The drinks were expensive but the comedy made up for it. Definitely worth going back.

Security decided to single me out. Despite empty pockets and arriving in a group, I get pulled aside and patted down MULTIPLE times. Security guard makes a really dumb statement as he touches my leg-- "hmm did you have surgery recently?" WTF? Bro get your fuggin hand off my leg you creep. Not okay. Then we get seated. 2 drink minimum. Wait staff was rude. I had the light on to call the server...no one came. I waved down a server who was helping a group directly in front of me...she snarkily said I have to leave my light on and that MY server would come to take my order. My server never came back except to hand me the closing check. I try to explain to her that I never got my second drink. She said oh well, last call passed (which she never told me). I ask for a receipt and she doesn't give it. I leave no tip. My charge was about 18.50. I look at my card statement the next day and it was rounded up to $20. What's so funny about this...after I told her the situation about the drink and we had no resolution...she literally went to the group on the left of me, and brought the guy a drink that he never received either! I thought the bar was closed??? Where is my drink??? Terrible. As for the comedy. They sucked. From the opener doing some lame "Robert De Niro" impression, to Brian Simpson (a pro). The jokes were not funny in the slightest. The audience didn't really laugh either. Overall, this was my 2nd time here and the negative experience is too much to look over. 2 stars. read more

Disliked it so much that we walked out about 1/3 of the way through the estimated 3 hour show. We went to the Thursday night mystery show where there are a lot of comedians including supposedly bigger name comedians who happen to be in town and drip in. To be fair - my husband and I are in our 60s and maybe younger people felt differently - but we found the first 7 comedians pretty un-funny. Worse than that, the comedy was racist, homophobic and sexist. I guess you could make an argument that comedy needs to push the bounderies and get uncomfortable - but this wasn't something new and it just wasn't funny! (Or creative for that matter). To make matters worse, they require a 2 drink minimum - which is fine. I ordered water, and my husband a soft drink - $7-$8 - but when we were getting ready to leave, and we had to buy another 2 drinks, I figured we'd get two cans of water and take them with us. That's apparently not allowed due to "TABC" rules. Really? You have to open the can of water and you're not allowed to leave with it? Been to Sunset Strip quite a few times now. It was a bit sad for me to go at first as I used to love seeing live music when it was called The Parish. But things change, so now it's a comedy club. I love the system where you turn on the light when you need drink service. I don't love the 2 drink minimum when you're already paying for a show. That's the same as the big comedy club in town, but different than the similarly sized comedy club I prefer to frequent. Everything else is good, though. Been to Sunset Strip Comedy Club twice now, and I'm mixed about it. On the good side: the comedy is usually worth it. The lineups are a mix, but most of the comics are actually great. Fuzzy killed, the hosts kept the energy up, and Mikey Biggs was legitimately hilarious. front row every time, which is fun if you like being part of the show. On the bad side: it's way too expensive for what it is, especially with the two-drink minimum. The drinks are trash. The "hound Dog" cocktail got both me and my girlfriend actually sick -- we had stomach aches the whole show. I went on a Saturday night and although the show didn't list the specific comics, we had a good time. Some were better than others but that was fine. Service was efficient whenever you wanted another drink but I'm still not a fan of the two drink minimum per person. As a Fan of stand up comedy and the Kill Tony Podcast, I had to make adjustments to my trip to Texas to have a least 1 night in Austin. And was it worth it!! Recently went to a 7pm Dope City tour that brings in the local comedians to showcase. Terrible. Most were unimaginative, focusing on sex and ranging from juvenile to disgusting. Throw in racial stereotypes and you have their acts. Others tried to branch out to other topics including the Holocaust (yikes) but never really captured the audience. Several just ended by walking off when they realized that the audience did not find them funny. Maybe it was just a bad lineup that night. But then to add that wines were all boxed blends, both the Paloma and Margarita were too sweet to drink and that leaves you with beer as the only drinkable option. I will give the place credit for service, they have a light at the table to signal the server. read more

