I ordered the Fried shrimp and oysters. Good item, but small portion. Was advertised on the menu as "large" but I disagree. My friend got the Captain's platter which was fried shrimp, fish, oysters, and scallops....good but too much fried things in my opinions. Another friend got the Chicken Shish Kabobs- those were delicious! The atmosphere is very cool. Behind the restaruant is a wooden dock leading out onto the beach with rows of Corn Hole set up along the way. Spot welcome for people of all ages. Pricey but typical for a beach seafood place like this in Destin. Very busy at all times. The wait seems to always be about 50-55 mins if you show up without a reservation so plan ahead. Good thing is, you can sit out back by the beach or order a drink at the bar to keep you company while you wait. If I were to come back, I'd come back for lunch or happy hour in the day time to take in the scenic views and I would order the Shish Kabobs. read more

Above average food for a tourist spot! Traveling during the pandemic, we were curious how touristy spots would be navigating the situation. We immediately felt at ease when we could simply scan a barcode with our phone and it sent a link to the menu. WE DIDN'T HAVE TO TOUCH THEIR MENUS! So nice. As for the service, AMAZING! I had never had chicken kabobs, but when I tried theirs, I was in heaven. And I don't know what they put in their lime rice, but that was magic as well! We were there for a wedding so had limited menu so can't speak for the entire menu but I paid the most I've ever paid for a steak and it wasn't nowhere near worth the price cause it came out with a wangy taste that I couldn't figure out and my sons and wife's was the same and we carried them home and fed to our dogs. Went there for dinner at around 6 pm on Saturday night. They said the wait was around 30 minutes which was reasonable. It actually took around 15 minutes so we were very happy. Service was great, a lot of teamwork among the staff. Food was pretty good. And of course the ocean view was perfect. Definitely a place we will return to in future trips. read more

Literally just came here to sit and get ate up by bugs for over a hour, finally got seated to turn around and see a bunch of termites crawling behind the booth, two them crawled on to me so I had to move seats then we told management and she laughed about it saying "one day these bugs will do what I need them to do" saying they were in her house to? Very unprofessional & disgusting restaurant no way these good yelp reviews are real most likely paid for. No way a 4 star restaurant has a bug infestation and very average over priced food. Very good view of the ocean, quick service and my server was a very awesome young man, I'd give this place a 5 star but my only gripe was the crab legs were lacking actual meat inside of them which I felt was a tad disappointing considering I paid $65 for them, granted it's not really any of the staffs fault they aren't in control of that, but I'd go back! read more

I really enjoyed this restaurant's vibe. We stayed walking distance and trekked on up one night around sunset. I loved the vibe. They have space blocked off on the beach for outdoor games like cornhole and jenga so there are plenty of things to do while you are waiting for a table. It seemed like a huge group of people had come just to get drinks and hangout in the great outdoor space they had created. The only reason for 3 stars and not higher would be that the food was nothing to write home about. The crab legs I got were warm, but not hot enough for them to stay warm for long. I can see myself grilling out and then would definitely come back up to hangout and play games/get drinks. Likely would skip the wait for the food. read more

Ok I am writing this as a 1st time visitor to Destin so since parking is very limited and delivery takes way to long I decided to Walk to the address to get some food well since during normal business they do not answer their phone I could have been told they do not take to go orders ! There were 5 calls made to the restaurant, waiting for over 10 minutes on hold after being told by automated phone msg that I was being transferred to the host, and a half mile walk that the phone is turned off. Pathetic and unprofessional customer service from this restaurant. Very poor communication on their part. I would think twice before coming here as the staff were rude and inconsiderate of the service they have provided. read more

The kids got "frozen chocolate milks" that came with chocolate drizzle whipped cream and a cherry on top - they loved them! Our fish lovers got the mahi-mahi (grilled and fried) and loved it. Our food was amazing, the staff attentive, and the atmosphere fun and relaxing. It was really windy out but I wouldn't let that keep you from enjoying the views. They do have large windows they can open and close at your preference if you'd rather eat inside. I didn't care for their veggies that much. I love zucchini but these were marinated in something I didn't like. But the mashed potatoes were good and so was the shrimp. The shrimp and grits are 100% worth it. read more

