I wish I could give this place zero stars. The dentist here is a complete scam. I was told I needed a root canal, and unfortunately, I trusted them. That was the beginning of my nightmare. They charged me $2,000 for the root canal and crown, but after the procedure, my tooth still hurt. I went back multiple times, and they kept dismissing my concerns, saying it was just an issue with the fit and making minor adjustments. Nothing helped, so I finally saw an orthodontist for a second opinion. Turns out, the dentist failed to remove one of my nerves, which meant I had to go through a root canal retreatment and get a new crown costing me another $1,000! To make things worse, the clinic is unprofessional, dirty, and poorly maintained. Water splashes all over your face from the dental equipment, and they clearly don't know what they're doing. All the one star reviews are absolutely true. Avoid this place at all costs! read more

Probably conducting the biggest SCAM job amongst the entire Dentistry community. I hate to be a downer about Sunshine Dental, but I'm just going to be honest and tell it like it is. To be real, this wasn't my first choice. I just went to them because my insurance assigned me. I also just went into it thinking I'd get my teeth taken care of and see what happens. I went through the whole process -- initial checkup, X-rays, and scheduling for a deep cleaning. During the checkup, an older Asian lady dentist came in, looked at my X-rays, and said, "Your cap is leaking. You need a new one, and also three root canals." I was shocked because I thought I was doing pretty well with my teeth, with the exception of consistently flossing. I went ahead and scheduled the deep cleaning for the following week, and once they ran my insurance, they gave me a list of the work that needed to be done, along with their prices. For all three root canals and a deep cleaning it totaled $2,300. The admin/billing lady didn't even know what the hell she was doing, as she gave me two random prices for both the top and the bottom root canals. I'll admit I waited a little while (1 month) to finally schedule the first root canal. I only scheduled it because I had started to feel a lot of pain and sensitivity in one of the affected teeth. I called the office and explained I was in pain and my tooth even started turning blue, and the girl said their first available appointment wasn't available until three weeks out. So then hesitantly I just took the appointment and just to kept telling myself (and others) That was just absurd how much they were charging me. In the mean time, I went and got a second opinion, and that dentist did a FULL mouth X-ray and scan. Guess what?! ONLY ONE ROOT CANAL WAS NEEDED! I'm glad to thow it in their faces that I got it done, and was treated WAYYY better than those Skonkas Sunshine Dental ever could have treated me. All this was said to pass on awareness on how this Shady Sunshine Dental was to me. If anyone with knowledge, knows how to request medical records from them please let me know. read more

woke up with pretty bad tooth pain, after work my wife called around looking for a dental office that would be able to see me being it was as late as it was. they confirmed they would be able to see me. I did spend a lot of time in the waiting room but I was an emergency walk in so I expected that. the staff was extremely friendly and they were in fact able to see me once the patients ahead of me were done. X-rays were done, problem was found, meds prescribed and treatment was talked discussed. All in all good experience. friendly , informative staff. read more

Please do not go here unless you want to be scammed out of a lot of money. I went here because I desperately needed a crown done and they tried to tell me that I needed three root canals done as well. It was going to be around $2000 with my insurance. Thankfully I ended up moving around that time and have since gone to a different dentist and turns out they lied. I do not have any root canals and only needed one small filling. If I was able to leave ZERO stars I would. This dentist is a joke!I waited 2 hours for a deep cleaning!! I'm a first time patient and from the beginning getting X-rays done without proper protection kinda already threw me off, I went in for a deep cleaning and I had the most horrible experience. The lady Asian dr was just laughing constantly as I would tell her it was painful and she would just laugh. They had some guy be her assistant and he did NOT know what he was doing and no one to help or assist him instead he did a half ass job on my deep cleaning which he didn't do all my teeth I had to let him know he forgot to do certain areas and to top it off the water hose opened up and sprayed and wet me everywhere with no one to apologize or offer me anything to dry myself with, I mean things happen but have some common courtesy. This place needs NEW MANAGEMENT NEW EMPLOYEES AND A DAMN AC !! Parking also sucks here it has like 5 parking spots with like 3 cars filled up already which seems the employees park there. This is the last Dentist Office you should even consider. The office/manager/estimate provider is not to be trusted in any price she quotes you.....and you will have a hard time trying to her to put it in writing too. I have dental insurance and they always were adding things that wasn't listed in my plan to get extra money for things that were already covered in my plan. Just beware.....unless you have agreed to pay their prices....they won't call or write you back. I caught this lady red handed and reported her to my dental insurance plan as to the racket she was playing trying to extra money that I didn't need to play. Lucky for me....I found a great dentist office, follows my dental plan and pricing and no complaints for service...not to mention great dentists and oral surgeons all in 1 office. read more

