Came here for dinner and ordered the coconut soup with chicken as a starter. It was good. For my main course I ordered the spicy beef salad. If you like a lot of beef, this is for you. I Iiked it but I could have done with a little less beef and more salad. It was swimming in the sauce which was a little too much for me. Hubby got sushi since he is not a thai food person. He didn't particularly care for it. He said it was too fishy. I would like to come back again and try something different. We would also like to try the peanut butter pie next time. I love visiting Surin for their spicy coconut soup. It comes with either chicken, shrimp, or tofu, and all three are delicious. I also enjoy their sushi selection. The atmosphere and ambience are really nice and peaceful, which allows for easy conversation. I like to come here with my husband for lunch dates because the lunch menu is inexpensive and we normally are served quickly. The atmosphere of the restaurant is kind of quiet and it makes for a great place for my husband and I to enjoy each other while taking a break from work. My absolute favorite thing at Surin is the Spicy Coconut Soup. It's has tofu, scallions, mushrooms, and cilantro in it. I've made this my meal many times. If you don't like tofu, you can have it made with chicken or shrimp for an extra charge. At lunch, you're given a small Spicy Coconut Soup when you order a lunch entree. Generally, I get the Thai Noodle without the peanuts and bean sprouts. The soup is normally brought out really quickly after you order. I've never waited more than 10-15 minutes at lunch for my entree after it's ordered. This isn't the best Thai food I've ever eaten, but it's good and the service is great so they have a routine customer in me. read more

My daughter and I were in the mood for Pad Thai, but our usual Thai restaurants were closed (Sunday, Easter), so we came here instead. We ordered the potstickers and thai noodles (pad thai). Service was fine; we were checked on several times. No complaints. The thai noodles were ok, not the best I've eaten but it satisfied our craving for the time being. The potstickers could have been a little hotter in temperature. I've eaten here several times but have always had the thai noodles. Surin is my favorite restaurant most of the time. They are the only place that has snow crab salad. They have the best sushi around! It is so good and they have a lovely presentation of it. I normally get the beef and broccoli. I found out tonight that they changed the sauce to a garlic sauce. But the server asked them to give me lots of sauce. I love it. It was really yummy. I am glad I tried it with the new sauce. The sushi is by far my favorite though. I have never found anywhere else that does the snow crab salad and they really pile it on there! All my friends love their coconut shrimp soup. My only complaint is that I do think they could be quicker with their service especially getting sushi out to the table but maybe it's because they are super popular. My husband grew up in Birmingham eating at Surin! So every time we visit, we end up here! We used to dine in a lot but over the past few years we just order take out! We find it easier with the kids. Their service is always great though! Their lunch specials are great and also include soup! It's more bang for your buck and I highly recommend it. We always order our usuals which are the chicken noodle bowl, chicken fried rice, spicy coconut soup and the spicy beef salad. They are all very flavorful and delicious! Portions are also relatively big so you can eat them for two meals rather than one! They also have a sushi menu which also has very different and unique rolls. Just ate at Suriins on 280 on Saturday. Had not eaten there for a while. It was not good at all. Used to have the best sushi on 280...., not any more. This place is a go-to lunch favorite for me since it is right next to my office. It's a perfect place for a lunch meeting with folks. The food is good, the lunch menu is very reasonably priced, the service is quick, and there are a lot of tables available for seating. My go-to on the lunch menu is the Thai barbeque chicken. A half piece of chicken marinated and served with a sweet Thai glaze, fried rice, and appetizer of coconut soup. Can't beat it! Since my review two years ago, I've now ate here 4 more times in person and few to go. Brief background. I used to goto the Surin by UAB every other week for several years. One thing I do love about is the management. He always comes up to me and says hello. Super nice guy and appreciate his kind gesture. I was there last Saturday with a friend and ate at the bar for the first time. My friend is a regular and knew the staff. And I got to know couple of the bar staff through him. Experience was definitely more positive with the better interactions. Food... I got my chick warm salad. I hadn't ordered this since my days at the Surin west uab days (5+ years). Semi opened dumplings filled with chicken and shrimp. Pad Prik Shrimp - suggested by Nikese and it was a hit. The spicy sauce was delicious. The plump, huge, and perfectly cooked shrimp. The onion, peppers, and mushrooms were cooked just right. They were too soft or too raw. I thoroughly enjoyed this meal. The basmati rice was also good with it. My family and I love SURIN 280! We have for years gone and have ALWAYS loved the food and the service. The food is consistent, delicious and always a great deviation from all the other selections in the area. My body will tell me when it needs a SURIN fix. The interesting thing to me about the place and the food is the fact that I, my grown children and their children all have it as their favorite dining place. They obviously do something right. I want to credit the staff that have and continue to serve us. Sushil is the manager over a number of locations. His guidance is evident in their consistency of excellence! Other than Chef Surin who created the dishes it is Sushil which sees to their proper execution. We have had many servers over the years but one had stood out over the others, Erim. Of course we ask for her and as we are familiar with her schedule have the opportunity to enjoy her attention and efforts on our behalf. She is and has been alone at the top of her field. Not intending to slight any of the other servers all of which are excellent but from which we have not enjoyed their efforts nearly as much are Nadia, and of late, Denice. They too are now two favorites whom we have found to be extremely talented at their craft! Do yourself a favor and give SURIN 280 a try. Popped in for afterwork Friday dinner with friends. I have not been to the establishment in a few years because I wasn't exactly impressed before. We arrived 15 minutes after the restaurant opened. It was before the crowd arrived so we were quickly greeted and seated by the hostess. The waiter was very nice and friendly. There was no major lag time between ordering and food arrival. I ordered the chicken curry and we shared the soup (tom kha gai) pot (which was cute). I felt the soup was a bit too salty. The chicken curry was seasoned well and was what I was accustomed to. Overall, things were okay. I have no major complaints. I left feeling full. I can't say I'll choose to go back anytime soon; however, if someone invited me, I would be okay meeting them there. read more

What kind of duck is best? Surin Duck of course! In the world of Thai restaurants, Surin 280 is right up there for me. The duck is delicious especially. However, Surin of Thailand downtown is still the winner. My biggest complaint recently has been that the duck is a bit on the tough side and not cooked to be as tender as it used to be before. I'd highly recommend doing lunch here instead of dinner, you get a bit more for less, especially since coconut soup is only included with the lunch portion. read more

The Veggie Delight with Chicken: stir-fried chicken with zucchini, carrots, green beans, onions and cabbage cooked in a mild garlic/ginger sauce served with rice; the Spicy Beef Salad: tender strips of marinated beef tossed with lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, and onions in a spicy asian dressing, served with rice; and the Spicy Beef Noodle, a delicious combination of wide rice noodles with beef and tomatoes cooked in a rich, spicy, brown sauce are all favorites of mine. I've found the service to be excellent at Surin 280. Surin servers are never bothersome; always showing up when needed and never seeming to push extras on customers. this location has gone downhill. The curry chicken was sauce not a lot of vegetables and the curry was a very light watery consistency. Super crunch roll had the thinnest sliced salmon, like you could see through the salmon slice, the piece of fish was paper thin, no sauce or crunchy topping served. The coconut soup was served very messily and my bowl was half full. Sad to see a restaurant decline you once loved. Our server was nice and well trained. And on another note a table next to us took off their shoes, sent the same dish back 3x, drank their alcoholic beverage and put water in it- returned it. Argued with the server and manager. They also ate about 10 cups of cherries and pickles from the bar. I felt bad for the staff members dealing with that table. really added to the horrible experience.
