They do charge a fee for using your card as shown on my receipt. A tad bit tacky to me but I understand.

The Grand Tavern is unpretentious, welcoming, entrees offer sizable portions. I have NEVER left hungry. Main complaints I see are price - again, yes it's expensive but it's worth it. Also you can see the menu before you go, how do you not know what you're walking into?? Complaints about the burger. First of all the menu changes seasonally. There's no way their patty is frozen. Everything is FRESH AF. And yeah, American cheese is king on a burger. Again, it's on the menu what did you expect? This is a restaurant that has literally never disappointed. I will always save my pennies for a great night out here. Everyone's entitled to their opinion obviously but entitlement is a hell of a drug. Check out the menu and have a great night.

Rather warm in the restaurant and there were overhead fans that weren't rotating, but it wasn't uncomfortable. We'd have had to wait a bit for an outdoor table, and anyway it was a hot humid day and night so indoors suited us just fine. One friend had the lobster bisque, served with a good chunk of a bread that looked tasty (she's not a bread lover but she enjoyed it so it must have been delicious) and she really liked the soup. Then she added another appetizer, spicy garlic shrimp. Generous portion of 6 shrimp. My other friend had the crabcake & shrimp plate, which came with a side salad that our waitress was savvy enough to bring first when our other friend was enjoying her soup. Some crumbled feta on the side salads, a nice touch. When she ordered, my friend asked if the crabcake had a lot of breading and our server assured her that it doesn't; that turned out to be accurate! I also got that side salad with the Ahi tuna bowl I ordered. This was a bowl of dry, bland white rice (might have been jasmine rice but not strong flavor). On one side atop the rice was a good portion of seaweed salad, which I love. Piled sort-of artistically on the other side of the rice mound were several small slices (6? 7?) of perfectly "black and blue" tuna crusted with both black and white sesame seeds. The fish and salad were delicious but not terribly filling. I ate most of the rice. I noticed that there was a marinade at the bottom and began to mix the rice with the marinade that was tasty. They do add 2.5% for credit cards, but that's fair enough these days. Entrées are on the pricey side, I thought ($39. for the crab/shrimp dish, 32 for my tuna, 12 for the lobster bisque), but there aren't any bargains dining out these days. We had no complaints, other than my somewhat dry rice. I'd like to give it 3 1/2 stars but will err on the generous side. We'll probably return next year on our beach day!

My experience was so bad I had to join yelp Came back for the First time this season. We loved this place last summer the staff, the managers, the crowd. Tonight we went in for dinner. We had to find someone to seat us cause they were hanging out in the back. The man we found ended up also being our server. He shuffled his feet the whole way to the table I thought I was going to lose my mind. Once we sat down he began to talk about the changes which quickly shifted to a conversation of him complaining. (We left the kids home to escape the complaints) after we ordered we took a deep breath and vowed to just enjoy our night. Low and behold the disheveled server comes back over wreaking of cigarettes. Again he complains about how slow it is and how his manager has no clue what he's doing. Our meals finally arrive and we needed utensils but drew is missing in action. Where the heck is anybody? We now find our own utensils so we can eat our meals. Our server never came to check on us or offer us a refill. The food was so so!! I'd expect more from the kitchen seeing no one was in the place. After hearing a dozen more complaints from our waiter I had to get the check. My husband and I made a pack we will not go back there ever. Let us know when they sell read more

I am one to never send my food back. Unless my steak is obviously well done when I order a rare steak. That's it and that's what happened to me at this "fine establishment." I use quotes for obvious reasons. I received my steak and cut into the middle of it and it was completely brown. I get the waitresses attention and let her know of the problem. She was very polite and said sure let me just show my manager. Assuming I would get a new steak cooked to my liking, the SAME ONE comes out with the manager holding it. Her name was Nicole. Ironically enough, she was intoxicated as mentioned in a previous post. Now this is where it gets good. She claims that I ordered it Medium because she overheard the server taking the order, which is impossible because she read back to me when we ordered. She says the steak is exactly what I ordered and there was NOTHING she could do about it and walks right back to the bar. I will make sure to tell every person to never go here and be treated like me and my sister did. NEVER GO HERE read more

