I was recommended to come here by a coworker that lived in San Antonio and I am SO glad I came. My mom and I made a reservation and were seated promptly. Our waitress was really nice and made some good recommendations. My mom and I both ordered salads: kale Caesar and the wedge salad. Both of them were delicious and fresh. My Caesar salad was good but they did a little too much with the croutons. For our main course we ordered the fried and smoked quail. That was the most unique and delicious dish I've ever had. We enjoyed our Thanksgiving dinner here! We had never been to this restaurant before, despite being frequenters of the bar in Hotel Emma. When we decided to stay in town for Thanksgiving, we wanted to give the restaurant a try. I had the Thanksgiving Dinner and my partner had the steak. First time here and I'm surprised that I haven't ate before with the amount of times I've been to the Pearl! It is right next to/part of Hotel Emma, so you can validate your parking with valet. I'd highly recommend doing that, it was super easy especially going on a Saturday evening. We made reservations for 3, sat down right away inside, with the most amazing view of the river and lights. What a fun dinner in the Pearl district! Caught up with friends to try this place and was not disappointed. The three of us shared some of the small tastes and two big plates, finishing off with a delicious panna cotta. The hot smoked salmon was amazing (perfect cook, slightly sweet glaze , we had to ask for extra bread to finish it all), and the scallop was well done (not over cooked). The pimento cheese came with a fun giant thin breadstick and dumplings were like little gnocchi bites (both on the saltier side). I liked the Caesar (felt like a real dressing with anchovies), although it was on the heavier side (dressing and cheese coverage). My wife and I had the most amazing dinner date, the food the service both were fantastic. Our server Angel was beyond fantastic, very intuitive and polite, all of the staff were professional and friendly it was very pleasing. We sat next to the window which over looked the river, this gave us a lovely view while we enjoyed our drink and meal. My wife's had the risotto which was my least favorite of the night. We had a recent business breakfast for7 that included 3 out of state execs who had never been to San Antonio before. Since we had reservations, our combined tables were set up and ready when we arrived. Simple, classic dinnerware looked just right. Our group ordered a variety: cheddar omelet, avocado toast topped with a poached egg, "Simple Breakfast" - eggs, Polish sausage, sourdough toast. We also had a plate of fabulous bacon and an even better pancake to share around the table. The food was EXCELLENT! Nothing tasted simply ordinary. The out of state guests were very impressed! I use to go there all of the time to grab a glass of wine and eat after I finished with my classes. Well today, I was at my job and the Chef of hotel emma came to my job. I opened the door for him and he was rude, mean and very unprofessional. He thought I was a student but never asked who I was. I am military and a Chef. Even if I was a student professionalism goes a long way no matter who you are talking to. He started walking around, I asked if he needed anything because strangers are not allowed to just walk around. He continually was nasty and the other Chef (who was with him) even had to apologize for his behavior. I won't be at this establishment again, no matter who a person is being respectful to others go a long way than being nasty because of your position. Since he just passed away right before Samhain, we wanted to do Yule right. So, we went to Supper. Wow! We both had been wanting to go here. We had thought it was still a multi course meal service, it's not, but what it is was absolutely phenomenal food, service, ambiance & company. Even the portion sizes for the prices were good, IMO. I ordered the steak tartar. It was from the first bite, mind blowingly good. The steak was prepared perfect. The spices were so good. You know after you're done with a bite & you have that after taste & your brain is telling you more, more more, but at some point your brain says stop? It's been hours & my brain still wants more of that meal. I've had steak tartar in Germany, Italy, England & various places here in the US, but I'd have to state this was by far the best seasoned ice had to date. The price was really decent too. It was only $22 for the meal. I'll be back. It's new to the menu, just added last week. So, be sure to get it while you can. I'm thinking of going back for Yule just to have it again. It's that good! I ate the entire thing. My friend had a few bites. She was as impressed as I was. I did not try her duck salad though. But, she said it was tasty. Oh boy, heading out to the Pearl. What a gift. We were invited for breakfast and what a blessing. The area is great to walk along, shop and definitely eat. We went for breakfast, but you could get anything on the menu. Chef prepared, chef inspired. The