    Saw Becky M's review and decided to try Sushi7 after chatting with her on it. Sushi7 is only doing take out during COVID which is understandable as it has a very small indoor dining area. Sushi7 is located on Cambie and there is plenty of metered parking and also free 2 hr parking a few blocks away. Checked out the menu on line and we ordered the Roll Combo (California roll, tuna and salmon roll & dynamite roll) Veggie Combo A (yam roll, kappa roll, avocado roll) and the Tuna and Salmon Combo (tuna roll, salmon roll, 2 tuna and 2 salmon nigiri). At $40 it was good value and tasty sushi and plenty of it. I liked that the rolls did not have an excessive amount of rice in them. It was a positive sushi experience and happy to recommend Sushi7 if looking for a sushi establishment in the Cambie area.

    One line review: Would give this 3.5 if that were an option. We ordered two of the dinner combo special. My wife had vegetable tempura, yam roll, and beef roll. I had salmon nigiri, spicy tuna roll, and vegetable tempura. Both meals came with salad and soup. Everything was tasty and well-executed. The big selling points here are the variety (you choose three items from a long list of options) and portion (I had enough left over to eat for lunch the next day). We also took a flier on the bacon wrapped scallop skewers. The scallops were minuscule; this was like eating rolls of bacon. Wouldn't order this again. Pricing was reasonable, and with the portions, this is good value. Service was friendly and competent. Parking was free in the neighborhood. In this COVID season, they were not serving in the dining room. We tried to sit at a bench outside the restaurant, but it was quite cool in the evening, and we ended up taking it home. Bottom line: This will probably join our 'regular' line up of places we frequent. It was good.

    Perfectly decent sushi like so many other sushi joints in Vancouver, with plenty of vegetarian/vegan options. We did an online order on Sunday around noon when they opened. We ordered five rolls and couple pieces of Nigiri between the two of us. The order was ready for pick-up 20 minutes later. We got: -Avocado mango roll (8 pcs; $6.50). Totally acceptable, with fresh avocado and mango. Nothing special, but it works. 3/5 -Avocado roll (8 pcs; $5.95). Ditto the regular avocado roll. Nothing wrong with it. 3/5 -Veggie roll (5 pcs) X 2 ($6.50 each). This was a pretty lame vegetable roll, dominated by avocado, with a bit of radish, carrot, and lettuce. One of the weaker vegetable rolls in town. 2/5 -Goma ae roll (8 pcs; $5.95). Plenty of wilted spinach, drizzled in a nice sesame sauce. This was good and my favourite of the rolls. 3.5/5 -Inari roll x 2 ($1.95 each). Bog-standard Inari Nigiri. Fine. 3/5 All in all, a perfectly fine sushi place that meets expectations but isn't anything special.

    Best Japanese food we've had in a while! Pleasantly surprised how delicious everything was. The tempura was especially tasty, as was the Agadeshi Tofu and Potato Croquettes. That should help if you like crispy food like we do!

    This has been my go to take-out sushi place for a little while now. They have an "all day special" that's roughly $20 and it includes a ton of food. Can't speak for the service, as I've actually never attended this restaurant in person, but I can say that they were very accommodating of my peanut allergy. When I called to ask about my allergy, they said that they don't use peanuts in the kitchen which is great for me to hear. Hopefully one day I will visit this little Sushi joint in person as well :)

    It was another sushi meal today. A busy work day, so sushi at a reasonable price is a good find. I ordered the tasty combo for 12.95. It comes with half a prawn roll, 1/2 a California roll, half tuna and half salmon, plus a volcano roll which was my favorite. The volcano roll is deep fried and is tasty. Of course, ordering through a food service delivery, such as Uber Eats, I had to pay a service fee as well as a delivery fee. Still worth it if you're too busy to get out and pick it up yourself. I would just recommend that they have fresher wasabi. It was a bit too firm, so I used some leftover fresh wasabi I had at home. Good place to get a good amount of sushi at a reasonable price.

    I walked in with medium to low expectations. There were a few food delivery guys waiting so you know it's not too bad. Service is friendly vibe is casual. We got items from the all day specials. In general it's a hit or miss. Hit The salmon sashimi and chopped scallop roll are both surprisingly quite fresh and yummy. Love the salmon toro nigiri, fatty in big chunks. Avocado tempura is great, avocado used is just riped Miss Agedashi tofu is below average, tasteless. I don't like the tuna toro, tastes just like regular tuna, I expected more for $2.5/piece toro. Tofu/beef teriyaki on rice, lot of rice, good for hungry tummies. I suggest steer clear from these unless youj enjoy food drenched with teriyaki sauce. Okay Mushroom tempura uses white button mushroom it's interesting and quite good. Veggie tempura is pretty good as well. Salmon tempura roll, generous portion, taste is lacking. Miso is too salty for me but like that it has a lot of kelp in it.

