Sushi 7 has been on my radar, and I am glad to add it near the top of my overall list. I went for the all you can eat option and opted for some nigiri and handrolls and traditional rolls. This place is great and a whole lot better than Alex and Abi make it out to be. My friend Alex always says "this place is trash" but it really isn't true at all. Since coming under new ownership Sushi 7 has been amazing. It used to be my least favorite sushi restaurant in Reno but now it is consistently great every time we go (which is often). All of the sushi chefs are great at what they do and quick. The waitresses are great too if you're sitting at a table. Right now they're doing takeout only, with a 20% discount, and I was so excited because everywhere else either was closed or didn't have menu items we liked. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU HAVE A FAMILY! The service was HORRIBLE. We ordered all you can eat for the adults and ordered Bento boxes for the kids. One of the children ate one of the gyoza, and the waitress must have been watching like a hawk then came over and very rudely informed us that they have "strict all you can eat policies and there is to be no sharing, even 1 piece." She then told us to not be alarmed when we see that she added extra charges onto our bill. She was the worse waitress ever. Very condescending. We invited friends to eat there and we were completely embarrassed and felt awful that the service was so bad and that the whole time we were being watched like hawks to make sure weren't "breaking AYCE policies." Ive been to this place 3 times. The first time about a year and a half ago and it was fantastic no complaints. The past 2 times, the last being in May more specifically, was not good. I'm giving three stars for their awesome service and clean restaurant. I don't know if their sushi was bad the last couple times Ive gone or if they are ordering from somewhere else under the new ownership, but I think I got food poisoning from the last visit. I only ate one roll and had their salmon and mussels and felt very uneasy. I'm not sure if I would give them another chance as there are many other awesome places in Reno. read more

After my first visit with the new owners, I wrote a quick review, but I didn't really have a lot to review from that first visit to be fair. I came back with friends a week later and proceeded to have the best nigiri I've ever experienced. I'm not normally a huge nigiri person in general, but that night, I ate more than I probably ate all year. The salmon and albacore were divine. I liked my rolls that I did have, they were made very nicely and not sloppy. The chefs that night for our group were Jose and a girl who's name I didn't get, two of three that stayed with the new owners during the transfer according to Jose . I asked for my regular signature creation, which I do have a few ingredients... the chefs were joking about giving me one rice, as in, one rice kernel. I did hear one chef say that it sounded good what I was having them create though. (tuna, ebi, lemon, cilantro, krab stick with no sauce). The Godzilla that night, wasn't quite as crispy as I prefer, but still good for a fried roll. I was ready to run home and bump up to 5 stars. My laziness prevented a quick turn around on a review though, which is okay, because I have yet another visit to count under my belt for a good amount of observations now. I came back about a week later, different sushi chef, not sure on the name, the rolls and nigiri were not presented as well. I ordered another A-pink, which was just not as nicely made as before, and barely torched with the tobiko on about two pieces and the rest on the plate. I noticed too, the nigiri slices may be pre-sliced, which kind of sucks. Maybe just for this chef? It was something I remember with the old owners of sushi 7, but hadn't noticed since. My signature creation, which the chef insisted I name (We came up with Bewitched... I didn't want my name, but there is a correlation no?), forgot to put cilantro on twice. Note, the mochi ice cream comes with whipped cream and strawberry and chocolate syrup. I prefer to not have that, so remember to request it without. This is definitely still a top ranking for my personal AYCE choices in Reno, it is in my neighborhood, I just will be more picky about who is my chef. I liked Jose and the girls' creations and personalities a lot, so I will keep an eye out for them in the future. Definitely a place for me to hit up when I want nigiri. read more

Stopped in with a group of Yelpers following Paul's beer UYE. We all had the all you can eat and shared gyozas and a wide variety of rolls and nigiri. I am a huge fan of gyoza's and theirs were delicous! I know we were there for sushi but I could've eaten the gyoza's all night long. Super yummy! They were slightly crispy on the outside and stuffed full of flavorful filling. As for the sushi we had a large variety of rolls and everything was presented beautifully. The ingredients were fresh and the rice to filling ratio was great. My favorites of the night were the Compa and the A-Pink. Service and food were great and I would definitely return to get my sushi and gyoza fix. read more

