I brought a picture of my hair color with me, blond with blond highlights. Carmen dyed my hair red. The manager Edgar told me to come back the next day and he would put in blond highlights. I called him to ask if it was safe to put highlights in freshly colored hair. He told me not to come back to the salon, to go somewhere else. They ruined my hair and told me to leave! My husband just returned from getting his hair cut at this location. When he walked in, I could tell that the cut was bad just be looking at it. The back and the sides are uneven and actually give the appearance of looking like a shelf. It looks like they were trying to blend the back, however you can see where the layers stop abruptly. I'm not usually a reviewer, but this time felt it necessary to warn others on pricing. I went in today to get a quick trim since I desperately needed it and was unable to get into my regular gal. I should mention, I have long, very fine hair and was just looking to get my split ends cleaned up. I pre-registered online for a wash/trim & got in on time. Stylist shampoo'd, cut, & blew dry my hair dry. From start to finish, I was there about 30min. I did not get any special conditioning treatments, did not get a cut that required styling, & rec'd a quick blow dry, not a formal not a 'blow out' with height or curled ends. My shock and dismay came with the bill. It was just under $80!!! Yes, I repeat $80 w/tip. I was charged for the shampoo and cut, a new OSHA cleaning fee (understandable), and close to $40 for what was called a 'blow dry/style' for long hair?!? Are you kidding? Needless to say, Supercuts has a reputation for being a more affordable neighborhood hair cuttery. That said, I thought I was going in for a quick & affordable trim... quick it was, but affordable, think again!!! Although my stylist was very nice and my trim is satisfactory, I will never ever go back as I can go to almost any other higher end salon and pay significantly less. In fact, I pay around $65 w/tip for everything and more (w/hand massage and complimentary tea 'pre-Covid). Sorry Supercuts, but you are simply ripping people off. read more

Well despite the prices going up for a basic haircut I come here because they give my mom a senior citizen discount and my mom is a regular coming here. I used to come here because I used to go to another franchise hair salon called Borics long ago and one of my Hair dressers/Barber Edgar is here. The prices were good in the beginning but Covid and City of Chicago are charging a sanitizer charge for their tools for cutting hair. Otherwise decent place I personally go every now and then but I come here usually for my mom's hair care needs. Go either to Edgar, Carmen or David (If he is still there?) I am surprised that this place has a majority of poor ratings or reviews as I never had a problem with getting my haircut wrong neither did my mom. My only complaint is that prices for these franchises are going up. I come only for my mom to get a haircut because she does NOT trust anyone else. Well, she cut away my hair and to my surprise it was so short! I only went for a "Trim"and shapeup not an entire haircut. WORST HAIRCUT EVER! My regular stylist was at a different location that recently closed. I decided to come in as a walk into this location on 03/06/2022 with another stylist. She was abrupt, argumentative, and she destroyed my hair. Asked for a skin fade with a trim on top. The fade was uneven and choppy. Even the trim on top of my head using a guard was somehow poorly executed with patches of hair left behind my ears that I had to cut myself when I got home. DO NOT GO HERE! Tried twice at this place in a year - the idea of a wash and blowout sends them into a meltdown, and while they take your "check in" online, they then can't wash someone's hair at 4:15 because it's too close to the 5pm closing time. Of course they'd get more done if they weren't always clustered around the desk trying to figure out how the computer works. I should have known better than to think that a $15 haircut was going to make me look like I got a $75 one.... lesson learned! I came here on a random Sunday and there was no one in the store... that should have been red flag number one considering it sits in the middle of a strip mall. But I ignored this and talked to the lady at the front counter, she was young and seemed to know what she was talking about. I asked for a trim because I like the length of my hair and so she started cutting. I told her my hair was straightened but that I'm naturally curly, she said she needed to cut my hair while it was straight because it would be harder to get the cut I want if she cut it after she shampooed my hair... (flag #2 -- wth was she talking about, 'cut I wanted' It was a trim!) Yes I have a few layers in my hair but its not that complicated to the ladies at Regis, they always cut