Nice local park with a lot of options to walk the dog or play basketball softball or bring the kids to one of the several Junglegyms. There are no vending machines are the properties so if you want anything to eat you should bring it from a gas station close by which there are plenty of. There's plenty of seating and lots of chairs and tables throughout the park to sit some that are shaded. Park maintenance does a good job keeping the place clean. If you go between the hours of 9 and 12 in the AM you might run into some sprinklers so beware of that. read more

Ive been told for many years that I was actually conceived in this park. Maybe thats why I have such a bond with it. Thats right my parents used to come here in the 80's and do it on a blanket in the park. I pretty much grew up in this park. I have been coming here since I was born. My favorite was always the duck pond. It used to look different back in the late 80's ,not as clean but just as fun. My family would come here every Sunday and BBQ. The playground has gone through a few face lifts. A long time ago there used to be horse swings, and a slide and a huge monster truck tire that you could climb into. The new park is OK.. Im not really into the new playground, I miss the old stuff and all the old trees they cut down. NO NEED TO CUT DONW ALL THE 20+ YEAR OLD TREES. THE ONLY RESON I GIVE 4 STARS IS BECAUSE I THINK THEY RAPED THE OLD PARK WITH A BUNCH OF NEW STUFF THATS NOT AS COOL AS THE OLD PARK. PLUS WHY ON EARTH WOULD YOU CUT DOWN 20 YEAR OLD TREES TO INSTAL PLASTIC CRAP!!!?!?!?!??!??!?!!!!?!??! I seriously cannot get over this. I like the new trails and the fact that they didn't destroy all the natural wild life areas. Tons of rabbits and other little animals make their home there. I know about 25 years ago we set our rabbits free in the park. Probably helping multiply the population of rabbits. Please don't fuck up the park anymore... Half of the original stuff has been totally screwed because of the new development, which I find rather annoying anyways. Nice park with lots of wildlife (birds, ducks, geese, rabbits, etc.) around (ie. distractions for my dog- she tries to chase 'em). Nice tracks and trails for walking. It's a nice recreation area- some people are fishing, there are tennis courts and softball fields, some people jog or walk, some families bring their children, sometimes there is an ice cream truck selling ice cream. The Dog Park is in two sections- one for small dogs (20 lbs., I think), one for big dogs (best for huge dog breeds). I used to bring my dog here- probably one of the best dog parks around. It is popular, so at times, it can get crowded. It's nice to let the dogs run around. But you don't want your dog to drink from the community watering tanks, though. It's best to bring your own water bowl and water (bring a backpack). For the most part, I think my Labrador-Pit Bull mix only got into a couple of skirmishes, but my dog is rarely the instigator, it's my medium sized cocker spaniel that does that! (That's why we couldn't bring him there.) read more

I just recently moved to the area and wanted to find some things to do with my dog. They have HUGE off leash dog park that is on the North end of the park. The pond in the center of the park is also really beautiful and you can tell the park is really well taken care of and very clean. My dog loved watching all the ducks and geese! Love this park ! Very easy to find and it isn't on sunset ! We came here on a weekday morning , not many people or doggies were there. Duke had a blast still. There's two section one for under 35 pounds and another one for the bigger dogs. There was plenty of room. It was very nice to have a few bowl for the pups around the park. We've been playing disc golf here at Sunset for 2 years. We still love the course (although we're puzzled as to why some of the pins are up SO high lately.) This review, however, is for the staff, and for reserved picnic areas. My husband and I got married at Sunset Park a little less than a month ago. We had reserved the Desert Willow picnic area: A section of the park covered and shaded by beautiful trees, with picnic tables and seating enough for 100 people. The staff was extremely helpful during the reservation time, and also when I called with questions regarding our contract. The section itself is beautiful, and while we did clean the picnic tables themselves (birds, dust, etc), the section was clean and well kept. The only issue is the provided grill...its filthy, and I wouldn't use it...we brought our own in. I think that's more the fault of the people who use the section and don't clean up after themselves, but someone from the park should probably take a look into cleaning it... I would recommend reserving a section of the park for any party. read more

