While in Destin, Fl. for the day, we stopped for Dinner at Surf Hut Restaurant. As a frame of reference, we travel for our profession World wide and have experienced restaurants in USA and abroad. Having lived in Florida for 30 years we know fresh seafood. Our two main courses were steamed peel & eat shrimp which tasted mealey, definately not fresh. They had only cocktail sauce with high fructose corn syrup. We sent it back. The substitute was broiled fish with sides all overseasoned, strange taste. The second dinner was tenderloin on skewer medium. It was undercooked, sent back twice to finish cooking. The beef was not up to par. I would not recommend this restaurant. The only positive thing was our SERVER DONTAE. He was very kind, accommodating, excellant. We were given a 15% loyalty on each dinner. The price was high relative to subpar food. Wow. Great spot on the beach. Atmosphere was relaxing and laid back. Our waitress Bailey was so sweet and helpful. The food was awesome. I had the bbq ribs and chicken kabob combo both were tender and full of flavor. We also had the pulled pork and shrimp tacos and were delicious. Our appetizer was the cheese sticks. The portion was disappointing as you only get 5 small triangles for $14 which is pricey and not enough for family of 4. Overall def go back but only negative was price. We came for a date night. Both of us knowing what we wanted. Her having snow crab and me having oysters. The food was good; the service was good. We each had a drink. The mkt price on the snow crab was more than we expected in the end. I didn't love the pay situation they bring the iPad to you. Didn't automatically give you the receipt. I never truly seen what I was paying for. We were flabbergasted by the number. Give people the receipt in house automatically. Instead of just verbally amplifying the number. Definitely felt a weird pressure. The tip function on the iPad didn't say how much. It only said a percentage. Glad I did a custom number lower than all of their suggestions. During our 2025 family vacation, my wife and I stopped by Surf Hut. We wanted to have a quick appetizer with a few drinks. We ended up with a dozen oysters. They were fresh and very good. We also found out we really enjoy their Pipeline drinks. They are very good and tasty, they went down to fast and easy. Overall we were happy with the experience, atmosphere and the services but we do find that their food and drinks are on a little on the high side. read more

Great spot on the beach! Surf Hut is apparently a classic in my family, as we went here many years ago when I was younger and we came back for more this past summer. While we were waiting to be seated, my mom, sister, and I enjoyed the cornhole courts that were set up as the sun was setting. We had so much fun - a great way to pass the time! When we were seated after about 20 minutes, we got a spot on the patio overlooking the beach. For food, we split a dip and I got the tacos. Literally a walk from our condo on Miramar Beach. This restaurant was highly recommended and trust me, the food did not disappoint. I believe our server was overseated and became overwhelmed. Appetizers came out promptly and delicious everything after that was delayed unfortunately. Unfortunately I was just stopping in so I only had appetizers and drinks but everything was great. The restaurant itself is a cute beach restaurant but what really makes it is the beach view in the back! It gets kind of busy at night but they had a main food front and back patio so there's more than enough room. The bartenders were also great and made amazing drinks! read more

You come here for the ambience. It's right on the beach, beautiful views, great staff and really excellent food. I had mahi grilled over rice and vegetables, son had the best fried fish we've had in a while with fried and my wife loved her mahi sandwich. We walked on the beach while we waited for food, I had a great local beer, and Amos was the best server you could possibly ask for. Super kind, very fast and amazing recommendations. Ask for him. The only thing I could dong them on is price. This is really expensive (easily $35 to $50 per person for meal and drink), but their special were really great value! Mahi grilled with right, $19. Happy hour drinks on weekdays, super cheap. Come on a weekday in off season for an early dinner for one of the best food experiences in Destin. Come in peak season on a weekend and get ready for a massive bill, super busy bar and a long wait for a table. We'll be back but only with some thought about when. read more

Worst meal in Destin. Waitress (Lauren) rolled her eyes at us for ordering water and continued to have an attitude the remainder of the meal. Food was terrible, I had the stuffed shrimp. It was cooked to the point that the bacon was burnt crisp and the shrimp was tough. Mashed potatoes had a hard shell around them, obviously had been sitting awhile like that and the vegetables were tasteless. The entire meal cost $106. Don't waste your time.. read more

While the service and view are impeccable, the price point does not match the quality of food. Overpriced and terrible service. Was there last week, our waitress was super grumpy. We were a table of 9, ordered large meals and two rounds of drinks--an easy gratuity if she was nice or helpful. Food was ok, but her poor attitude had everyone on edge. She was annoyed about everything. Her food runner dropped our food, we were fine with it, somehow she took it out on us and got even meaner. I had a great experience at Surf Hut last night. Our waiter, Clark, was very welcoming and helpful. He recommended the shrimp and grits. It was absolutely delicious! I've been a grits girl all my life and these were cooked properly. They were extra creamy and the flavor of the gravy and shrimp was spicy. It was a little nippy outside, so this definitely warmed me up. They have an outdoor sandy area with a beautiful view of the beach for corn hole and additional sitting. This place is a 10/10 and a must-go. We got the calamari appetizer which was SO good. The marinara sauce served with it is some of the best I've had. We also got the fried mozzarella, which was good but wouldn't repeat because it wasn't anything too special. The fried grouper was so good. The air vent above our table dripped right over my food and water. Kids menu was very limited, we have 7 kids among us.