Worst experience ever! I was referred by a close relative to this dentist, I got my cleaning done and doctor suggested I needed 4 refills and a crown! She did not mention if I got refills done I would have some type of sensitivity! I ended up getting refills done and doctor didn't say much after. Bottom line I was having a difficult time when eating on the side she worked on and after 3 visits trying to figure out what was going on doctor says I would have sensitivity for 2-3 months!!!!! The assistant did most of the talk saying it's NORMAL!!!! Up to this day I can't eat on the side she worked on and on top of that I can't drink anything cold or temperature water! I have been a patient there for about 3 years already and after putting in a good word for them to have my boyfriend go with them. After the 3rd appointment they didn't have the courtesy to let him know ahead of time the the dentist we requested wasn't going to be there. The date of the appt we arrived 10 minutes ahead of time and we didn't walk through the doors until 8:10 and to also add up they didn't even have a dentist show up until 5 minutes before 9. We were understanding with that, it happens. What really got me upset was in the meantime while waiting we asked to get a copy of the X-rays which they gave me a very hard time. I understand if they charge a fee to make duplicates, that's fine. When we asked if he can take a picture of his own X-rays the excuses they gave us were ridiculous. The 1st excuse was it was considered a HIPPA violation. I couldn't understand how that was a violation if the own patient was taking a picture of his own X-rays plus providing letter with him stating he was taking a picture of them so they can have in record. After that the girl stayed that's what my manager told me, when asked to speak with the manager she told me she was coming in a few minutes, she didn't end up coming in until a few minutes before 9 (for which is when a dentist finally came and he was gonna be seen, and hour later) we decided not to be seen at the end. Once I spoke with the manager she no longer mentioned the HIPPA violation part (excuse) now the new excuse (2nd excuse) was that it's in the policy that they can't let patients take pictures of there X-rays so I asked her to show me where in those words stated a patient can't do that. She didn't even know where it was because she herself in the moment in-front of both of us was looking for it. When she couldn't find it she told me "it use to say that but now it doesn't" what kind of answer is that? She then told me here's the policy so you can read it yourself and I again told her no I didn't ask you to give me the policy I asked you to show me. She kept insisting here's the policy, I took the damn policy I did read it afterwards and it didn't stated on there anything about no pictures. So I told her once again I still don't understand why you can't let him take a picture of his own X-rays her final and last excuse was we don't allow that and we never have. She at this point I could tell was annoyed and fed up to the point where she stated that if I wasn't given her attitude she could have helped me better. Excuse me? I had/have the right to have been upset and for her to say that and speak to a patient of theirs like that is unacceptable. After this experience I will never be going back there again. They have lost 2 patients now. read more

This is the WORST dental office I have ever been to. PLEASSSSEEEEEEEE DO NOT GO, I WORN YOU! The two women there that do the financing have no clue what they're doing. They start off by charging you $400-800 over their contacted fees for services. So you have to wait 2 months after the insurance sends you claim forms to find out what you really owed them, which turned out to be only $200, and now you have to go back to their office to demand a refund. Trust me, this was just one of the scenarios I experienced. If I could give them 0 stars, I would've. They also charge you for a copy of teeth x-rays for 45$ and when you leave the office they don't give out any free toothbrushes, educate you on teethcleaning, or aftercare. The actually have a hand written sign that says that toothbrushes are $1 each!! Another thing, I got my wisdom teeth removed here. The Dentist did not not take any infection control precautions when removing my teeth. Nor did he change his lab coat about blood splattered on his coat. During the weak of healing, I received a canker sore on the roof of my mouth about a 1/4 in diameter. It was pussing and sore, and since then I've had scarring. This office was OK, It was clean, I got an appointment fast, and the service was just OK. The dentist didn't give me much feedback, and he was quick to be done with me. The Dental assistant was the nicest, he was a guy. What ticked me off was the lady in charge of the insurance. She tried to have me pay 319 for a deep cleaning, then she said 200. she said if I just get the reg cleaning which they didn't even do, she said" why would you polish a dirty car , you get me?" I asked you guys aren't going to clean my teeth at all just polish she said yes and walked away. I knew she was upset she didn't get to up sell anything, but being rude because a client cant just pull 200+ the same day give no right to be that rude. These people are wonderful. I called at the last minute in so much pain. They set me up with an appointment right away, took MediCal with no problem, and were so sweet when I cam in crying and out of sorts. I know I was short with them a few times, I kept apologizing and they kept telling me not to worry about it, that I was in pain and they understood. They took XRays and were very gentle, they prescribed me meds, made a follow up Saturday appointment so I would not have to leave work early again, and gave me a numbing shot for my wait at the pharmacy. The only reason I'm giving them 4 stars instead of 5 is because I had to call about 15 times before reaching them during business hours, and when I called their emergency number, I got a recording...left my info and did not get a call back. The new people running this place are not what they used to be. The main lady (i think the manager the one who is dating the tatted guy) is so rude and gave me attitude because I didn't want to pull one of my wisdom teeth out. I wanted to do both at once because I explained to her that it's hard for me to get time off of work and I speak all day at work. It just felt like they were insisting on pulling it out because they wanted to get paid for it. Then I had my cousin go too when she needed a root canal they wanted to charge her $1000. She went somewhere else and they got it done for under $300. They just seem money hungry. The doctor doesn't even really introduce himself he just starts looking in your mouth. Not to mention all the water damage and popcorn ceiling they have. The only semi decent person there is the receptionist. read more

