Had some family fly in and thought we'd experience the Comedy Mothership together. Overall, it was a fun experience. The staff were nice and the comedians were great. Every party was required a 2 drink minimum per person. It's a pretty pricey experience compared to other comedy clubs in town, but you pay for the name. The only hiccup I had was the line. You're advised to arrive 45mins - 1 hour early, but you just stand on the street most of the time. You can only enter the actual line when it's almost time for your show, so arriving early is not for the purpose of getting good seats. They didn't actually let us get in line until 10mins before our show. All GA seats were actually just fine. The purpose is to make sure you have enough time to get through security, but that took just a couple minutes. Would I come back? Probably not unless there was someone specific in the lineup I had to see. It was definitely something nice to experience at least once. read more

Disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of stand up comedy. Wound up here on a Wednesday night while visiting Austin. I was on high alert & prepared for a slightly scary experience walking to the Mothership location. I'm glad that I was prepared for a rough environment - but my experience was nothing but pleasant. There was a crowd of staff members & security present when we lined up to enter. I never felt unsafe for a moment. Staff members were super friendly, helpful & welcoming. After a short wait outside, we were escorted in & led to our table. Seating was very tight & I was halfway sitting on the lap of the fellow next to me. I could not move & that's saying a lot since I'm quite skinny. Our server arrived & took drink orders. Since my husband & I don't drink, we just ordered seltzers ($4 each-very reasonable). She returned swiftly & without disrupting the show. There is a 2 drink minimum per guest which is clearly disclosed when purchasing tickets. There was a good variety of comics. Three comics I'd never heard of though others seemed familiar with them. Tony Henchcliffe then did a set & he totally played off the audience which was great. Joe Rogan followed Tony & must've done an hour or so which included a 15 minute "ask me anything" set for the audience. This was the highlight of the show to me. The questions were so random & unexpected. I am a big supporter of "no phones" at live shows. I wish there was a clock somewhere in the room. And I wanted to take photos inside the entrance and funny enough- the women's restroom. The wallpaper was epic! Thankfully they post photos on Instagram daily so you can at least have some physical memories from your visit. We found parking directly behind the club ($20). It was only a 2 minute walk back to our car. The audience was fun and relaxed and the club has a very chill atmosphere. I definitely want to return for a "Bottom of the barrel" show one day. If you are a standup fan in Austin, you have go to Comedy Mothership. Put aside how you feel about owner Joe Rogan if you need to...I did lolz...and respect the comedy that goes on at this club. They source great comedians so you are sure to enjoy the shows. But So much for me with comedy clubs is about the vibe and it's all just a bit too hardcore at Comedy Spaceship for me as a patron. I want comediens to feel free to say what they want without fear of being cancelled, I get that. But we need to be respected as the audience, as well. Most comedy clubs ask patrons not to record or photograph & are kicked out if they do. But at Comedy Mothership, your phone is locked up the entire time you're there for 2-3 hours. It just feels weird and like I'm being held captive as a patron & not respected enough to follow the rules. I've gone to Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock & been digitally locked up, which I get in those scenarios protecting the jokes and a special being recorded. But I've also attended Louis CK post scandal and we didn't have to lock our phones up, and no one took a phone out the entire show. So my rant is over and it's part of what you have to accept going here as it's a rule. But to me, locking phones for every show seems unnecessary and a bit disrespectful to those attending the show. All that aside, our server was super friendly and nice throughout the whole show. They had some interesting non-alcoholic drinks we tried - the Kill Cliff Flaming Joe 25 mg CBD canned drink ($12), Liquid Death Sparkling and Flat ($9), and their Strawberry Shandy mocktail ($9). Loved the Strawberry Shandy! They have the usual 2 drink minimum while in but they have us non-big-drinkers well covered. No food which is probably for the best. 2 hour show, tickets are $40+, they locked up our phones, security is normal per location is understandable, very organized, we got seated at a 2 seater right at the entrance so we got to see the