Our daughter and son-in-law rented a house in Point Pleasant Beach for a few weeks and we stopped in for a couple days to visit them and the grandkids. We went out to eat twice while there, once for dinner and once for lunch. I will review both places using this as my intro to the reviews. For dinner, we ate at Jack Baker's Wharfside, which I also see listed as The Wharfside Seafood & Patio Bar. Frankly surprised it has very average ratings, as I would not say that was our experience on Tuesday night, August 4, 2026. It was reasonably busy and likely explains the somewhat slow service. We were 4 adults and a toddler. We had a few cocktails; all were reasonably good and fairly priced. There were also a few glasses of wine with the meals from a decent, but not extensive list. Everyone had seafood, including the toddler, which included the spicy garlic shrimp appetizer that was a crowd pleaser, and main courses that consisted of snow crab, mussels, shrimp, scallops, and lobster. i was the only one to have the lobster bisque, which I thought exceptional, as it had a creamy consistency and loaded with lobster chunks. There were no complaints though about any of the dishes and we were all happy customers. The prices were reasonable considering the fare and the location, especially as the patio featured a live band, [[HIGHLIGHT]]We dined on the patio, but far away from the band, so the music level was pleasant, having seen some reviews suggesting it can be a bit much.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]It would be hard to complain though about the scenery, as the patio faces a calm channel that leads out to sea.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] All in all it was very a successful evening. I visited the Patio Bar this past Sunday with my wife and overall we were satisfied with what was offered although both the food and drinks are pricey. They open at 12pm and we arrived at 1pm. 80% of the parking lot was already taken at that time so keep that in mind. If you arrive later you might need to park on the street. We were able to get a a table near the band stage and the water which was nice. I noticed that after 4pm people were standing near the bar waiting for tables in the outdoor area. The ambiance is great, especially on a sunny warm day. A little more laid back with a nice view. Since it's near the water it doesn't get too warm. The band (Nine Deez Nite) was great. They are the reason we visited Patio Bar since we had seen them playing at Martell's a couple weeks ago. They play 90s music. But note that the line up at Patio Bar varies so check their site to see who's playing. Food was average and very pricey for what's offered. We ordered both the mahi mahi and the fried flounder. Mahi mahi was just ok, somewhat tasteless. Fried flounder with fries and coleslaw was better and tastier. My wife had a couple frozen pina coladas and I had 2 Patio Punches (in the bucket). Pina colada was good but very small for $15 and Patio Punch was ok ($18). Since the weather was warm it got watery really fast so next time I will probably stick with beer or get a frozen drink. While some of the staff is friendly, some of them look miserable and seem to be unhappy with what they are doing. Our waitress didn't smile not even a single time. Every time she brought me a drink I politely said thank you but she didn't even look. When I went to the bar to ask the bartender to put some ice on my drink she made an angry face, put the ice and handed the glass back to me as if she was doing me a huge favor. I said thank you and she said nothing. She definitely wins the prize for the most miserable employee on that establishment. Hey lady, we spent $140 dollars, I think I deserve some ice and a "you're welcome", otherwise get a job feeding lions. On the other end the hostess and the red hair waitress who took our picture were much more friendly. So just to summarize this is a nice place with expensive average food and drinks and and some of the staff need to have a better attitude and need some customer service training so that we feel more welcome. read more

The view is fantastic and that is the true highlight of this restaurant. I could imagine this would be a very cool place to come for a happy hour during the summer. The menu for the outside area is different than the menu for the inside area so keep that in mind if you plan to visit. Outside is your standard bar food. I got a burger and it was good. Not bad, but not amazing. The service was also okay, but the place was quite busy. They do sometimes have live music which is fun, especially if you are having a drink. read more

The restaurant is located next to the water - arrived on a warm Thursday night, no reservation, bar was a little crowded, however manageable. Ambiance- it's wharf side, so the smell of seafood permeates the restaurant. There was a band that evening that played a mixture of Queen, AC DC and Paul Simon..very sing-a-long oldie tunes. Ordered the coconut shrimp and the chili rubbed mahi mahi. The shrimp was delicious, the mahi mahi was mediocre. Service - surprisingly good. The food is decent and we would consider a return, just wish the food didn't take so long to come out. With two toddlers this can be a challenge. We went twice over the Labor Day weekend. Food was good, although the first night none of what we ordered was very hot. The Peanut Butter dessert was excellent. 2 stars because BOTH TIMES we were charged for food we did not order. However, the bartenders either did not wear a mask or did not wear it properly (under the chin or nose) while fixing/pouring patrons' drinks. We sat at the bar and each enjoyed a bucket drink. We didn't eat here so I can't review the food. Honestly, we couldn't really get past the fact that they bartenders weren't masked. They also seemed grumpy and unhappy to be there- so definitely not a friendly vibe. We loved the location though and watching the boats go by. The other patrons weren't exactly socially distancing and the bar got a little crowded a few times. Chairs were moved to form large groups, which is against state guidelines. If you go, just beware that this place isn't really following covid guidelines. Despite having a large sign displaying new covid rules upon entry, the bartenders and people drinking at the bar did not think this applied to them. Also- beware of the flies. I've been here a few times, and the atmosphere and view can't be beat. This place has a great beachy vibe, even though it is technically not on the ocean. Come here for the view, the drinks, and the music! The food is just okay. It's definitely more frozen/package stuff rather than food made from scratch. This place definitely does volume over quality - in fact, there is a two hour seating limit here. I totally get this because it gets PACKED, even on week days. I like that there is a lot for parking, and the staff is usually pretty friendly. Once you take this place for face value, the experience becomes a whole lot better. read more

