I've been in the San Antonio/Windcrest area since July, and I can confidently say Super Pollo Asados has been my favorite place to eat. I've probably eaten here at least 2-5 times a week since I got here, and I've never been disappointed. The variety, quality, portions, and prices are honestly unbeatable. Whether you want grilled chicken and rice, wings, burgers, or tacos with pretty much any meat you can think of, there's always something good. Their horchata and aguas frescas are great too. Everything always tastes fresh, and you get a ton of food for what you pay. One of my go-to orders is five tacos with grilled onions and a side of beans or fideo, and somehow it's usually only around $10-$12. It's hard to find anywhere that gives you that much good, fresh food for that price anymore. On top of the food, the service has always been great. After eating here so many times over the past couple months, I just wanted to leave a review and say thank you to everyone who works here for consistently taking care of all of their customers. I'll be leaving San Antonio soon, and Super Pollo Asados is genuinely one of the places I'm going to miss. If I ever come back to the area, this will be one of the first places I stop to eat. The chicken isn't bad, but nothing spectacular either. I ordered a 3 piece (dark meat) meal and I got a leg, thigh, and a small wing. I don't consider a wing to be a piece of a 3 piece meal. KFC usually serves two thighs and a leg for a 3 piece. The green salsa is very good. The rice was also very good. The charro beans were a little watery, and not much flavor. This little drive-thru hole in the wall is a solid spot. I have passed by many a time and finally decided to try it. They usually have a line of vehicles, so I figured it must be good. Plus, they have a pretty good Yelp rating. This is one of my favorite styles of chicken. Just driving up and ordering off the menu was a breeze. You just tell the person at the window what you would like, pay & pull up to the next window & wait for your order. The staff is very friendly & helpful. Overall, it did not take long to receive our order. Also, the prices here are very reasonable for what you get. The chicken was juicy & flavorful. The rice & beans that come with the order were very good. The Charro beans were delicious. I wasn't a fan of the flour tortillas that came with the plate though. I also ordered 2 tacos Al Pastor, which were tasty. The red & green sauces that they provided were very flavorful. It is usually hit or miss with sauces & salsas whenever you go to Mexican places. They definitely don't miss here. Also, one of the touches that I appreciated the most is, they meticulously wrap everything to ensure that you don't have any spills during transportation. They even individually wrap the lime wedges! I'm not sure if they are already pre-wrapped or they do that per order. But, if they are pre-wrapping them, kudos! That is definitely more sanitary than just having a bunch of cut up limes drying out and becoming contaminated with bacteria. Overall, winner, winner, chicken dinner! Honestly, it's a cute miniature house; like one you would see on "Tiny House Nation"! Well, the Texan urban version, anyways! Drive thru is a very popular option. We chose to dine in this time. They have a small dining area with about 5 tables, each with a paper towel roll and a salt shaker. The basics. Practical, that's about it. Very small area, connected to the counter where you order, with the menu plastered on the wall. A menu from the minimal side orders and drinks to the combination means, am the way to the $460 Family Meal Deal that "Feeds 72 People"! We ordered a combination plate (2 pieces with fideo, salad, flautas), a chicken #2 with charro beans, corn tortillas, onion, peppers, rice, plus an extra chicken flautas side and guacamole. 2 waters, free salsa. They were courteous, efficient, fast. Food was good. Chicken was seasoned well, tender overall, with a few dry edges, but no big deal. Guacamole was a little high priced relative to the other items on the menu it seemed; it was good, but not $5 for the cup good! The 3 flautas were only $3.50, and crispy tasty! Alas, I suppose avocados are more pricey than the shredded chicken and tortillas? Beans and rice were standard, no complaints. Fideo was served hot, sans any meat or vegetables, but served its goal as a soothing, warm accompaniment. Only issue for us was the loud Spanish television program playing relentlessly in the tiny rectangle room, but the other patrons seemed to be sufficiently distracted by it. Shame on me for being so close to the border and not learning the language yet? It did unfortunately make it difficult for us to have a conversation without raising our voices. Overall, satisfactory food with a bare basics dining room. Not worth a huge detour, but if in convenient distance to anyone craving Mexican style chargeilled chicken, give it a shot. We are regulars at this place when we don't feel like cooking LOL my husband LOVES that they sell grilled chicken; he's not a fan of fried chicken. The portions are good. I'm more of a fan of the baked potato and the tortas with asada. Rice and beans are good; you know how some places just don't make them right well they do. The lemonades are our favorite as well. The waiting I know isn't everyone's cup of tea BUT it's being freshly made so keep that in mind and to be honest we feel like they're pretty fast for all the type of options they offer. The place is right off the street. I stopped by because I could smell the pollo asado as I drove by and had to turn around. There are plenty of space for parking. The lady that works there is always super friendly, always smiling! She reminds me of that tia that you love to visit because she's always so nice. The food is outstanding, very tasty, always fresh! I almost gave 4 stars because the Fideo is tasty, but a little watery, and sort of lacking... the fideo is very soft and mostly juice, but has a good flavor. That is the only item I've gotten from there that I wasn't fully satisfied with. Outside of that, we love this place.