This is my favorite dog park in all of Las Vegas. The best time to go is right when the sun is going down. The small dog area is always packed. The large dog area is usually pretty busy. There's always a huge variety of friendly dogs and nice dog owners. Always make sure you look down when walking around because not everybody cleans up after their dogs. It's so huge. Tons of park area and even more activity areas. Sand volleyball, tennis, biking, football, soccer . . . But basically, I've only utilized the grassy knolls and the play areas and these are substantial as well. Playgrounds - In the new section (I don't know the name of the road but you enter off of Sunset between Tomiyasu and Mountain Vista, west of The Newt-er's house - Wayne Newton!) there is a really cool park for kids and a walking path. We'll be taking my son's trike back for a ride on the path. The playground stuff is totally new age in this area - seriously, like a playground I have never seen - but my son had a blast and the other kids there were loving it as well. There are normal playgrounds in the main area - we've loved playing on those as well. Grassy Knolls - What more can I say, it's a grassy knoll, what's not to love. Lake / wildlife- I haven't been in ages, but before my dog, Sage, died (teardrop:( ) we went on a couple walk's there. We used to walk around it (or "scoop the loop" as we called it at the lake back home-not as big of a loop, but still apropos). It's cool because you feel like you are in the great outdoors in the middle of a city. My dad said he had seen coyotes there - but that was year's ago - I doubt they are still there with all the urban sprawl in the area. read more

Great well maintained park. That's where it stops being great. Lately the patrons completely disregard all the common sense rules that make dog parks work for everyone. It's about what works for everyone and minimizing risks. 1: keep dogs in THEIR designated areas large and small. 2: keep dogs leashed on the way in AND out. 3: small 30-50 pound children running loose with 15 unknown up to 130 pound dogs is never a good idea. Mom? Dad? Not all large dogs like children. 4: fighter dogs brought in to test aggression 1: Small Dog Owners repeatedly bring their snack sized dogs into large dog areas because their dog "thinks" he's a big dog. We've had 2 mauling deaths recently. Very sad- dogs are pack animals. They smell blood and all dive in. No one wants this to happen. Please stop. Follow the rules. They're POSTED for a reason. 2: Leash Laws. Ignored by good % of patrons who's dogs free range from parking lot to dog park. This isn't cool. Your unleashed dog running up to my dogs just out of the car who are ON leash to say hello isn't precious, cute or funny. It's dangerous and sets off aggression. Follow the rules! 3: Small children, smelling like diapers, food. Running loose in middle of large dog park with unknown dogs. This is dangerous beyond words. C'mon mom & dad. Think about how fast this could go wrong. 4: fighting dogs.....sad. Their owners will let them agress until everyone retreats to the parking lot and they're left there with no one to irritate then they leave and we all go back inside. Confrontation works: "hey, get control of your dog." Calling for police to patrol by works too. They suddenly get the urge to leave. 2 stars for patrons. 5 Stars for park. Avoid weekends in general -- esp if drunks in lawn chairs with unruly dogs aren't your thing. read more

I ran the Deja Vu Marathon that took place during the Thanksgiving weekend at the Historical Walk trail at the southern part of the park. The loop was about 1 mile in length. It was fairly flat and having run 25 loops, I got quite familiar with that loop. It looked like a nice spot to train for an endurance race or for a leisurely walk away from cars if you live in the area. read more

In addition to that there are several sport activities you can play here. There is a softball field, frisbee golf course, volley ball, tennis, basketball, and an open field to play in. I love this dog park, big area, lots of different terrain for the dogs and my pup loves it, however, SMALL DOG OWNERS PLEASE STOP BRINGING YOUR DOGS INTO THE LARGE DOG AREA!!!! The last two times at the dog park I saw three separate small dogs in the large dog area. - All three dogs were overwhelmed, defensive, and had to be pulled away repeatedly for almost biting other dogs. - All three dogs left after the dogs clearly could not socialize well with the bigger dogs. - ALL THREE owners said the same thing "my dog THINKS it's a big dog." Clearly, it is not. And clearly, the SMALL dog is stressed out and overwhelmed and it's not the small dog's fault. read more

Located in Henderson, I did a 5k at sunset Park - it was so beautiful. It's not every day I get to see the dry dessert landscapes of Nevada. The park had a pathway for bikers and runners. They also have a children's playground next to the pond. Perfect for a picnic, run or a good read next to the pond side. Would recommend driving here, instead of taking public transport. read more

