Long lines and infrequent service. Lack of knowledge on prices. Bad customer service.

You can always tell a Mom & Pop chain of indie supermarkets. Logo created in 5 minites because they thought the warp tool in Adobe Illustrator was cool? Check. Blah store design? Check. Dirty floors? Check. 'Bakery' products that were baked somewhere else? Check again. You get the idea. I've been seeing the spots for Superior for sometime so I had a little hope. What I didn't realize was it's a Hispanic but lightyears behind Vallarta. Yes, the aisles are big and some of the prices are decent. But nothing spectacular that would really want you to take a drive. One interesting thing is being a Hispanic market, they have a 'Tortilla Factory' in the front offering freshly made tortillas and chips. Actually, really thick chips. Doesn't save the market from getting a thumbs down though. read more

I liked this place b4 my visit today. I was disgusted my the gnats in in the food. Back to stater bros. I like superior because of the bollio and bakery items. The produce today was horrible. I asked the worker about all the rotten, moldy onions and wilted cilantro and since the construction they aren't taking care of the produce like before. I still tried to shop but the gnats inside the bakery items were gross. Health violations everywhere. I was so disappointed asked for for the store manager and some guy heard me and was like ok I will get the manager even though they had paged for a 13 or 16. The bigger guy with the mustache said nothing. He was supposed to be the store manager? Not one word or apology just , ok. I'll stick to staters I just wish Northgate was closer. read more

Definitely not your typical so-cal grocery store but always worth the trip. Good prices on produce are a highlight. They have a variety of unique products and its always good to try something new. Check out Superior I don't think you'll be disappointed. read more

Great place for a deal on fruits and veggies. I took up juicing recently and I will not go anywhere else but here for my goods. I always walk out of this store with at least 5-10 bags full of fruits and veggies for 5-10 dollars. You don't find that often. Their fruit is locally grown which is why it cost less. They also often have great meat and shrimp deals. I am a sucker for shrimp so I am always looking for a deal on it. read more

I only go here when I need something that the local Albertsons doesn't have, I got their carne asada before, it's ok. Their guacamole is disgusting just like the long lines that you have to wait in to pay for a 12 pack of Victoria. Their produce and bakery are pretty good and there's always a deal. Also, if you're hungry while putting away your groceries, there's a lady selling tamales for $1, get there while you can! read more

Overall I do like shopping at Superior. I love how they have a section in the meat area where you can get bacon ends or chunks of ham (for cooking with beans) and smoked turkey legs and wings. I would have given 5 stars but for the fact that my particular store (south el monte) doesn't accept internet printed manufacturers coupons which is a complete bummer because with today's economic situation, many families are using coupons more and more these days. Many coupons are readily available on the internet which makes it easier for families to save but not at this store. :( read more

I only shop here for the fruits and vegetables. Super cheap. Beware, however, this store stinks. I mean litterly. It smells so bad and is so dirty. I also can't get over how many customers and their kids, get away with just stuffing fruit and other food in their mouths and not paying for it. You know who I'm talking about. They walk around the store opening packages of chips and crap , eating the contents, then tossing the bag, and nobody does anything about it. Thank God for places that cater to all ethnicities and not the cookie cutter norm in the OC! I was so glad to find some foods closer to my ethnic makeup without having to have someone in NY send it to me! Thank God for the Goya products! Funny how the Hispanics run this place, but the asians own it. Large Caribbean products, but definitely could be more. This is my spot when looking for the items I need to keep me close to "home". They are opened on holidays too! Perfect. You know people of color never have everything they need...we can always go pick something up from the store that we forgot or someone forgot to bring. Oh and the prices are reasonable too. Caters to a different demographic. You can tell it aint Albertsons! Ha! read more

This is the place I go to get produce. Great prices, and my boyfriend is a huge fan of the store brand tortilla chips.

Great for meal prepping, veggies and meats are super affordable, in a week I spend about $20-22 for Tilapia, Asparagus, Chicken and broccoli/Veggies. read more

I rarely buy anything from this store because it seems like something I buy is always spoiled. I bought 2 packs of chicken breast one day, I was going to separate them and freeze them the next day cuz I was tired. I put them in the refrigerator. The next morning not even 15 hours later I open one pack and its was already rank. I took them back. Same thing with hamburger meat, steak, fish and watermelon. This weekend I bought two containers of watermelon already cut up. Got home and I started eating one of them. It was good at first. Then a they started to taste sour so I stop eating it. I put it in the kitchen on the counter and went to bed. The next morning it was rank and bubbling awww man thinking about it makes my stomach hurt all over again. I took it back to the store, I spoke to the manager and he stared at for a while, he looked at me then he stared at some more then he said well I can't take that one back cuz you ate some of it. I said that's fine, but I don't want this one either. I don't know was wrong with him he just kept staring at it, finally he walked over to the cashier to have her refund me. I told him that wasn't the first time I had gotten spoiled food there. He got an attitude saying no I didn't, they don't sell spoiled food so on and so fourth. I said yes you do and left. read more

