My first review was removed and this is the first time I have felt compelled to actually write it again. Reason for my review: First Note - Don't ask for JAKE TO WORK ON YOUR CAR. ALSO ANY BUSINESS THAT TRIES TO FORCE YOU TO REMOVE YOUR REVIEW IS BAD BUSINESS! This shop messed up my thermostat and sensor (drive a BMW and you'll know they have sensors everywhere). This was back in December of 2014 when I needed a smog and fluid change. Then I come back this year for a smog and find out there's a loose thermostat. When I asked the price he said $600 minimum but we may find more going on and I don't have time for about 2 weeks to work on your car. This was the last shop to work on my car so blame is on them. Went to another shop found out they didn't seal my thermostat and damaged both my sensors. The main thing is these people are trustworthy. For me that is the most important thing for an auto mechanic (of course they have to be skilled and reasonably priced too). These guys could have charged me around $1,200 for fixing something but they were honest about it and told me that it wasn't absolutely necessary and I could wait to do the work, which I really appreciated. They also have a cool app where they send you the estimate by text with photos to show you the problem (a leak or whatever) so you can feel confident about what you are paying for. read more

Came here for a smog check. I knew my check engine light was on, and had an appointment with my mechanic in two days. Jake, the technician supervisor, informed me that I failed my smog due to issues with my EVAP system. I asked him about it and he explained that certain codes, especially with the EVAP system, will cause you to fail because of emissions leaking. I researched it when I got home. What I learned is that ANY check engine light, no matter the origin, will cause you to automatically fail a smog. I called him the next day to ask him why they would even run the test when I would automatically fail. He told me that his technician did nothing wrong and they are not supposed to even look at the check engine light. They are simply supposed to run the test, even when they, no doubt, saw my check engine light on when they drove it into the shop. WTF? I did not know that I would automatically fail, and if I did I would obviously not want to get it. I was considering getting some work done there but after speaking to Jake on the phone, I decided to cancel. He was unapologetic and made it clear that he did not take issue with his techs doing the unnecessary work. Definitely made the shop seem untrustworthy. I would carefully consider getting major work done here, and know that if you have a problem with your service, the supervisor may not even care. read more

I showed up for a smog check with a competitors coupon and forgot this business' coupon on my kitchen counter. The competitor's coupons I brought all were a bait and switch since I had a truck. (The advertised price wasn't the true price.) When I mentioned the coupon the tech called the other smog dealer via his cell and pretended to be a customer seeking a price quote. They honored the other place's price of $45 out the door. If I would have brought their coupon in the beginning it would have been $35 out the door. Even though I paid more the only reason they still get 5 stars is they are an honest business since they were the ONLY Coupon out there that doesn't add a surcharge for owning a truck or suv, which is no different in doing a smog check. I heard about this place through my dad, who told me of his coworker who had a coupon for $16.75 smog check plus $8.25 electronic DMV. We didn't have a coupon, but my dad called and they were nice enough to give that price regardless! I've had my share of over priced, rude smog establishments in the past, and I was skeptical of the coupon, as most places advertise a certain coupon price, and then hit you with the "exception charges" like older cars, trucks, suvs.. etc. but oh no, not here.. it was $25 out the door! I mean c'mon.. REALLY?! I thought I found the cheapest smog check in Oakland of $40, hell, was I wrong. Their price blows ALL competition out of the water. No joke. The smog test took less than 15 mins, and the waiting area is nice and comfy with a ton of up-to-date magazines so you can catch up on the latest juicy, useless kanye and kardashian drama.... don't lie, you totally read it! Tara, was very friendly and genuine, and really epitomizes the reason why we love and support family businesses. They also do check engine light repairs and other troubleshooting to get you on your way. Recently had our check engine light come on in our our new Range Rover Sport. With all the talk about mechanics overcharging for high end cars we were very reluctant to take it anywhere. Went ahead and approved to have Pleasanton Smog make the repairs and second smog check. Received call later that day telling us that no leak could be found and no repairs needed. We take a variety of cars (Chrysler 300C, Ford Expedition, Mercedes 1988 560SL convertible) here for smog, oil changes and the occasional repair. They are good at finding issues before you get stuck on the road wondering what happened. Would be perfect if communication was a little better. I have had them find stuff and bury the issues in the report rather than calling me and asking if I want the issue handled or not while it is in the shop. That can sometimes make for a second trip that might have been prevented, and at least would allay concerns raised when reading the report cold at home with no explanation. It is always a shock to pick up a car with nothing said and then get the report with new issues reported. They do email the reports which is a plus. read more

