What really blew my mind was the solitary, store bought, pre-packaged tartar sauce sitting on my plate. What seafood restaurant serves prepackaged tartar sauce?! Visited while on vacation. Ordered the chicken shish kabob. It comes with dark meat so he gave the option of white meat it was just a chicken breast instead of the kabob. This place is a 10/10 and a must-go. We got the calamari appetizer which was SO good. The marinara sauce served with it is some of the best I've had. We also got the fried mozzarella, which was good but wouldn't repeat because it wasn't anything too special. The fried grouper was so good. We loved our meal and experience here! We walked over a mile on the beach to get here and walked up. They told us the wait was around an hour and 20 minutes. Another customer told us it would be worth it. They had picnic tables and corn hole activities in the sand to hang out around while we were waiting. Plus you could get drinks at the bar. We had mint juleps and they were really good. Our wait ended up being under an hour. We had raw oysters on the half shell to start. My friend and I each had the shrimp and grits. My husband had the mahi mahi and my friend's husband had the fish tacos. We really loved everything and were a little surprised as we thought the food would be more touristy and not necessarily super good but it was. Highly recommend! Great experiment and great food. Always gotta visit the surf hut when we visit. Listen, if you haven't had their shrimp and grits you are seriously missing out. SOOO delish. Our waiter was much more personable than the last time and they came so close to getting 5 stars. If I could give a 1/2 star toward 5 I would. Only complaint this time was stale chips brought out with app but the waiter fixed it immediately which was surprising. I know it is busy season, but our party of 12 was seated at two separate tables after a 50 minute wait, when there were large empty tables open. The air vent above our table dripped right over my food and water. Kids menu was very limited, we have 7 kids among us. We tried Surf Hut after reading great reviews on some of the travel groups I was part of. This restaurant is located right on the beach with awesome views of the white sand and turquoise water. We are around 4pm, pro-tip: get here early to avoid any wait times. With zero wait we asked to eat on the patio and were seated right away. I ordered a Blue Crush Colada that was refreshing and highly recommended. For an entree I ordered the fried shrimp and instead of slaw ordered the cucumber and tomato salad. Our food came out pretty quickly. Everything was cooked and fried perfectly. If you're looking for good fried shrimp this place is definitely a go to in my book. I slept on this place for too many years. For some reason I didn't think it would be good, but we had time to kill before going to the airport, so we tried this at 11 am-right when they opened for lunch. The menu isn't overwhelming and there is something for everyone in your group. The craft cocktails were good. The cheese sticks and fried pickles were good appetizers. There were 6 in our party and one got a burger, one a skewer, two got fried shrimp, one stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon, one fried oysters, and I had the key lime pie for dessert. A great place to walk up from the water and grab a drink or lunch. The back had a great area with sand and corn hole boards and picnic tables. I highly recommend this place. I will say that I felt the price of the food and drinks was a little overpriced. Like others have said, they are at other places and got more food for the money and the bill was much less. If you notice the menu posted in my photos there are no prices; I didn't take one of one given at the table with prices. $4.29 for sweet tea is a little much. Take a look at the receipt I posted. We definitely enjoyed our lunch at the Surf Hut. The Tuna dip was good but did not have enough crackers with it for us. It came with lettuce and cucumber slices, but we found that the cucumbers took away from the taste of the dip so we ended up asking for more crackers. I came here because I was looking for crab and this was the closest restaurant with the best reviews. On first impression, you walk into the most beautiful scenery of the Oceanside inside the restaurant. They also have a boardwalk in the back if you want to get a closer view. The staff were super nice and sat us immediately. The menu had a good selection of fresh seafood and some non-seafood options for those who don't eat it. The cocktails on the menu sound a lot more impressive than they are. They sound very elaborate and exotic and then are brought out in small plastic cups for $14+. I was not impressed with them at all. I also ordered one beer and it came in a can with no glass. This restaurant counts on all its wow factor to come from the ocean and they skip the importance of the small things during the meal. For appetizers, I ordered calamari, mozzarella sticks, and crab dip. They all tasted okay, with the dip tasting the best of the three. I also ordered the snow crab, which states that it is seasoned with Cajun spices. The crab tasted very fresh but not a single Cajun spice was to be tasted. Getting through the crab legs started getting mute towards the end due to the lack of flavor. The butter that it came with helped. The crab comes with mashed potatoes and mixed grilled veggies which were good. If you are visiting this area, I recommend coming to this restaurant for the views, but don't expect to get the best seafood around. read more
