First off - the prices are spectacular. I don't know anywhere that you can get a full lunch for only $8.00. Tuesdays to Friday 11am-2:30pm each day they have lunch specials. Today- Wednesday it was : 1. Chicken flautas (3) 2. Beef enchiladas or 3. Enchiladas verde All come with rice, beans, fresh tortillas and Ice Tea. I chose the Beef enchiladas. They were good. It came with 3 smaller rolled enchiladas. The red sauce was good. Flour tortillas obviously homemade. Beans and rice tasted on point. My son got the Chicken flautas. 3 crispy chicken. With rice and beans. They serve you warm chips and a chipotle style salsa while you wait. We are two baskets of those (sucker for warm tortilla chips) Atmosphere was typical of a breakfast diner. Customer service was good. Nothing was awful nothing outstanding except the prices. They do have a large breakfast menu of tacos and combo plates. Did not see what time they open but they do close at 3pm so they're obviously better known for their breakfast tacos. I think I need to go back and try the breakfast to see what all the hype is about. lol read more

The positive reviews of this establishment are accurate. Went for a later lunch and the place was still packed. Food was good to better than good and the amount of it was quite surprising. Excellent! I called in a to-go order for lunch at about 11:15 am for the Chicken Fajita Plate for pick-up. I had never been before but decided to try it based on all the glowing reviews. When I arrived about 11:30 am, the parking lot was packed and people were parking on the street. I walked in and every table was taken, and people were standing in line. So, obviously this place had to be good. This many people can't be wrong. The server was nice and efficient, and had my order ready. When I got home, both my husband and I loved the chicken fajitas. They were so flavorful. They came with charro beans, Spanish rice, pico de Gallo, and guacamole. The only thing that wasn't in the to-go container were the tortillas. However, that wasn't a problem for us since I had some at home. It was definitely worth the trip. I highly recommend. We will be back. read more

I recently went to Brenda's Mexican Restaurant for the first time after my sister raved about it for months. I am a connoisseur of Tex-Mex cuisine having lived in San Antonio, TX for the majority of my life. I judge Mexican restaurants on three basic things the first time I go, their cheese enchiladas, rice, and their margarita's (if they serve alcohol.) Brenda's cheese enchiladas with their house gravy sauce are hands down the BEST tex-mex enchiladas in the state of Texas!!!! I even asked for the recipe and the sweet waitress did her best to give it to me but without knowing the chilis they use as their base powder it's almost impossible to replicate. (I gave it a shot and did okay though but not nearly as good as Brenda's.) Their menudo is pretty darn good as well. Do not wait...go to Brenda's off of Starcrest!!! read more

This place is not clean. The food is average at best. We were regulars here until I had beef fajitas that you could not eat. Gristle and fat. I'm not quite sure why people go on about this place. Look at the floor and in the corners. I never want to accuse any place of giving me food poisoning because you never know but our very last meal here - and I was sick as I could be. Just not our kind of place. Plus when I mentioned the poor quality the owner said they had to go to a different supplier but never offered a refund or a new dish. Unacceptable. read more

In search of authentic yummy mex food. Beans were salty, rice was decent in tatse, it was fresh. The 2 tortillas that came with the meal didn't taste homemade to me. I used to love this restaurant and have been going here for years. Lately it's been terrible every time I order. I don't know what happened. The salsa is always water. Orders aren't correct. The chorizo is always greasy. Tacos are so small now, like taco cabana sized. The bean and cheese is so runny and sloppy. The papa ranchera and papa Mexicana comes in a soggy tortilla. And this is multiple occasions because I keep giving them more chances because I've been eating here for long and I keep thinking the next time will be better again. Finally got to Brenda's today and tried a Tex-Mex plate with chili con carne cheese enchiladas, rice, beans, bean & cheese chalupa and chili con queso after reading favorable comments on Reddit. I am giving this lunch a solid B+ and put it at the top of my Tex-Mex joints inside San Antonio. A plus worth mentioning are the fresh in-house made heavy tortilla chips and soft corn tortillas. When you find those handmade tortillas, you know they care about their fare. My quest has been finding cheese enchiladas with real chili con carne since moving to San Antonio where cheese enchiladas are usually served covered in bland tasting red "chili gravy" goo. I was reared in a more northern area of Texas where enchiladas were covered in chili con carne, and that is what I want. San Antonio is almost barren of the type. I went with my parents. I ordered the Chile Con Carne Enchiladas with a side of corn tortillas which were very good! The tortillas were definitely home made, you could tell. My parents got the Puffy Tacos and Menudo and they liked their plates as well! The service was great.