I was surprised to read Lillian's bad reviews too. I am in fear of dentists (as many people are, I am sure), so I read the reviews very carefully. Lillian's reviews would have put me off in a normal situation. This time it was an emergency. One of my crowns broke when I was eating. Normally I would not have gone to this place after reading Lillian's reviews, but I took a chance because I knew Dr. Andy Kusumo from many years ago. Initially my appointments encountered some hiccups. I grumbled to the office manager, Ruth, and received satisfactory explanations about the misunderstanding of the two office time schedules (El Monte and Commerce). After this my experience with the treatments have been wonderful so far (still going on). Both doctors (Dr. Andy and Dr. Patricia) that treated me are very skillful and have excellent "bed-side manner" to make me feel less anxious. The staff and technicians are all very friendly too. In the end Ruth also explained the insurance situation carefully and tried to find ways to save me money. So I I highly recommend this dental office to you. read more

My husband and I are new patients and we absolutely love the service we received. We loved all THE STAFF and the DOCTOR'S.

WORST DOCTOR EVER. So i went in two weeks ago cause I have a cavity in one of my wisdom tooth and I just wanted a filling so I let the nurse know they attend to me fast and i got in and they did the x-rays it was quick but after that it was horrible. The nurse took me to another room which the doctor was in I could see the doctor who was beside me next to the wall which the wall was open and I thought this would be quick cause I was the only patient that day. So I had a seat and told me to wait so I waited like 10 minutes while the doctor literally across to me watching a movie which sounded violent was just seating there with his foot up the table. And I was thinking ok am I Gona get help and i was getting frustrated by the noise of the movie which was loud with gunshots from the movie and i was thinking to myself hopefully he is not the doctor. So then the dentist assistant came put my x-rays in the wall got the material ready and left so I waited like 10 minutes more I was fed I wanted to live. But then the dentist assistant told the doctor that I was ready so he pause his movie came to me dint even ask me how was I doing just started looking in my mouth and suggest to take all my wisdom tooth out which I clearly told the dental assistant I just wanted a filling but he dint even see my record after he was finish he went back to his movie which is really unprofessional.I was mad I waited like an hour for this. Then they told me to come back until me-dical is ready in my mind thinking for a filling but no a few days ago they call me that they were ready for my extraction and I was in shock I don't want that doctor taking my tooth out what if he damages a nerve or does something wrong. So I just stop answering there calls cause the dental assistant was really rude to me. So I RECOMMEND DON'T COME To these DENTIST. Have my appointment today, but still need to wait 2 hours to be call in, then another 1 hour to get the treatment. Dr. who do my treatment is not even explained one thing to me during the whole treatment. The length of my visit from 10 am to 1:30 pm. Xray took 5 minutes. Filling treatment took another 5 minutes, which is amazing. Can't tell the result yet. This is my first worsted experience I've ever had in dental appt. read more

I highly recommend this office... I had just moved here and needed a new dental office. One of my friends recommend her dentist at Sunshine dental in El Monte. They do there best to make you feel comfortable and go out of there way to help. The doctors are so nice and caring and the staff as well. In these hard times they understand that out of pocket expenses are difficult but they had flexible monthly LOW PAYMENT PLANS, which is always a plus in my book.... I will surely be recommending my new dental office to friends and family.... Two thumbs up!!!! read more
