli, string beans, carrots), and the sauce was so flavorful, in that sweet spicy way that keeps you coming back for more. We were warned that the Thai coffee was very strong, so my bf didn't get that, although he was tempted to. I noticed that they had a good selection of boba tea flavors- including red bean, taro, and avocado- which sounded good as well. We'll have to try some drinks next time. read more

I ordered a large Pho Combo. The Pho tastes okay . Sad part was they are stingy on the veggie as you see on the picture . I have to ask for more . Then there was no jalapeño. What's Kind of Pho without Jalapeño ? The server told me that they only have chili paste. I also ordered the grill lemongrass chicken to go . The chicken was tender but no lemongrass on the chicken or the aroma of it . I was kinda disappointed. Again , very stingy with the veggie . Customer services were bad . We love this place. It's simple fresh Vietnamese Food. We have only had the pho, summer rolls, and the fresh Boba fruit smoothies. Pho has a really great broth and nice amount of meat. While not the absolute best I have tasted its still really great. And considering the lack of competition in the area it's still a solid 5 stars. The pineapple smoothie is absolutely awesome. They use real fresh fruit and the it tastes great. If they open one of these stands near the beach they will be gazillionaires. Keep up the good work Sunrise. Oh they close on Sundays. Which is a bummer when you really crave some Pho. But kudos to the owners for taking some time off to spend at church and with family. read more

Sunrise is my go to place for great pho and other Vietnamese cuisine. Their nime chow is the best, as is their vermicelli. I can never turn down their pho though. I always get the b8 loaded with every kind of goodness imaginable! They have a fair amount of tables for being in such a limited space. They tend to draw a crowd around lunchtime, so make sure you have time to spend here or call ahead for takeout. The best part about Sunrise is that they are consistent. And Sunrise would be in that category. It is a bit hard to notice as it sits back off W Main in a small strip mall behind the Firestone store. Good news - plenty of parking. The service was very efficient and friendly. They have a HUGE menu from appetizers to pho to fried to vermicelli. We split the summer rolls (2 for $7) which were well packed with shrimp and pork. I know I'm in the majority in the US of people who want soup when they're sick. Particularly chicken soup seems to be engrained in us from an early age as a go-to sickness remedy. I for one opt for pho or Mexican chicken tortilla soup, and now that I'm in RI , this is where I go for my pho fix. The restaurant is conveniently located just off West main road near one of the seemingly zillion Dunkin donuts. Parking can be a pain when the other businesses are packed, but 50/50 chance you can find parking pretty easy. The interior looks nice, like many of the Vietnamese restaurants I've been to across the Nation. The staff are warm and friendly, and service is super prompt. I usually opt for the pho ga or chicken pho, and hubby usually gets fried rice or soup. I've also had their spring rolls which are solid. I've tried to make pho at home and despite my many investigations into it, I just can never get the flavor quite right. I told this to the owner and she giggled at me and said it's a secret and just to let her do the work. Sound advice, and some I will continue to follow and come here for my pho needs. read more

Tried Sunrise again. I'm glad they're still around, but the issues remain the same. While the dishes are tasty, they really skimp on all proteins. Ordered takeout from Sunrise for dinner tonight, after having consecutive American meals upon our arrival in Rhode Island. (We can't go too long without Vietnamese food lol.) I found Sunrise on Yelp and knew we had to try it out, given the photos of pork vermicelli, banh mi and pho all looked authentic. Those entrees were exactly what we ordered (+ 2 iced Vietnamese coffees) and it was the right decision! The restaurant did not disappoint and the food were delicious (even better than some Viet joints in NYC frankly...). We over-ordered because everything sounded so good, but all entrees were consumed! We came here on a week day early afternoon and lot of places were closed. We were craving pho since it was cold, we're used to 80 degree weather.