comedians pass by. First 2 comedians were hilarious, got to see Ari Matti, he's so funny, taller than expected and after him comedy went downhill. Some of the comedians were keep an eye on the timer the whole time. They each got 15 minutes so that went well except for those who didn't prepare. Lady in front of us laughed at everything and hella loud so that was annoying. Visiting Austin from the mountains of Western North Carolina and finally made it to Comedy Mothership--what an incredible night. It had been years since we'd gone to a comedy show, and I honestly forgot how good it feels to laugh that hard. We arrived early and snagged amazing seats, which probably doesn't really matter since the space is small, intimate, and feels designed so there isn't a bad view in the room. Every comedian brought a totally different style, and every single one was hilarious. The service was excellent and timed perfectly around the two-drink minimum--attentive without being disruptive and just enough to (hopefully) keep people from getting too wasted and missing the show. The no-phone rule made it easy to stay fully present, though my one regret is not bringing a pen and paper to write down the comedians' names so I could follow them later. If you're trying to decide on which room, definitely go with this one! If you go to the 10pm show, it'll end right at 1am. And they will be placing your phone into a mechanically sealed pouch as you enter, so you will not be able to use your phone at all during the show. There is a two drink minimum per person, as usual, but there is no food offered here, so don't come hungry. Also no outside food, drinks, weapons, recording devices, or illegal drugs are allowed. They will search everywhere. FYI: marijuana is illegal in the state of Texas...although in this city of Austin, they do close their eyes to it being sold around every other corner. I randomly found myself in Austin alone on Black Friday last year and decided to take my chances at getting a standby ticket for the 10:30 pm show in the Little Boy, which is the smaller room and hosts a line up of up and coming local talent. Someone got lucky!! I had a few cocktails waiting at Mitzi's so it sucked having to order two more drinks during the show but luckily they let you buy bottled water. It's bustling and great energy. It's the perfect size to challenge comics with how intimate it is. Everyone was hilarious except the last comedienne. Randomly checked off a bucket list item. Here's my take, I'm a big JR fan, listening to him every day, I was expecting some funny comedy talent that never materialized. What was billed as "The Best of" was less than, the show started ok, improving with the next, and the next, but the las two were horrific! No one was laughing, I understood it was a Tuesday. The week of thanksgiving, but not this bad. As I said, I am a fan and I hope he does well, I just hope the quality of comedians improve. Came here for Kill Tony on a Monday night. It was everything we were hoping for! If you get tickets in advance, be aware that seating is first-come-first serve, and people will often line up ~2 hours before doors open @ 7:30PM, just to grab a good seat. Seating is true comedy-club-cramped, but it helps with the vibe and really makes the place seem cozier and more intimate. 2 drink minimum per person, but they are also understanding if you just want a beer and not a cocktail. Staff is mostly friendly and efficient. They have very strict rules about no phones (they're locked away in a Yonder bag during the show) and no heckling, so don't be a jerk during the show. There are definitely some interesting crowds that gather outside waiting for standby tickets for the events! Overall, our audience was pretty solid, and the bucket pulls were luckily pretty good and funny. It's so damn awesome that Joe Rogan has decided to help develop new comics and artists in this phase of his career where he doesn't need clout or money anymore. THE BIG: Located on Dirty Sixth, you can't miss Comedy Mothership from a mile away. An alien vibe with two comedy rooms: Little Boy and Fat Man. Street parking and garages are available. THE BLACK AND WHITE: I came here with the wife on a Saturday evening to watch Russell Peters and we were situated in the Fat Man studio. I find it interesting that the rooms are named after the atomic bombs dropped but not after the alien theme the mothership is going for. Checking in was pretty easy. They don't allow people to congregate and block other storefronts, so the line generally begins on Trinity. It can get hot during the summer for the wait. You aren't allowed to use your phone, watch or airpods during the show. They have these nice little pouches they lock while you watch the comedy. This is obviously an iconic comedy club being Rogan is the owner. They have a great set up here that is perfect for the