I hope my first experience of the summer isn't going to be the 2015 outcome. We walk in and the manager proceeds to rant that he's over it and hasn't been paid in three weeks. (Not a good sign) ordered a few apps and were completely disappointed. Getting someone's attention was nearly impossible. I thought silverware and napkins were just common sense (apparently not here) the owner is making positive posts about this place and posting pics of food he doesn't even have. How about get off yelp and fix the real issues here. In the past the management seemed hard working and although pleasing everyone is impossible, they definitely weren't standing around bashing the owner. The view alone isn't going to save this sinking ship. The bigger guy behind the bar who claims he owns the place but is making drinks needs an attitude adjustment. The Changes in 2015 are terrible where's Alan and the old owners. Bartender was extremely rude could be his steroid like complex getting to his head. I didn't realize this place became a biker bar. Guess the shore needed one of those. Swinger night is Friday, entertaining for all. Don't order the tuna came out over cooked and rubbery. Manager said they're learning in the kitchen. Learn with another tables dish during your off season. Overall we were extremely disappointed with Sunsets. Last year this place was our regular spot. The bartender/Manager was rude and quite frankly couldn't make a drink to save his life. The view has been and I'm sure will always be beautiful. It's still just not enough to keep us going back. Pier 9 has just as much to offer, LESS the horrendous cigar smoke that they allow while people are eating. Someone get a hold of this place quick! read more

Came here on a whim because we were looking for a nice spot to sit waterfront and enjoy lunch. While the location is fantastic, the service is horrible and the ambience is ruined by club music playing on a Sunday in July, we really didn't need to hear "Turn Down for What" blasting while we were there. The place was pretty empty and I'm fairly certain we were the only table our server had. When she came over, she mumbled to us, and very awkwardly took our order. After she brought us water, she never returned. We has been waiting 30-40 minutes for a simple sandwich, without any explanation by our waitress for the delay, so we decided to leave. Management needs to drastically improve the waitstaff, service, and ambiance if they hope to have any sort of following here. There is no reason for this place not to be a gold mine other than the fact the service is so poor. read more

I'm on vacation with my boyfriend and my friend and her fiancé and we decided to come to this beautiful restaurant and sit outside with a wonderful view of the bay and we were all 100% delightfully satisfied! There really was no downside to this place, all of the food was amazing, they were big portions and was not expensive. The crab legs were the best i've ever had. The service we received was also very pleasant with our waitress Betty and she even took a picture of us before we left and waited to make sure we were happy with it. Beautiful place and they also had live music playing all the great songs. If I could rate this place 6 stars I would! First time for us visiting Sunsets. Pleasantly surprised by the great drink specials and awesome dinner specials. The patio was full but we opted to wait the 15 for a table to view the sunset. The hostess and manager greeted us at the door and offered us a seat at the door while we waited. After only five minutes we were seated and our server began to tell us about the nightly specials. My husband had sushi which he said was fantastic and I of course chose the lobster dinner. I was so impressed with my meal the cute little waitress told me Tuesdays was lobster night and we should come back. Went to Sunsets with my husband and I have to say it was excellent! The ambiance of the restaurant and the view were both outstanding. Although it was a little crowded, probably because of how good it was - the gentlemen we had as a server was excellent and really paid attention to detail (I had some changes to the item I ordered due to allergies ). The sushi was delicious and tasted so fresh. For our entrees we had the Garlicky shrimp and the Steak and cake and both of us enjoyed our dinners a great deal . Have been going since last summer and found an incredible classic rock cover band called CRG. This year some dirty fat slob said he was in charge and the service was horrible. He waited on us and was rude and obnoxious. We go with 6-10 people and will not return because of him. What happened to the little blonde manager? She ran a tight ship and this other fool doesn't know what he was doing. Sorry CRG but we aren't coming back. Heard the same from other people at the bar we became friends with. Whoever the owner is should realize that appearances and attitude mean everything when it comes to customer service. Bring back the little lady and maybe you will get more business. read more

