*this is a great review just read to the end* We went here about 2.5 years ago and having a bad experience and left (we did not eat anything) But last night we decided to try again. We decided to order take out and I just wanna say. It got done super fast. The food was BEYOND AMAZING! And they even gave us a little free treat!! We are sooo beyond happy we gave it a try again because we filled our bellies and we're beyond happy with the outcome! Not many reviews on the udon here (makes sense! it is a sushi joint), but as someone who just wants to enjoy some noodles, the vegetable udon was very good, and more than enough for two meals (i ordered it to go). Ordered crab rangoon as well - a little sweet for my tastes, but also very generously sized rangoons. Order was ready when I came to pick it up! Vegetable udon included cucumber, mushrooms, carrots, broccoli, and white onion (i think..). Udon was cooked well, and the broth was delicious. Only improvement would be the addition of tofu! I'm embarrassed that I've been living next to sushi ai and craving some simple udon for a long time, and only just now discovered it. Will def be coming back for more. Def plan on ordering miso and edamame next time for a light lunch. read more

Our second visit and we won't be returning. We visited a couple of months ago and had no issues. We ordered 1 All you can Eat sushi to share. Not planning to order any further Sushi rolls. Plus we ordered 2 salads. Along with an alcoholic beverage. We visited in July and did the same thing. The server told us if we ate inside we would have to buy 2 All you can eat dinners at $23.98 each. He told us things have changed since we were there last. You can't share 1 All you can eat dinner. But we can take it to go. So we told him we'd take it home instead. There was under 10 customers inside while we were there. Driving 30 minutes to get To Go from this place was Not planned on. So we will eat at other Sushi places that appreciate our business. The price went up from $21.98 to $23.98. Not worth paying that for this place. We won't be recommending this location to anyone. Oh my, a very terrible experience. This was our first time here. I got AYCE sushi because I like the variety. I always get AYCE when it's an option but I do not feel I order excessively. The appetizers were not very good (the tempura was some of the worst I've had) but I was hopeful for the sushi. I got a rainbow roll, something I've had easily 20+ times other places. The fish on top honestly tasted rotten. I immediately got sick, went to the bathroom and threw up. I then needed to leave because I felt so sick and couldn't stomach eating anything else. They made us pay for all the food I didn't eat, which felt like a slap in the face. I get their policy but given the circumstances, it was just a frustrating snd surprising experience. Also, we ordered the kids noodles or ramen. When asked to describe it, the waiter showed us a photo of ramen noodles on the menu which clearly showed vegetables. What came looked and tasted identical to the Top Ramen noodles you get from the store for .50 and no vegetables. I believe it is 6 or 7$ on their menu. It was really terrible. Lastly, my husbands meal (he got a dinner plate off the menu) never came. When he asked about it, easily 10 minutes after everyone else had received their food, they said it would be another 20 minutes because (we are assuming) they didn't put the food order in. read more

I have had the all you can eat sushi here a good amount of times now and its pretty good. It is much cheaper at lunch time and quite a good deal! With COVID, the all you can eat is not really "all you can eat" obviously. Instead, its just an appetizer, three rolls, and three nigiri. This was going to be the first restaurant experience in over a year for myself and my friends due to the pandemonium. We arrived and hardly anyone was in the restaurant so we felt comfortable. All staff and patrons walking around with masks on so we felt good. UNTIL they sat a couple at the table right next to us. I went to the restroom to find out that the one half of the small restaurant was completely filled. As more people arrived they sat the rest of the tables around us. The thing that did us in was a table of six being seated right next to us that didn't even enter with masks on. The restaurant was literally at 100% capacity now with more people waiting to be seated INSIDE. We asked for our meal to go as we did not want to take the experience any further. We couldn't enjoy our meal once we finally got home as it was just all too much and all too disheartening. Always good food and good experiences and I understand wanting the business at this time but this total disregard for the current state of the world and patron safety was all too much. When you walk in, you get a weird vibe, the place is sooo small. Immediately everyone just looks at you. You seat your self, which just so happens to be very awkward. First time here for a lunch out with friends. Two ordered all you can eat sushi and two ordered single rolls/entrees. I chose the shrimp hibachi lunch special and a spicy tuna roll. The soup and salad came out quickly. The salad was small compared to other restaurants, but was good. Next, the spicy tuna roll arrived and I ate almost half of it before I remembered to take a picture. It was your standard, tasty sushi roll. It was around this time that the others received their all you can eat plates and my hibachi shrimp arrived. The hibachi lunch special is quite a bit of food. It includes your protein of choice, a heaping pile of vegetables, white rice, a spring roll, and crab rangoon (in addition to the previously mentioned soup and salad). The egg roll was crispy on the outside but mushy on the inside and the crab rangoon was a little runny for my taste. The vegetables and shrimp seemed to be primarily cooked with soy sauce so they were pretty salty, but still enjoyable. The major reason I'm giving 3 Stars is that they were suuuuuuuper slow with the second batch of all you can eat sushi. We waited and waited and waited some more. The waitress even seemed to be ignoring us. We finally flagged her down and asked for the check before the sushi arrived because we needed to leave (at this point we'd been in the restaurant 1.5 hours). They boxed it up to go even though the menu states this isn't allowed...makes me think maybe they'd forgotten about the order. Plan on staying a while if you order all you can eat. read more