Worst place ever don't even waste your time got tickets and was never notified the show had been canceled. I drove over 30 miles and paid for parking. I only wish I could give it half a star. Drove 40 miles, paid 30 dollars for parking, 52 dollars for me and my brother to attend a show. There wasn't anyone there. They share a building with a restaurant/bar and the bartender told me this happens frequently, if they don't sell enough tickets they don't open doors. There is no way for me to collect a refund. No phone number listed so I can't contact anyone. Was suppose to attend show March 4. Have photos and video of what occurred. I paid extra $5 for a premium seat, ended up sitting right behind a wooden pillar which blocked the view to the stage. The comedy was mediocre, a 2-star max, but I was thinking maybe I would go back another night for other comedians, gotta support the locals. I for sure won't go back now after getting scammed with the tipping. The one star rating is for the shady business of the bar. I tipped 15% on the bill, the day after I got charged way higher, they tipped themselves a nice 50% of the bill. Great. I got a flier for a show here and thought it would be nice to support local comedy. I buy a $20 ticket and buy an overpriced drink, to be expected. I'm seated second row back from the stage, which ended up not being ideal. The host comes on, rants about being banned on Facebook for a transgender joke. Offensive comedy is the gimmick, fine whatever. She's literally screaming into a mic that is connected to speakers in a mid-sized space. I have auditory sensory issues but didn't think to bring my hearing protection to a comedy club. That's on me, I suppose. The continual loudness is becoming physically painful, but I want to stay and watch the show I paid for. I cover my ears and carry on, no biggie. The host of this thing takes this as reason to call me out in front of everyone. "Oh, is this *triggering* you? Does it remind you of your childhood?" Honestly, I don't recall the jokes preceding this, but it was something tasteless as that was the whole deal. Put on the spot by this attempt at crowdwork, I sheepishly explain my disability. I tried staying but wasn't really feeling it anymore. It stopped being fun for me, and I was still waiting for any of it to be funny. I don't mind a bit of offensive humor, but you have to have skill and finesse to do it well. I watched a bit of the next set. It was awkward and boring. After a bit, I got out of there. I didn't ask for a refund because most places don't do that, and I really did want to support the arts. This is a new comedy club in a city that has several options to choose from, and this was not a great first impression. Regardless of what your gimmick is, ableism is never a good look. read more

We bought tickets to the Wild Card on Sundays the day of at 2:30pm. Doors open at 6pm for the 7pm show. We get there at 6pm, the doors are locked. We chilled at Happy Chicks. The doors never opened. It is 8pm and I have still have not received a text or email that the show is cancelled. The show has disappeared from the website site though. I expect a refund for the show but not sure how to go about getting it since communication seems non-existent. I'll give my email a chance to be responded to. read more

I came here for something called the death squad secret show, and bought a general admission ticket. I came with three people, but this is the sort of thing you could go alone or with any size crowd. [[HIGHLIGHT]]There was some sort of option for VIP seating, those seats are essentially the same situation. They just occupy the first five or six rows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They see you as you file in from front to back, so come earlier if you want to either be closer or to ensure your whole party gets seated together and nobody has to sit towards the benches on the side. I saw 16 amazing comedians, and I post pictures, but they lock up your cell phone in a bag that you keep with you while you're inside the venue. I like the system they have for ordering drinks, there's a small electric candle by your chair and light it up when you want to come over. I believe they have food as well... But did not try that. I stayed for the whole show, which was three hours. I saw some of my favorite comedians and also was introduced to some new comedians I'd recommend trying out, I'd like to see some of the other shows they have there. read more

Hidden fees turn people off from anywhere, and it's no exception here. (They could have done the opposite more honestly - something like charging more for a ticket, then having the first drink be cheaper or included in the price. Me and the boyfriend recently went here to see redban's Secret Show which is a weekly show at Sunset. Amazing venue, really liked the look of the place. I haven't been to the club before when it was a music venue, but my boyfriend had and said everything looks so much better than it use to. We had great seats, and a great server. The bathrooms seemed brand new, and the huge parking lot behind the place was perfect. The show was hilarious, and we got to see a bunch of comedians from redban Kill Tony show, including Tony himself! I would highly recommend checking out the Secretshow, as it gives you a bunch of different comedians in one show. I will be bacK! read more