my hair after shampoo with no trouble at all and it looks great! So onto the cut, which was a lot of fluffing up my hair and snip, and fluff and snip, and fluff and snip, etc. At the end of ten minutes she was done... I looked at it and saw that it looked exactly the same as it did when I came in... and not any shorter, I seriously didn't see a difference. I asked her if she could cut it more, give me more layers and... fluff and snip, fluff and snip... and voila, same sh**. So basically, I left the store with the same cut I had, not any shorter and I examined my ends... and guess what, I still had split ends! A good sylist would have told me she needed to cut down x amount of hair to remove the split ends and would have had noticeable layers. My hair looks dull, long and out of shape. First, I want to preface by saying I understand it's a matter of WHO, and not WHERE, you get your hair cut, but I just got one of the worst cuts I've had in years at Supercuts. I'm actually really laid back about my hair, but I have a few things I know I like. I just went in for a trim, and although I explained exactly what I wanted a few times, the woman clearly didn't listen, as I watched her do exactly what I'd asked her not to. At one point, she actually grabbed one section of hair + held it for a while, scissors hovering, saying "Hmm...how am I gonna go at this?" while I looked on in horror. In the end, I came out with a chop job that looks like 3 different cuts rolled into one....and all I wanted was a trim. I would say that if you DO go here, make sure you know who you're getting as a stylist. I think I'll have to find a new place to go tomorrow to get this mess fixed, now. read more

I went on a Saturday and waited maybe 10 minutes. I had never been to the Ashland and Wellington location, but had avoided Supercuts for several years after a bad experience at a different location. I took a shot at this one and received the best haircut I can remember. Even my fiance commented how nice it was. Piedad (Pili) did a wonderful job, took her time and was attentive to the details. I'm usually not that picky about my haircuts, so I typically just walk in and take the ealier available stylist. People buy from people, not from businesses. That is the reason I go to this Super Cuts about every three weeks to get a trim. There is a very talented hair guy there named Lauro who told me the first time I visited, " ....I make you look sexy, ok?", and he does consistently every time. I had been going to a few salons downtown and just thought one day, "why am I paying $60-$80 for a hair cut when I wear my hair so short." I'm literally in the chair for 10 minutes tops. My hair always looks the same and I never get the free beer or champagne I see all the girls drinking when they are doing a dye job or something. This Super Cuts is located in a big shopping center, neighbors to Pier 1 and Jewel. Parking is easy and readily available. It's just like another Super Cuts in the city and you sometimes have to wait for a chair. No use making an appointment as it has never made a difference in my wait time. I'm not a big fan of the Super Cuts coprorate policy that they should not keep the customer in the chair for too long. Where this may maximize profitability for the franchise, the customers end up having the same haircut and does not allow the hair dresser artistic freedom. I once asked an employee at another locating why this was. They told me that much like the Pizza Hut guy is taught how to make pizza that are consistant every time, the "hair cut school" teaches you one or two ways to cut hair. This way quality can be controlled and maintained corporate wide. The first thing asked as you sit in the chair and they drape the big plastic apron over you is "what number". This means what number would you like your hair cut today. If you are a Super Cuts customer you will know what I mean. I was in between haircuts and my regular hair stylist is an hour away from me. I needed to get my bangs trimmed, so I went here. An absolutely terrible choice on my end. If you do come here, I would avoid Carmen. Instead of a trim, she cut my bangs short. It's been 2 weeks and I'm still fuming mad. That's why the 1 star review. I showed Carmen where I wanted my bangs to be at. After spraying my bangs wet, she proceeded to cut them. After the first cut, I already thought that it was done because I know that as hair dries, it doesn't lay as flat. Meaning the bangs would be at the place I wanted once completely dry. When Carmen went to cut more of my bangs, I told her it would be too short. She tells me no, that I wanted my bangs to touch the middle of my eye and proceeds to point to my bangs, which were wet, and at that moment, fell past the lower lash line. I didn't say anything further. After cutting it again, she starts to dry them and realizes they were cut