My family decided to order takeout for a New Year's Day Lunch. We heard the food was good so we decided to order from Union Ale House Pub. The takeout order was for 10 people so I was interested in the accuracy of the order. For the most part the order was accurate but a request to modify the chopped salad (remove the chopped bacon) was not done. Also, a single fried calamari was mixed in the onion rings and was mistakenly eaten by someone allergic to calamari. Luckily the reaction was not bad. As far as the order, the order was as followed: Fried Dill Pickles, Fried Mushrooms, Pretzel Bites, Onion Rings, Chopped Cobb Salad, Teriyaki Wings, Garlic Parm Wings, Vegetarian Pizza, Beef Sandwich, Classic Sliders, Reuben Sandwich, Crispy Cod Sandwich, Chicken Bacon Club Sandwich and the Ale House Cheddar Pretzel Burger. The pickles, mushrooms, onion rings, and pretzel bites were good. My favorites were the mushrooms and pickles. I had the Cobb Salad but I removed the top layer cause of the bacon and the veggie pizza. The crust on the pizza was really good. I can't really speak for the rest of the food but it was well liked by everyone. The fries were hand cut and really good. My work team and I went to Union Ale House to take part in their Wednesday night trivia competition. We had a fun time. There is something on the menu for everyone and lots of drink choices too. The food was tasty. Service was good, which for a group of our size was impressive. The only two criticisms I had were that the bathroom could use improvement and the parking lot needs help. Our late night large group of varying sizes comes in almost every week after a rehearsal to eat, drink, relax, and socialize. Owner Jimmy is great -- he and the kitchen staff provide much tasty food for us, and he's quickly addressed and resolved any service issues we've had over the time we've gone there (there have been a couple). I have yet to settle on one regular thing to order, because there are so many that I like on the menu. We're typically there on Tuesday, which is their Taco Tuesday night, with taco salad, taco specials, and chicken tortilla soup. They've have many other great soups, too, like broccoli cheddar, mushroom, cream of potato, and French onion and chicken noodle (I think both of these are available daily). There's a lot of variety on the menu -- everything from chicken wings (regular or boneless), to burgers, to saganaki, to pasta, to Chinese dumplings, and the pizza is pub style (thin crust, cut in squares) and very tasty. Parking is ample in the lots on both sides of the building, the bathrooms and dining area were fairly recently remodeled and updated, and it's a great late-night place to hang out. In additional to Jimmy, special kudos to our regular server, Bob, who you can also hear sing great karaoke if you're there on Thursday nights, and bartender Lacy, who's always super-friendly and welcoming. read more

Restaurant changed owners. We were there for over two hours tonight (with two grumpy kids by the end of it) because the service was so slow and inexperienced. We were greeted with two waters (we had a party of 4). It took us asking plus another 10 minutes to get our other waters. We kept having to prompt the waitress - "we are ready to order", "we need plates for our appetizers"", "we are missing our soup", "we are missing a set of utensils....". I had to send a drink back because it tasted nothing like it should have. They somehow forgot to put my daughter's dinner order in in the kitchen. Her food didn't come out until everyone was done eating. The one big positive is the food was pretty good as it used to be under the old ownership. The major problem is the service. I hope that returns to the old standards or I don't think we'll be coming back unfortunately. read more

We have passed by so many times and never thought to try it, but we were looking for a casual restaurant with decent food. We walked in and the first thing we saw was the bar with almost every chair occupied . It is no frills, but everyone was so warm and welcoming. We sat in the dining area, and within 30 minutes of our arrival, the restaurant was almost full. It is an older crowd! We started with the cheese curds and the portion was decent. I tried the ruben sandwich with coleslaw. The corned beef was piled high and the cole slaw was one of the best I have ever had. My husband had their burger topped with a fried egg. The portions were decent and the prices were very reasonable. Service was excellent and everyone made you feel as if you were in their home. Came here the other day for the first time because it was open despite COVID, and my friends and I were pleasantly surprised by the food quality. Walking in, we were a little uncomfortable because it has a dive bar type feel when walking in and my friends and I were the youngest customers in there. Everyone was crowded around the bar area, and we made a reservation for the 5 of us, so were were seated far away from the bar and anyone else because other than those at the bar, no one else was there. The two different waitresses that helped us were both so nice and friendly. They checked on us the whole time. The menu is pretty extensive, which is why we also chose this place over others open. Most of us ordered different entrees, and everyone loved the food they ordered. Everything was fresh and cooked very well. We