While the Chicago location is the classic one, it's nice to have a location that's more convenient to me. For some reason, the place seems pretty dead most of the time. However, I visited on Halloween while they had a deal going on and it was the busiest I've seen it. Also, props to the staff member who dressed as the dancing hot dog from Snapchat. I highly recommend signing up for their newsletters as they give out lots of coupons and freebies. They almost always have a Groupon deal going, too. Wow! This hurts because I've been a 50 year fan of SuperDawg. The Wheeling location is a classic example of "the kids" milking what the parents built so they can just cash in. This is the 2nd time I went thru the drive thru and it's TEN MINUTES and NOTHING comes out the window. No orders. Nothing. I ordered 2 hot dogs and nothing comes out, for any order, after 10 minutes. I don't know what their definition of fast food is but mine is that it comes in less than 10 minutes. When I backed up and asked "Where's my food?", they told me that my two hot dogs were being "cooked to order" and that was the reason for the wait. Hot Dogs? After 10 minutes? Cooked to order? How sad that management puts Frontline staff in a position where they have to lie!!! Portillos has already figured this stuff out guys and they're killing it. You guys either don't care or don't want to put money into continuing what your parents built. If you're going to visit SuperDawg, which I recommend, go to the Milwaukee & Devon location. So I've been here about a dozen times. It the classic hot dog joint that features the Chicago Dog. It was a spot for my wife and I when I was dating - so a bit of nostalgia (along with all the 50-60's geared drive-in trims of the restaurant/drive in). Personally - I prefer eating inside, its not too fun with the window open when its 30 degrees in Chicago ya know? The SuperDawg is good - and it seemed like every table ordered one. (and my wife refused to let me get a bite of it. we usually share - it must be good). My tip is to fore-go fries that come with every order and order a super fries instead. (Doing it this way. I think you get 3x's the fries for just $0.50 more (trust me - you'll want the extra fries). Absolutely love the fries here - its the crinkle cut type. And extra crispy. Yum. This time we had the double burger which was pretty hefty, decently seasoned. Mustard and relish are standard. The bun holds up well - its a sesame topped bun, slightly toasted. I ordered the fish sandwich for my fish eating daughter and it was a pretty good sized sandwich with two good sized planks of fish in an onion roll w/ tartar sauce on the side. When in the Chicago area recently, I told my husband, "We NEED to stop at Superdawg on our way home!". Thankfully, he obliged. I had been wanting to check them out since I saw them featured on the Travel Channel. Superdawg is a Chicago area institution that has been around since 1948. What started out as a small hotdog stand has grown into the restaurant that you know today. You can either dine in, or utilize the drive in outside. The service here is fantastic and efficient. When we were there, there were a lot of customers in the restaurant. However, the wait wasn't super long at all. The staff really knows how to run things efficiently to keep things moving in a timely manner. Even though they are known for their hotdogs, Superdawg serves more than that on their menu. They have sandwiches, burgers, chili, tamales, onion chips, fountain/desert selections and more. My husband and I both opted for their famous hotdogs. They are all beef, no fillers, and are served on a poppy seed bun. They are loaded with many of the trimmings that you see on a traditional Chicago style dog and are delicious! We've been here a couple times when errands have taken us out in the area and Superdawg is a good stop for a quick bite to refuel. Their hotdogs have a great flavor with a nice snap to the bite. They serve the dog buried under the fries in a fun little box, though, so be prepared to either eat a lot of fries first or have a place to pull out and set the fries so you can enjoy the hotdog as well. On our last visit we tried a vanilla shake and it was super thick & oh-so-creamy delicious! Top notch! The service has always been quick and friendly. You can either eat drive-in style at your car, dine inside or they do have a few picnic tables & umbrellas outside as well. And who doesn't love their amusing cartoons/messages on their packaging? This spot was highly recommended by our hotel and in our welcome letter for the wedding we were attending. I figure Chicago dogs are a must when in the Windy City. We stopped in for dinner and the menu had plenty of delicious items, but we had to go with the Chicago dog. Here they know it as the Superdawg. I had a Groupon for Superdawg and I found out this location was close to me and I haven't been to this location before. It was an easy access to get here and it's close to a popular seafood restaurant "Bob Chin". This Superdawg location is newer and bigger than the original location in the city. Same layout with 50s nostalgic feel to it and plenty to seating inside as well as plenty of sit and park if you choose to order in the comfort of your car. They will serve your hot meal right up to your car window really enjoy drive thru. Their staff was friendly and you can see them making your food and prepping those delicious crispy tender fries! We got the traditional hot dog with everything. We also split a whoppiecheesy burger as well. Everything came out hot and fresh. Our hotdogs came in a steamed poppyseed bun with our crispy crinkle fries, a spear dill pickle, and two quarter slices of these little green pickled tomatoes which was a nice crunchy touch to our meal. The double burger was also juicy and flavorful and I love the toasted sesame seed bun. I would definitely get a hotdog and the burger again, no judging here! They had other things on the menu like tamales, chicken sandwich and other items but I was really here for hotdog and a side of burger lol! The place was clean, besides several tables they also had high top seats across the window for people to enjoy "people" watching and to watch the cars drive by. This is one of my top places to get a really good hot dog and it never disappoints. The hot dog stands out among others for being much more substantial in quantity and flavor. The hot dog has the right snap to it with perfectly layered toppings of onions, relish, mustard, and peppers. What makes this hot dog stand out however is the wedge of the pickled tomato instead of the usual red tomato. I am also a big fan of the cheeseburgers, specifically the whoppercheesie (double cheeseburger), which is super juicy and the perfect amount of cheese and seasoning. I actually may like the burgers more than the hot dogs here. The milkshakes are also really delicious, very thick and enjoyable. The fries leave something to be desired. I find them to be very soggy and underseasoned. I prefer the onion chips as a side, the complete opposite of how the fries taste. Fresh ingredients top the uniquely seasoned and juicy hot dog. I order mine with everything. I used to skip the relish, but have grown accustomed to it and now include it on my dog. They recently (and FINALLY) added chili to the menu, and it is very good as well. I'm not a fry snob, but these were kind of ick. I liked the green tomato - THAT was different! Superveggie: +3.75/5 The tasty veggies included zucchini, mushroom, broccoli, and corn. I assumed the latter would be a slice off of the outer cob, but was several pieces of (canned) sweet corn together. Odd. I can't say I was a fan of the corn, but the zucchini and mushroom were good.