waitress was wonderful, but we were a big party, and some things got missed. Had to wait for coffee a couple of times. Still a very nice place to eat. I had the Huevos con Rajas y migas. I love migas, but I like somple migas, this was wet and very different, not what I'm used to. Not saying it's bad, just not for me. I also had the Blueberry cream cheese kolache. Tough Call on this. So, I am going to break it down. Breakfast.. off the hook, bring a big appetite. Massive amount of food, great coffee, fun service. Potato's were crunchy/soft inside. Eggs cooked as I asked them to and snarsage was delicious. Seriously good with a mimosa. Dinner.. I dunno. Pimento Dip came with a skateboard made from a sesame seed cracker. Not seriously, but the cracker was massive. Which was fun. The dip itself was flavorfully Pimento-e. Not as cheesy as if you bought a jar of Pimento Cheese from your local 7-11, but hey, this is some nice dining shiz establishment and it was called Pimento Dip, not Pimento Cheese dip, so that is on me. Okay, this is a new thing going around that I have seen and it makes me feel like I'm in a high chair with a parental unit playing "airplane" in order for me to eat my supper. My berkshire pork chop came sliced off the bone and neatly fanned out on the plate. I guess to prove to me it was cooked appropriately? To make the dish look purty? Me no likely. Two things, one the chop actually cools much faster on the plate then it would if it were to be in one piece. Secondly, I cannot pick it up by the bone and Fred Flintstone the thing. Suzie went for something more elegant with the Seared Red Snapper. Fitting for a lady to nosh on and I stole a couple of bites. It was very good. We split an Iceberg wedgy salad to begin with. I think that their shipment of lettuces reflected the drought TX is currently in. We should of just got our own, rather than splitting half of a half a lettuce head. The service was spirited and seemed to work well as a team effort. We opted to head to the bar rather than hanging around for an after dinner drink or desert. Bar.. Very small bar only seats probably about 7-9 folks, but the people we met was pretty awesome. The bartenders were fabulous. A 7-8 yr veteran who has culinary skills, power lifting biceps and a terrific smile was polite and efficient. A Chiquita who prides herself in making a coffee based cocktail that packed the punch like doing a line of something on the bar top in the late 70's, don't judge, it was the 70's. It was delicious and the process involved fire and alcohol. Some of my favorite things. We encounter other barkeeps during out stay, they all did a fantastic job and fun to interact with in an intimate setting. The bar area was surprising busy with locals, which says a lot about the vibe. Unfortunately, on the last night in, there was a fun group of dudes hanging and one of them had to be reminded to not lay his head on the bar. He defo had his full. Not a big issue, we were making our way up to our room anyway, when they were at peak bro-dumb. Definitely would hang there any time we would be in the area. It is in a hip spot with cool shops and attached to a chique hotel. And we got there on a sat morning with few people there. The service was good. Our waitress was on top of it. But the food.... I expected better. Only thing about the waitress is she didn't serve the ladies first until I said something, I mean it is Texas. I ordered the salmon bagel, the salmon was not smoked it tasted almost raw. I wanted smoked. It said capers and didn't come with any. Or onions. It tasted like good quality but just missed the mark. Two in our group ordered some eggs (said three eggs scrambled and it was lucky if it was one egg let alone 3). They skimped a bit. My spouses work had a dinner here on Saturday and I am thankful spouses were included! I was allergic to the first dish because it had sweet potatoes in it. I am so happy I was. They brought out the worlds greatest Risotto.... It had a single strip of cheese in it and it melted in my mouth. I am happy to go there just for the risotto. It was perfect. We had a family style meal and they brought out Fried Quail, cauliflower and Brussel sprouts, branzini (fish), tenderloin, everything meat wise had a vegetable and mashed potatoes, shrimp hush puppies and more. I only snapped a picture of the dessert because we were taking some home. The staff was incredibly attentive even though they had a full house. I have some bazaar allergies, it was nice that the waitress wrote them down and they brought out separate dishes for me without even making a fuss or acknowledging them in front of the crowd. It was perfect We pick a nice restaurant to take the family for our birthdays every year. I thought I had mine picked for my Feb birthday. Now, I think Supper is in first place. Every thing they served was just fantastic. They even sent out French fries while everyone was having drinks and everyone raved about them because they had a kick to them. Went on a Monday when the restaurant only offered breakfast items. We