I've been disappointed with the items I have taken to this place. First was a pair of G Star jeans. I asked if she could do original hem (you need a certain type of machine to properly do it). She said yes. When I got them back I was so disappointed to see the way she did it. (She obviously doesn't have the "machine") Basically I could never roll these jeans up without seeing all the extra fabric underneath. I've had many jeans altered in the past where the extra material was cut and you couldn't even tell they had been hemmed. My bad I should have clarified this with her. Now I have a pair of $200 jeans I won't wear. Second item was a bathing suit that needed the straps shortening. When I got it back there were a million loose threads where she had reattached the straps. It looked so messy I was surprised someone would let it out her shop looking that way. I complained and she cut them closer, but it still left me thinking that I won't be back to this place. I'm no perfectionist but I appreciate attention to detail when I am paying for a service. read more

Fast service! They did my alterations and I my took them two days for two dress pants.

I sometimes go here and have them sew, alter and/or patch small areas and they do a pretty good job. One day I brought my nice black leather jacket and all I wanted them was to fix the inside lining, since it was torn up and holes by pockets needed to be fixed. The owner wasn't there at that time but the other lady who helped me said she'll have the owner look at it and call me to tell me the cost to replace it. The next day I decided to call since I did not hear from them, and the lady told me that the owner will not fix this because it will cost too much to replace the inside lining. I took it somewhere else to a tailor who was inclined to do the job at a decent price. If you just have small stuff to sew, alter or patch they can do the job. But if you have anything more than that (such as replacing/fixing the inside of a jacket) this is not the place for it, and you would better off finding a professional tailor to do that for you. read more

Wish I could give zero stars. I took a pair of pants in that are $160. I asked for them to be taken up and taken in on the seam and they were too long and did not fit me snug enough. I tried to tell the woman that I needed them taken further than where she pinned them and she no bc of the material and said it would look fine. So today I come in to pick them up and sure enough. They don't fit me and I try to explain this to her and now she says "I do it they be ugly" I'm sorry what? They are my pants, if I'm asking you to just take them in just do it, I'm paying for it. She refused and still charged me the full price regardless of how unhappy I was with the result of her work. No apology, nothing. I don't recommend this place AT ALL. Susan's alterations is professional and very timely. I'm 4'11 and need ALL of my pants, most dresses and even my workout leggings hemmed. I tested out a pair of every day skinny jeans, wide leg jeans, flowy boho Anthropology pants, and a pair of workout leggings. They all turned out well, but the biggest difference was the turn around time. Note: The pants with more material flowy/wide leg were around $11/$12, BUT I could literally drop them off around noon and have them altered by the NEXT DAY! (Near impossible at various other establishments I've tried and at that price $6-$12.) Also- I have't requested any specific alterations yet as far as tapering my skinny jeans prior to hemming or altering any of my business wear, but I highly recommend this place if you're in the area, need a straight forward hemmed item, with a quick turn around time. read more

Susan is great. This is my absolute go to for pant alterations. Price is warranted because small businesses should charge a little premium. Service was efficient and pricing was very reasonable ($7 each). I went in mid afternoon and tried on the pants for measurements. In and out type of experience, which is a major plus. I normally get my jeans hemmed here and Susan/Susan's team do a fine job with them. So, I trusted them to have a few old, but favorite, clothes repaired. These included a dress with two holes to be patched, a skirt with holes in the lining, and one shirt to be taken in. Long story short: great spot for jeans, but anything more be wary. View the pictures: multiple loose strings, holes that were marked for repair left undone, and stitching/patches that are HIGHLY noticeable. When shown to a friend they asked if I did it myself-- and didn't believe when I said I paid 43$ for the repairs. Make sure you double check the work before you leave (I nabbed them on a quick errand and didn't check as I haven't had a problem using them before) and be wary of having delicates fixed. read more

I needed 3 gowns hemmed in a pinch and found Susan's on Google. I dropped them off towards the end of day on a Thursday and was hoping to get just one of them back by the following Monday. I called Monday morning to check in and she had finished ALL of them. The alterations were great. Maybe this is a normal turn around time, but I was amazed. This place is one of the best in Torrance! I went in with a bridesmaid's dress that needed alterations onto the sleeves, and she finished it in 5 days (she is extremely busy right now so 5 days is honestly a great turnaround time). My total was only $35 as well, which is significantly cheaper than the other places in Torrance. The two ladies are extremely friendly and helpful. They did a wonderful job! Wanted one shirt pressed, they told me $2 on the phone, then when i came in and asked for it today they said $4.