This is my go to place for all produce and the occasional other goods. I'm a huge omnivore (more so than I am carnivore), so fruits and veggies are a staple in my house. I don't do too much of the organic blah blah blah because honestly unless I grew it myself, how do I know you grew it organically? (Yeah, I'm Skeptical Sally) Seriously though, I go to bigger named stores (ie Ralph's, Stater Bros) and see a 6oz bag of Popeye's spinach for $1.99, whereas at Superior you can get 2 10oz bags of Popeye's spinach for $3...yeah bet your bottom I'm gonna go with Superior. They don't always have all the produce I like in stock but the ones they usually do have are a steal and it pushes me to change up my menu for the week. They sometimes have deals on some canned beans and sauces I need and also once in a while they have GREAT deals on their almond milks (also another staple in the house). I love walking past their panaderia, ohh the smell of fresh baked goodies..I haven't gotten anything from their bakery but there's always lots of people crowding up the area. Only thing I wouldn't come here for is their meat, some of it doesn't look so fresh. Overall, If you're shopping on a budget, my recommendation is here. read more

I came here to get some carne asada on my way to a BBQ. The prices are unbeatable on meat. I got alot of carne asada for a very good price and it tasted great. The meat department employees were very friendly. We also wandered the aisles in the bakery department and they had great prices on the bakery items. I got 4 Mexican style pastries for under 3.00. The big bag of tortilla chips was a great value too and tasted so good. They make their own tortillas too! The produce area in the front of the store looked well stocked but I did not really browse around since I came for carne asada. When I checked out the line was a bit long and the lady in front of me, (clearly an immigrant) used a California golden state card to purchase about 200 dollars of groceries, which made me a little upset.....but that's what I get for coming into a predominatley Hispanic supermarket. Overall this was a good experience and although i will probably not do my regular grocery shopping here, the next time I am bringing meat to a BBQ I will pick it up here for sure! read more

Great prices for produce! Oranges 50 cents a pound, same for peaches and lots of other great fruit! Cheap cheap cheap. Last time I went I got watermelon for 7lbs for a buck. They have a huge selection too! However I do not recommend buying the meat there. Every time I buy chicken or beef there, it goes bad within 2 days... But everything else is great!!! read more

I spent more than 20 minutes in line getting just pasta sauce and tortillas. There were more than 8 people in each of the open lanes and clearly they needed to open more cash registers. I won't shop there again as this is a recurring problem. What's even more annoying, there was a horrible smell coming from the meat area. Just wretched. I don't see any managers on the ground. After reading the other reviews and given that smell, I won't be making my regular trip to get tortillas and pan dulce. read more

So dissapointed with the cashier customer service at the Superior store on 1st & Raight in Santa Ana, Ca. I was told by a manager of Superior to go on that register the cashier named Marisela Confronted me about it even when I told her I was told by one of them to go on that register who I thought was the manager as I saw him I told her you can ask him hes there she loudly confronting and disrespectful said "him his not a manager he is the cart guy" he reassured to her he had told me to go to her register...as this is taking place the cashier next to her was no go back to the line you are not getting getting check out here this register is closed...I told her I cant go back cause I was waiting my tirn in the other line when I waS told to come to this register is she closed the door on us even when our product was already in the conveyor belt, I have to admit marisela the cashier though she was rude and out of place by confronting me and the Superior male employee failed to exel at customer service. Miriam who closed the door in our face, continued to be rude and disrespectful she rudely had my 5 year old granddaughter moove engaged in an unprofessional conduct. I said if I report this to your manager he would not be happy with the Customer Service your giving, she loudly and confrontive said "tell them so they can fire me thats what I want Stupid" I responded to her you don't need to get fired if you don't like your job leave it for someone who will love it. Cashier name is Miriam. Miriam has no customer service skills and it makes the prestigious Superior brand look terrible. Though the manager on duty took my complaint and assured me he would take Care of the matter the bad expirience will persist. hopefully upper management will get involve and resolve this terrible incident our comunity deserves get treated right. read more

Im the kinda of person that once the weekly ads come in the mail on tuesdays, i compare to see what grocery store has the better deals. About 6 mths ago i saw the superior had really good deals of the chicken, ham and pork meat. When i went there on wednesday, everything was gone! I mean everything! I asked an employee at the meat department if they were going to bring out more meet and he told me that they are just allowed to take a certain amount??? So why put stuff on sale if you are not going to have your customers happy??? Another thing is that they always put limit on most of the meat and produce....Like this weeks AD has fresh boneless beef eye round roast on sale for 2.47lb and a limit of 2lbs!!! How im i going to make a decent dinner for 5 with just 2lbs??? Also the pork ribs are on sale as well for 97cents lb but still a limit of 2lbs??? Thats why I now go to EL SUPER that has unlimited everything! read more