Sure, it's sushi on the cheap, and while it might not be the greatest sushi the world has ever produced, it's good, extremely affordable with the all-you-can menu, it's quick,efficient, always friendly and always satisfying. I've been coming here for years and I think this place has the best deal on sushi in St. Louis. All you can eat for $13 before 3:00 and $20 after 3:00. This includes miso soup, several different appetizers, and nigiri. There's a "premium option" for a few dollars more, but I think the standard has a lot of choices. If it's busy, the service can be a little slow, but that's expected. Other than that, everyone is super friendly and attentive. The sushi itself isn't the best I've had in St. Louis, but definitely better than a lot of other places. Also, they've remodeled several times since I've been going and it is pretty nice inside now. First time coming here and we got the all you can eat sushi premium side. Staff/owner was really nice! I liked her attitude because she wasn't rude at all! We circled what we wanted to try and got it maybe 15-20 minutes later. It wasn't that busy when we walked in. We ordered some sweet and sour chicken, crab Rangoon, chicken stick, fried Oreo, etc. We got a few rolls like the crazy crab, the honey, shrimp and fried philly roll, etc. The honey roll had hardly any meat at all, all I tasted was sweet cream cheese... now I've gotten this roll at a different restaurant and it tasted way better at the other restaurant than here, too much cream cheese not enough meat. The crazy crab was ok and it did have meat in it but very bland and I also got this before at a different restaurant and it tasted way better there too. The fried rolls were good. I got another roll that was gross I can't remember the name of it. The chicken stick was really good and had good flavor!!! Crab ragoon was also good. Sweet and sour chicken just like any other place, nothing bad or special. The fried Oreo was something I was excited about trying I ordered only 1. It was GROSS! It wasn't deep fried like it should of been, it was fried with the deep fried sushi batter and it tasted awful. No sweetness to the batter or anything! After eating our food our stomachs hurt almost immediately after leaving the sushi restaurant. So would I go back? No! Would I recommend them to others? No. I told already people to not go there. Been my favorite sushi shop for almost 8 years. Worked there for a brief stint too. Unfortunately I'll have to move away soon, but it'll remain my fiancé's and my favorite restaurant. Pro-tip: don't get cream cheese in your rolls when you're doing all you can eat and be nice to the employees. Sushi Ai has great lunch specials everyday. The crab rangoon is different than any other place I've been to. It is crispy and tastes like juicy fresh crab meat instead of cheap cream cheese with a hint of fish flavor. The sushi is classic and tasty. I haven't had any roll that blew my socks off, but I would order basically any of them again. A lot of reviews complain about wait times. This baffles me. It is probably speedy for a sushi place. I happened into Sushi Japan for lunch and I was not impressed. Located in a west county strip mall that is chock full of restaurants, they have lots to compete with. The conveyor belt concept is good, but it isn't working here. Conveyor belt sushi bars usually have a sushi chef actively working the conveyor belt replacing old with new, keeping an eye on the customers and and making sure that things are rotated. This was not the case here. I came late lunch and everything on the conveyor belt tasted very old. I'm not even sure if it was made that day. Usually, the conveyor belt sushi experience is a social experience, but there was no one in the place. I was there by myself. The waitstaff seemed wrapped up in each other. Then, when I was getting ready to leave, I was approached by a guy who may have been a manager or owner. He wouldn't leave me alone talking about his personal life and seemed intoxicated. I have eaten here several times, always for the conveyor sushi and have always enjoyed the visit, with a couple of the visits taking someone new to conveyor sushi. This was Thursday's snow day and few places were open and someone wanted to get out so out we went. As the conveyor was not on this day (makes sense given few people coming in) I had the chance to try the regular menu, which I was glad I did. I have seen quite a few times people get Bento boxes (not knowing what they were at the time) so I ordered one on this visit and I really liked it. I got the Hibachi chicken which came with a California roll, shrimp dumplings, crab rangoon, rice and the chicken stir fry. The dumplings here are very good, the rice and stir fry were cooked just right and the crab rangoon must have been good because I didn't get any (someone else ate it all). Also were a few pieces of tempura. I would definitely get this again. Service was excellent and pretty much always is. While the food is very good, not sure it's 5 star level but very worthy of the 4. read more

Went there for dinner on a Friday and ordered four rolls. We waited over an hour until asking when it might be ready. People who came in 30 minutes after us were already served as well as multiple to go orders. They said they were making it then so we stayed. It took 5 minutes to make our rolls and once we got them, they were horrible. I was only able to eat one of each roll. So if you want to try their sushi, regardless of this opinion of how it is, I'd suggest doing take out. read more

It needs to be noted that this place does do the conveyor belt sushi and the service is pretty decent. However two things in particular make me not want to check this place out anytime soon - their fried calamari - I was hoping was just dusted in corn starch, which I'm used to at Japanese restaurants, but was with this ridiculously hard oily breadcrumb coating. That and instead of a light ponzu sauce or something it came with said disgusting mayo sauce. The other was that there was a fish bone in one of my fish... which I have to say I've never experienced at a Japanese restaurant before. Ever.
