Here for 20 years and I'm only just discovering it now?!?!…read more So so so good. Shiahito peppers sauce so good. Miso something. Sashimi tasting so good. Tuna flight ok. No takabe nigiri next time. Yes to chef style bincho--- my favorite. Sake flight with fruit was all delicious.

4.5/5 stars. This is probably one of the best meal experiences I've had in recent memory…read more What really sets this place apart is the ambiance, the attention to detail from the wait staff, and the food itself. Let's start with the ambiance, something about this place makes you feel like you're sitting inside a salt rock, it's extremely calming and the antithesis of more modern loud music/noisy restaurants. The space seems thoughtful and really elevates the experience in my opinion. Our waitress was extremely kind, knowledgeable , and very helpful with ordering. Again her presence lended to the calming atmosphere. The food 4/5 stars. The menu offered small, medium, larger plates along classic sushi roles, sashimi, nigiri etc. Overall, the menu appears to be (and is in fact) very thoughtful. We started with the kale salad (not pictured). It was PERFECTLY dressed, this is a rare feat in the kale salad game. I mean absolutely delicious I would highly reccomend this as a starter. We then got the karage, which was just OK (however you can see how thoughtful they are with the pairing of micro greens, lemon, and aioli) I just think the flavor could be a little bit more elevated on this particular dish. We then got the RIP roll, which was delicate and delicious. We also got the crunchy rice bites, which came deconstructed. While everything tasted good, I wonder if this would be better enjoyed already constructed! We finished off with a vegan ice cream cookie sandwich thing which was absolutely delicious. Overall this was an amazing meal; I think the food is pretty good but it was the entire experience that really elevated this meal :) strongly recommend

Having just coming back from Japan, me and my wife were craving the experience. So far our favorites have been the sashimi salad, lava salmon, citrus YTJ roll. These are a must order every time. The fresh sashimi salad with their citrus dressing is super refreshing. There's a healthy amount of fish in it too for only $9!! The skewers are authentically prepared. Japanese skewers are on the smaller size but the prices reflect that too. The chicken skewers are less than $3 each which is really nice in this economy. The wagyu skewers are really good too but $8.50 each. My favorite part is you can try so many different options for so cheap. Highly recommend.

We ordered the Portland Timber, Rainbow (w/real crab), and the Big Easy. All amazing. Super fresh fish, good portions, didn't skimp on the good stuff. The miso was also delicious. The boyfriend also said their old fashioned was the best he's ever had. Which is saying something, because he orders those almost everywhere we go....he loves those things. We stayed for dessert, which we don't normally do, but good thing we did because the Matcha crème brûlée was a surprising combo that we loved. Staff was friendly and service was timely. I wish I had pictures but we eat before the cameras unfortunately for yall Would very much recommend!!

Maybe the idea is to help with any language barrier -- the server spoke fluent English, while often the sushi chefs do not -- but we found him way too attentive. We sat at the bar so we could interact with the sushi chefs. We did talk with a chef, but his advice wasn't very specific. So...despite plenty of suggestions from the server, and some advice from the chef, and a long time perusing and discussing the extensive menu, we still weren't sure what to order. We finally went with a combo and were disappointed to see it served in a boat! That just seemed like a gimmicky, touristy thing, we would have preferred a plate. The fish actually was very good, and so were the salads. A shrimp nigiri was the only misstep, as the shrimp was overcooked. I guess I would return to this place -- hopefully on that server's day off! And make sure my order is not coming on a little boat. And skip the shrimp.
