This is my favorite neighborhood sushi restaurant. They are fully staffed and service was great. My husband ordered the Bento box panko shrimp-comes with a ton of food including miso soup, edamame, tempura veggies, gyoza, seaweed salad, rice and 10 pieces of shrimp. I wish I could give 0 stars. This place sucks. My family and I just ate there and their fish is so old and shitty that I vomitted 4 or 5 times as soon as I got home. I had some quail egg with tobiko, some salmon roe, basic nigiri stuff- octopus, scallops, tuna, salmon, 1 long roll, etc. The scallops especially had a really fishy taste to them which might've been the culprit. We eat sushi a lot at good places like the Atlantis and Kei and I eat a lot of the same kind of stuff and this never happens. I don't know how these people are preparing their fish but they're not doing it right. The place was dead on a Saturday afternoon too. The chefs don't speak a word of English either which probably doesn't help matters (as far as reading dates and checking for freshness, etc.) I don't know what to say, $90 down the drain for garbage sushi. I could tell everything had been recently thawed out too, weak flavors, no good hand rolls, and just garbage. We won't ever come back, that is for sure. I hope I don't have to puke more tonight. This is probably the first time I've ever had this happen and I've been eating ayce sushi in Reno on a regular basis (at least every month) since I moved to Reno in 2012. Mango roll is awesome as is the dragon roll. Matter of fact, all will probably please you in terms of freshness and taste. I highly recommend it. I love that it is on the Northwest part of town, since it seems most good sushi places are midtown going towards south end. I WANTED to like their food. I really did. I ordered the 24-piece sashimi through a delivery app. It came quickly, and the sashimi was served on a bed of lettuce and cucumbers, with a garnish of lemon slices. The delivery also came with 2 cups of ginger, 2 cups of wasabi, and a generous stack of soy sauce bags. The platter consisted of salmon, tuna, and yellowtail (correct me if I'm wrong). The slices were quite large and thick, and could easily feed up to 3 people. Now I'm no sushi chef, but I can tell when I've encountered a nice bite of high-quality sashimi... and this wasn't it. Obviously, with $30 for 24 pieces of sashimi, you can't expect Nobu level of quality, but I think it's fair to have some standards. The colors of the fish were quite dull, and the texture was kind of off. Some of the pieces were unexpectedly tough, and the pickled ginger just didn't have that sweet, acidic flavor that I hoped to cleanse my palette with. Overall, wouldn't recommend their sashimi unless you have a desperate craving for it. Who knows, maybe their rolls are a lot better. Maybe I've been spoiled from LA sushi. New owner brought us back. It was just ok the last time we were in. Heard recently there was a new owner and several changes to menu and quality. Nothing about the bar and dinning has changed- it was all nice and clean. Our chef was very good and attentive. Server kept the waters and sodas full, and empties picked up. AYCE at night is $24. Check in with Yelp took 10%off. Right off I like the mussels- four to an order and served in a spoon and not the shell. They were large in size too. A few orders of nigiri came out - I was surprised. Nice sized pieces of ahi, shrimp and octopus with tiny balls of rice. Yeah !! Less fill up on rice and a chance to try more fish. We tried about 6 long rolls, a couple of hand rolls, several servings of nigiri and some mochi. Impressed with the amount of fish and vegetables versus rice in them all. Nothing had an off flavor or smelled. With everything we ate I couldn't believe we didn't roll out of there. We felt like we wanted to try more but were full and comfortable. So we checked out Sushi 7 last night. It was our first time. Since my wife doesn't eat sushi she ordered the Beef Bulgogi Bento Box. It wasn't bad but it wasn't great either, kind of like chopped up beef sautéed in onions with not really any flavor sitting in a pool of oil. I enjoyed the Appetizers. The Mussels had good flavor and the Agadashi Tofu as a little sweet but I'm a huge fan and appreciate that they had it on the menu. The only weird thing was nothing was hot, just kind of luke warm. It was strange cause I was expecting the tofu to be piping hot and it wasn't. The Gyoza and Egg Rolls were the same. Just warmed thru. Unfortunately the sushi fell flat. The rolls are almost exactly like most of the other places in town, not really any imagination put into them. It's the same combo you find at 99% of the sushi places here in Reno. "Chrystal Shrimp" and topped with Hot Sauce. I don't know what the deal is with sushi places here in Reno with habanero and sirachi, it's gotta be on everything. I don't mind Sirachi but it gets old after a while. That's why I like Hinoki sushi because they actually have some very interesting rolls. They do a Seared Beef, Asparagus, Spinach and Tuna roll that's great and there Nigiri list is twice as long as some places here in town. I'm a big Nigiri fan so I ordered a decent amount