Since I don't do raw fish, I was glad to find that Sushi 7 offers vegetable tempura, including 2 pieces of shrimp, for $7.50 on the appetizer menu. It was good and plentiful enough to satisfy a small to average hunger. The tempura batter was just the right thickness, and wasn't the least bit greasy. The dish includes a good variety of veggies totalling about 11 pieces. The sauce is lightly sweet, and absorbs the tempura without making it soggy. My one complaint is shrimp that is, well, shrimpy in size. It's formed it into a cigar-shape, rolled in bread crumbs and deep fried. I pulled most of the breading off and was left with just a small bite of shrimp. My friend's rice-heavy sushi came overlayed with a thin strip of fish. She knew this in advance and doesn't mind. When I last ate Sushi some years ago, the proportion of fish to rice was much higher. However, since the world's fish-stock is dangerously low, less fish is probably better, even if not a better value. Blue Fin tuna is at such low levels that the species can't possiby recover from the overfishing, for many years, if ever. Yellow Fin Tuna, the second most desirable variety, is decreasing measurably in population each annum,and will soon join Blue Fin Tuna at the point of no return. At 8PM in the evening we practically had the place to ourselves and the servers were very eager to please. I have driven by Sushi 7 dozens of times. Finally, I decided it was time to take a break from my usual sushi spots (Hiroba & Tha Joint) to try something new. It was a Sunday afternoon around 4ish and the place was nearly empty... score! This means I won't have to deal with bumping elbows at the sushi bar. We were instantly greeted upon arrival and seated at the bar. Our chef immediately greeted us and asked if we wanted any appetizers. We started off with an order of mussels and yakitan. I knew as soon as I took my first bite into the yakitan that I was going to get along well with Sushi 7. Their mussels came out without the shell, which was actually a pleasant surprise, sometimes those stubborn mussels stick to the shell and it's a fuss trying to eat 'em. Onto the most important part of AYCE - the sushi rolls were good... although none really stood out to me. I'll usually try and eat at least 5-6 rolls but I was over it by the 3rd roll. One minor complaint: my boyfriend and I had been watching a football game that was on tv and a couple came to sit at the bar next to us and they had asked the waitress to change it to a different game. Without hesitation, the channel was flipped. It would've made the situation better if the waitress asked if we were watching the game or not. After all, we were sitting right in front of that specific television. No big deal though :) read more

Now that I've been back for my second visit it's time to put my thoughts to keyboard regarding Sushi 7. The location is cozy, tucked into a small shopping center pleasantly just beyond the hectic hubbub of Walmart down the street. Inside, the decor is tasteful and clean with the obligatory flatscreen TVs showing games from one sport or another. The menu is diverse, with long roll variation showing a creative flair missing in some sushi joints who have 20 flavors of California roll. As for quality, wow. They knocked it out of the park today. The sake was sublime, hamachi buttery and tuna (of various types) simply wonderful. Additionally, the nigiri proportions, a small ball of rice with a wide slice of sashimi draped over, touching the plate on either end, were perfect. To cap this review off, the service was solid. After this trip, Sushi 7 is making a serious play for the go-to position in my sushi joint lineup. Don't be fooled by their average Yelp rating. The new owners are doing it right. read more

A must try sushi place. Extremely excellent costumer service. Waitresses are very attentive, rarely allow clutter on your table (dishes, trash, refill). The sushi chefs cater to your food preferences and allergies very well. Our favorite sushi chef is Sara she is very polite and always makes her rolls very photogenic and pleasurable to the eye as well as the taste buds. She also likes to create new rolls for us to try with our favorite presences. The atmosphere is very calm and relaxed but not so calm and relaxed that your the only person in the restaurant. The food is always fresh and the fish practically melts in your mouth. This has become our new favorite spot we come close to 3 times a week at least. They also offer a punch card for thier regular guest. Give them a try you won't be disappointed! read more

Came here with a friend for lunch. At the bar, ordering sushi from the chef took 10 minutes in between orders. Spent a lot of time waiting. Another disappointing thing was that the sushi rice was not cooked properly. It was not sticky. The rice would fall apart when you tried to pick it up. Also they tried to feed us more rice then fish which pissed me off because this is suppose to be a sushi bar not a rice bar. Reno is city full of sushi restaurants and there is competition. **UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT*** I typically don't write reviews while still in the restaurant. But after eating my food I have a few updates that I want to add to my old review. So as my third experience- the food quality is much much better, the atmosphere has improved aesthetically, and overall I am very happy I came here to try this place again. I ordered a "sparks" roll which was gone in seconds! The rainbow roll was much much better, and he was pleased with the spicy tuna roll. They have only been open under new management for three days. Overall, quality from the last management has been far surpassed. I absolutely cannot wait to come here again. I'll be back, Sushi 7!!!! I can eat a fair amount of sushi and after ordering the crystal shrimp roll, I turned to my friend and was like what the F are we doing here? I will admit to a bias against this restaurant because it replaced Thai Royal House, which was awesome and I miss it. I did have hopes that Sushi 7 would be good enough to make me forget about the tasty Thai food I used to get, but it was not to be. The sushi is not horrible, but not good either. Everything has far too much rice...some rolls you can't even taste the fish. The selection of long rolls seem aimed at those who prefer things bland...over half of them are smothered in avocado or crab meat as if to disguise any fish taste you might experience, and the hand rolls are basically rice cones with a dab of fish topping. Husband says that the nigiri was fresh-tasting, so that is one bonus. The service was the best thing here...the chefs were fast and attentive, and the servers were quick to refill drinks and clear empty plates. I did not care for the atmosphere, the music (an unfortunate mix of top 40) was too loud, and TVs around the bar were playing sports as well, giving a sense that you are in a sports bar instead of a sushi bar. If you go, I would recommend the Hana or the Sweet and Hot rolls and the Ocean Star hand roll...those were the best things I had, although nothing I ate surpassed Sushi Pier for the same price. read more

