This is by far the gem of sunset park for a Real diner experience. I can't say anything bad about this place except maybe the size. It isn't as big as normal city diners and can leave you waiting for a seat. The food is good American diner food. Great breakfast brunch spot with a good cup of coffee. It's just a diner so don't come here for special effects or wifi and machiato's. Average food. Some selections are better than others. Good: Eggs, toast, Teacher's s/w, Portobello Wrap & shakes. Bad: Pasta with Tomato Sauce (watery, flavorless) and sometimes, the pickles. It sucks when you get an old pickle. Cheap and quick diner. They got this right. I think this is probably the best diner in the area or if you can even find any other beside all those mexican places. We go a full breakfast for less than $20 including everything. The food is so so which I don't think anyone can brag about. Service is good while it's not busy of course. Who knows. I remember coming here few years back with my newly graduated friends at 3 am in the morning and they served up some good sandwich. I believe they are famous for their wings. As one of the only games in the area for diner food, Sunset Park Diner isn't bad. The food quality is patchy though, so you're taking a chance each time you eat there (sometimes great and sometimes horrible...it runs the full gamut). Good items (usually): salad (NOT iceberg! and fresh!), pasta dishes and wraps...sometimes the meatloaf entrée too. OK items: hamburger, grilled chicken (though once it tasted like eggs...) Bad items: breakfast (I have eaten breakfast in a lot of diners all over the US and this is BAD!) and anything fried (always overcooked and hard). If you mention a problem with the food to the waiters, they'll usually take a couple of bucks off, and sometimes they'll give you donuts for free, just because. I've eaten both dine-in and delivery, and the quality is pretty much the same (though patchy) across both. The food always arrives hot and FAST if you order delivery. Also, you always get HUGE portions, so plan to have at least two meals out of an entrée order, especially if you go for a pasta dish. (Your copious amounts of pasta will come with a nice-sized salad and a garlic "roll", which you always have to ask for, they won't give you half the time anyway, and it's just a hamburger bun that they put on the grill - no joke). I am a fan, because outside of the delis and 24-hour convenience stores, this is the only place that has food available all day, every day- and they deliver 24/7 as well. That gets them two stars. The other two stars is because they are extremely hit-or-miss. Best bet is a burger, or the french fries/onion rings (crispy, please). Avoid pasta, and anything with avocado. I always open my panini and see the brown avocado slices and my heart sinks. Milkshakes are good, but depending on deliverytimes might arrive a bit melted. Can't blame them there though, as the only 24 hour delivery place in the area, I bet the delivery guys are running around like crazy. read more

The staff is always super friendly, the food is excellent and the price is very affordable (even though it's cash only which is kind of a pain, at least there's an ATM). My favorites on the menu are the buffalo chicken wrap and the open face pastrami Reuben. Also great you can get a Sam Adams with your food for like $4. My only complaint is that they fill up too fast, which is like complaining about your favorite band's concerts filling up too fast. Despite their popularity, their prices are incredibly affordable for the neighborhood. Which is made all the more shocking given the stellar quality of their food. This was going to start out as a bad review, but they just happened to call me the moment i started typing this and offered to comp my delivery because they never actually made it and hour after it was placed. This was the only time i've ever had a real hiccup with them, but it's good to know they own up to their mistakes and are happy to make up for it to keep a customer. I've ordered from Sunset probably 8x+ now and they're always really friendly on the phone and they usually slip a free doughnut into the bag when i get my dinner, which is both funny and sweet. I didnt get to try their food because they wanted to charge me $14.50 for pasta with marinara sause. thats it! and i asked how much it would be for 1 piece of chicken and it upcharged to $18.50 . meanwhile they got -alfredo for $12, vodka sause for $12, carbonara for $13! and chicken parm for $15!! but only marinara sause is $14.50 and with 1 piece of grilled chicken is $18.50?? even tho its the same exact thing as chicken parm except for grilled instead of fried chicken. not to mention i didnt want the soup or salad and when i asked her can i get something instead she was like huhhh?. yeah thats insane. the person in charge should either fix their prices or explain to the staff how it works because obviously someones not getting the message properly. read more

Always a solid meal here. Disco fries are heaven. Burgers are good, BLTs, wraps and all egg plates. Coffee refills that you don't need to ask for is great. They'll usually try to memorize your order without writing it down and pretty much always fuck it up, but who cares? It's a diner and it all tastes good. Skip the French onion soup. read more

We were tired of ordering from the same restaurants in Bay Ridge, so we decided to order from here and we were pleasantly surprised. The man who took our phone order was very nice, polite and patient and gave me an accurate time frame in order for me to go pick up the food. When I arrived my order was ready and the gentleman at the register was again super nice and even seemed caring. The guy who was also waiting in line to pay told me that I wasn't going to be disappointed with the food here and that he had been coming here for years...Once I got back to my house and began to eat all the things we had ordered, we were super happy...everything was very tasty and we decided that from now on we are going to order from here. Their menu is pretty extensive, so you are sure to find something that calls to you and most likely it will be very tasty. If I could give zero stars I would. I placed an order at 1 am after getting home from Governor's Ball. It still wasn't here by 2:20 am so I called them. The woman who answered the phone said, "The person you need to speak to is in the bathroom. Give me your number and he'll call you back." She giggled like a child when she said he was in the bathroom. He never called back. The burger and appetizer sampler was still not here by 3 am so I called GrubHub and they canceled it and gave me a refund. I come here when I get my car inspected/ oil changed at Zambdand's on 42nd st. I get my two scrambled eggs and French toast in 4 minutes flat. Always cooked terrifically. Clean bright place. Was unimpressed with this place to say the least. First they were out of spinach pie, which was understandable at 2 am. Fine. The waiter took our order and literally messed up everything. They forgot my girlfriends food, messed up all the sides with my friends meatloaf, and forgot the cheese on my burger. The appetizers and entrees came out and the salads were brought out later. A bit weird... The salads were satisfactory. Best thing I tried was the gyro. It had good flavor and came with a big salad which was very tasty. However, the chicken wings were terrible. They were greasy, burned, and lacked flavor. The meatloaf was dry and the sides were ok. The gravy was obviously instant. Fries were under-cooked but had potential. Ohh and my food: My burger was a complete abortion. I love burgers. They may be my favorite food. For the first time in my life, I sent my burger back! It tasted like a wet dog smells and my entire party agreed. The only reason this place gets 2 stars is because they took it off the bill when the waiter noticed I did not eat the food. Terrible. To top it off I had the worst music experience of my life. The entire time we were there they repeated the same song: a Spanish version of "Still the One" by Shania Twain. Wow. I am forever scared... You get what you pay for and therefore you get three stars: A-OK place. No outlets and no usable wifi, so not a particularly nice study/work on your laptop location. This is my favorite diner by far. Tasty breakfast food (we really only go for brunch) is served up quickly. The fresh-squeezed orange juice is the bomb, and the eggs Florentine are perfect. Just placed an order for myself & my coworkers 3 burgers with fries, and an order of onion rings. Highly disappointed to say we found a long black hair in one of the burgers, when we called the manager suggested we dig the food out of the garbage to bring back to the store for him to evaluate for a refund, as the manager stated he receives calls like this everyday & would go out of business if he issued a refund before checking the food himself. 5/6/18 9:30 am. Greeted and seated immediately. She ordered coffee with cream, egg whites with bacon and toast. She was fine with her order except the homefries were browned boiled potatoes. I had coffee with milk and the 3 egg 3 meat plate. My eggs over easy with bacon, double sausage and rye toast. It was a nice dish but, the homefries need seasoning or maybe some onions and peppers.