My regular tailor was out of the country so I decided to try this place for my daughter's Baptism dress. They were $5/item higher which didn't seem like a big deal but they did a terrible job. She had a simple white gown from Nordstrom that had to be shortened six inches - didn't seem like a tough job. I picked it up a few days before the Baptism to see literally the worst hem I've ever seen. It was uneven, strings hanging and missing places of stitch. It looked like they changed the style of stitching multiple times. I was so upset at how terrible it looked but had no time to get it fixed since it was an out of town ceremony. I will be uploading pictures. Our daughter's Godmother even asked in church why there was string hanging off in a few places. It's such a shame they would provide that type of service and charge someone. read more

I've been a regular here for years now but seems like owner/staff changed. Costs on every simple alteration went up, their $5.99 hemming sign is also misleading and needs to come off. Parking: ample parking in the lot in front. Shares same parking lot with seafood port and a lot of other smaller restaurants. Came here to dry clean two cashmere sweaters. She charged me $8 for both which is a very reasonable price. Wrote down a little yellow slip for me and let me pick it up the next day. Very fast and friendly. Like other reviews said, English is not her first language (it's ok it's not mine either:) ) but she is very friendly and does a good job. I'm glad to find a friendly neighborhood dry cleaning/tailor and I'll be back because I have some jeans I need to hem. read more

Not sure if it's spelled Susan's Alterations or Suzanne's Alterations as Google suggests. Irrespective, she is one of the most economical out there. Even though as other's have said English isn't perfect, if you show her what you want done she'll do it. Almost like speaking the language of math or love. I brought in a laundry basket's worth of close to be altered. Most everything fit perfectly, and she even went as far to re-tailor the remaining garments without charge. This is a tribute to her hard work as she stays late to get things done and prioritizes certain garments if you need them done by a certain date. Only negative (which I couldn't take a star away from because cost + finished product was so good) was that 1 item wasn't ready on time. Susan did something strange and unforgivable to my skirt. Have taken two items, on two separate occasions. First, a pencil skirt that needed taking in due to weight loss. Susan did a nice job, and quickly. Waistband could have been neater, but I didn't hold that against her. At that time, I'd intended to give a 4-star review, but... Second time I took in another pencil skirt. Very simple, didn't even have a waistband---at least not till Susan decided to give it one. Cannot imagine what made her decide to redesign my skirt. All it needed was to be taken in so it was down about one size (of course, she did the measuring while I had the skirt on). When I picked up the skirt, I saw where she had created a waistband, including inserting a broad piece of elastic. Now the skirt puckers instead of lying perfectly smooth as it had before. And, the highly visible waistband stitching was noticeably crooked. I used to make my own skirts. Even just for myself, I'd have never let such sloppy stitching pass. I'd have ripped it out and done over. If---and it's a big IF---Susan had a problem with simply resizing the side seams, she should have called. She should not have taken liberty to create a waistband, especially not a tacky one. My formerly beautiful skirt that used to garner compliments now looks like a piece of junk created by someone unfamiliar with even basic sewing methods. Now I don't feel I can trust Susan with my things. read more

