It's a tourist attraction. Nothing is really bad or really good. It's just on the beach and has a bar inside. Waitstaff is okay, fairly attentive. They get the basics down and don't go above and beyond. Priced like a tourist attraction. read more

This is a cool spot because it's right on the beach! They have some game set up and a walkway you can go down to the beach. I highly recommend the smoked tuna dip; it was phenomenal. This is a very clean nice place in a great location. This is why it gets 2 stars. After reading some not so good reviews my husband and I decided to stop in for drinks. We had one drink each and the bill totaled $30. Unfortunately the drinks tasted so horrible we couldn't even choke them down. On our way out to the beach we threw them in the trash. Hungover and a few hours after brunch our group of 8 decided we needed more food and a little hair of the dog. So we walked down the beach from our condo to the Surf Hut. They have a great outdoor area with sand and a few tables on a covered deck. Open air feel inside due to the large windows that they open on nice days. The breeze and view of the ocean were just what the doctor ordered. We settled down inside as there were not any available tables out back on the deck. They have lots of specialty cocktails you can order with souvenir cups (that you can take to go if you want). Our favorites were the Bushwacker, Hang Ten Tea and the Top Shelf Margarita. We ordered a variety of food for the table including a couple of cups of Gumbo (delicious) and salads then Peel and Eat shrimp (good not great but good and a nice amount of Old Bay on them) and the Shrimp and Crab dip with chips (very good). Our server was excellent and very patient (have you tried serving 8 hungover women...its not easy). At one point I wandered around the restaurant and found out that on the front they have a deck with 3 high top tables and two large tvs. I'm sure in the summer time this area is packed with people waiting for a table but this time of year it was empty. We finished our food and headed out there to enjoy the breeze and have a few more drinks. The only negative from the afternoon was two of us witnessed an employee leave the restroom without washing her hands. Other than that it was the perfect way to spend the late afternoon. read more

Giving this place 3 stars. 2 for food and 1 extra star for service. I can tell why people love this place because of the location but the food is very mediocre at best. The service was quick and excellent!!! The crab and shrimp appetizer was okay. I had the grouper sandwich with a tiny piece of barely seasoned fish. My fiancé had the trio tacos and he enjoyed the pulled pork and fish but didn't really care for the shrimp. Overall, good place to get a drink but the food is average at best. I can't speak to the rest of the menu but we have other favorites places we would rather go. read more

We had a party of 6. The wait after we were seated was about 15-20 minutes. A appetizer was brought over complimentary due to the wait. It was chips and a cheesy dip. The chips were stale and soft. I'm not typically a huge fan of restaurants on the beach - the view is usually spectacular but the food is usually subpar. This was our 2nd trip to Surf Hut - not sure why I didn't write a review last year but...here we go! I am a huge lover of fish tacos - and I have yet to find, in Destin, the perfect ones. Because of my fish taco experience in 2015, we were back to Surf Hut again! PERFECT fish tacos, people! I love the menu, the scenery and service has been awesome both times! If anyone wants a restaurant, on the beach, I now recommend Surf Hut to them. Forget The Back Porch and Pompano Joe's - this is IT. My only "eh" of the trip is that the owner/manager (?) lingered a bit too long at each table - it got extremely uncomfortable for a few minutes. I wasn't sure if he was the owner or just a random older man, walking around, chatting up kids. I'm NOT trying to be rude - but, this was totally ALL of our perception. Food 4/5 stars, service 10/5! Went to eat with our small children (4 yrs, 11 mos) on a Friday night. Were in and out in an hour. Food was good. We had shrimp and crab dip as an appetizer, it tasted more like a Mexican style queso than it did seafood. One of us had the grouper which was phenomenal and the other had mahi mahi that was slightly dry but still good, just paled in comparison to the grouper. Strawberry mojito is a must. This restaurant shined when it came to the service. Our waiter was extremely attentive and the wait for food was minimal. Besides our waiter there were multiple other staff that tended to our kids, the youngest dropped her paci and other toys and it seemed like someone was always right there to pick it up before we could even get to it. We kept talking about how much staff the place seemed to have. They all worked together well and made our experience great. Would go back for the service alone! read more

A very convenient place for us to go as it is right next door. Service was good. The fried shrimp had more batter than I like. And needed some spice. The hamburger was not the best either. Terrible service, DO NOT waste your time or money. I would give 0 stars if I could was there for my dinner rehearsal and it was ruined we waited for 3+ hours and we got told to leave. We were outside waiting and being waited by one host for just drinks and appetizers, I tipped her even being served horribly, never brought utensils, or drinks we waited for 20 mins for one drink. Yes I was so patient because we were a large group and the professional way of handling it should of been her letting her manager know she needed back up not lie and state she wasn't being tipped, even then you get tipped by service courteous friendly service and not automatic. Mind you we've been here before and never had this experience is why I chose this place food was never great but I enjoyed the view. We saw this place yesterday and it looked great. Sit outside. It's the best view. Beach is right there. Shelly orders the burger and I had a bite. It was amazing!! I know this sounds silly but the cole slaw was great too!! I had the fried shrimp. Its six jumbo shrimp split and stuffed with lobster then wrapped in bacon. It's one of their specialties. It was good. Very good but honest the bacon consumes the flavor. So anything fried in bacon can't go wrong but I couldn't taste the sweetness of the lobster and shrimp.
