This place is worth it's 4 1/2 stars. I gave it a 5 because I have no complaints. I went to another place prior to coming here and so glad I left the other place. This place charged me less for a faster service and I was more than content with their alteration work. Service was also espectacular. Very nice people. They could have charged me more but didn't. I am very pleased by their response and service towards their customers. Language doesn't matter at all to communicate with Ms Susan ,she is wonderful and very cooperative and has lot of patience to listen to all your requirements. I had been there to get my gown altered she and her son listened with patience and guaranteed me a good service . I will never come here again. The people who work there have no sense of what a person wants. It could be attributed to my lack of Korean. I can only say hello and thank you, so I had to use hand signals and theatrics to get my point across. Unfortunately, it was not clearly understood by tailor and so, after the fourth visit of my item not being tailored properly, I paid $70 dollars for an awful job. I speak Spanish,Italian, and French so I took to it to Huntington Park where the seamstress fixed my item beautifully and charged me $30. I must say language barriers are a pain! read more

Being a short person, all of the jeans on the market are too long. Thus, having my jeans hemmed is mandatory.. Ahahaha, truly a first world problem. I found Susan's Alteration and found she only charges $6. I get all of my jeans hemmed by her. Never had a problem on time or the work. Susan and her assistant are also very friendly! I can't speak for the more intricate work, but for jeans needing to be hemmed, take them to Susan's. read more

It pains me to write a negative review, especially for a small operation like Susan's alteration. I came here based on the yelp reviews, I was a bridesmaid and needed a long heavily beaded/sequined gown hemmed a few inches within a week and a half. The seamstress quoted me $60, and she said that it cost that much because it was going to be a lot of work since the beading went all the way down to an inch or two above the bottom of the dress. This seemed like a reasonable price, and she said she could do it by our agreed upon day (Thursday evening). I went Thursday evening, and she said it wasn't ready, that it would be ready Friday by noon. This made me a little anxious, not only because I needed it by Friday evening, but also because if it was such a labor intensive job, would she be able to get it done in such a short amount of time? The answer was NO. I picked it up Friday at noon, when I went home and tried it on, strewns of beading and sequins quickly unraveled. Looking closely at the hem, it was obvious that all she had done was cut the dress at the bottom and hemmed all around it with no reinforcement to the beading. This meant that the knots to the strands of beads had all been cut, and now the beading went all the way to the bottom with no knots at the end. I called and brought it back and she said to pick it up in a couple hours. I wasn't optimistic at that point, but my friend's wedding was the next day so I had no choice. It was the same thing the second time around, but it was too late for me to do anything about it. When I wore the dress for the wedding the next day, I left a path of threads, sequins, beads wherever I went. The other bridesmaids paid the same price elsewhere and had no issues as their seamstresses hemmed to the appropriate length and properly undid each strand of beading to leave space between the bottom of the dress and the end of the beads so they could properly knot and reinforce the beading. So long story short, I want to write this review to let others know, maybe this place is fine for simple hems/alterations but if you have anything that is complicated or needs some workmanship, you should go elsewhere. The person I dealt with also spoke very little to no English so it was very hard communicating with her (for example, when I first dropped off my gown I specifically asked her to please make sure the beading was reinforced so it wouldn't come undone...clearly this message was lost). I will attach pictures of the hem of my dress (after it had all come undone within an hour of putting it on). read more

So great! I came in on Monday to get a bridesmaid dress altered. I had been putting it off because I only recently moved here and didn't know where to go. With the wedding coming up fast I found Susan's, and to my surprise she said she would have the dress done in 2 days. The two women I met here were so nice, and very helpful. They really care about their customers and helping them get what they need. I had the dress taken in and hemmed up. It cost $38 which is a great price. I would recommend this place for any alterations, and definitely nicer attire. No need to pay a ton to have a specialty place do it, they can do it just as good or better here. Just a note about finding the place. If you turn into the parking lot right by the gas station from Hawthorne, you'll have to drive back behind the building. Susan's is located to the right, really close to Torrance blvd. It is clearly marked with a sign, so when you're in the right place, you'll know. It may take a little searching to find the place, but it will be well worth your time. read more