For a park in the desert it offers a nice break from the bustling city. The man-made pond attracts many water fowl, fishermen/women, and RC boaters. There are many paths, one of which circles the pond. You can also plane watch since the park boarders the South end of McCarran airport. The West and North ends of the park have several baseball diamonds that are busy throughout the year. On the North side they have many basketball courts and sand volley ball courts. There is at least one dog park on the West end...maybe another. Walk and bike trails run throughout and there is a very large area South of the park that is roped off that offers very long winding trails surrounded by berms of sand and typical desert vegetation. Oh... Look out for all the goose poop and what appear to be gopher holes that are constantly around the park grounds - especially near the water. The park attracts many, many migrating bird species which makes for a great viewing experience. They have plenty of covered areas for picnics, BBQ, etc. that are busy during the weekends so you might want to check if they are first-come-first-serve or reservation oriented. Unlike Floyd Lamb, Sunset Park has never charged a fee. However, they do close off park of it during the Renaissance Fair a few days a year which does charge a hefty fee. read more

I love going to sunset park with my dog and she loves it as well! They have 3 separate sections that continually are rotated so the little dogs always get grass. I like this park because it's not dirt and my dog doesn't get as dirty. Lately though a lot of people haven't been picking up after their dog which can get a little annoying but for the most part I enjoy the dog park portion of the park. The park itself has a lot to offer: walking through the dunes, the pond, volley ball courts and several play areas for the kids. There is a little bit of a homeless problem in the park so I would be cautious in the evening! read more

What an oasis! Sunset Park has something for everyone. From a disc golf course, volleyball area, a giant lake for birding and fishing, playground.. I frequented the disc golf areas and the lake the most. It is wonderfully fun to watch the geese and ducks. At a recent meetup I went to at the park, we saw a roadrunner as well as bunnies. The covered picnic tables could use a good scrubbing, otherwise they are good for a cookout. read more

No doubt Sunset Park is great and has many activities as well as wide open spaces and plenty of picnic tables. You can feed ducks and at times they have remote controlled boat races. It's also great cause it has an expansive lake which you will not find many in this city. BUT I would like to see more covered picnic tables and most importantly if you do head out to Sunset Park you will notice that between the main park and the hiking park the parking lot is not paved. It is filled in will gravel and dirt. This has bothered me and you wonder why they didn't get this done when they were renovating? I have no idea but this is something that needs to get done. I was pretty disappointed when they were performing the renovations to the park but now that they have finished you can see the improvements to the park! read more

The dog park is awful. Would be great if it wasn't for the awful people there who think they can do whatever they want. Just a bunch of crabby old women pushing other people's dogs and restraining their dog. There are much better dog parks around with people who actually know how to act. There's no point in leashing you're dog in a dog park, it causes other dogs and your's to react. Any trainer can tell you that. There were also people eating in the dog park and acting surprise when dogs where reacting and to top it off people weren't cleaning up after their dogs. Beautiful, large park with plenty of Pokestops. We found a more secluded area where we were able to see lots of bunnies and even some prairie dogs. Really enjoyed wandering around and exploring. This park affords many beautiful views, especially as the sun sets. My son and I had a fabulous time playing Pokémon Go here. He was a little disappointed that not many water type Pokémon spawned near the lake. We did catch a few, like Krabby and Goldeen, but we didn't see a single Magikarp. On the whole, though, it is a great place to play. read more

I love this park because it is huge with so many things to do! But lets just start with why I don't like coming to this park.. I used to come to this park a lot with my doggies until I noticed that every time we came to sunset park in particular my dogs would get little red bumps on their skin and they would be constantly itching. Actually, the first time I brought my shitzhu there, he got terribly sick from so many red bumps on his skin that I ended up having to take him to the vet for an overnight stay and med and iv and was left with a $600 vet bill. After testing and then eventually singling out sunset park, I wondered why this park? Why is it that they always get bumps and the itches from here? It's the ducks... they are everywhere which means they poop everywhere! There poop is filled with a lot of bacteria and the city and county just basically grinds up on the sand and puts is straight back where they got it. So gross but it makes so much sense. Other than that, there are many trails to do, fishing, picnics, volleyball courts, dog parks, baseball parks, and much more. A lot of bunnies there too! read more