all shared the delicious fried pickles (that breading = YUM), and I ordered the chicken artichoke florentine sandwich. I would definitely order it again! I also ordered the cream of chicken soup and it was so thick and chunky. Honestly amazing and I would come back solely for the soup. Surprisingly enough, the restaurant has tropical liquor drinks on their menu, like a tequila sunrise. It was made perfectly and was so refreshing. They also have mules and bahama mamas. They of course have an extensive beer and liquor meny in general because it's an alehouse. One thing I would say is that if you care about COVID restrictions, most customers and workers don't seem to care about wearing masks. My friends and I didn't mind, but I know some people would would've had a fit with most workers wearing the masks under their noses. Another turn off to this place was that you could tell the menu covers were old because I kept smelling pee near my chair, and my friend smelled her menu and we realized the black menu covers were the problem. Smells like they have gotten wet and so they smell mildewy. Overall, I would get the food again, but it's not somewhere I would probably dine-in at again. On a Friday night, it's nice to be able to walk into a restaurant bar, grab a table with friends, have background music not too loud that you can't have a great conversation, have great service with fast food and fast drinks, and the owner of the joint come over and check on you. That's what we find when we come to Union. It was previously another place with an outdoor patio but now that's been converted to a front dining room and it's great. Tonight the dining room was half full but the bar was full. It was clean, quiet and warm, yet at the same time very lively. There was a nice hum of conversation and laughter throughout, Sports on every TV, and the video games were left empty. Bathrooms were clean. Union servers are always pleasant and attentive, and tonight was no different. We each had different drinks -- a Red Bull and rum, a traditional martini, and Bulleit bourbon. The Red Bull was flat and our server was happy to bring a fresh one back immediately. My bourbon on the Rocks was a very healthy pour. Upon request, our server brought over a basket of free popcorn. It was not overly salty, so that was good. Our food came quickly. The Tokyo shrimp were served in a very attractive teepee or bonfire formation, and they were lightly breaded yet enormous shrimp on skewers. We used the sweet and tangy sauce, although the shrimp were so good they didn't need it. The creamy slaw below the shrimp was decent and perhaps a good match although I like the vinegar slaw better. Our server also came quickly with our flaming saganaki. She also knew to squirt the lemon on top afterwards. However, the saganaki was more or less a brownish hockey puck on the outside and modestly mild cheese on the inside. We were hoping for a little bit better product than this. The pita also was very bland. After more drinks and laughter, we ordered boneless buffalo wings with habanero sauce. I have forever been the Buffalo Wing King and very happy and comfortable with flaming hot wings. Either I'm getting old... A distinct possibility... Or these were brutally, over-the-top, fresh habanero paste mixed with scorpion pepper. These boneless wings were delicious but incredibly hot... Like a half million Scoville units. I was dying. I drank 2 or 3 pints of water eat the carrots and celery, but refused the blue cheese and the ranch dip options because I don't like them. Our server was so sweet, she offered to go in the back to see if there was milk or ice cream or even coffee creamer to soften the blow on my lips and tongue! When I drove passed this place I did not even realize it was a restaurant. Union Ale House Pub has a low key exterior thats reminiscent of the small-town bars in Wisconsin. However the best thing is that these low key places usually have the best bar food! I wanted to feed the BF and wanted to grab something in the area that I was at. A quick YELP search brought me to Union Ale House Pub. The reviews were excellent so I placed a quick order of the Drunken Nachos and the Chicken Salad Salad. Service: Food was on time and packed up nicely in a brown bag. I literally walked in and out in less than a minute. Food: Drunken Nachos was yummy and presentation was fantastic. I wish I took pictures but we devoured it. It was interesting that they used "Christmas colors" for their nachos (they were green and red dyed nachos) and BF wondered if they were actually from Christmas. The Chicken Salad Salad is made with their homemade chicken salad recipe and it was probably the best Chicken Salad I've ever had! It had chunky walnuts and lots of grapes in it. It seemed like a Chicken Salad meets Waldorf Salad mix. The salad was pretty fresh and the wide array of dressing was an added bonus. (Most places do not have thousand island dressing). I feel very much at home coming here, a bar area where the locals can relax and have a brew. An eating area with flat screens for sports. The servers are very friendly and are happy to give recommendations. The Greek steak and steak sandwich are quite tasty and a good size. The fish and chips was notably crispy on the outside and hot and flaky on the inside. Wow, it may have even been better than Curragh's (Skokie) which says a lot.