1. We had a group of 9 (10 counting a 6 mo. old). There were 2 seats left unoccupied at the end which apparently means fandoms can come sit at your table. One tried to kiss my son (the aforementioned 6 mo. old). We asked the server to remove them, she spoke to them briefly but they never left. 2. There will be an unauthorized charge on your bill to help save the Sea Turtles. I'm all for saving the sea turtles, but would appreciate the ask first. I'm giving them 5 stars for 3 reasons: (1) Location is incredible. While sitting at a window table, you're staring right out at the beach. (2) The shrimp and grits was unforgettable. Covered in Parmesan and andouille sausage, every bite melts in your mouth. (3) Clark. He was an incredible server. The Surf Hut is a fun place to go in the Destin area. Being right on the beach you get a great view. We came here for lunch and sat outside on their patio. We started off with the Shrimp and Crab dip was pretty good. I ordered shrimp and fries, was decent. My wife got a mahi-mahi fried sandwich with fries. Our server was very friendly and fun. About 12 months ago I wrote my very 1st Yelp review! It was a review of Acme Oyster House here in Miramar Beach. We're back again for Spring Break and tonight we're trying the popular Surf Hut restaurant. Located off the main drag Hwy 98, Surf Hut is a large restaurant built right on the beach. In keeping with the name the restaurant looks like a big wooden hut complete with wooden floors and walls. The entire south side of the restaurant overlooks the beach with large open windows. Yes the windows do close and the restaurant even has these cool-looking wood burning fireplaces scattered throughout the restaurant when it's cold. There is a full service bar with 3 large screen tvs surrounding the bar. They have a simple menu with the back page dedicated to their special drinks. Food prices range from $5 to $30. We wanted to start with the calamari which our waiter forgot and we ended up getting it at the end of our meal. No harm done because our entrees arrived amazingly fast! I mean crazy fast for such a busy night! Tammy and the girls tried the fish tacos. Not exactly sure what kind of fish, but the sauce mixed with the cabbage, pico degallo and guacamole tasted pretty good. You get two of them served with in soft tortillas and their signature cilantro lime jasmine rice topped with black beans. The rice was very flavorful with the right amount of lime. Matthew tried the BBQ and Chicken Kabob. He ordered it with fries and their cucumber & red onion salad. The salad was a good contrast to the sweet flavor of the BBQ sauce. The ribs were well cooked and peeled right off the bone, but the terriyaki grilled dark meat hit the spot! I was hungry so I tried the Captain's Platter. I got a Yuge plate of fried shrimp, scallops, oysters and fish with a small cup of their gumbo. The gumbo wasn't the best but it was very good and loaded with fixins'. My favorite were the fried shrimp, but they were all very good right down to their homemade tartar sauce. The batter they used was very thin and that's how it should be done so you taste more of the seafood than just batter. Unfortunately that was the case with the fried calamari. The batter used was thicker and they were overcooked just a tad. Our server was excellent. He was attentive and prompt. Did I mention that our food arrived quickly? The place was incredibly busy for a Monday night but then again this is "vacation" season. The Surf Hut is not unlike the many other seafood restaurants in this area, but tonight they delivered the goods and did it well. read more

Not much to say. It was so so, personally I found old Florida fish house a w h o l e lot better. Very pricey, had grouper, was supposed to be blackened, with blackened shrimp on top. The sides were better than the fish, and shrimp. It could have been their seasonings I don't know, but the blackened grouper sandwich at Old Florida Fish house was astronomical better than the blackened grouper plate. Won't come back. Fantastic friendly staff and excellent food. We spent 2 nights at the embassy suites across the street. We originally thought we would eat one night at the hotel and one at surf hut. After 10 minutes waiting for a waiter to acknowledge us at the hotel we got up and walked to surf hut. So glad we did! Wound up eating there both nights.