Price - LOWEST price thanks to a mailer coupon. Location - Not too hard to find. GPS guided me close enough, and the alleyway was thankfully blessed with a SMOG sign on the fence at the front entrance (off of Stanley). However, Google maps doesn't seem to get this one right as the building appears to be a lot closer to the Vervais Ave side street. they took an hour just to have a simple oil change. the guy raised my van. drained all the oil. in the meantime, they have another car below my van and processed the smog check. after 45 minutes, ot finally passed and my van was just seating on top of the lift for 45 minutes. bad management. wasted my time . will not go back there again. read more

This Five Star rating is quite overdue. These guys are great! More importantly though, they are honest and straight forward in a sincere way, making sure they are taking your needs and wants into consideration. I brought my 2002 Ford Explorer into their shop after a couple weeks of having the check engine light on, along with the car not getting out of first gear. Seriously, this car was ready to die. The only problem though was that I was not going to be able to get rid of the car any time soon due to costs of replacement. Without getting into all the details, these guys were able to work on the car just enough to where I could drive it until the time I could get a new one, making sure to do it at a price that, again, was affordable to me. Since then, I have purchased a new vehicle and was able to trade in the Ex for a price that I wasn't expecting before the work was done. I don't want you to get caught up in their ability to work efficiently on your car at a reasonable price. What I want you to get out of this is that their honesty and integrity for quality work can not be beat. I took my car here 6 months ago and they did an awesome job with my ac. I actually wrote a positive review, but I posted it for the wrong business. Whoops! I finally had to take care of my check engine light because I needed to get it smog tested. So I decided to come back here and have it done. Ally is very professional and welcoming. Brandon the mechanic explained the results of the diagnostics and how he intends to address the issue. Everything was fixed and the amount I paid was the amount he quoted. No funny business what so ever. Just like my last visit. They even gave me the part that caused the vacuum leak. They also explained that during their inspection, my left axle boot is leaking from a small crack. Which actually makes sense because I noticed it when I park my car. BTW, my car has over 225,000 miles on it, so it's basic wear and tear. They told me that I'll need to get it repaired in the future. Most importantly, they didn't pressure me to get it done like other shops I've experienced in the past. It's just something that I'm aware of and I can plan to address it. More than likely after Christmas. Overall, I recommend their business to others that are out there looking for legit mechanics. It's no surprise that they have such a high rating on yelp. read more

Great service and price. Called in on a Friday at 9:30am and was told there is no wait. Headed down and my car was in the stall right away. Total came out to $34, the cheapest i've found. I didn't know they take Check of Cash only. After my SMOG i told them i didn't have cash, they let me cruise to the bank in my car and come back. Not many places will do anything like that for a customer. They trust people and will do the right thing. The 1 star rating is totally bogus on Yelp and G oogle. For my 100th review I expected to make it for some restaurant I loved! However, it is for Pleasanton Smog and I'm glad. Pleasanton Smog was the cheapest I found in the area and close to my apartment. The customer service was quick and friendly. The location is easy to find and if you have to wait, downtown Pleasanton is the next street over, so you could have a nice relaxing time perusing the downtown area while waiting. I know I did! The only drawback was that they only take cash or check which wasn't a problem because they are conveniently located right next to Wells Fargo. I have a coupon for another smog check place for my husband's car, but I get the feeling that I will be taking his car here as well! read more