short. Carmen tells me that my bangs look nice. To her yes, to me, NO. I didn't say anything to her. I was fuming mad. (I actually completed the online how was your visit questionnaire. I received an email from corporate about my horrible experience. This place cracks me up. Why do I keep going there? I have no idea. Every time my hubby and I go get a hair cut we get someone else who doesn't speak English. You neame it and they speak it. My hubby wanted a faux hawk and got a mohawk LOL. Then I wanted a graduated bob and now I have a 8 year old girl bob. These places are always risky, but I was willing to give it a try. I stuck out like a sore thumb being the only female waiting for service. Wow, that's interesting. It certainly never applied to the Supercuts at Lincoln & Peterson, where I first encountered my now-regular hairdresser. I know that franchise businesses have to maintain a certain "uniformity of product" but I was never asked to name a "number"from a list of standard haircuts. On the contrary, my beautician studied my face and head structure and cut my hair so as to be the most flattering, just like an "upscale" hairdresser. I had been trying to call this Supercuts on Ashland and Wellington for days and got no answer. I drove by and saw a sign on door that said they would be opening again on July 7, 2020. I suspected they had closed due to a stylist or customer having been tested positive for COVID-19. I took a gamble anyway and got there before they opened the next day. Edgar, who in the past always cut my hair, told me there would be an extra charge of $3.95 due to COVID. I agreed to pay it but then another customer came in after me and Edgar said the man had an appointment and I would have to wait 30 minutes. I explained that I had been trying to call for days to make an appointment but as they had been closed and there was no voice mail, I could not do so. Edgar acted like he didn't understand. I left at this point. There is a happy ending to this story, though. I went elsewhere, did not have to wait, and best part, paid one third less. Went in for a haircut, and when I got home, noticed that it was quite a bit shorter on one side than the other. Went back to get it fixed by a different stylist, and she also cut it unevenly. Then, when I pointed out that one side was still longer than the other, she agreed, but seemed quite confused that I would want my hair to be the same length on both sides. The location is clean and I feel the staff is courteous efficient and do a very good job. I have 2 regular persons who cut my hair here and they always do an excellent job. I am only giving it one stars because the place was clean and the girls where nice, but everything else was horrible. This was my second time here once I sat on the chair the l stylist complained about how long and heavy my hair was. I asked her no not cut too much off the length and she didn't. She kept on complaining on how bad it was cut when little did she know she was the last one that cut it. I decided not to tell her anything because it could have just been that my hair grew out weird. After she finished the back she was supposed to cut the from layers and she had a fit saying that I had no layers and who ever cut it last just cut it in two lengths. She chopped at random pieces of my hair and when she noticed it was getting full she was like okay all done have a great day. I don't like so cute my hair for this reason. My hair ! I have gone to "cheap" salons before with no problems most my life. I just created a yelp account just so I may warn people against this place and a women named Delouse. I just got the worst F-ing hair cut of my life. First off I am use to more back and fourth before the scissors start clipping. I had to say LONG LAYERS four times and she never asked how much I want off. I had to stop here after her first cut to show her. At that point its now to late. I asked for a simple layer and a swoop across my bangs. After that she started cutting again going on and on about how I have to keep my hair healthy and saying my hair was thin and dry that's why it was tangling in her comb. My hair is NOT thin or dry. She was snatching me bald is what she was doing. I was raised by a single father I am not tender headed. now its time for my bangs she sprayed me in the face with water twice like I was a cat on the drapes. She did one big snip and I was done. I have no layers she only cut out the center of my pre-existing bang leaving out the sides of them. i can see the scissor marks in my hair like I had cut it myself. So now not only do I have a poor excuse for a hair cut but i look like I am a kindergarten er that got Bored and went at my hair with blue safety scissors. You may ask why i did not stop her or why I didn't ask to have it fixed. I didn't because I don't think any of the women in that place could have done better.
