I'm not usually a reviewer, but this time felt it necessary to warn others on pricing. I went in today to get a quick trim since I desperately needed it and was unable to get into my regular gal. I should mention, I have long, very fine hair and was just looking to get my split ends cleaned up. I pre-registered online for a wash/trim & got in on time. Stylist shampoo'd, cut, & blew dry my hair dry. From start to finish, I was there about 30min. I did not get any special conditioning treatments, did not get a cut that required styling, & rec'd a quick blow dry, not a formal not a 'blow out' with height or curled ends. My shock and dismay came with the bill. It was just under $80!!! Yes, I repeat $80 w/tip. I was charged for the shampoo and cut, a new OSHA cleaning fee (understandable), and close to $40 for what was called a 'blow dry/style' for long hair?!? Are you kidding? Needless to say, Supercuts has a reputation for being a more affordable neighborhood hair cuttery. That said, I thought I was going in for a quick & affordable trim... quick it was, but affordable, think again!!! Although my stylist was very nice and my trim is satisfactory, I will never ever go back as I can go to almost any other higher end salon and pay significantly less. In fact, I pay around $65 w/tip for everything and more (w/hand massage and complimentary tea 'pre-Covid). Sorry Supercuts, but you are simply ripping people off.

Well despite the prices going up for a basic haircut I come here because they give my mom a senior citizen discount and my mom is a regular coming here. I used to come here because I used to go to another franchise hair salon called Borics long ago and one of my Hair dressers/Barber Edgar is here. The prices were good in the beginning but Covid and City of Chicago are charging a sanitizer charge for their tools for cutting hair. Otherwise decent place I personally go every now and then but I come here usually for my mom's hair care needs. Go either to Edgar, Carmen or David (If he is still there?) I am surprised that this place has a majority of poor ratings or reviews as I never had a problem with getting my haircut wrong neither did my mom. My only complaint is that prices for these franchises are going up. I come only for my mom to get a haircut because she does NOT trust anyone else. Even those places that charge $50 t0 $200 for a hair job and it was NOT what she wanted!

I stumbled upon Reflektion on Yelp and decided to give it a try, as it was remotely close to home, easily accessible via transit options, and had a lot of good shops I like close by! Booking at the salon as a first time client was super easy. I filled out a form and was contact via text. The scheduling staff was very helpful. Since then, I've booked appointments at the front desk when I'm in the salon on my way out -- also seamless! The salon itself is very clean and aesthetically pleasing. All of the products they use smell great and are good for you. The bathroom is especially cute, as pictured in the photos I have quickly snapped after a my last two cuts. I got matched with Reyna who is a gem. She really takes the time to listen to what I want out of my hair cuts and maintenance in between. Reyna is so fun to talk to and I have greatly appreciated her recommendations (K18, in particular) to help improve my hair health. She was not pushy at all when it came to purchasing the product at the salon, which I also appreciated! My hair has been exactly what I wanted each time I've gotten it cut. I look forward to coming in every few months & will continue to see Reyna, although I'm sure the other stylists are just as talented and kind!

I contacted Robert Jeffrey twice to confirm there would be no adverse effects given the timing. I was told my hair might get slightly lighter, which I was comfortable with, as I regularly get highlights and had a toner appointment scheduled with my usual stylist shortly thereafter. Otherwise, they all raved about the treatment. My appointment itself was fine, but once my hair was dried and straightened, it was immediately clear my hair was SIGNIFICANTLY lighter and was an ugly orange-ish red color - very different from my normal brown. I mentioned this at the salon but was largely dismissed in favor of focusing on how smooth and straight my hair looked. After washing my hair for the first time, it smelled HORRIBLE- absolutely rancid and worse when wet (reddit describes it as dead rats and sewage which honestly is pretty spot on). My now husband was even disgusted by it. The smell didn't fade despite repeated washing. When I contacted the salon, I was told they had never heard of this issue and suggested it could be due to needing extra product for my long hair- which they charged me for... I looked into the odor myself and found it can occur if the product is not fully rinsed prior to drying and straightening. I sent the salon before-and-after photos that clearly showed the color change and was offered a toner. Given my experience at Robert Jeffrey and how close my wedding was, I did not want to go back and instead went to my regular stylist, who followed the PuraLuxe guideline of waiting before performing a clarifying shampoo. She was SHOCKED by my hair. When I eventually spoke with an owner, she seemed bothered and suggested the lightened color was due to the clarifying shampoo (which is ridiculous). I received only a 20% refund, despite spending hundreds of dollars at my regular salon to correct the color and get rid of the smell. Unfortunately, I can't say the product helped my hair at all. It isn't smoother, sleeker, or softer, and at times the front pieces actually feel more brittle. Overall, I am extremely disappointed with the salon, the lack of transparency around potential negative effects, how the situation was handled, and the PuraLuxe product itself.

I was looking for full-coverage highlights that would make me as blonde as possible, and that's exactly what I got. For context: I have very long and thick hair. Over the years of getting highlights, I've found that it's hit or miss whether a stylist/salon can give me the full-coverage look I want, since for my hair that takes a lot of time (like 4 or 5 hours) and requires a TON of product. Not every stylist is willing or able to go above the standard number of foils and devote that kind of time, which is totally understandable. But it makes me all the more grateful/impressed when I find a stylist like Nick who is willing to go above and beyond (he spent more than four hours on my hair) to achieve a perfect end result. I was also shocked by how affordable the price was. In my opinion, the quality of Nick's work was on par with some of the most expensive highlights I've ever gotten (and I usually end up paying way above base price since most salons up-charge based on the amount of product your hair requires). But even including tip, the total I paid here was remarkably affordable compared to other salons I've been to. In short, I strongly recommend booking an appointment with Nick if you're someone like me who has very thick hair and wants full-coverage highlights!

It's a little confusing to book online but when you get to the right page, it works out just fine. I got a simple haircut and added a scalp treatment too. The price is really affordable. If you're ok with a student doing your hair and nothing too complicated, this would be great to try. They don't accept tips but if you want to you can donate to a student fund that helps bring in guest speakers. They also shampoo, condition, and dry your hair. It does take about an hour. The student will talk through all they will do and occasionally will check in with the main instructor to check their work or validate what they plan to do is right. The girl that cut my hair never introduced herself, which was a little odd but it's fine- I actually don't love the chatty cathy stylists anyways. She did try a little bit of small talk here and there but otherwise she was just focused on the cut. Again, not an issue for me. Just thoughts I'd comment on that here. I did see a sign later on that said something about respecting a quiet atmosphere, so that's likely it. The facility itself is fine. The lobby area is bigger with lots of areas to sit; and Aveda products on display for purchasing. And then the chairs/stations are all bunched together next to each other for the services. When I was there there was lots of construction. So at least half of the work area is in disarray. Nothing that bothered me but it is displeasing to the eyes if you're walking to the bathroom. But hey, it's Chicago everything is under construction! You have to park on the street, metered parking. I went on a Tuesday morning and didn't quite have trouble finding Parkin but t I can see at other times-- it may be a challenge.

Now- they've raised the price to $30 for a standard haircut, and, appointments are 90 minutes instead of 60 (not a good thing!). After almost 20 years of going to Aveda Institutes for haircuts, I'm moving on. You can go to Ulta or similar for about $40-50 and have a fully licensed individual cut your hair in 45-60 minutes so I'm not quite sure what the appeal of this place is anymore.
