Really fantastic Bbq. Can't wait to try more there. We tried the brisket but will be back for ribs and pulled pork

Pulled pork, brisket TENDER & JUICY. I can't even describe how I had flashbacks to my time in Texas. I am now in a food coma and on my way to take a 8 hour power nap. If you are ever at Cannon Beach, and do not feel like eating fish and chips, please come here and do your taste buds a favor.

A good thing we arrived for lunch just as it opened as the 22 seats filled almost immediately. One of the three employees working seemingly spent much of his time serving as crowd control from potential customers trying to grab a table. Our drinks were great. My wife's Bloody Mary, was smoky, pepper-amped, tomatoey deliciousness. And with hats off to Jason Derulo and Michael Bublé, I loved my spicy margarita, baby. The Brisket Sandwich my wife ordered was a disappointment. As unapologetic brisket snobs formerly from Texas, this didn't meet our standards; it was overly dry. A common flaw, brisket is a very tough cut of meat which takes a lot of time, attention and yes, fat, to prepare properly. I had the Grilled Cheese with smoked duck breast added. It was almost great, props for ooey-gooeyness and points for the tender smoky meat. However the aioli/jam spread was a bit off-putting to me. Still, a very good sandwich.

Since I was a party of one, I was seated at the back of the restaurant, which made my experience seem like I was watching people watching a band, which was disappointing. I asked if I could sit closer to the band, and was denied "in case a bigger party comes in". I get it, but it was frustrating to see a four-top directly in front of the stage remain empty all night long. While the BBQ is competent, it's nothing special. What is impressive, though, is that unlike literally every other BBQ restaurant I've ever been to, the more meats you get in your sampler, the portion size isn't decreased. The sampler platter gives you a FULL portion of everything offered, making it a veritable bargain, and enough food to feed two abnormally hungry adults. It was also impressive to observer pretty much everybody in attendance greeting everybody else personally. It seemed that everybody there knew everybody else, and that they were all regulars. There is also ample room for dancing, if you're into that sort of thing, as well as a bar area ("the pigpen") in which children ("piglets") are not permitted. The parking lot is a small gravel lot, with unmarked parking spaces, and street parking is limited.

My least favorite meat was the brisket, as it had some pretty big chunks of inedible fat. Other than that, I was quite pleased, and very full. There is an additional fee for not paying with cash.

The Depot has always been one of our favorite places for special occasions on the Long Beach…read morePeninsula. We own a house in Long Beach, and during the time we lived there full-time, this was our go-to spot for anniversaries and my husband's birthdays. It exudes that cozy, historic Seaview charm that invites you to relax and linger...warm, intimate, and full of character without being over the top. A true small-town and now not so hidden gem. My husband is a fan of their Old Fashioneds, particularly those with a smoked maple twist, and he often gravitates back to the slow-braised pork. Their current Southern Comfort Pork dish is just his style: slow-braised pork shoulder served over brown sugar yam mash with jalapeño creamed corn, green onion, and maple-bacon salsa. That's comfort food crafted with real culinary skill. As someone who follows a plant-based diet, I truly appreciate how The Depot makes an effort to accommodate vegetarian and vegan diners in a way that feels genuine rather than forced. Last winter, I was thrilled to discover the ginger-coconut soba noodles, they were flavorful, satisfying, and perfectly balanced. Their current mika soba noodles with garlic-ginger coconut cream, vegetables, toasted cashews, and cilantro are exactly the kind of dish I'm thankful to find on a Peninsula menu. I also have fond memories of Burger Wednesdays from our time on the Peninsula. It's incredible how satisfying a customized portobello burger can be when a kitchen understands texture and seasoning especially in a place where plant-based options can still be scarce. The food is fantastic, but the service deserves a special mention. While Peninsula restaurants are known for their good service, The Depot's service is exceptional: polished, friendly, warm, and just the right amount of attentive. Although we now reside in California, we plan to make another reservation when we return to the Long Beach Peninsula in July. I'm already looking forward to their summer menu. Note: I've forgotten to take photos so the ones on this review are from the restaurants social media - definitely a reflection of our last meal at The Depot without the drinks.

We arrived before 5:00 pm, and it took a while to even put an order in. Even though we were sitting in the bar and there were a LOT of servers/bussers/etc. We ordered the Mushroom burger, the Chicken Bacon Guac burger and the Prime Rib Dip. Let's start with the pros - the Chicken Bacon Guac burger was pretty good! But the Prime Rib Dip had something like shredded meat on it, not sliced meat. So, when you dipped it in the Au jus, chunks of meet fell into the Au jus. Be ready to fish them out with a fork! The Mushroom burger was an exceptionally thin burger. Our server asked how we wanted it cooked. But it didn't matter. A burger that thin was coming out well done, no matter what. It had mushrooms on it, but not many at all. And we ordered the Cajun Tater Tots. Tonight, it was just like someone cooked tater tots, then shook some seasoning on them, and maybe the lid fell off the seasoning? They were drenched in some kind of Cajun-adjacent spice. We had recently been telling visiting guests that the Lost Roo was the one consistent, reasonably priced restaurant on the peninsula. We're going to have to stop telling people that now. Sadly, it'll be a while before we go back.
