Tried Fidelo's Mexican Restaurant and it did not disappoint. First off --The tortillas were so good -- fresh and homemade. The breakfast tacos are on point here and full of flavor. One of the best carne guisada with cheese tacos in town, in my opinion. The chorizo and egg taco and pork chop tacos were also perfectly made. Their green salsa was soo delicious and spicy, paired perfectly with the tacos. The menudo was tasty and very clean, not fatty. The oatmeal was also delicious . Service was super friendly and quick, which is always a plus. Solid food, good vibes, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to. I definitely want to come back and try the barbacoa. Wow. If you are looking for a taco that feels like a warm hug from grandma... this is your spot. Everything is homemade -- corn or flour tortillas. It's self seating and everybody greets you with warmth and a smile. We waited less than 30 seconds to be waited on and the food took less than 5 minutes. Although I love their puffy tacos, today I opted for the daily Cheese Enchilada special. I'm not particular about the cheese, but these were with cheddar. I love their rice and the beans were good too. The salsa that comes with the chips is good and very cilantro forward, which I like. The roasted salsa was really good on my enchiladas. This place has long been a family favorite. The food is always consistent and the service is equally good. Their pork chop and bean taco is stuffed to the brim. Plus the tacos are on homemade tortillas and they're much larger than the average tortilla you find anywhere else. The charro beans are another absolute favorite of mine! The enchiladas verdes are stuffed with chicken and their verse sauce is perfect. This is another long standing favorite. I'm sure over than last 20 yrs I've had just about everything on their menu at some point or another. Enchilada plate was ok but I have tasted better and my wife said her meat tasted like it was off. It could use more seasoning! Oh and the kicker is if you use a credit or debit card they will charge an extra $2 on top of your bill so I guess they prefer cash!! When you spend your childhood in S. Texas, then move to spend your formative years in Austin, the search for the best tacos begins. Can't say I ever found them in Austin, but I do wonder why I didn't move to San Antonio sooner. These tortillas are top tier; they seriously don't get any better than this. Seriously. The tacos are huge and packed with goodness. I'm always apprehensive to order tacos with eggs because it triggers me to get over cooked scrambled eggs. So I went with a bean and cheese and a potato and chorizo. Both were super tasty, but the chorizo and potato was a little under seasoned. Now, barely pictured is the chilaquiles taco. I had one bite and died and went to heaven. That answers the question about ordering egg tacos here. Next time, that's what I'm getting. I sampled the chicharrones which were also pretty epic. I'm a sucker for diner coffee. Somehow they usually seem to be delicious and underrated and so simple. This one did not disappoint. It was a great cup of coffee. 10/10! read more

First time coming here for lunch. Staff was friendly and polite. Ordered mole pollo lunch special. My husband had the Fidelos special that came with enchiladas, carne asada, rice, beans and guacamole salad and pico de gallo. The food was delicious and fresh. The tortillas were excellent so were the chips and salsa.Tea came with the special and it was fresh and good. Lupita our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The place is small but clean. The place is very disorganized. We waited for a table for at least five minutes, then the people behind us that came in knew the waitress (she ran up to them and gave them a hug). She then gives them the table that should have been ours. We were both party of 2. They then sat us at a table with two other people we didn't know. This is our Sunday morning breakfast most weekends. Our regular waitress, Indy knows our order and most importantly that my husband does not want cilantro on his food. All the servers work well together and the owner is often around for support as well. Friendly staff and great food. The menudo is my favorite of any of our visited restaurants. Started out well with fresh, sturdy crispy house made chips, a tasty mild San Antonio style red salsa, and freshly made ice tea. Friendly service that was quick despite the lunch crush. The restaurant was clean, tidy and in good repair, as well. They have daily lunch specials in addition to the extensive menu. I ordered chicken mole enchiladas. Came out fast. Plenty of food. The mole was rich, complex, and deeply flavorful with a slightly smoky overtone. The dark meat chicken filling was tender and moist. Menudo: served in both small and large bowls (i don't think i would have been able to finish the large bowl tbh) with limes, chopped onions and chopped jalapeños. Brooo been coming to Fidelos for 7 years I have yet to go to another place in San Antonio that tops there tacos and food! I got no pics because that is how good this place it, I be out here diving into my food! Barbacoa taco slaps, bean and cheese slaps, ham and egg slaps, all the classic tacos slap! Brooo the salsas, the salsa quemada that's my fav high key it just adds a good flavor to it! The price is chefs kiss too, trying to eat out in this economy crazy, but Fidelos got you, especially when you pay cash. I pretty much live here on weekends (it'd be more often if I worked in SA). The food here is so damn incredible that's it's our default breakfast spot (they serve breakfast from open to close) regardless of what time we roll out of bed and head over here. My first visit to Fidelos Mexican restaurant. I was there at opening at 5am and already had some costumer's. We were greeted the moment that we sat down at a clean Restaurant. I already knew that I was going to order the large bowl of menudo. My friend ordered the Heuvos Ranchero with a small menudo bowl. Every waitress were beautiful and polite also, were very knowledgeable of the restaurant. Unfortunately the Menudo was not fresh and definitely not a leftover in which can be just as good as a fresh batch. You can smell the spices before you can sip the juice. It seemed water down. Been here before I was Yelp, but haven't been here in awhile. So I had a friend come into town for the weekend, and he always goes to this place. I was so glad that we came here, now I get to do my review on this place. This place is a great hole in the wall restaurant, the only issue I have here is the parking lot is tore up pretty bad. So drive in at slowly, and I didn't see a designated handicap spot. There a few good spots in front of the restaurant, but this place fills up fast. I went for breakfast, and I had two tacos, I had a carne guisada with cheese, on a flour tortilla. Homemade flour tortilla. No need for salsa, had a great taste and the meat was tender. The second taco was a barbacoa on a corn tortilla, also homemade. I'm not much on corn tortillas, but these are very big and delicious. I did add a little bit of salt and green salsa to this taco, out of habit. This taco was all meat, no fat. We decided at the last minute to come back for a late lunch on Sunday for a birthday lunch. I got the fresh squeezed lemonade, and it is awesome. No free refills, and I got two extra refills. Delicious. We also got the queso. For the birthday boy. I got the Fidelo's special, I can't really give this a great review, it was alright, but I filled up on the queso and lemonade. Hate it when I do that. This was my second time in 6 weeks that I ordered breakfast tacos. The first time I ordered tacos for the office the tacos were terrible. Weeks later I thought I would try again, it was the same result. Both times I called in the orders and picked up before 7am (they open at 5a). Both times the tacos were awful! I cannot help but think they use leftover cooked eggs from the day before. I only gave them two stars because I usually have a good experience dining in. However, I will not be ordering tacos for pickup in early hours since that's when they are ridding the place rid of the previous days eggs. The restaurant is usually empty at this time, btw. I've found that it the police are there it's a good thing. The cops know the neighborhood and of course the good places to eat. This place is totally safe and the food is delicious.