Eh. It's ok sushi. I have had much better. I have had much worse. The location is the reason why I continue to return, it is right down the street from my house. They have a great little salad bar area where you can help yourself to cucumber salad and edamame, that I do love We usually get the all you can eat-which is A great deal. The sushi itself was delicious, but the execution was sloppy. They have a self serve salad bar with canned peaches, house salad, edamame and miso soup. The restaurant itself is very spacious. Can definitely accommodate large parties/large crowd. The service was alright. Nothing out of the ordinary or spectacular worth reporting. I like raw sushi so the sushi that was on my rolls tasted fresh and like it was supposed to. Overall, I wasn't overly satisfied nor dissatisfied with my dining experience. My Husband and I use to come here often. It was a nice break from the chain sushi places in town. It was obvious as soon as you walk in that it was under new ownership. The rolls changed to compete with the local chains and now they are less desirable. The service was awkward, like they were all in some kind of trial review period. Forced smiles and the atmosphere was just uncomfortable. I loved how even though the old owners would work along with their staff, there was never a feeling of unease. Not only have the staff lost their spark, but the sushi has morphed into generic gas station rolls :( there is nothing to separate them from all the other chains in town. Not that great. Had all you can eat and left disappointed. Seems most rolls were just little variations of the same roll. Had 1 cooked, 2 raw, 1 handroll, 1 fried and mussels. Weird how you read reviews and everyone will rave about spicy crab rolls with spicy mayo with sprinkles on top but fail to mention the lack of any real different style rolls. People might want to travel outside of reno and try sushi somewhere else near a major airport before giving this place 5 stars. Most of the people sitting around us ordered the same thing over and over again. Hmmm... The fried roll was just greasy crab. The scallop hand roll was the highlight. Mussels were gross and overcooked/chalky. I guess I just expect a little more from a sushi bar. Service was distracted as i had to ask for everything. Overall the fish was ok. Note: my opinion is based off overtime. Not off of one visit. Upon entering you are given the option for bar or table. Optioned for bar. The menus have been updated and the options have changed slightly for the better. First request was order of mussels. The delivery of the mussels was a surprise to me as I have been there multiple times before. Upon taste, mussels have a spicy and sweet flavor to them due to changes of the sauce. The chefs are a delight and are admirable to you being their guest. Words do not define the change but it is good to see a change for the better and that the staff continuously work to assure your visit is a delightful one. read more

I've heard all the random complaints about this place, but I went anyway because eat too damn much sushi and sometimes I want a change of scenery. I don't know if it was because my expectations weren't very high, but I really really enjoyed this place. The all you can eat is VERY reasonably priced, especially if you make it in before 3:00. The staff is also very friendly, and our drinks were kept full the entire time we were there (which is impressive because I drink a ton of water). What really sold me on Sushi 7 was the salmon. It is, without question, the best salmon I've had in the state of Nevada. Every all you can eat meal for me starts with six orders of salmon. It's like a friggin orgasm in my mouth. I think one of the other reasons I like this place so much more than everyone else is because I eat mostly Nigiri when I go out. I rarely order more than one roll in a single visit, and everytime I'm there I just get the Hana roll, which is amazing. All in all, this is one of my favorite sushi joints. The only other ones I'll eat at are Sushi Pier and Sushi Moto. The few rolls I've had there have been very tasty (the Lucky Seven is awesome, as is the Holy Moly). The salmon is to die for, and the halibut and quail egg shooters are both top notch. read more

Sushi 7 had a coupon in restaurant.com. Looked it up on yelp and it had 3 1/2 stars so we decided to give it a try....thank goodness we had a coupon because this place was not that good. We've definitely had better!! The fish did not taste fresh and they were very small. We got the titanic...and it looks like this maki sunk to the bottom of the ocean and wilted away..yes, it was very small.
