If you have allergies DON'T come here. While many sushi places are able and willing to accommodate for ALLERGIES such as to SHELLFISH, this restaurant was not only unable to accommodate for it but also said that they could and then left ingredients I was allergic to in the order. I explicitly told the server I had an allergy to shellfish and when my chirashi arrived it had shrimp on the top. After changing my order I ordered the menu item I thought I would be most safe with - the tonkatsu ramen. Unfortunately it was very bland and plain with no options for customization beyond the noodles, beansprouts and egg that it came with. All in all, I can't speak for their sushi but their ramen is flavourless and their communication to the kitchen could cost anyone with a severe allergy their life. I have serious food allergies to fish. My partner and I are moving to the neighborhood. We are a family of 10. They adore sushi and could quite frankly support a small village with the amount of money they spend on it each month. Eight of us were trying to check out local restaurants when we stumbled onto Sushi Roll. We tried to call ahead to make a reservation. We were told that they need an hour notice to take a reservation. We stopped off so I could get something safe for me to eat. My family went in while I parked. I was told that I couldn't bring my food in despite the fact that we were about to spend over $200 there. My partner explained the situation and even went as far to explain the spirit of the rule... I.E. to not lose table space and therefore money by people just sitting there and not spending. She explained that it would be just as bad to have me sit there not eating. They were adamant that we couldn't be served. My family was happy to leave after such terrible treatment and people who were so set on bad business. We went to Fukuda Sushi where the person welcomed us warmly and told us not to even worry about it. We spent almost $300 had plenty of left overs of yummy food. The tea was good and we are lucky that the people at Sushi Roll were so foolish. Thank you Sushi Roll for your intolerance and poor hospitality! read more

Awesome restaurant! Good food, friendly and fast service. You get greeted as you enter the restaurant and when you leave. The spicy tuna and salmon in is a must-order -not too spicy, just the right amount of sauce and sweetness. Also, their "Awesome Roll" is delicious. It's the perfect combination of tempura, salmon and it's beautifully garnished with japanese mayo, ginger and bonito flakes. Also, be sure to ask for their "Volcano", which is a combination of sushi rolls with spicy sashimi in the middle. This place rocks! read more

I have been to Sushi and Roll plenty of times due to the obsessions my companions have over it, so I am a regular. Their sushi is probably the best dishes they have, otherwise it could be a hit or miss for others. For example, their "Okonomiyaki" (seafood pancake) was not as appealing or delicious as it sounded to fellow seafood lovers, it was very bland and almost smokey flavoured. It's texture was made up of bean sprouts, which I noticed they love to use on their entrée dishes. A LOT of it. Their customer service is quite slow in my opinion, there is only so many of them to handle a lot of people, so we end up waiting a good 20 minutes or so just to get their attention. As like for most restaurants, they do tend to forget to bring the water, extra utensils, etc. you asked for, sometimes I have to give them a reminder. But they are very kind in general. On the positive side the majority of their dishes are so yummy! Besides the ones I've mentioned, I've loved each. My favorites are "Ebi Mayo" and "Burning Cheese". They give you a moderate amount of food on your plate and not to mention cheap as well! My friend and I decided to stop by for a quick bite to eat after our study session. I personally love sushi and can never get sick of it. This is a nice sushi restaurant run by a Korean family. It reminds me of Sushi Garden in Burnaby. We were seated immediately even though it was dinner time and the place was quite busy. We ordered quite a bit of food for two people and had a lot of leftovers. The Alaska roll is really good here. Spicy salmon sashimi hit the spot, was a bit on the Spicer side but we washed it down with a few glasses of ice water. We also ordered the burning cheese roll out of curiosity and it was interesting. The burning cheese roll had spicy tuna in it along with some cream cheese and then it was deep fried and garnished with some kind of sauce. It was good but probably wouldn't order it again. My friend was happy with her California roll as that's the staple roll that always needs to be ordered. All the salmon or tuna for the raw rolls was fresh and the portions were a good size. Was not disappointed at all with this little sushi place. The prices were decent not overly priced. Our cups of tea were refilled promptly. The Atmosphere: I'll be honest; if you were to describe the design of Sushi & Roll, well... Just don't. There is absolutely nothing special about the interior (or the exterior for that matter) of this place. There are chairs, there are tables, there is a sushi bar, and there are washrooms (thankfully not in the same area). You do not get greeted by every employee there with an, "irasshaimase!" (in