Thank you so much for your same day alteration service! We flew into town from Hilo, HI for my dad's Celebration of Life. He just passed away last Saturday and the service is this Monday. Anyway, suffice it to say, Aloha attire really wasn't going to cut it for my dad's service and there's a limited selection for formal wear in Hilo, so we agreed my husband would shop locally once he arrived. We found his suit today. I called Susan's Alterations as we were leaving the store and they assured me they could get the pants hemmed either by today or tomorrow (Sunday). We got to the store around 130p-2p ish, they made the necessary adjustments and asked us to come back by 6pm that night. $10 per pant for the expedited service. So just $20 for the 2 we brought in. I needed some jeans hemmed ASAP (hey, I'm short, so I always need to get pants hemmed!). So I needed to find a place that was open late enough for me to make it after work, but convenient enough for me to pick-up on a weekend. Cue Yelp search, and voila! This place met all of my criteria - open late enough on weekdays, open Saturdays, literally within walking distance from my apartment, and 5-star reviews. I walked in at about 6:30 on a Friday night, explaining that I needed some jeans hemmed before having to go out of town, and that if possible, I wanted to pick-up the following day. I apologized for my last minute rush, began to explain my travel plans, but the owner quickly told me that it was no problem, and assured it would be ready for me first thing in the morning! Sure enough, my jeans were ready and waiting for me when I arrived on Saturday morning. Terrific service, even at the last minute. Came in last Saturday night to get a few pair of pants hemmed and one pair straight legged. Susan seemed pretty busy, so I was totally fine with picking up the clothes on Wednesday afternoon. I went to grab food, and 40 minutes later, I received a call from Susan telling me that my pants (including the ones that I needed to have straight legged) were ready for pickup. I took a long two layered lace dress that needed shortening on Monday. I ask her if I could pick it up on Wednesday, and she said "In the morning". Sure enough. It was done, perfectly. Wednesday morning. Even if some people say it's hard to find, it is not. Just get into the parking lot coming in from the east, towards Hawthorne. It will be on your right. There's a sign of all the businesses, two on each line, maybe four down. I think it says Susan, or something like that. (I'll pay more attention when I go next time and update this. There's a nice Mediterranean market that seems to make lovely sandwiches, for those that want to pick up lunch at the same time. :-) When I went in the place looks a bit shabby... especially the fitting room area. Her English is not good at all, but she does understand what you need done, knows how to charge and gives you a ticket with the price to pick it up. No surprises. And with the way she works and what she charges, you can forget that the place is not so fancy looking. I am very impressed. She charged $30 to hem my double layered fancy lace party dress. She has a sign that she hems Jeans for $5.99 each. I think it's a good price. The best thing is that she does a very good job, at reasonable price, and has it ready when you need it, even if you need it fast. By the way, her name is Susan, and the shop is Susan alterations. NOT Suzanne, like it says on Google. She does all kind of alterations, you just have to bring it there and she will tell you how much she'll charge and then you decide. Even just a little tuck here and there can make such a huge difference in how a dress fits, it's so worth the time to have it done. I had a dress that needed to be taken in at the shoulders, waist, sleeves, and hem, for a total of about $60. Turnaround was four days. The dress was pressed and ready to wear when I picked it up, and she had trimmed off all the loose threads from the embellishments, too. They're in a tiny little shop next to a nail salon, in a lot that basically seems like the back-side of a larger building, so if you don't see the place, you're probably just in the wrong parking lot. read more

The alterations are good but you have to inspect the items and try the stuff on before leaving the place. I had them alter a bridesmaid dress and I tried it on before leaving the store to notice that the layering was longer in the underlying layer than the top layer, which shouldn't have been the case. They fixed it in a few hours but then they left all of the threads uncut at the bottom. But the stitching itself looked good. When I went to retry on the dress, another man came in to try on and hem something, they asked that I let him go first and I was like "no, he can wait just as I did" with the previous two men that were in front of me. She got perturbed at me but whatever. I think that they can use better customer service or drop the prices. If I am ever in a bind, I might come back but I'm still going to keep my eye out for a better alterations place. read more

Fantastic service! I was very pleased with the workmanship this shop had. I had had a 3 piece suit altered at a previous tailor and they had done a very poor job. I needed a place to fix the stitching on the pants and suit coat. I also needed this alteration - as well as the dry cleaning of two shirts - done in just a day or two's time, as I had a formal event on the weekend. Susan got it done timely, for a fantastic price. Around $20 for suit coat and suit pant alteration, as well as two dress shirts dry cleaned, all with a rush job. Fantastic value! Caveat: Know exactly what you want. As others have said, her English isn't the best, but if you can't point out what you need, she'll get it done. read more