I am sad that I have to give this park a negative review, because it is a very nice looking park. However, the vagrant problem is starting to get really bad. For the most part, I have found they usually keep to themselves, but occasionally they can get aggressive and even threaten violence (I saw one homeless guy the other day, screaming obscenities to himself, then he spotted me walking my dog, and started yelling he was going to kill me and my dog....needless to say, this was not a great way to start my morning walk in the park). Again, it is a beautiful park, I would just recommend not walking it by yourself, and try to keep far away from the homeless (especially the ones that are talking to themselves). If not for the homeless issue, I would have given this park 4 stars. read more

One of the better dog parks you can find in vegas. It's on eastern and warm springs, going a bit down the warm springs road. The entrance is easy to miss so keep your eyes open! The vibe of the place is very friendly and welcoming. They have 4 dog parks in total, two are in use for one season and it switches off. With that, one dog park is for small dogs, and the other is for bigger dogs 45 pound and up! The community here is really nice. My dogs have yet to have a confrontation with another dog here. There are trashcans at every corner supplied with doggie bags, scoops, and rakes to pick up their poo pooooo. With that it's pretty much a perfect dog park. read more

We used the big dog park and it was amazing. Such a great community and all the dogs were very nice. We are from out of state and are just visiting family, and this is one of the nicer dog parks I've seen in a while. The big dog park area has lots of space to run around and play, and some sitting areas for the owners of these little fur babies. There are lots of balls and toys but we brought our own and all the dogs loved them. There is also a section when you enter where you take off their leash and it's very nice because it prevents the dogs from getting out. I will definitely come again the next time we visit!! read more

One of the nicer parks in the city. They have softball fields, a lake which offers fishing, walking tracks, and a dog park. They have grills should you choose to have a picnic. If the new normal of social distancing is important to you this place has plenty of space to avoid other humans. read more

Clark Count Rec Sports volleyball league will be taking place here so the team and I decided to check it out on a Sunday. Brought some stuff to grill but unfortunately the 2 grills that were near the volleyball courts were taken, and the entire area was pretty packed with people. Ended up at picnic area F which had a sand volleyball court available. There was only 1 grill area here also, but we made it work. Plenty of picnic areas under the shade, and in general. Sand on volleyball court must've gotten wet recently because it was pretty rough. Grass was bumpy with random holes and piles of dirt. Also noted that disc golf pavement could use some maintenance. Overall a beautiful park! We did notice that the group of people next to us were likely homeless. Very friendly though and did not bother us. Didn't feel threatened or anything crazy. Look forward to exploring the rest of the park! read more

I love this park. Has a bit of everything in it from fishing to sand volleyball. Always kept really nice. Dog bags and water fountains all over are a plus. The only thing i find weird is when i play basketball in the morning theres usually a couple homeless people at the picnic tables and i feel like they just watch me. I would never watch me play. Yesterday, my husband and I tried to have a picnic with our toddler on the grassy, area near the volleyball courts. As we sat out our blanket and our son began to play, a homeless guy kept inching his way towards us, he came out of no where. All the while he was becoming more and more adjatated, loudly shouting and cursing. Obviously, we started to feel threatened and packed up and moved locations. Had we sat out our blanket on the corner of sunset and eastern, I could not complain because clearly that is there "Hang out." I do have a soft spot for those less fortunate and here is where my dilemma lies. I agree that they need shelter and food, but I do not believe that it is safe to have so many transit people hanging out around the kids area of a park. What if my husband wouldn't of been with us, I would have been really terrified. Is this a issue that is just overlooked by the parks department? Either way, the park is beautiful, but we will not be returning. read more

This has been a great park every since my child hood. I've been coming here for 40 years and I used to hang here with friends, family and doing school field trips. Now it's amazing time to be able to bring my son here and enjoy the fresh air and fishing at the ponds. This park is so great. They offer everything you need. If you fish then they stock the ponds with fish. If you play baseball then they have several baseball fields, several basketball courts, several volleyball and they even have a frisbee golf course. It's a huge park in a great area and you can even sit in the park and watch the planes landing at McCarren airport as it's adjacent. It's also a block away from Case De Shanondoa (Wayne Newtons Mansion). These are all things you need to visit while in Vegas. read more