I try not to leave yelp reviews but the service here is terrible. She didnt have my alterations ready by the promised date, which I dismissed as an oversight. I decided to give her another chance (she is close to work) and when I went to pick up two items that I had altered, she only handed me one. When I reminded her of the other item she seemed confused. She finally admitted that I did drop off another item (based on the ticket) but then tried to shift the blame by saying that there was only one item inside the bag she had which is why it was lost. She then told me to come back and she would look for the other item. Well, she never found it, but I gave her 2 stars regardless because at least she refunded me the cost of item and the alteration charge. Her work is decent but not better than any other store for the amount she charges and definitely not worth the hassel. read more

I made the mistake of taking a suit to a tailor in South RB. They did a great job but to hem my slacks and shorten the sleeves cost $70. Since then I have been taking my clothes to the cleaners since I have not required major alterations. I needed another suit altered so I went on yelp and found Susan's with no mixed reviews and decided to give Susan's a try especially when the reviewer provided an excellent description of the location and I knew exactly where it was! I took all the clothes I've been hanging onto -- 2 jeans, 1 lined suit skirt, 1 slacks and a suit with fully lined slacks on a Thursday. I picked them up the following Tuesday... the alteration charge for everything was less than what I paid for that one suit in South RB. I went home and tried everything on. Perfect. read more

I found Susan on Yelp and decided to try her out to see if I can replace the lining on a jacket and skirt. It didn't appear that English was her first language but she understood what I was after and she explained to me that it would probably run about $70 to replace a jacket lining (I used to sew so I understood why) and she can repair it for $15. I didn't think it could be repaired but I wanted to try it. When I got it back I thought it was a brand new lining. I was very pleased with her work and told her that I'll come back again for other alteration jobs. read more

Good work but communication was an issue. I had 5 inches cut off my jeans and asked for the excess material be returned. The lady who took my jeans marked the ticket but the seamstress through the fabric away. My jeans are Italian denim and if I ever need a left loop or anything else replaced the fabric was necessary and should have been retuned. Had 6-7 pairs of jeans and dress pants hemmed here over the past few years and they always do a good job.

I had 3 pairs of pants hemmed here and am satisfied with the result. Regular slacks (not jeans) were I believe $1 more (so $7 for men's pants). They were ready as promised 2 days later. Service I thought was very good. She was very patient particularly with a new customer before me who had like 20 questions. To be honest, the hemm was slightly crooked and not folded straight underneath, but is almost unnoticeable unless you're looking for something wrong. Other places quoted $10-$15/pair. I would not bring expensive clothes here, but would come again for cheap/regular clothes. read more

This is the only place I go to for all my tailoring needs. My work pants usually need to be hemmed and I have even gotten a pair of jeans hemmed as well. I came here for my bridesmaid dress because it had decent reviews on yelp. They don't speak much English here but enough to communicate with you which is fine. Upon trying my dress on for them I felt they really rushed the process and very quickly pinned it and it made me nervous. They didn't ask very much questions about how I wanted it exactly and that was ok because I wasn't super particular about it. If you want a detailed dress alteration this isn't the place. After getting it back, the straps in the back were now loose because they brought the waste in. So that needed to be fixed but they seemed irritated and tried to charge me. Then when I brought it home the dress was still too long with my shoes and I tried on the correct heal height in the original try on for them, so I had to take it back. They tried to argue with me and charge me but then decided to Do it got free. Overall not the best experience but my dress ended up ok and the job got done. Next time I will go somewhere else read more

Susan's Alterations is the only place I use to tailor clothes for my family. She can alter any type of clothing, from my husband's suit (she did a perfect job last minute for a family funeral), to knit hoodies, levis, pants, jackets, and a Sak's fifth avenue dress I found at a thrift shop 3 sizes too large for me. Her prices are extremely reasonable. At prom time I ran into a group of teens getting their dresses altered and all the moms raved about the price and results. She now has face masks for adults and children that are in every color and pattern imaginable at the best price I have found anywhere. Her shop is at the northeast corner of Torrance Blvd. and Hawthorne Blvd. behind the gas station in a strip mall. There is a small road between the gas station and a Chinese Seafood Restaurant you drive through and turn right to get to the shop a few stores south of the Torrance Mini-Mart and Deli.
