Love this place because it's close to my job. Their service is always fast, especially with call-in orders, which is nice when you have 30 minutes for lunch. Sunshine Cafe - It speaks for itself. Rain or shine, when you walk in you are greeted with the ut-most friendliest girl ever. She really is a sunshine. It's a little family owned cafe, they have a great diverse of menu selections, I have to say my favorite is the Korean BBQ over rice. I work with UC Davis over at the Glassrock builiding it's literally a close walk. My coworkers and I have to atleast order from them once a week for lunch. They have specials daily, but I tend to keep within my norms. I, however have tried their BLT, and a BLT sandwhich is usually plain for me but the way they make it has soooo much flavor to it. I saw one of my physicians eatting it at work so I gave it a try, and it was yummo!! Their portions of food is a huge amount, atleast for me it is. Prices are reasonable, and service is awesome from my standpoint. The cashier - which is the daughter of the owner(s) is quite friendly, VERY friendly at that. I don't know how she does it but she seems like she remembers everyones name that comes in. She's always greeting everyone by their names, and I find that very comforting. Even when I call to place the order she knows me by my voice apparently, because she'll always end the phone order with "Ok whitney, we'll have your order ready in 15mins." Recently though, I haven't seen her around =( I believe her mom said she's going back to school, which is good for her but I miss her jolly ol self. She makes me look forward to picking up my lunches on a weekly basis hehe she brings a lot of life to the little cafe. With her there or not I still go, anways getting off topic - I love this place from the food to the customer service. So between my debate of either the hospital cafeteria food (yuck), la bou, jack in the back, subway, or sunshine cafe - I'd go with sunshine all day! =) P.S. Sunshine oriental salad and chicken noodle soup both very fresh and tasty. The salad was large with romaine, iceberg carrots, cranberries oranges and peanuts and generous diced chicken pieces. Good rice wine dressing too. read more

This place is a small little niche right across from the UC Davis med center - as such, it's kind of tough to find parking, but if you're patient, you should be able to find some spaces in the neighborhood nearby. I've only had the sesame chicken and Korean BBQ, but the times I had it, they were great. I like the Korean BBQ better simply because of personal preference, but the sesame chicken's quality was just as good. Portion sizes are indeed generous, and everything tastes fresh and... good. It's just simply good. If you order the sesame chicken or Korean BBQ, you get a side of rice and a side salad with your choice of dressing. I always get the Sunshine sesame dressing, which is basically their own unique version of a sesame dressing. Try it if you get a salad - it's really good. Other than these Asian items, there are more traditional American items, like burgers, fries, BLTs, and the like. My friend had the BLT and liked it, so there you go - good food all around. The girl who handles orders is very cheery and personable. She also has a great memory - my friend and I came back for our second visit a few days after our first, and she remembered my order. Prices are just right, and the service is wonderful. I think people looking for a quick food fix, no matter what kind, won't be disappointed. Try this place out. read more

Walk or bike on over, because parking is not at a premium for Sunshine Cafe. In fact, if you blink while you're driving down Stockton, you might miss it! If, in deed you did, you're truly missing out. They do a little of everything - salads, sandwiches, Asian dishes, breakfasts, etc - but they do it well, and exactly as you'd like it! Cool little spot on Stockton. One of the only places close to eat within walking distance of the Medical Center. Food is decent not bad. What gave it that extra star though was that Korean Philly Cheese steak Sandwich. Really delicious. The cheese just melts in your mouth and the Korean Short Rib meat is just flavored so well. The aroma of the peppers along with the seasoning give this sandwich just the right kick. Owners are nice and friendly. Overall not bad. 4 Stars! read more

My favorite place for lunch in the area. Very friendly. It's pretty close to the Med Center so there are a lot of cute nurses. During lunch time it's pretty crowded but the service is incredibly fast. If I'm there on Friday then I get the Salmon over rice but otherwise I get the bibimbap. read more

All around great for both a light and hearty meal. The menu is extensive with something for everyone. For lunch, I often eat their specials and their newer offering, Korean glass noodle + potsticker dish, is really great. From time to time, I'll have a panini and side salad, which is also great. It comes with an amazing locally baked focaccia with fresh ingredients inside. Their house (sunshine) dressing for their salads is amazing. I would drink it if I could. For breakfast, I love their breakfast burritos and breakfast sandwiches. Came here for the first time today. - lots of people come here, so that's a good thing - the place is pretty small - the menu is huge; breakfast and lunch, coffee, teas, etc. - felt the food is kind of pricey I ordered a small salad and I must say it was okay. I believe it was about $5.99 for a small and $7.99 for a large. Not sure I'll go back. Or maybe I will for breakfast. read more

Really surprised this was as bad as it was! After reading the nice reviews, I took my 8 year old niece and nephew for breakfast while waiting for my mom to have an out patient proceedure done across the street. It was five minutes after 8 am and there was not a single person in the place. We ordered and sat down. Two different people came in to grab orders to go and only one other person came in after us and ordered and sat down. 30 minutes later the other patron said to me that he thinks we have been forgotten. Never one word from the lady or man (must have been the owners) to tell us it would take awhile and not an apology after we finally received this aweful food 40 minutes after we sat down. The other guy got his food first and left more than half of it sitting there, apparently he didn't like his either! My niece's eggs had shells in it, her bacon was cold and tasted like plastic wrap & both childrens toast was made 20 minutes earlier (we watched her make it) so the butter was put on cold bread. I won't get started on my breakfast burrito as it is not worth talking about. Being the little sweeties that these children are, they tried really hard to eat their breakfast and not complain and I wish they had because we should have asked for our money back. By the way, this was at the end of June, I waited to write this so that I would be as nice as I could, if I had written it at the time, I would not have been this nice! Perhaps there should be a sign that says "Hospital Personnel Only" and we could have skipped it altogether. read more

I love this place! Great food and great people! The owners are very nice people and all the UCDMC employees line up to order, come lunch time. The pot stickers and chicken wraps are the best! I love being able to support a friendly local business, while getting great meals, and this place exemplifies that. The food here is way better than the UCDMC cafeteria food, and you have more healthy options. As far as parking goes, there's a temporary parking lot in the back on the building, (across from the bookstore), otherwise you have to pay a meter or run over from the bank lot on the other side.
