We were very surprised how popular this place was with the line going out the door and people waiting outside hoping to grab a seat. The day we went, it felt like they were running a bit behind so that contributed to the long waits outside. I noticed a lot of people who were seated asking the staff about their order. They were in the 20's and my order was mid-30 so they've been for quite a while. Our single order of pork baos did take a while too - maybe 15 minutes. I was lucky to have snagged a seat when this other group was leaving. The pork was flavorful and melt in your mouth tender. The sprinkled scallions and peanuts really helped magnify the flavors. Getting a table to dine in is purely chance especially if they are busy. So don't be surprised you will most likely need to order out. We lucked by chance that a group left from a two seater table. So my sis and I snagged the table with my toddler on my lap to dine from there. The line does move as the staff gets orders out quickly. They are also at efficient in cleaning up tables after customers are done. We decided to share an order of ten steamed pork and chive dumplings and the mount qi noodles with pork, peas, corn and black fungus. The mount qi noodles were bouncy and flavorful in the rich broth. It had just enough spice without being too much heat. The dumplings were plump and juicy. It was my daugher's favorite as she ended up eating most of them. I've been coming here for years (my first time was maybe a decade ago??) but somehow never reviewed it. The fried pork and chive dumplings are delicious and flavorful--they're always freshly fried to order (which can't be said of every dumpling joint around Chinatown). The burning noodles aren't actually all that spicy but they can last two meals, and those noodles are very filling! Great flavor, but I also love loading up on the chili oil. The sesame noodles were good as well, but I think maybe the burning noodles are more interesting. The burning noodles with pork comes with ground pork so it's not quite like the bigger chunks of chicken if you choose chicken. $6.50 for ten fried dumplings and around $11 for burning noodles. Service is quick but brusque; cash is better than card. It's often pretty busy but the line moves fast and folks do share tables sometimes because this spot is small! I think it's a really solid spot, maybe a 4.5?, although it isn't perfect. I've got more than a few favorite dumpling spots around, but this one is definitely up there. Even though they're busy, they're pretty quick for a fast meal or pick up. I normally enjoy fried over steamed, but was surprised how good the steamed dumplings were here. Ironically this place operates just like SJFZ: you order at the counter at the far end of the space, then you eat your food at one of the communal tables. Now, this place has fewer tables and is even more crammed. There is no trash can; you have to leave your trash on the table and someone will come and put them away. Your food will be brought to your table once your order number is called. So better service than SJFZ. Also, this place is cozier and less dumpy than SJFZ and comes with better amenities - e.g. stock napkins at each table. We ordered Hand Pull Noodle w Soy Bean Paste (zhà jiàng miàn, 炸醬面 $6.95). The texture of the noodle was excellent, but the meat sauce was just salty without any depth in taste. We were very disappointed with the dish. I can't help but imagine their other dish that I wanted to try, Stewed Pork Taiwan Style w Rice, would fare similarly below par. The skin is on the thick side and they have some very interesting fried dumps that I've never seen but my friend told me it was Beijing style. These are wonderful, however, I would make sure you know how to cook them at home first before attempting to just throw them in the air fryer directly like I did my first round! They also offer green vegetable dumplings, which are filled with bits of noodle, mushroom, egg, corn and carrot. These are better than I expected, but super doughy and if over cooked, easily fall apart, spilling their contents everywhere. This place also has REALLY good soy sauce. Upon stepping inside, you can smell and hear the kitchen. The ladies are actively yelling orders and telling people to watch out, dumplings are sizzling and orders are being taken. The dumplings here are different than one might expect. If I could compare it to another food, it would be taquitos. Filling is delicately wrapped but not fully enclosed. I ordered 40 dumplings for my group and waited approximately 15 minutes (longest wait time of the tour). The dumplings came out extremely hot and crispy. Due to the way that these dumplings are wrapped, they do not retain as much moisture as others but that is addressed by using their dumpling sauce. A nice mixture of sweet soy sauce with like vinegar. All the dumplings were crispy, hot and flavorful. read more