This was by far the worst restaurant i've ever been to. The food was horrible and the staff sorry one in particular person I think his name was Drew , he claimed to be the manager WHAT A JOKE . CLEAN YOURSELF UP LOSER . He had an attitude of a snake . When I asked for the owner someone told me he was in the back cooking . I guess he's to busy to satisfy a customer. Just had a fabulous seafood dinner at Sunsets!! The crispy shrimp with honey and walnuts were delicious, as were the pan-seared scallops with mango salsa, salads and soups! Our waiter Brian was extremely attentive, very personable and quite helpful with dinner suggestions. The live band was enjoyable to listen to while eating our dinner viewing an incredibly beautiful sunset! When speaking to the floor manager Drew, we found him to be equally enjoyable! I can't thank Sunsets enough!! My finace and I hosted our Engagement Party there this past weekend. We were more then pleased with everything. The family style menu Nicole suggested was right on the money. This venue is a perfect selection for both large and small parties. a group of us started out with 9th ave pier as our intentions. while the view was spectacular the service was horrible and drinks over priced. we took a gander across the bridge where we found sunsets. the menu was dynamite and service was friendly and fun!! we were even pleased that view was just as great!! we learned the restaurant was under new management and were told some of the fantastic changes that have been made. we will be back the reggae band was great!! read more

Friends of ours insisted we give this place a try. We went Wednesday night which happened to be half price sushi. I used to love sunsets outside bar by the water. However rhey allow unrestricted smoking at the bar which is offensive to non smokers.Why they allow this I don't know.Most non smokers seem to go elsewhere. I hope the management reevaluates their policy. It was a great place. read more

I also got a spicy crab roll, one of my favorite types of rolls, and it was all rice and very little crab - not my favorite ratio (doubt it's anyone's).

I got the meatballs again and they were as good as before. I ordered a new entree - Lobster Ravioli! It was heavenly - perfectly cooked pasta with a good amount of lobster! The sauce was so rich and creamy - my partner and I loved it! She got the Lobster Capellini again - it, like the meatballs, was as good as we remembered! Of course the view from the enclosed veranda was as gorgeous as ever! Amelia's will be our 'go to' restaurant whenever we visit Spring Lake.

My party ordered the short rib empanadas, crispy calamari salad, chicken Milanese, and the herbed parmesan fries to share. Everything was fresh, flavorful, and delicious! I have never had fried calamari in a salad, but it was perfectly paired with fresh greens and a miso dressing. They definitely have a special technique because the calamari remained crispy and did not become soggy. We were most impressed, however, with the chicken. Unlike at other establishment, the breading was not soggy from sauce and melted cheese. The chicken was perfectly fried, and topped with arugula, tomatoes, and fresh mozzarella. It was our favorite dish. The herbed fries were delicious even without the accompanying aioli. The restaurant itself is cozy with an open air front, and the staff were friendly and attentive. I will definitely return when I come back to Red Bank.

We were 4 adults and a toddler. We had a few cocktails; all were reasonably good and fairly priced. There were also a few glasses of wine with the meals from a decent, but not extensive list. Everyone had seafood, including the toddler, which included the spicy garlic shrimp appetizer that was a crowd pleaser, and main courses that consisted of snow crab, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and lobster. i was the only one to have the lobster bisque, which I thought exceptional, as it had a creamy consistency and loaded with lobster chunks. There were no complaints though about any of the dishes and we were all happy customers. The prices were reasonable considering the fare and the location, especially as the patio featured a live band, We dined on the patio, but far away from the band, so the music level was pleasant, having seen some reviews suggesting it can be a bit much. It would be hard to complain though about the scenery, as the patio faces a calm channel that leads out to sea. All in all it was very a successful evening. I felt this rated a solid 4, understanding some would rate it a 5, but difficult to understand why anyone would place it lower than a 3.

This place consistently knocks it out of the park with service, food, and atmosphere. Ryan behind the bar is a standout. He treats us like regulars from day one--always greeting us with a smile and delivering truly top-tier service. He's a big part of what makes the whole experience feel so warm and welcoming. And the food? Never the same experience twice in the best way possible. The menu and specials are always evolving, always leveling up, and it keeps things exciting every time we come back. If you're used to high-end haute cuisine and have an eclectic palette, I'd skip this restaurant. If you want "the usual" nice-enough restaurant with good with a decent-enough ambience-- this is a good-enough place. For me, a place like that-- with "standard fare" cuisine, should have above average service. That's where they fell short.
