As a Dentical patient I was baffled by her request for porcelain crowns when this is a service not covered. The office aggressively pushed a dental plan too expensive for my budget and I got the distinct impression that they represented themselves as Dentical doctors to attract new patients but without the intent to provide Dentical coverage. It was a waste of time and a huge disappointment. I would not recommend this dentist if you are looking for Dentical coverage. read more

I regret that it has taken me this long to write a review for Dr. Susan Millar and her staff. I have seen her for two dental cleanings and a root canal and crown. The first you see a new dentist it is a little difficult to gauge whether you will return or not--just because it is just dental cleaning. Especially that they're not necessarily down the street from my house and I have gone to another dentist prior to her which was just walking distance. So why switch? It was because my BF has been going to her dental office for years, during the time when they still have Dr. Downs. So why not give her a shot? The BF highly recommended her after all. I will tell you that the first time I met her, she was definitely very down to earth and friendly. It's like having your big (nice) sister take care of you. Chatty and kept you calm. So I came back for the 6 month cleaning and came back for the root canal and the crown. That's how comfortable and confident she made me feel. As for the staff... simply commendable! Very accommodating and understanding. I had a little issue with my insurance because my prior dentist reported that the wrong tooth that she extracted. Long story short, this dental office patiently waited to have my case settled by my insurance. And it paid off. read more

Today was my first time here, and I can't explain how happy I am. I previously had a root canal done with my previous dentist about 8 months ago, my crown popped off and my dentist wouldn't get me in until November 3rd and was Extremely rude about it, so I would be left with a hole in my tooth. I found Susan through my insurance company, and called her this morning to see if I could get in, and thank goodness she squeezed me in today even though they were so busy! i needed to find a new dentist having recently moved back to Costa Mesa. I've seen A LOT dentists as I am one of those lucky ones who flosses daily, brushes after meals yet still has cavities. Knowing that services add up quickly and I have a 15 month old, I was reluctant to spend the money and go. But, my front tooth got chipped so I knew, I HAD to go. I was shocked when I discovered my Medi-Cal insurance offers Denti-Cal, complete dental insurance. That was a good day to say the least! I searched dentists in the area and I must admit, my expectations were not high. I thought, 'state funded dental insurance... There can't be a good dentist that accepts that!' I couldn't have been more wrong! After looking into ALL the dentists in a 10 mile radius of my house, I chose Dr. Millar. called and made my first appointment with ease and although the receptionist seemed a little zany, she was very nice and very upbeat. When I got to the office I was happy to see a clean, well kept practice! I sat down and waited for about ten minutes before I heard the dentist talking to a scared little girl (roughly 8 years old) about what needs to be done to fix her tooth. I could hear Dr. Millar telling this little girl everything will be ok and it is not going to hurt, etc. Dr. Millar was calm, patient, sensitive, and receptive to this little girl's worries. There were no more cries and the little girl actually came out smiling! It is dentists like Dr. Millar who make the experience of "going to the dentist," no big deal and not scary and THAT'S HUGE! Especially for children! I at least knew at this point where I am taking my daughter when it's time!!! I was showed back to the exam room by the hygienist, young girl (Clarissa is her name, I think), who was equally funny as she was nice. She made me feel very welcome and apologized for the wait. Once I sat down she made sure I was comfortable and told me what we will be doing today. She was relaxed and very personable which, helped ease my "dentist nerves!" Dr. Millar came in and apologized profusely for having me wait as she ran into a minor setback during the previous appointment. It was honestly no big deal, I was happy to wait 10 minutes while she reassured the little girl but Dr. Millar made it a point to recognize my wait and apologize. It was just nice for a doctor to take my time and my schedule into consideration! She explained what we were going to do during my first visit and asked me if I had any questions. Nope, no questions here! The hygienist came back in and began my X-rays. During the time it takes for the X-rays to take a picture and load onto the computer, Clarissa was very upbeat, happy, and didn't make that down time loud with awkward silence! A little small talk but not too much! She was relaxed and confident which put me at ease! When Dr. Millar came in we reviewed my X-rays and she told me the plan of action, a clear cut plan. Discussed my options, how long it will take/number of visits, and actually suggested I get my cleaning done after my filling that way I'll still be a little numb. Genius! Why haven't I ever thought of that?! Or better, why hasn't any other dentist recommended that?! We scheduled my appointments in the room and she was patient while dealing with our conflicting schedules (I hate when you go back and forth with a receptionist and they act like it's such an inconvenience on them to look for another day or time if the first option they offer you doesn't work)! I couldn't be more happy with the care and services I have gotten from Dr. Millar and the entire staff. I have seen Dr. Millar three times and I am so happy with everything she has done! My front tooth, PERFECT! She even asked if I wanted the one next to it filed a little since it wasn't even. Little things like that make all the difference in the world! I also had 3/5 fillings done and they were painless and I wasn't numb all day thankfully! One more visit until I my initial problems are fixed and I can honestly say, I will be back every 6 months for my routine cleanings! read more