    3.5 stars One of our coworkers highly recommended this sushi restaurant to us, so we gave it a try this afternoon. We came here for lunch and the restaurant was not too busy. This Japanese restaurant has been running on Cambie Street for a while as far as I know, so the interior design looks a bit older. The owner did put an effort on decorating the restaurant in a Japanese style. We looked at the menu and ordered their lunch special - choose any 2 items at $8.95 with miso soup and salad. It was a pretty good deal. I chose chicken karaage and chopped scallop roll (8 pieces) and my coworker chose vegetable tempura and spicy salmon roll (8 pieces). Both of us shared the dishes, so we could try different flavours of the food. The miso soup and salad were okay. Among the above 4 choices, chicken karaage was the best. The meat was tendered and juicy inside and crispy outside. The vegetable tempura was a bit over cooked (or deep fried). The edge of some of the vegetables turned brownish; and I personally felt that the oil was not fresh to fry the vegetable tempura. Both the spicy salmon roll and chopped scallop roll tasted average. Not "wow"or not "meh". There is free street parking right or meter parking on Cambie Street. The customer service was okay. We were looking at the chefs in the kitchen or servers/owners of the restaurant. It seems that they are Chinese or another ethnicity, but they are not Japanese for sure. If you are looking for a good deal on Japanese food or sushi or if your 'eating' standard is not high, this restaurant is a good option. However, if you are looking for better quality of food, you may go to Sushi Aria on the same street.

    I feel very misled by all of these positive reviews because my boyfriend and I came to the conclusion that this is, without a doubt, the worst sushi we have ever had. (That's including pre-made, days-old grocery store sushi, and the sketchy stuff that rolls around on conveyor belts.) We ordered five different sushi rolls and gyoza. Only one sushi roll - the Red Dragon - was decent enough to finish eating, but that's not saying much. All of the sushi was warm, mushy, and falling apart before it was even touched. The rice was overcooked and the fish was old and tasteless. My boyfriend suspects the tuna - which was tinged with grey - was actually chum. And I don't know how in the world you screw up gyoza (which is typically made beforehand and just fried before serving), but even those sad little dumplings were lukewarm, squishy, and bland. While I do wish I could give 0 stars because I have never experienced so much sushi regret in my life, I suppose the single lonely star is for the quick and efficient service, and good miso soup.

    Customer service was great. Greeted at the door & was told to sit anywhere we wanted. I ordered the pick 3 items for $11.95 lunch special: chopped scallop roll, negitoro roll & chicken karaage. With the special, there was miso soup & green (wilty) salad. The food came out quickly, almost too quickly. The sushi rice was too warm & therefore it made the toro & scallop warm. Expecting chicken wings & drumettes that's usual for chicken karaage, we got chunks of meat instead, which came with an aioli sauce. Don't know if I'll be back.

I was expecting something more seafood-forward, so it ended up feeling more like a deconstructed fried rice than the premium dish I had envisioned. Same with the unagi bowl, couple small pieces of unagi cut up... The appetizers were actually the highlight of the meal and ended up being more memorable than my main course. I kept waiting for a dish to really wow me, but nothing stood out enough to make me crave a return visit. Maybe I just ordered the wrong items, because I know this place has plenty of fans. Overall, I'm glad I tried it, but based on this visit, I don't see myself making a special trip back.

But in other parts of the world the meal is what's important and so is a quick turn around. Guu with Garlic reminded me a lot of the Izakaya restaurants I found under the train lines of Tokyo in many ways, including the amount of time it felt right to stay. The food came out quick, the servers took orders quicker, and the alcohol came out chilled and as nice contrast to the hot food. Looking around and you see the hand written menu on blackboard surfaces on the walls and this feeling of authenticity. The heat of the flames from the kitchen can be felt and seen if you sit at the bar. And the flavors just hit all the right notes. Starting with appetizers, a section izakayas shine at, the first dish we got was their scallop and mayo pizza. With a crispy crunch on the bottom and crust, this reminds you of the flavors of a baked volcano roll or scallop roll you can find in almost any North American sushi restaurant. Just like that dish, it's important to eat it while it's still hot so it doesn't get gross and 느끼 에. Then came the yellowtail tuna "tempura" pieces. Thick pieces of yellowtail tuna flash fried for just the right crisp on the outside with slight pink of the fish inside. It is meaty without being oily or fatty. Great bite. The beef tongue after was interesting. From the color of the sauce it accompanies it you would think it would be heavy in flavor but it is actually light and citrusy. A good cut into the richer tones of the beef tongue. The yaki udon was one of the best I ever had. It was smokey without being overpowering. The beef was thin and tender and balanced well with the mushrooms it also came with. The udon noodles stayed bouncy and chewy which I didn't expect from being grilled. Very tasty and highly recommend this dish. For our final bite we shared a hot stone bowl of their pork and cabbage rice. With the hot stone bowl constantly cooking even after this dish arrived it was imperative to stir the ingredients together constantly for the first two minutes. It allowed for the runny egg to meld with the rice and the crispy texture of some ingredients was a nice bonus. All in all, I loved eating here and if my appetite was bigger I would've tried more on their menu. A solid place to eat with a great atmosphere, if you're looking for delicious food that won't take too much of your time but still lingers in your memories you have to check out Guu with Garlic.

