The food was excellent. I tried the triple combo with Fried Perch, Grilled Shrimp and chicken. The place was very clean. The bathrooms were clean and the employees were so welcoming and friendly. This is not fast food, it is made to order so have patience and it will be fresh and to your liking. The music was oldies from 50's and 60's. Just an overall pleasant experience. Wow! Just simply amazing! My son and I came in today to try something new and were blown away by the quality of food we got! Grilled Shrimp, 5 stars. Crab legs, 4.5 stars. Perch, 4 stars. Sides (red potatoes, dirty rice, corn on the cob), 5 stars! The Cajun spice they put on everything is just outstanding! Service was good as well. They are a "made to order" kind of place so if you order chicken (like we did) it'll take 20-ish minutes to make but the cornmeal crust on the chicken and fish was outstanding! Just not good. The creations are not very thoughtfully put together. The flavors are unbalanced. The ambiance is that of an Old Navy employee cafeteria. The seafood is mediocre and overpriced. The side dishes were OK, I seem to be lacking any kind of spicy Ness to them. Based on reviews on this platform and another, decided to try the place. Food was definitely fresh and sides had nice flavor. We ordered two dinners, catfish and perch. The fish was fresh but it was overpowered by the excessive cornmeal coating. In fact, both fish dishes tasted pretty much the same, because the coating was way too heavy. Give us that much more of a reason to return. What we each received were four huge, hot, fresh, perfectly seasoned, wonderfully breaded filets of perch and catfish. So flavorful! Their sides which include dirty rice, cheesy grits and coleslaw are delicious too. We ordered hush puppies which my spouse declared some of the best in the area. We finished our meals with with an order of doughboys which are hot, crunchy and pillowy soft inside. Think beignets. We had more than enough to take home for leftovers. Extremely pleasantly surprised by Surfs up. Very friendly folks and great food. For my lobster/shrimp sandwich ("Tha Bomb") I went with grilled instead of fried and no regrets there, flawless. Everything was made fresh after ordering. Surf sauce seems to be a cousin to tartar sauce with a hint of mustard (maybe?) and it paired well with both fries and hush puppies. The hush puppies are to die for. Probably the best I've had in the Chicagoland area. After one visit, there's nothing I can really fault. A definite if you are in the mood for shrimp! The dirty rice, hush puppies and fried green tomatoes are a nice change from most restaurant menus. The grilled shrimp was large and tasty. The batter for the fried chicken seems to be the same for most of their fried items. Only reason it wasn't a 5 star rating is due to this restaurant not having enough space for its patrons to eat. There are 3 tables and some bar height spaces but it could use more indoor space for when the weather is not suitable. There are some tables outside but it was too cold out today to utilize them. I think we will go back to try other menu items when it's warmer out! read more

Wow wow wow!! We were thoroughly impressed with everything we ordered. Despite ordering as takeout, the food was NOT soggy by the time we get home because of the way they packaged their takeout. Fish and chips came with 3 large pieces that were flaky and moist. My shrimp and grits had great flavor, though I preferred the fish and chips. The sides were also amazing. I was excited to try this place. Something different and close by. We ordered and the cashier said that it would take ~27 minutes - no problem. 50 minutes go by and everyone has gotten their food except for us. I'm frustrated and tell them to bag up our food to go. They apologize and said no problem. A different employee then comes out and says that our order was never processed. Wait, how was an order using an electronic POS system not processed? I guarantee that my credit card was charged though. I had them cancel the order and they voided the charge. I will never go back there. read more
