I was ready to buy more panels from Suntrek Solar , but the technician had the integrity to advise me that I don't need to . He tightened bolts and advised me to remove growth from an ivy which is covering the panels . He advised me to keep it clean from leaves and tree branches . I kept getting told I would be receiving a quote, I got an EMAIL in ALL CAPS after asking for my quote for almost a month after the initial walk through for thermal solar. So much false hope, lies and lack of accountability. Terrible company, DON'T TALK TO JOHN TRYON. We had an excellent experience with Suntrek Solar. They came on time and worked about six hours straight to drain and remove our old solar tank and cut off and cap all the pipes that went from the panels on the roof to the tank. Then they removed our old hot water heater and replaced it with a new one. We started out with another company 40 years ago. After they went out of business Suntrek took over. We have been well pleased with them and have had little maintenance cost. It was just time to downsize. Rolando, Ben and Holger did excellent work. They were very professional and they cleaned up as they went and left the area better than they found it. I would recommend Suntrek to anyone looking for solar work. I'm disappointed with this company. They sold us a $16,000 system to heat our pool using piping that runs on our roof, for our winter home. Unfortunately, it really doesn't heat the pool much at all in the winter, which is when we are at our winter home. It raises the pool temperature maybe 2 degrees, which is not at all worth the cost we incurred. We also wanted a system that was low-maintenance, without excessive recurring costs. I specifically said I didn't want to have a system that required annual maintenance to drain the system--we discussed this at length during the sales process. We discussed ways to design the system to be self-draining, and the entire discussion was about avoiding freezing in the winter. We agreed that on the few occasions it might freeze, I would just run the system overnight to prevent a freeze. They said that as long as I planned to do that, the system would not ever need to be drained. They never raised the issue of the system ever needing to be drained over the summer. This is something I could not have imagined. Each of the first two years the system sprang leaks over the summer. The company did repair the leaks, which we appreciate. However, now the company is saying that to prevent further leaks we need to pay $700 annually for them or someone else to drain the system before the summer and restart the system again for the winter. So now we have this unexpected annual expense to maintain a system that accomplishes very little in terms of heating our pool during the season we use it. They apologized that they failed to disclose this to us but that doesn't change the fact that we now have a $700 annual expense we didn't expect. I so regret investing in this Suntrek system and wish we had just bought an electric heater that could run using the electricity from our photovoltaic solar panels. read more