Rum buckets! Decently strong and worth it as a great option off of the boardwalk. It can get busy but their service is always fast. You will not be sitting without a drink in hand for long. Our first time at the Wharfside Seafood & Patio Bar. We sat outside the dining area along the waterfront. When we first sit down they brought out complementary cornbread hush puppies & coleslaw. The coleslaw was very good just the right combination of vinegar & mayonnaise. The Hush Puppies looked perfect but were mushy inside & we couldn't taste the cornbread. I love martini's so I tried the Point Martini. It tasted like medicine to me. Luckily our server Hunter offered to exchange my drink & I had The Inlet. The inlet was delicious! We each ordered a cup of Lobster Bisque which had a nice portion of lobster meat and was very good & creamy. For an appetizer we took a chance as I don't like spicy foods & ordered the Spicy Garlic Shrimp. The Spicy Garlic Shrimp came out with a slice of garlic bread. It was perfect! Not hot spicy at all. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, the sauce had the right combination of flavors & the garlic bread added a great touch. It was so good we thought about not ordering entrees and just ordering more Spicy Garlic Shrimp. I ordered the Wharfside Combo & sprung for the added lobster tail. Everything was delicious & cooked perfectly. DH ordered the Cajun Mahi-Mahi & loved it. Unfortunately the jasmine rice that was under the fish was ice cold and flavorless. DH felt the rice was dry & asked for melted butter to moisten it. Not that we weren't stuffed already, we ordered dessert. The Key Lime Pie was delicious! The presentation was lacking but the flavor was good. Hunter was our server. He had the best personality & was always checking back to see if we needed anything. 3 Stars for location, service and the view. Place is beautiful and inviting. The day was beautiful and so was the view. The waitress was very sweet and attentive. My boyfriend and his friend ordered the flounder and chips (I didn't get pictures) and I got the chicken bowl without beans. My guy and his buddy enjoyed their fish and chips however I felt my dish lacked flavor. For the price the portion was also a bit lacking but as with any seafood place pricing will always be higher. They have a full bar outside with plenty of seating. I did enjoy my experience here even though I didn't fully enjoy my food selection. For nostalgias sake, we stopped here for dinner one night when in town as the restaurant was somewhere we frequented with my grandparents when I was young. The vibe on the patio is fun and lively. However, the food is poor quality bar food and with covid, the experience is even worse bc you're served on paper plates, with disposable utensils, and packaged chips. It sort of felt like cafeteria food. I got a great cut of meat that I actually was cutting w my butter knife before the waitress noticed and brought me a steak knife. The constructive criticism: Tough to criticize, however, we ordered the Tuna Tower ($28) and we're brought out the Seafood Tower ($75). It was one of those, "Didn't I say Tuna Tower? I know I did, but this looks so f killer, f it let's just keep it" moments. For the $75 price tag we were a little disappointed that there was no clarified butter for the lobster and maybe some horseradish for the oysters (just a suggestion). The waitress was like, "thanks for ordering the Seafood Tower. Several tables were ooohing and aaaahing over it and asked to order it" Glad I could help drive up your tips at my expense! The add-ons: The restaurant is adjacent to a bar that was packed. A band was playing at the bar, which is always cool in our books. There was definitely separation between the restaurant and the bar, i.e., you couldn't easily move between the two areas, which allowed you to enjoy a nice dinner w/o the bar patrons walking by, but also allowing you to hear the music. We had mussels as as appetizer and portion was average but didn't care for them at all. Mussels were gritty and has a funky smell to them, maybe it was the marinara because we didn't get sick. My husband and I enjoy coming here especially in the off season when it's less crowded. It's great in summer, too! Nice atmosphere at the bar. Good drinks and I love the Buffalo cauliflower happy hour appy. I go there when I crave it, they make it best. If you're just going for drinks, it's great! Great view and usually great live music. But I'd go somewhere else for food! It's only ok and expensive. I also had a horrible experience there this summer when I went with my family. It was a hot day and our kids are 1 and 3 so we made sure we sat under umbrellas. While we were eating another group came in and they moved the umbrellas to accommodate them. They said they would bring some right back but didn't so after a few minutes I asked very politely when they were bringing them. The waitress got the manager (I didn't ask her to) who very rudely told me there weren't enough for everyone and walked away. First time dining at this outside restaurant in July 2021! Hard to find a parking spot, drove around for about 20 minutes looking for a space. Extremely popular place, right on the harbor! Most of it is outside on the dock, very nice setting espy on a clear beautiful summer night! Band was playing and people dancing, so nice to see during this pandemic! Reliably good drinks, view and table service but the food has always been fairly mediocre. I just love the open air style of the restaurant. Most tables have umbrellas if you are sun shy. It's a beautiful way to enjoy a cocktail along the jersey shore but it's also possible you'll get rained out so it's worth checking the weather. I love watching the fishing boats, river lady & personal vessels cruise through the channel while dining along the waters edge. It's just a view and experience that's hard to compare. They also have a dock if you plan on pulling up dockside. Not sure of fees but it's possible. Ample parking in the lot, friendly bar staff but as stated in my tip, you order from the food stand by the main entrance not through your cocktail waitress. Cheers read more

My absolute favorite place!!!! Amazing views for a sunset, right on the water. Expansive outdoor bar. Live music on Friday night (and maybe others). The rum buckets are a really delicious treat. The food is classic bar food (nothing too special), but you are there for the atmosphere. Unwind and enjoy a drink while watching boats pull in and out. The bartenders are all incredibly friendly and efficient. I have always had a good experience. If you want a table the wait can be lengthy so be preparers to grab a drink and wait, as there are no reservations. read more