comedians. There aren't many places that will have the big names on most days/shows. As with any comedy show, the comedians and their jokes can be hit or miss, but there was a good balance the night I went. The employees were nice. The drinks were pricey as you would expect. The surrounding area is a little sketchy, but they do have security at the club. We went on Tuesday for "bottom of the barrel". The show was great and then to our surprise Joe Rogan AND Shane Gillis came out and did 40 minutes. It was a real treat. The entire show lasted 2.5 hours with no intermission or breaks. Here's a few things to know: yes they bag your phone, yes there's a two drink minimum, no the drinks in the front waiting bar don't count, theater doors open 30 mins before show. We have tried to get here in the past on the weekend or Friday night and it's pretty hard to get in. However, we were lucky to get in for the standby line to see Tony Hinchcliff and friends. I don't find any comedy or comedian to be funny if all you do is emphasize on sexual content. That's a Easy way to get laughs from people that don't understand comedy. That's what you were call low IQ comedy. I was not a fan of Ron White at all. However, Shane Gillis was really good. Can someone please explain to me why anyone would think Ron white is funny. I didn't laugh at one of his obscene, obnoxious jokes. I save the best for last Tony Hinchcliffe Is an absolute assassin. This guy is a master of comedy. The way he works the crowd. The control he has over the entire crowd. Tony is top-notch high-level comedian. He didn't do any over-the-top, sexual bullshit like Ron White and the other guy before or after Ron White I can't remember his name, but Tony is a site to see. He is really comedy. Just is masterful. Once again, Joe Rogan has done an amazing job with this venue. I will always try to come see his lineup when I'm in Austin. Thank you Joe Rogan. We were in Austin for a quick turn around and scored some tickets to see Joe Rogan and friends a week before the show. Such a great venue, small and intimate with not a bad seat in the house. Drinks were also surprisingly good for a comedy club and Joe Rogan and friends were hilarious. We have seen Joe Rogan at the Forum and this show blew that one out of the water. We arrived around 45 minutes prior to the show starting and we're able to score third row seats with general admission tickets. While it was a little squished it wasn't uncomfortable. I would advise looking into VIP if you want extra wiggle room, but it was so much more fun in GA. So this past weekend I visited the highly anticipated comedy mothership . To begin the comedy mothership is located on the popular 6th street. It is centrally located to everything. Once you arrival you are greeted and your tickets and ID must be shown . You are not allowed to have any electronics which in the beginning I thought they were crazy . But it was great not having my phone . It really allowed you to engage with the people you were with and it allowed you to pay attention to the show. Your phone is technically with you the whole time it's just you can't access it . It's in an enclosed pouch which only they can unlock for you . I felt extremely safe while I was there . They have a bar in the beginning of the comedy mothership . The drink I had was soo good . The bar is very cozy and intimate the whole mothership establishment is very intimate . Once inside the actually showroom you are allowed a two drink minimum. So don't say I didn't tell you . I had a fantastic time . I purchased tickets two months in advance and it wasn't even a headliner. Tickets are in high demand!It was definitely worth It. We saw about 8 comedians in our show. They seat 30 minutes before.But until then you need to scan your ticket on the ally . Then head to security and they will lock down your phone for you.From that point on you do not have access to your phone.They will have you Waite in the mitzes bar area. BUT KEEP IN MIND THERE IS A TWO DRINK MINIMUM PER PERSON WHEN SEATED. The seating is tight and you will be sitting closely to someone you don't really know. I had a hard time getting back to my seat after a bathroom break which was downstairs.It was a great experience just had a few kinks that made it difficult to get through. I wanted to watch the main act but that was sold out a long time ago. However, if you would like to watch comedians practice their stand up in the two rooms called fat man and little boy, one can do stand by tickets if none were purchased online. Whichever one you get tickets cost around $50-$40 and a show is around two hours, but you will miss around 30 to 40 minutes of the show since standby starts that late into the show. Also, there's drinks that you are required to buy but I got non-alcoholic drinks which costed around $8-$9. There's no food so just be wary of that.