Project - South Shores Church - Dana Point CA Ethan and the Suntrek Solar Team landed our project after our interview process and then pressed the submission efforts to ensure we would meet the state and federal deadlines back in March and April of 2023. All in all the experience went well from commission to completion to performance. After the installation, and once the system operations were fully substantiated with SDG&E as required - the church began to realize real savings on our energy bills - what a blessing ! Beyond the energy savings being realized, thankfully both the church leadership and Suntrek achieved all the state and federal deadlines "back when" the clock was running on this effort. As such, we were also able to gain additional incentives through tax credits recently realized as well. While the system design proved cost effective, Suntrek's ability to also guide one through the energy savings one may experience with the system's modeling was most beneficial in assisting with the decision making process. Suntrek originally installed our solar pool heating about 3 years ago, it was handled very professional and the job was done so quickly. We now have warm water all the way till September-October depending on the outside temps. A few months ago we had to replace the roof and Subtrek came out un-installed the solar panels and when we were ready they came back out and re-installed them. I am updating this review from the one star I gave originally. For now I am keeping my previous review at the bottom since it provides context as well as an accurate description of our experience. Thanks entirely to Tabby (who is, as many other reviewers commented, fabulous, and really cares about her customers), we now have a functional solar system. She coordinated with Enphase (the manufacturer of the battery and switch system) to replace the switch and the Gateway/Envoy (which is responsible for communicating between the battery, the panels, the grid and the user). This solved our problem....for 4 hours. Then the battery stopped responding and went dead again. I spent the weekend attempting to communicate with Enphase (who outsource their support to India through a chat that kicks you out after a minute if someone has not typed something) to no avail. Tabby then arranged for an electrician to come here (again) and open and close various breakers in the order prescribed by Enphase. This re-set a relay and since then the system has been working (7 days and counting!) Communication does seem to be a challenge for Suntrek. I do see other reviews mentioning the problems they have contacting customer service, so I don't think this experience is unique to us. However as long as you have Tabby's number, she will look after you and try to solve whatever problem you have. Here is my previous review: We talked to Suntrek in December of 2021. Originally we were looking for solar water heating, but ended up having them install a 15 panel solar array with battery backup (at a cost of over $40,000). Installation took about 6 months instead of the 12 weeks we were promised, and throughout the process it was challenging to get reliable progress updates. The only communication that could be relied upon was the swift arrival of an invoice for each step as it was eventually completed. The installation process had 2 major issues. The first was when the installation crew put a nail through the roof and into an existing circuit that cut power to part of the house. We had to hire another electrician to diagnose and fix the problem, though to Suntrek's credit they did provide a discount from the final invoice in the amount of the second electrician's bill. The second issue was that the backup battery was installed incorrectly. Luckily this was spotted by the battery manufacturer during the 2 week period where we were waiting between City permit sign off and PG&E authorization to turn on the system, or there could have been some really bad consequences. The system finally began producing power in the beginning of June. Now at the end of July we have just returned from vacation to find that the system appears dead, the microinverters are not talking to the gateway, the battery has no charge (which will probably cause some irreversible damage), we are just using power from the grid while the sun is at peak power, AND IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO GET HOLD OF SUNTREK! I tried calling the number for service: it rings and rings and then just goes dead. Same for the number for project management. The only number that connects...is the one for new sales. DON'T DO IT! read more

They did good work, but the time it took to complete the job was ridiculous. I had to hound the office to get things done. Would not recommend without some commitment to a schedule. Cost me about 4 moths extra in electric bills due to their delays. I had solar electric installed with a main breaker panel upgrade. It took 8 months from signing paperwork until I finally got permission to operate from Edison. I talked to someone else in my area who had breaker panel upgrade and solar installed by another company. They signed in January 2023 and work was completed and they had permission to operate by April 1. I liked everyone that came out to do the work, and felt the quality of work was good. I went up and took a look at the roof and work looks solid. No problems with leaks in the heavy rains. I saw they broke a few roof tiles, and they did fix them after I called about it. The reason for low rating is schedule. A few times the office told me something would happen the next week and then nothing. Ethan claimed that the majority of the delays were due to the city of Torrance and Edison. But when I looked at the dates on the paperwork, it seems the turn around from the city was quick. A month extra delay from Edison appeared to be due to Suntrek not turning in the final inspection paperwork quickly. There are a lot of solar companies out there. If you are in the southbay area I would try a different one. read more

Suntrek was pretty responsive and stayed on top throughout the whole project. I had a good experience from talking to Greg, the sales rep, who came out to do the first site survey and explained clearly to me how would the system work. He was very professional and knowledgeable and made some good recommendations on how should I set up my system. The design team came to do a second site survey and did the measurement, then they explained to me how exactly my system would look like. The installer team installed the system in two days and showed me how to use the system. It is winter months now so I can't really test out the system until next Spring, but I'm definitely looking forward to it and hopefully it would work as I expected. We had pool solar installed onto our Midcentury modern home. Suntrek was able to work with our schedule and we were able to coordinate the install to include putting down the solar mounts, then they waited for us to have our roof insulated with spray polyurethane foam with a different company and THEN they came back to finish the installation of our pool solar panels. We also had them upgrade our old pool pump at the same time. We love having our pool heated for free by the sun and really appreciate Suntrek willing to work around not only our schedule, but the schedule of another contractor. read more