and it looked good until I tried it. An excessive amount of rice and the fish (especially the Tuna and Salmon) had a off taste that stopped me in my tracks, the fish was mealy and the rice had a lack of flavor. I tried to power thru it cause I did order a good amount but at the end I just couldn't do it. I'm a fan of Nigiri without wasabi and ginger so when I have to put a lot on my fish to change the flavor that's not good. It was disappointing at the end that we had to pay full price for a roll because we didn't finish all of it on top of the AYCE price. I wasn't going to argue with the waiter (he stated he was told to charge me) because it did say at the bottom of the menu that any leftover rice will be charged. I've unfortunately filled up so much at places that I didn't finish a full roll before but this is the first place I've ever been to that actually charged me $10. So I can say that we did try Sushi 7 and maybe in the future we might try them again but unfortunately they were definitely a miss for us. read more

Went here again on 3/5/16 and it just gets better every time! We were honored to be served by the owner, Chef Kwon, this time. Started off with appetizers & he made us a special Edamame, prepared with Garlic & Chile...delicious! We had the usual assortment of Nigiri & again, Chef Kwon hit us with another special creation, Seared Albacore...WOW! We tried an assortment of long rolls that were sooooo good...everything here is so fresh & tasty. Halfway through the meal, Kwon handed us over to his Sushi Chef, Juan, who had served us on our initial visit. Juan made some amazing creations, as well, including a couple of his own creations, called the "Volcano" & the "Pinkachu" (sp?)...make sure you ask for them when you visit...outstanding! Had seen this place off of McCarran in Northwest Reno for sometime. I enjoyed the Sushi and thought the restaurant was clean and the decor was reasonable. I sat at the Sushi bar itself as I happened to be alone that night. The hand rolls were good, as were the Individual sushi. It just didn't stand out from all the other Sushi places in town. My dining partner suggested we go there, and in explaining the direction she told me it was in the shopping Center where you can also find The Squeeze In. Off Las Brisas and McCarran near 7th Street. We came at about 1:00pm after the lunch rush, and there were still a few tables eating sushi. We were immediately greeted and set at the sushi bar. We had the all-you-can-eat lunch and our sushi chef was helping us right away. I started with a delicious and flavorful bowl of miso soup. My friend ordered enough hamachi for both of us. After that, we mostly had nigiri sushi and hand roll sushi. My favorite is the spicy hand roll scallop. They serve 1 dessert per meal. I ordered two large miso soups. Despite being packaged in Styrofoam, the soup was Luke warm. After having to reheat it, I found it to be quite bland. I'm pretty sure that whoever made the soup, had no experience with Japanese cooking. The soup lacked miso flavor and the tiny pieces of tofu were hard to come by. We threw the soup away, as it was really awful. I also have reservations about eating anything that's not kept to the proper temperature. read more

Went here for lunch on someone's recommendation. They don't have a lunch combo special (like teriyaki, salad, and 2 pieces of nigiri, or whatever) but they do have all AYCE sushi. $20 for lunch. It's almost cheaper to get that than to get two rolls and an app separately, so I did it. I was hoping for more of a cheap lunch combo thing for less food and less money since I wasn't starving, but oh well. The sushi was fine -- not off the charts, but not weird and smelly. It was nice to see the place busy! Although we liked the rolls we received, I was very unhappy with our server. After giving us our first order, she was then nowhere to be found for a good fifteen minutes. All of us in the corner, which were her tables, kept looking around hoping to get someone to help us. One of the things that also stood out to me was she drop off some nigiri at the table to the left of us and then I saw them kind of touch and investigate it with their chopsticks before they moved it away. Then for the fifteen minutes we didn't see her, the nigiri was left untouched. When she finally made an appearance, the table let her know that they had not ordered that. She then took that order and asked this other table if they ordered it, they said yes, and she gives it to them! Ummmmmm disgusting!! Other people's chopsticks had already touched it and don't forget its nigiri and had been sitting at the other table for 15 minutes! I've never seen this server before, and I definitely don't want her ever again. Also, we never received half the stuff we ordered. We kept asking for it, and also kept getting other people's orders. It was just a mess. This was the first time I've actually eaten at their tables, I'm normally at the bar and I can see them make it and it's given to me right away. Of course I'll give them another chance, as I've been going here at least twice a month. But never again will I want that server. Yes, mistakes happen and places can be busy.