fact, I believe this restaurant is family business owned by Koreans), or have a hostess at the front bowing to anyone that walks their way. I usually write more about the atmosphere and design of a restaurant, but there really is nothing that stands out. There are booths on the side that sit about 6-8 depending on the size of each person and how comfortably you want to sit, there is an awkward pillar the is situated near the middle of the restaurant (which of course is part of the structural integrity of the building... I hope), there's even a tacky wallpaper with pictures of different types of sushi on the back wall... That's it. The Food: I'm going to go right ahead and skip straight to the food. This is why you should come to this place; you won't revel in its design glory, or be mesmerized by well, anything here... Except for the food. Now let me start by saying this. I am not saying this place offers the best Japanese cuisine in the Lower Mainland, and I sure am not comparing it to a place like Tojo's or even one of the Guu chains; this is a place that offers the stereotypical type of Japanese food that most North Americans imagine (such as rolls, sashimi, and udon), and they do it amazingly well for the price they ask for. Their cones are decent, with a good fish to rice ratio and a nice flavour to it. They are not anything special, but if you are in the mood for a sushi cone then by all means go for it. Again, for the price that you are paying, the tempura udon is not bad at all. The udon (whether packaged or self made) has a nice bouncy texture to it, and the soup is not too overpowering with MSG. They give you an abundance of ingredients, and the tempura that accompanies it has a light batter that does not taste too oily at all. The miso soup a decent amount of ingredients in it, but again is nothing special. In fact, it tastes quite similar to the soup base in the udon... Won't recommend ordering just the miso soup by itself unless you have a massive craving for it. The special rolls really stand out at Sushi & Roll. My two favourite rolls are the Volcano roll and the Flying Unicorn roll. The Volcano features spicy salmon and tuna sashimi with cucumbers surrounded by a deep fried California roll, covered in tobiko, green onions, and a mixture of mayonnaise and a bit of what I believe to be teriyaki sauce. The Flying Unicorn roll (not sure how they come up with these names) is actually no longer on the menu, but you can still order it if you ask the servers. It is a California roll covered with cheese, tempura batter flakes and green onions, then it is heated up until the cheese melts all over the roll. These rolls do not exactly scream originality, nor are they exactly health conscious choices... But if you are looking for that rich, full of flavour roll then definitely order at least one of these rolls. I come by here quite often, and I will always have that craving at least once a month to order one of these mouth watering rolls (I'm sure consuming these rolls have effectively cut down my lifespan by about a couple of years, but personally... It is totally worth it). Overall: Not going to lie, all that Sushi & Roll has going for it is the value you get for the amount of money you spend on the food. The restaurant itself is clean but boring, most of the servers are not very good with English, and the liveliest staff members are the chefs behind the sushi bar (who still are not too lively). What you get from Sushi & Roll though is excellent food for what you pay, and the quality is very consistent. If you're looking for the next Miku, look elsewhere; but if you want a solid roll or two for lunch or dinner, I would highly recommend dropping in for a bite if you're around the area. After being seated, the waitress did not bother to return to our table until we finally got their attention 15-20 minutes later. We were also not offered any tea or water throughout our entire meal. Made the trek out to Surrey recently to meet up with an old friend. Buddy recommended this out of the way sushi joint. Wow, amazing value, unbelievable prices, and feels oddly like an Authentic Japanese hole in the wall. I live in DT but will definitely be back for some of this. This restaurant is like the sushi garden/sushi california of surrey. Always busy, low low prices, big portions, mediocre food and stressed out waitresses. The waitress got our order wrong, we ordered a seaweed salad and received a seafood salad. Then when we asked for the seaweed salad instead, having not touched the seafood salad, she put the blame on us and told us we clearly said seaweed salad. Ok. I find amusement in bad asian service so we let it slide lol. The seafood salad was a hot (it's actually cold but you know what i mean) mess of yam chips? (not sure what that was), cabbage, shrimps, crab meat sogging in weird sour mayo dressings. Nope. The burning cheese we had was good, typical korean deep fried sushi with sauces and cream cheese. The yakiudon was also a mess, it has the weird garlicky taste that just hits every awkward taste buds possible. So nope. I was betting everything on my spicy salmon sashimi cuz i know that dish is pretty damn good in korean owned sushi joints. It was ok, the chilli pepper sauce didnt hit the spot and fish was clearly frozen. No fishy taste nor smell so hallelujah for that.
