Either it was not fresh or the texture and taste was different. They already decided this wasn't their favorite donut stop. My son ordered donut sprinkles and my daughter got the mini donuts. Bummerrrrrrr... Went around 10 am on a Saturday and didn't expect that they would have any apple fritters left, but they had a ton of them! Now I know why... it was not very good and I was utterly disappointed! It honestly tasted like day old donuts, a little stale and it did not have that fresh greasy, crispy crunch OR the swirls of apple pie pieces throughout. I don't eat donuts, but I love apple fritters and consider myself a connoisseur. But, they did have a delicious, fresh looking maple bar with what looked like fresh-cooked bacon bits on them. I found this place a few months ago. I live up the hill so it is a bit of a trek down to get doughnuts. However, these doughnuts are the best around. I live next to Apple Hill and I drive down to this place for a doughnut. Yes, they are that much better. The place has the feel of old fashion doughnut dinner. The family is friendly and the service is great. This coupled with a great tasting doughnut keeps me coming back. Thanks for doing a great job! read more

I was driving in Placerville near the Donut Factory. They were still open for the day... so of course I made a beeline to get over there to buy some donuts. D'oh donuts!!! The donuts are darn tasty. My all time fave of a cake donut is pretty amazing here. Plus the place is family ran and the prices are pretty reasonable. Prices are significantly cheaper than the shops in Folsom. It was near closing time, so the selection was not their full offerings. But I was still able to get some cake donuts. $1. I bought vanilla cake and chocolate cakes with varying frostings and toppings. Mmm. They even taste just as good the day after; I know since we had a couple of donuts we bought and ate the next afternoon. They were still cakey moist, tasty and fresh tasting! Other signature items besides the donuts are apple turnovers, berry handheld bakes, chocolate croissants, and regular croissants. $2.50. All of them are home made and fresh baked. Looking all so gorgeous sitting behind the enclosed glass counter. A couple of bonuses of this donut shop are that they sell coffee and espresso drinks. Plus they have a few tables inside and outside where you can sit a spell and enjoy the donuts. It's a clean, no frills type of place. read more

Recently moved to this area and I'm a big donut fan I use to work at a donut shop but never have I ever had a problem except for this first time. I got a dozen, all of them were dry and seemed old, you can even taste how buttery they were. Mind you I went in at 1pm which donuts should be fresh. Customer service was not great either. Prices don't match what's charged. I questioned the prices and was gave some long drawn out reason why this Asian woman was justified for ripping me off(compared to the board that shares prices with customers). I paid more for a "mixed dozen" for $15. Got regular maple and chocolate donuts, nothing special and was charged $18. This may not seem like much but it adds up when your doing it to every customer. Despite a worldwide pandemic and a state mandate to wear masks, this shop didn't meet any sort of standards. 2 people were inside, waiting for their donuts and not wearing masks. By the time I left, the little shop had way too many people packed inside, waiting to order. I didn't say anything, because I doubt they care. On top of that, the younger female who took my order, was not in a good mood. She seemed irritated, annoyed, and kept rolling her eyes and being aggressive with the donuts and tongs. My coworker told me about the cabeza-sized cinnamon rolls here. When I woke up at 5:15am to get ready for a big 7:00am yard sale, only to find I was a week early, we naturally decided to take a road trip for breakfast. After my boyfriend shook his head in disappointment, of course. So there we were, after only 4 hours of sleep, driving 45 minutes to a non-descript donut shop in the middle of Placerville. We walked in and I immediately spotted the oversized treats. I told the lady behind the counter that we drove all the way from Elk Grove for that cinnamon roll because my coworker told me about it. She mumbled something in a mystery Asian language to her husband (probably), and he said, "Really?" as if we were crazy. Ha ha. Moments later, we tore into the monstrosity. Gooey layers of warm pastry, butter, cinnamon and cream cheese frosting. You can choose between cream cheese frosting and sugar icing, but is there really a choice? My half (I promise!) was washed down with a delicious White Mocha...because clearly there wasn't enough sugar involved already. This update is to address that I received a "compliment" about my review, which was actually a criticism for calling out this business for its lax COVID precautions and that a representative from the business replied to my posting. It's a little hard to tell if the representative's response is serious given his use of the term "karenavirus". My rating stands. Following COVID precautions is not difficult. My review was posted on July 27. The rules for the use of face coverings started June 18. There was ample time for this business to learn and follow them. (If a member of the general public can find and read the rules, I'd like to think that businesses would have made the effort to learn them, too.) Holy Moley! The size of the APPLE dang FRITTERS are bigger than 2-3 times the wineries in Apple Hill. And so good, so good. I should write a song! Anyway, went to take my 2 goldens in for a groom about 2 doors down to the Grooming Galleria (and that was nice too) and smelled something that takes me to well, a very nice bakery delight...So, (I'm like a squirrel. I gotta stay focused ), I went into the Donut Factory and less than $10 later I come out with a ton of donuts that melt in your mouth. All kidding aside, go there, and YOU will NOT be disappointed! This place is on the side of the building and there is a little parking lot with sloped driveway to a street. The donuts were ok, but not great. They weren't very soft.