I researched several smog testers in the area and chose this business based on the overwhelming positive reviews here on Yelp. I was a walk-in today about an hour before my DMV appointment and only had to wait 5 minutes before they took my car. (I went around 9AM and called ahead to make sure that there was no delay) The receptionist Tara was very personable and the emissions check was about 15-20 minutes. I got to the DMV in time for my appointment and only paid about $45. My boyfriend will be going there next and I'm happy to suggest this place to anybody that needs to get a vehicle tested. I'm very fortunate to have found Pleasanton Smog and Repair's coupon within the local Tri-Valley news pamphlet. Why? Simple and straightforward: They offer a $16.75 smog check service! With certificate fees, I was told that most newer cars could get a smog check and certificate for $25 out the door. ...Wait what??? Most other places charge at least $40...and I've tried places all over the bay area. Who knew there was this gem of smog check station just a few miles from my house?? I had to smog a 1994 Miata, so with the new STAR standards, the technician was required to administer an EVAP test. Even with the extra test, I walked out the door after having only paid $40. Total. Score! Like other smog check stations...you do need a coupon, otherwise you'd pay a "standard price". (I don't understand why smog check places do that...) Pleasanton Smog and Repair was relatively easy to find, and it's a walk-in, so...first come, first serve. The staff is very friendly, and the waiting area has a nice leather couch, sturdy seats, and a generously sized TV so you can watch TV to pass the time if needed. Each test takes about 15 minutes, and the technicians are courteous and treat their customers' cars with utmost care. I will definitely come back here to smog my car again in the future, and the rest of my family's cars as well. With great prices (with a coupon!), friendly staff, and nice facility, I have found my go-to smog check station. Five stars!! read more

After I moved to bay area in 2012, I chose this shop for oil change and smog check before registering my vehicle in CA. The price for oil change was obviously better than other shops near by. The first time when I visited their shop, a guy (sorry I forgot his name) told me in a very frankly way that my car wouldn't pass smog check and I should fix it first before wasting money doing smog check; he also offered me to get the car fixed and make sure to have it passing smog check. After visiting two other shops around Pleasanton, I went back and accepted the deal. The problem was worse than they originally estimated, and it took longer for them to get the car fixed: * I sent the car to the shop sometime in the morning, and expected to get it in the afternoon; * Around 2PM-3PM Jake called me saying there were another problem and will take $xxx money for it (labour and parts); I accepted it. * Around 5PM-6PM Jake called me again saying there were something else that needed to be replaced and will take $xxx money for it (labour and parts), and I accepted it.They also told me that the car won't be ready on the same day. * The next day was a Sunday. Jake continually worked on it and called me later on that the car was fixed. He drove the car to my place and gave it back to me (without asking me to pick it up). Jake sent me a bill of about $400 for that, and I was definitely happy with that price: * I knew my car had some problem that was very hard to be diagnosed, and I had visited other stores before but none of them (including technicians from Chevy) could get the problems fixed. * Jake did spend lots of time on it, including working on Sunday morning for that. * Although they did ask for different prices about 3 times, they didn't add them up and try to charge me more. Although they spent more hours than expected, they didn't ask me to pay for all of that. * The price also included a smog check certificate! My experience with Pleasanton Smog and Repair was very happy (both for oil change and smog check), and I'd like to recommend it to people around Pleasanton. read more

This place is fantastic! Got my smog check (not the star) for $25 and I didn't have to even watch! Only reason is because its cash only when using the coupon (not a problem though). I had to walk a few blocks down to chase to get some cash. And along the way found some neat shops and had myself some ice cream on a nice warm day. Anyways, I got back to the shop and my car was ready to go with DMV papers and invoice ready to go. As soon as I got home that night I was able to go onto the DMV website and paid my fees. I thought my 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid never needs to be smogged, it was a rude awakening requirement that mailed with the 2015 registration forms from CA DMV, totally a surprise this year. Good thing Pleasanton Smog & Repair does this at a very reasonable price with a coupon paying cash. My 180k+ miles Honda easyly passed with flying color, but I was $25 poorer for this new CA DMV requirement. We have brought our car to Pleasanton Smog & Repair 2x now. First time was to fix a smog problem, that even the auto service centers could not diagnose correctly. Pleasanton Smog & Repair diagnosed and fixed the car in a day. A couple of weeks after, we brought same car in for an AC problem, and they were able to fix it within a day.