had reservations for two people. I've had good dining experiences at Supper in the years past, quite some time ago however this last visit was a total fail. Service was slow beginning with the fact there was no hostess at hostess stand and we had to wait awkwardly for longer than we should have and to finally be seated. Ordered classic American breakfast and made it clear to our server I wanted over easy and to make sure eggs were not going to be brought with runny whites. Friend ordered French Omelet. After server took our order we did not see her again until after our food was brought to our table. Slow service. In the meantime we needed refill on coffee and I needed to place a cocktail order which I finally ordered by flagging down some other server tending to another table. Took forever to get drink- drink was brought to table when we were almost done eating. But we didn't finish half our food/did not eat our food because it was not good!! My eggs were brought with runny whites which is disgusting. The potatoes were cold and tasted like they had been frozen. My friends omelet hardly contained any ham. I tasted his omelet. Bland, tasteless, so unimpressive. We've had much better breakfasts at even a chain restaurant. Will no be returning to Supper. read more

This is our second time eating here. The wife and I ate breakfast here a couple weeks ago and honestly it was in the top five breakfasts ever. It was defiantly cooking on another level. Maybe two levels. So why you ask the one star. That is because we invited our good friends to Christmas lunch at Supper based on the aforementioned experience. Hotel Emma is so beautiful and we wanted to have a special meal with our friends on Christmas Day. Arriving just before our 4 pm reservation time, we were very excited to see what was the holiday fare. After being seated, our waiter, an extremely courteous man, took our drink order. Looking around the spacious room, I remember telling my friend that I would have hated being the trim carpenter for that dining room. I was beautifully done and very well preserved the era gone by. The holiday menu had the expected traditional meal: ham, dressing, green beans, and a Parker House Roll. But for the seafood lover, the seven fish dish. I am defiantly a seafood lover being raised in Galveston; however, a couple fish dishes passed by on their way to another table and that seafood aroma didn't usher in the yule tide nostalgia. Additional offerings included a cheeseburger, a steak, and quail too. So a fairly rounded menu. The ham was $65...but it was Christmas so no complaints here. I ordered the $26 cheeseburger and fries. It was my treat and I didn't mind the premium pricing as long as the food was worth it. The wife, with her persnickety pallet, ordered the safe ham entree. Fifteen minutes of conversation prior to our food arrival. Before the plate left the waiter's hand, I could tell this $65 pig could be scraped straight into the refuse container because my wife was not going to eat that plate-no way. My burger was way over cooked and not good. So disappointing! The friends faces told me everything. What happened???? The cook must have taken the holiday off and they grabbed one of the valet attendants to take his place. Seriously, this was bad! That's a $500 bill that I wish I would have spent at McDonalds and bought 150 Happy Meals to distribute to the homeless. I will not likely return even though my first experience was exceptional. My wife and I celebrated our 33rd wedding anniversary at Supper in the Emma hotel. We had such a great time that we decided to go again and we were not disappointed. Sydney and Paola made our anniversary a wonderful and memorable night. The atmosphere was wonderful and Paola was our main server. We love the turn of the century architecture and the level of service we received is rare and a great value for our money. Paola and Sydney are true professionals and deliver the level customer service that is second to none. It was busy when we arrived but Paola never failed to be present and in the moment when she was assisting us. She was knowledgeable and made managing her station look effortless. She paced when our drinks, salads, meals and desert with impeccable timing. The cooks even placed a hand made chocolate with happy anniversary written on it. Sydney had two glasses of champagne sent to us. Details like these, excellent service, beauty, cleanliness of the restaurant and its bathrooms are evidence that this staff values its' customers. I can't thank Paola, Sydney, and the other staff enough for gifting my wife and I such a wonderful night. I had the Black Cod Al Pil Pil, and my friend had the Chicken Ballotine--both dishes were shockingly small and completely bland. I've been on a detox for the past six weeks , slowly reintroducing foods back into my diet. Today was the first day that I would reintroduce lean beef. Since I've never been good at cooking steaks, I decided to go out to eat, also for the first time in six weeks. So, I sent to Supper. I had already heard great things