Over Christmas I had major pain and Dr. Millar called me back, got me in the next day and connected me to an oral surgeon who was able to do my root canal the next day. I have absolutely no idea what that crazy woman who gave 1 Star was talking about! Obviously she's got a screw loose! Unfortunately I have spent much time in the dental chair over the years because my teeth are prone to problems. And so I have had been through my fair share of Dentists. Without a shred of doubt, Dr Millar and her Entire Staff are beyond professional and kind. They go above AND beyond for the comfort and financial ease of their many appreciative patients. PLEASE READ THIS IF YOU FEAR DENTISTS. I suffered with an infected molar for 15 years. Festering infection in my mouth that kept me from eating foods I like. So painful I would beg any cash walk-in office for antibiotics but never would go back. I was given quotes for up to $4,600 to remove and replace the tooth. When I said I couldn't afford it I was shamed and embarrassed by "professionals" This past weekend the tooth finally broke in half. I was terrified right away. The horrible memories came flooding back. Painful extractions horrible sounds and smells and the shame of having "bad teeth" I was given the name of Dr. Millar by an office that didn't take my state coverage. I just hoped she could help me. The office was clean and peaceful. The girls were so sweet and reassuring and never made me scared or embarrassed. Yes I cried a little when they said we should take it out right now. I wasn't ready. 3 days later I was ready. I was calm and even happy to walk into her office again. That was 8:30 this morning. Now I'm home, eating ice cream, playing with my daughter. No pain no infection and best of all no fear. I have a dentist that I'm happy to see again. Thank you Dr. Millar. This is so huge for me. read more

If I could give negative stars I would. The experience I had here is like nothing I can even fully explain into words. They said they filled multiple fillings and upon seeing a new Dentist 3 months later, ever single one of those fillings had holes and we not fixed. Every Single One!!!! And one became a root canal!!! Then they attempted a root canal on tooth number 18 , which every Endodontist I have spoken to, thinks is crazy. Anyway I spent 3 hours in pain with them doing this only to be told they couldn't. Went to an Endodontist and found out they broke three pieces of equipment in my tooth!!!! I had such sever pain and swelling that my whole side of my face was swollen . My Endodontist said he had never seen anything so bad. I have literally been traumatized from this and spent so much money fixing these problems. I would avoid this place at all costs . I am finally at a place where I am calling the ADA!! read more

Three of my children see Dr. Millar, I love the friendliness of the office staff and the cozy feeling of comfort when you enter the office. My children have had procedures ranging from "baby root canals", to fillings to sealants and cleanings. Although my daughter was a bit challenging this last time, they were patient and very accommodating. They found a solution to going around her fear of needles. I can't thank you enough for your patience and understanding. Dealing with children can always be tough and you guys are definitely up for the task. It's hard to get appointments for three children simultaneously, however they have been able to accommodate without long wait times or cancellations. This was one of the worst experiences I've had. I had spoken to Dr. Millar over the phone, having never met her in person, she prescribed antibiotics and pain killers for me, after reading my file. I'd seen Dr. Lin a few times and felt comfortable with her. When I came in for my appt. I was taken to a room for my procedure that Dr. Lin was going to perform. I was told they needed an xray, yet another. I let the assistant know they took x-rays last time I was there. X-rays are difficult to get on me and I was told at my last visit "we got it". After checking with "someone" I was told another xray was needed. I said okay. Again, i was told "we got it". Next thing, Dr. Millar, whom I'd never met, came rushing in and states "we need to take an xray". I said, I was told they got it. Dr. Millar asked the assistant to come in and asked if she told me she got the xray. She replied, I did, but... At this point Dr. Millar should have apologized to me for the misunderstanding, as the assistant just confirmed what I said. Instead, now with three of the staff members standing in the doorway, it became very uncomfortable. Needless to say, I left the office and would never return or recommend her services. Dr. Drew is the best dentist I've been to in the 5 years I've been back in Newport Beach. I heard horror stories about getting dentures and was very hesitant, but knew I needed complete upper (after having the remaining upper teeth removed), and partial lower. Dr. Drew and Shannon, and Anna were very patient and informative about my options, and what the whole procedure would be. The only hang up was Medi-Cal, but Sabrina was avid about following up with them, and we finally got the ok. The procedure went beautifully, and my dentures were ready the day the teeth came out. This was last week. I've been back twice for adjustments, and they are fitting and feeling great now. I will go back in a month for adjustment (if necessary), and periodically if need to. I am super impressed with Dr. Drew and the whole staff; including Brooke who was always friendly and helpful in getting me in quickly. I highly recommend this dental office! read more

I am a new dentacal patient who was looking for an English Speaking Dental Office. I literally searched almost 400 dentists listed n the "provider" guide. I found Dr. Millar's office. I had not had my teeth cleaned in something like 5 years and was hoping that Dr. Millar's would be a good office. So far, I have not been disappointed. I had x-rays , a cleaning and 2 filling done. Dr. Linh I think is how she spells her name is very nice and does her job well. Dr. Millar's whole staff is very nice and professional. Dr. Millar herself is also very nice. Contrary to one of the other reviews the office asked me if I wanted silver or porcelain fillings. Melanie, the office manager I think told me the difference between porcelain and silver was $40 each filling. I went with silver and had no cost to me. The office did not push me into anything I could not afford. I recommend Dr. Millar's office read more

I was very impressed by this dental office. The staff was warm and friendly, even offering paper and pencils for my two toddlers to color with while they waited for my husband and me to get our teeth cleaned. The office manager took the time to explain exactly what my dental plan covered. The hygienist was gentle (a big change from my last dental office) and very careful to check that I wasn't in pain. Dr. Millar is an awesome dentist: sweet, conscientious, and always ready to answer questions or address concerns. The office space is a bit on the small side (tiniest bathroom I've ever seen!), but they are obviously in the midst of renovating some of it, but they seem to be trying to do well with what they have to work with. The waiting room is small, but they have nice little touches, like a water dispenser and a Keurig coffee machine available to patients who are waiting. I appreciated that they took the time to have my 3 year old 'ride' in the dental chair and talked her through how they were cleaning my teeth to get her acclimated to being at the dentist... a 'happy visit' they called it. I have not seen Dr. Downs, but I can definitely recommend Dr. Millar. read more
