We have been coming here for "Taco Thursday" for over 10 years. The Thursday taco menu is discounted by half. Same amazing tacos, just half the cost! There is a TOD (Taco of the day) created each week by the chef, a server or even from a customer suggestion. We always try the TOD along with several standards. My favorites are the Banging Shrimp (hold the diced tomatoes), the Surf and Turf, Tuna Poke and Jerk Chicken. All on soft tortillas. My brother in law loves the Mother Clucker. Plan to arrive as early as you can. The service and food quality is best at between 4:45 and about 6 PM. When they get busy after around 6, it can take much longer for food to come out and preparation quality sometimes goes down. The servers are always looking to please, so if something isn't right, don't be afraid to tell someone. They will go out of their way to make it right. All the servers are very good. We ofter have "Geo" as our server. He can almost read minds. Sean is the manager and his wife works in the kitchen. They make a good team. The ambiance is "Coastal Florida". Relaxed. Very family friendly. We see lots of people with kids. Dogs are allowed in the outside covered patio in front. (Our Siberian Husky loves the Cheeseburger Tacos!) We had a family lunch and it was the first time any of us. We were greeted right away. We sat down at our table and was immediately waited on. Next the food. My daughter and I eat low carb. We got the chicken/shrimp fajitas with lettuce cups. Come to the table steaming hot. And I'd love to have the recipe for them because the spices that were used on them were so delish. Surf Shack is about mid way from us and my daughter and in laws so this is our new place. It is a fun place, lots of TVs for watching sports and a game room. I wanted to like this place because its close to home but it's mediocre at best. I have ordered twice via uber eats. I have tried all their tacos, sloppy presentation and their chicken and steak are very dry and odd tasting. You ever take a bite and instantly say "no" and not eat the rest. That was the chicken in the tacos and nachos I got. Honestly the best thing is their hot chips and queso and everything comes in their microwave containers. I even tried their grouper sandwich, large, but meh at best. (go to frenchy's in Clearwater if you want the best grouper sandwich imo). Sorry but I won't be back. read more

We just moved in down the street from Surf Shack. We saw there was all you can eat crab legs on Saturday. The sign says it starts at 4. My boyfriend called to make sure it was still going on, and found out that it's actually all day Saturday. We decided to try them out this past Saturday and we were not let down. The meal is actually for crab legs and 2 sides (all of which is all you can eat). We didn't eat much of our sides cause after all we really wanted the crab legs. I ordered from here on Uber eats, I got four jerk tacos & a queso. When the food arrived, I only received one of the 3 tacos and the 1 that I did receive looked measly, as you can see in the picture. I called the manager to see what they could do to fix it, she put the hostess on and would not talk to me to rectify the situation. Great happy hour deals. Food not very good , tacos are bland. And oh my goodness, I decided to give the Mac n cheese a try after a few mixed reviews. I made a mistake. Watery, chewy, over cooked bland Mac n cheese. It tasted like pasta water with some liquid cheese . I waited to see if it would get thicker as it cooled down. Nope. It literally dripped as I scooped it up with my spoon. Back to the tacos, the al pastor was one of the worst tacos I have had. The buffalo chicken egg rolls where about the only item I enjoyed. The fried ice cream tasted like it had been in the freezer for about 3 years. I am not saying I won't be back, but I will not be ordering tacos or Mac n cheese ever again. I'm not even sure why I'm giving it two stars. Maybe it's nostalgia. Surf shack used to be SO good. Whenever people would come and visit us they would always want to eat here. Now it's just consistently inconsistent, except for when it disappoints. 1st and you'll know this from reading other reviews- the bathrooms are worse than any dive bar you've ever been to. Then there's the food. The menu used to be limited to mostly tacos. As it's continued to expand and change the consistency in quality isn't there. The guacamole is sometimes good sometimes inedible. This last visit both the guacamole and the salsa were disgusting. The taco salad which used to come in a taco shell is now just shredded lettuce over their now flavorless tortilla chips. They used to season the chips but I guess now- or maybe just today who Knows - they don't. The service was even worse than the food. First apparently in their ever- increasing lack of oversight-management no longer cares what their staff wears- since one server was wearing red sweatpants and one was wearing yoga leggings. Second our waitress (the one in the sweatpants) would disappear after every appearance for at least 10 mins. We waited 20 mins for our beers and even longer for the check. Mothers restaurant is three spots down in the same plaza and was full on a Sunday afternoon- while surf shack had just 7 tables the entire time we were there. If management cares so little about their service, their food quality, and the cleanliness of their facilities they should just close the doors. read more