about this place. So I put in my Wednesday's best and headed over. I made reservations for 7pm on the outdoor patio and was about 5 minutes late. The servers greet me as I entered. They were super friendly from the start. My server, Jean, was great! He took my order swiftly as I already knew what I wanted. Although service was great and attentive, it took my food a long time to come out (about 7:35pm when it came out). I ordered the fillet with mashed potatoes and vegetables. The food was not hot temperature-wise, so I was able to eat immediately without blowing my food to cool it off. The.Steak. Was. ....I don't have words, ok?! Best tasking steak ever! It was moist, tender, and tasty. The mashed potatoes was creamy and seasoned perfectly. And the vegetables were just as good as the steak! I didn't order drinks or dessert and my bill was $56. Although it was hot outside, there were plenty fans on the patio that kept me comfortable. The food was extremely satisfying, service was great , and the seating was perfect. I haven't had much luck with highly rated restaurants in San Antonio. I came here when they were serving lunch. I like lunch and I hadn't eaten all day so great! I was cooly greeted upon entering. The hostess simply stared at me and then suggested I sit at the bar. Ok, I like sitting at bars but I like sitting outside more but whatever works. The hostess stand is off to the side and felt a little weird positioning because many missed it upon entering. The bar was fairly small yet there were only three other people there. There was plenty of room, not very busy. The bartender asked me very formally what I wanted. Honestly I wasn't sure if the bartender was a person or a machine by the end of my meal. He asked what I wanted and then moved on. There was no interaction. He never asked me how my food or drink was. He asked if I wanted anything else after everything was finished but that was it. It was about the same level of service I expect at McDonald's. He didn't seem happy to be there. He didn't seem to be upset to be there. He just seemed to be there. I expected more based on the reviews and the description that the website gave. It isn't an inexpensive restaurant. The burger was good. It was a tad salty, but it had plenty of cheese. The chips were decent. The cocktail was fine. I couldn't recommend this restaurant to anymore for being simply adequate. The atmosphere was cold and formal. This was such a fun place for brunch. A couple of friends and I met up for an outside brunch. The patio is beautiful and they are well equipped for nature. They had heaters, blankets, and a big fan defender (kept the bugs away from food). The cocktail menu is really interesting. I first ordered the Sunset on Saturday which I was told is a fan favorite and to which I agree! If you can't decide, decide on the Sunset on Saturn. After that drink another waiter approached our table and told us the story of the 3 Emma's (restaurant is inside Hotel Emma). I HIGHLY recommend asking to hear the store it's filled with scandal and entertainment. After being told the story we HAD to order the cocktail which is named Three Emmas. It was good as well, definitely something to say you experienced. Overall I still recommend the Sunset on Saturn. For brunch I ordered the Poached Egg on Smashed Avocado and Grain Toast with Spicy Pepita Crunch (try saying that 10 times) and crispy gold potatoes. The poached egg on toast is their version of a Benedict. It was really good! I wasn't sure about the grains but yea the grains are good. Really it's and exquisite dish. Perfect for brunching. With the potatoes I was left feeling stuffed and happy. The potatoes had a sour cream with them and it all paired so well. I was actually ok with paying $5 for crispy potatoes. I came because my in-laws were visiting San Antonio and wanted to try it (though I insisted some authentic Mexican was the way to go like La Gloria's across the street). Sadly this place failed to prove me wrong. For starters, the menu is very limited. Especially for someone with a gluten and dairy allergy, there was not much to choose from. The service was alright but spotty. And the seating outside, what appears a nice setup, was swarming with flies and mosquitoes. I got eaten up while trying to swat away flies the entire meal. I will say the lemon drop was great. But that's where it ended for me. I ordered the club sandwich, gluten and dairy free, and disappointment is an understatement. Not only did the lackluster white bread fall apart, but the mayo was not spread and the chicken was plain and chewy. It was not worth finishing--nor was it worth the wait; It took long because they had accidentally made it on regular bread. I also am not confident the chicken was completely gluten free or maybe it was the sauce on the very plain and weak-tasting potato salad it came with, but I got sick shortly after eating. The rest of my group seemed to enjoy their meal to some degree, though the over-easy eggs were practically hard-boiled and the $18 french toast was a tiny square.