Okeya Kyujiro is a Michelin one-star theatrical omakase restaurant, and when they say theatrical, they mean it! From the moment you're welcomed by smiling ushers in kimono to the closing tea ceremony, every movement feels intentional, precise, and elevated. The ambiance is serene and anticipatory. At the start, guests sit in silence as a black screen conceals the chefs. You see their shadows moving behind it. A bell rings, the screen lifts, and the performance begins. Dinner is a 25+ course experience priced at $325 per person. It's undeniably a splurge, but for a milestone celebration, it feels justified. The menu is seafood-forward, with many ingredients flown in from Japan. Each ingredient is presented before preparation, then carefully assembled and served directly from chef to guest. Courses arrive one by one, never rushed. The service team moves seamlessly in the background, refilling water and attending to drinks (available as an add-on) without disrupting the flow. The finale is a matcha ceremony, whisked in front of you with the same quiet precision that defines the evening. When the final sip is taken, the bell chimes once more, the chefs and staff bow, and the screens close. It was a beautifully choreographed dining experience, perfect for marking a special moment, and one I'd gladly return to for the next celebration.

Some of the dishes were very tasty while others didn't wow us. With drinks, we were quite full despite some reviews saying portion is on the smaller size. Our total was around $500 with drinks for 2 people. A really good experience for omakase, especially if you are looking for a unique experience though not my favourite one I've tried.

I noted how small this place was, and crowded, with the tables close together and a long bar with a counter and barstools there (also close together). Our reserved table was right by the front door - literally, - so every time the door opened, we got a gust of cold air (and it was a cold February night when we were there). I kept my coat on. Truth be known, I was not very comfortable. Also, it was loud. Very loud. I like how the staff shout Japanese greetings to diners whenever they enter but between the frequent shouts and the sheer volume of chatter from all the diners, all sitting close together in close proximity, it was kinda hard to hear what my friends were saying during our dinner. That said, the environment was super vibrant and, again, my friends said this was very typical of an Izakaya in Japan. Food-wise, I have no idea what my friends ordered. The menu was primarily available by way of a QR code and I had no idea what the dishes were, so I deferred to my friends' knowledge. But I can attest that all the dishes were DELICIOUS. We had some sort of Japanese street food "pancakes" (they were wonderful). We had some sort of stirfry beef with noodles (amazing). We had two types of sashimi (omg both were so fresh and so so good!). We had a few other dishes that I can't recall, but I remember I loved them. So.... the food here was GREAT. Service was also attentive which I hadn't expected, being as busy as the restaurant was. I really liked this place but I'll probably go back in the summertime when the weather is nicer as I was cold there, and I'd dine at an off-time, when the volume wasn't so loud. Even on a Thursday night, the restaurant was nearly full, which speaks to its popularity. ​I ordered the Tako Sunomono and the Premium Chirashi Don. ​Tako Sunomono: The octopus was perfectly tender and the vinegar dressing was refreshing--exactly what I needed to wash away the fatigue of the day. ​Premium Chirashi Don: The presentation was stunning and immediately worked up my appetite. Every piece of seafood was incredibly fresh and of high quality. You can really taste the difference here. ​If you're looking for healthy, fresh, and beautifully presented Japanese cuisine, Shizenya is a must-visit. Highly recommended!

SAKURA BLOSSOM ROLL - brown rice - comes with a lot and delicious UNI TEMAKI (2pc) - my husband and I each had one. very refreshing with the uni and the brown rice. SOCKEYE SALMON SASHIMI- very fresh and thick slices. I had one piece - good. MENTAIKO YAKI UDON - My favorite food item from our entire trip. Omg. I can sit there all day long and just eat this.