This has always been one of our favorite family restaurants. We have been eating here since it was Chico's. Our family favorites include the Filet Mignon tacos and their spicy fried shrimp tacos. We love their salsa and especially like the cilantro ranch dressing. Tonight it was all wrong...the filet meat on our tacos wasn't caramelized and grilled, we received 3 orders of soggy, wet stewed steak. The flour taco shells were mush. Suddenly the menu has more Pacific Rim type meals but it seems to be costing quality on the menu favs. Folks, you have lost your focus, go back to Cali taco favorites, more is less when it erodes your signature items to crock pot style serving. read more

The price of the all you can eat I felt was a great deal if you like crab legs as much as us. You can not get that price anywhere for as much as we ate. We went for a quick bite after my friend's wedding rehearsal and were a pretty big group. They were great at accommodating us right away, even when our group got even bigger. They have great happy hour and a pretty wide variety of food on the menu. I went for something on the light side and ordered the Chilled Ahi Tuna Noodle Salad. It was served with an amazing dressing, ginger and seaweed salad. This was definitely a winner in my book. It was light, but also filling. I did also order the surf and turf taco, but I wasn't a fan of the taco. It was a tad on the greasy side. It had shrimp, steak and is topped with onion ring shoestring strips. The all you can eat sides were ok but the fruit option only comes with oranges as they ran out of other fruits we were told. We decided to order a pitcher of Sangria and I confirmed with the server that it is sweet and it comes with fruits in it. However, when we got the sangria, it was neither sweet nor fruits in it. I have been going to Surf Shack sine they opened. Great food & atmosphere. I relocated to TN 4 years ago and always stop in to visit when the wife and I are in town visiting the kids. Taco Thursday has become a regular date afternoon for a good friend and I. It's pretty much the best menu out there. No, it's not $1.00 tacos, but they have a varied price, $2, $2.50 ,$3.00 + is just fine. Regularly we'll arrive and sit inside, where the ceiling is decorated with surfboards and other beach paraphernalia. Our table is greeted by enthusiastic wait staff, and fresh chips & salsa is brought out. My order is the pork belly tacos without onion and cilantro, it REALLY is so succulent and delicious. My date gets the surf and turf tacos, which while not my favorite is damn tasty. I have yet to be disappointed, and I don't see THAT happening any time soon. read more

The first indicator of this place being bad should have been that we waited at least 10 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us. I get being busy (which it really wasn't for a Friday - also should have been a clue) but the bartender who is maybe 3ft in front of the door/hostess table should have at least greeted us and said someone would be right with us. I hate to leave such a harsh review but I love food and usually I'm used to one thing or two things being on the menu but everything I ordered (see below) was no bueno: - the trio: guac was too onion-ing, the salsa was nothing special, the queso had the worst after taste. -the Mac and cheese. Holy shit. Absolutely no flavor. No taste!!! Tastes exactly like plain boiled pasta. -bang bang shrimp tacos: " spicy but not a flavorable spicy" - my little sister -cheeseburger taco: the sauce on it was terrible, the ground beef was nasty and gave cafeteria school lunch vibes -filet mignon: the sauce was so sour and overpowered the other ingredients -grooper: "good" -my dad (and my dad is a picky) -surf and turf taco: the best of all them and tbh not even that good.
