I set an appointment and I asked her if she only did dresses and she said no she did anything and I showed up to the appointment to get some overalls altered and she said she was too good to do it and I had to walk a mile back to Goodfellas pizza and have a good pizza because she was unprofessional although I have no idea if she's a good alterer. read more

What a delightful find. I had a long formal dress I wanted shortened. The dress had all sorts of embellishments (complications) - lining, sequins, rosettes. Not only did Susan shorten the dress, she helped me decide on length, she saw the dress was too loose and took the dress in so the dress did not flare out when she shortened the dress and fit be better, she did 2 fittings to be sure the dress was perfect. She was very friendly, skilled and easy to work with. As to expense (around $85)...I think it was good value. I had debated whether I would give the dress away knowing I would never have the occasion to wear it long and it could be ruined trying (and failing) to shorten it. Now I have a beautiful cocktail dress to wear. I had a problem posting photos, but I am very happy with the result. I highly recommend Susan. read more

I came here today to get some stuff altered and it was not possible. Why? Because this "business" is out of someone's home. I spent time looking and looking for this place and after much confusion I decided to call. A woman answered the phone and said Hello, that's it. At first I thought I had the wrong number and so I asked if this was Susan's Alterations and the woman on the phone said Yes. I said that I was outside the house and needed some alterations and guess what she said? You need an appointment, owner needs to know when people are coming. Yeah, that makes sense if your trying to do "business" from your house. My first question to anyone is why wasn't this mentioned on any of the other reviews? This information would've really been helpful to know and if I would've known this was a residence I would've not even bothered. I like doing business in an actual establishment not inside a strangers home. In my personal opinion if this place is in fact a legitimate business there should be a sign outside somewhere and information listed somewhere to indicate that an appointment is necessary. The whole feel of this experience leads me to the conclusion that this place is not a legitimate business. The person who supposedly does alterations here does so whenever they feel like it and not when customers need it. Sorry lady, but you must have your marbles mixed up. If you are in fact in business then you cater to your customers not the other way around, therefore the fact is that you are not a real business. In a nutshell I drove 20 minutes to get here, wasted about 35, was turned away. So now ya'll are in the know if you want to come to Susan's Alterations you'll be entering or not entering for that matter into someone's home. It will not be a professional establishment and you'll have to call first to make an appointment. This sort of thing is not for me, but ya'll are welcome to give this place a whirl. Susan is so nice and funny! She definitely gave me a cool and calm atmosphere to make me comfortable entering her home (she doesn't have a shop). I dropped off the clothes I needed tailored on a Monday and was able to pick them up on Friday. She was so quick! I only needed simple alterations, though, so it may take longer for more complicated ones. This was the first time I had my clothes tailored, so I have no one to compare her prices to. I do believe her prices are on the cheaper end since taking a few inches off a waistline was $10 and trimming off some of the thighs of a pair of joggers and increasing the midline costed $15. I'll definitely be coming back for more tailoring in the future :) read more

I put a post on the Tioga garage sale site looking for someone to hem my pants and Susan's was recommend by others. WOW! So I desperately called Susan up to fix a dress I was going to wear THAT night. Although I couldn't clearly describe what I needed to be done and the fact that I mentioned I needed to wear it in less than 4 hours, she STILL kindly offered to take a look and see what she could do. When I got there I showed her my dress and she fixed it, hem and all, in less than 20 mins! Not to mention, my dress looks GREAT. Friendly, helpful, thorough, expert, fast and fair - just some of the adjectives to describe Susan! I had a dress made on-line to my measurements and unfortunately I had enjoyed the holiday cookies a bit more than expected by the time the dress arrived on a Thursday ~ it didn't fit right. I needed to find someone to let the dress out as the event was Sunday in the am. I called up Susan on Friday morning, explained my situation and was told to come over that night. I brought my dress and showed Susan where it wasn't fitting. She looked it over and decided that removing the pockets and letting out the material 1/2 inch on each side (OK so I had more cookies that I'd care to admit!) would be the fix. Susan told me that she could have the dress ready by 2pm the next day Saturday. Imagine my surprise to receive a phone call at 11:15 am on Saturday asking me if I could come try it on as it was ready! I went over and the dress fit PERFECTLY! She offered to press it after I had tried it on. How is that for service? Brilliant! Susan is an expert in her craft. I highly recommend her services to anyone. Why is 0 stars not an option? Sadly I used the recommendation of a friend and went to Susan for alterations. Please note: repeatedly saying "it was a lot of work" and "i'm very reasonable" do not in fact make either of those statements true. Each maid took her dress somewhere else, I pulled the short straw. Not only did I have the least amount of work done but I also paid the most. To add insult to injury her advice for it not fitting was for me to "stuff my bra" I shit you not. Being plus size I am used to dresses not fitting straight from the store. News flash this is why you get it altered. Being told that these dresses never fit the body perfectly is in my opinion a cop out. You are a seamstress, your ONE job is to rework the dress so that it does fit. When I asked why it was so much I was informed that she had it pressed. Umm thanks, but the last time I checked I just asked you to alter it. Pulling up the straps leads to lowering the arm holes...common sense? Apparently not. The dress felt like that scene in Christmas Story, sorry lady but I would kinda like the ability to move my arms. Ugh to make things worse she admitted that she hates lowering the arms. Maybe you should go into another line of business or only accept the jobs that you want to do and save us all the time and money. You live in BFE of Pacifica, unless you live in the BOV there's nothing convenient about it. read more
