I was in the midst of doing some business in Sunland and wasn't exactly acquainted with the area. Suddenly I was famished and whilst scouting out something to munch on, Super Tortas came into view. As I entered the establishment I noticed many reviews on their wall, so I sauntered over and discovered to my amazement a complementary Jonathon Gold review. I'd felt like I'd struck gold! J.G. had suggested their Rib Eye Torta which was approx. $6. I'd toyed with the idea of ordering their Pork Torta but decided against it, as it would of been sacrelicious. I'm not a huge meat fan but I was suddenly hit with one of my rare carnivorous moments. The counter person told me that the Rib Eye Torta came with mayonnaise, onions, lettuce, tomato and guacamole (the soupy kind) I'm not a fan of thin guacamole, so they offered me sliced pieces of avocado on my torta. Niiice. I also asked if they would be so kind as to grill the onions, and they happily complied. It arrived within minutes, along with a little side of jalapeno peppers and a bit of hot sauce. I topped it with little bits of the peppers, some hot sauce and took my fist bite. Shazam! The bread was perfection, flaky with a crispy crust. I'm embarrassed to say that said poor torta didn't stand a chance. I marveled as I annihilated the tasty tidbit in a nano. Yes! Get yourself to sun valley (it isn't in north hollywood--keep it real, man.) for the best torta on planet earth, or at least the 818. At the minimum, the the best torta in sun valley. Some would say it's super. This place used to be a Greek restaurant called "The Great Greek", and the inside of this awesome sandwich joint still has the Greek murals on the wall. Mix that Greek vibe with Mexican decor...and, well, I just hope you are the type of person who can appreciate such things. I've only ordered the sandwiches, and you really can't go wrong. Milanesa and ribeye are top notch, though you got to realize you aren't getting a ribeye steak in your sandwich. I don't even know why they call it ribeye...but no worries, it's a delicious torta. This place is literally down the street. Monday's they have a special on Pusasas (10x$10) . I was hesitant being that they are a "Mexican" establishment. Well I was very very pleasantly surprised by their pupusas. They were REALLY tasty, a good size and not greasy what so ever. I would def order again! I just started working right next to BUR, and decided to drive around the area and look for something for lunch yesterday. I saw the purple building and a sign for tortas so I drove around back (there's an alley on the left side of the building that leads to the parking lot in back). I ordered the combination with the shredded chicken torta, rice and beans. I also got a medium horchata. I was going to just get the sandwich but realized I was out of cash and there's a $10 minimum for credit cards. I'm glad I got everything because it was all very good! The meat was moist and nicely spiced. The toasted bread had a great texture to it, not super light or crumbly but also not too thick. They put lettuce, tomato, avocado and mayo on there, and they included a cup of hot sauce which was the bomb! Rice and beans were average, a nice complement to the meal. Horchata wasn't tasty - not too sweet, possibly from a mix but if it was it's a damn good mix. The lady behind the counter was sweet. She didn't speak much English, though I think at first it was because she thought I was Hispanic. Everyone has their own spot when it comes to TORTAS. But for me I have tried supposably the best which LA Times reivew to King Torta in Valley Blvd in LA, well is NOT the best!!!. I go around to tried who has the best Torta other then the one I'm about to review. Super Torta @ 7949 Vineland Ave, Sun Valley by far is the best to my palate. RibEye is well season and the meat is not chewy at all, sure how bad can you miss up to make a Torta, well ya you can miss it up because it sound easy to make but hard to get the real flavor you are looking for. I also get the spicy sauce and guacamole sauce that gives a nice kick in the back of your tongue. Horchata is a must as well. Sure they raised their price but if you are looking for a good Torta then you've got to try this one becuase you will not be dissapointed. And if you are not in the mood for the Ribeye then Machaca Torta is also another favorite of mine. I moved out from the area so is hard for me to stop by, but since I been looking around for Tortas that top this place and I can't lie but I have not found one, so I am Sticking around to this one. read more

The tortas are pretty good here, not go out of my way and risk getting shot at good, but if for some unknown reason like you're coming out to see jay leno's cars (which are stored around the corner, but don't tell no one) and you're really craving tortas then come here. BEST Tortas I've has by far ! The bread is tender yet crispy, it is served with this tasteful red salsa that isn't spicy but gives just the right flavor along with jalapeños and a radish. If I can give this place ZERO stars, I would. Customer service is the worst on top of waiting over 45 minutes for 3 sandwiches. I asked the waiter for my food and she said it should the next order out; there on after still waited another 20 minutes. Also, the place was not busy at all when I ordered my food. It was quite empty. I became impatient and just paid for my drinks and left. They did not apologize and neither did they mention that the food was on its way. Love this place! They don't call it Super Tortas for nothing! Granted, they are kinda small, but big on taste. The tortas are formed better than In most places where all the contents fall out due to a soggy bun. The burritos here are also pretty good. The best tortas in the valley :). Sure, the prices may seem a bit high, but it's really worth it. They have a nice family setting, really clean and friendly staff that i have known since the longest.
