Love this place! I'm a huge sushi fan in general but the volcano roll and spicy salmon sashimi are my favorite and a must, every time I go! On top of that, the staff are really wonderful. I had a going away party here and the double the amount of people showed up than what I had reserved for. The staff were amazing and really accommodated us even though they had to work under such short notice and we took up about half the restaurant on a Friday night. I know that my friends loved the food and often go there now, on breaks from studying at SFU :) I highly recommend this place! read more

The food is not bad, its respectable for the price. The service however isn't the best. I called for pickup on a quiet Thursday night, when I came in i said I was picking up, i gave the server my name and paid and she said to just take a seat and wait. A few more people come in to pickup and receive there orders within a few minutes. Finally after 30 mins, (45 mins after me calling) the same server looks at the last order left on the counter, and calls my name. It was sitting there for 20 minutes and was cold. Spacious, friendly staff, and fair prices

Just order some seared salmon skewers and the crispy volcano roll and you're good to go. Those are hands down the best things on the menu and the main reason why I'm giving this place 5 stars. While the sushi was good, the service was not. They messed up our order and we had to remind them twice for our food. We waited almost an hour and a half for our food and it never came. We were so fed up. The food though, was delicious. I ordered the dynamite roll, my sister ordered the salmon nigiri and my father had the spicy salmon sashimi. My friend recommended me to try this place and I quickly fell in love. Though it is not one of the best sushi restaurants out there, they offer unique rolls that are not available else where. My favourite is the amazing grace roll and the volcano roll so far. Their seared salmon nigiri is also one of my favourites, and I order it every time I go (the seared flavour is just right and the mayo on top offers an extra level of "tang"). They also have specials of the day which are posted at the front of the restaurant. Nonetheless, their lack of attentiveness can be an issue. Even though they have 3-5 servers on the floor, it is nearly impossible for them to notice you. One time, the chef had to flag down one of the waitresses for me. Also note during peak hours, rolls can take quite a long time to arrive (especially when they have many takeout orders to complete). read more

I came here once. It was busy and packed, but I couldn't understand why because the quality of the food was poor. I gave them another try hoping to redeem my experience and I did order different options. Something as simple as avocado roll or yam tempura roll should be pretty basic, but it was horrible. I composted almost all of the avocado rolls because it was that bad. The avocado ended up browing/bruising really fast and did not taste nice at all. It was embarassing because I brought them to a friends house and they didn't even touch it. No beuno for Sushi Roll. I will never come back. Thank you, but no thank you. read more

Had lunch here today with a friend and was totally impressed. The complimentary tea was served immediately when we sat down and our orders were taken 5 minutes later. The vegetable tempura was incredibly light and airy-- so delicious -- and the flavourful chicken teriyaki was served piping hot on a sizzling tray. Fast service, friendly staff, clean surroundings and reasonably priced. I paid $7.50 for the teriyaki and shared the tempura which had 7 pieces for $6.50. For just over 10 dollars, I had a wonderful lunch with generous portions. I will be returning! read more

First time visiting this restaurant which opened over a month ago and really enjoyed the food, service and reasonable pricing. Not far from Surrey Central Skytrain. The restaurant is spacious so will probably try it out for our next office group outing. Had the tempura, "I love you" sushi (special of the day) and sushi special. It was all very fresh and the chef also treated us with a nice crisp salad. For 3 of us ladies, we were stuffed and paid $27, including tip, altogether. This place is the place to go for good value sushi ... A 3 plus. I have been here many times, but there is a downside to good value - it can get very busy all the time and the service suffers - I am use to the good and bad. I usually start with a salad. The dressing is good but a bit thin due to the water left on the lettuce so it pools on the bottom. They put some fried pieces on top to add a crunch. Rated best salad at a Japanese place by my wife. I like the sushi combos ... Especially the spicy combos. You get the great spicy sashimi, a cucumber roll and what I think are the hottest spicy rolls. Tongue burning and brow sweating hot. Not sure what they put in them, but they are hot in my books. The other fav for my family is the udon. The soup is really good. Another great value item is the tonkatsu. It is huge, with nice thick pieces that are really filling. Comes with rice and salad too. We always get a selection of special rolls and they all are good. My sister drags me here anytime she's craving sushi. Well, maybe not drags. I willingly volunteer my company and tummy everytime she wants to go to Sushi and Roll. This place is so full of yum, I can't help myself. I only had one weird customer service experience there, but it's usually pretty good, so no complaints. I always get the Volcano Roll, which I definitely recommend, and Agedashi Tofu. I recently tried the Alaska Roll and it taste great! The food is ok and reasonably priced. HOWEVER, unfortunately, yesterday my friend had to wait about 50 min for his food!!!! I was nearly finished my dinner. I went with a friend around 7PM and ordered at 710PM. I had a sushi special (salad, agedashi tofu, alaska roll), he ordered gyoza and beef teriyaki. The salad and agedashi tofu from my order came out at about 725PM. At around 735, my sushi followed. My poor friend was sitting there, and I felt bad to start eating first so I waited around and we both stared at my food together. At 745, I called the main waitress and asked about my friend`s order. She asked US what we ordered....I`m going to assume she didn`t put our order in because there weren`t many back orders (grill orders) and yet we were waiting for a mere gyoza that just needs 3 min boiling and 1 min on a grill and teriyaki that takes about 6 min on a grill. She informed us that the gyoza would be `2 minutes`. About 10 min later, his teriyaki came out. Another 10 min later, I was finished my dinner and he was nearly finished his teriyaki, and no gyoza. I had to pull aside the other waitress and she finally apologized, because the other waitress did not. Surprise, about 5 min later, a soggy and sloppy gyoza was finally delivered. They did NOT put our order in, and were not sorry about it. The main waitress did not even provide any type of service for her mistake. We didn`t want to be rude and keep asking about our food, but all the tables around us were served and we had to remind the waitress of what our order was, and she did not deliver when she provided further timeframes. I recently moved to Surrey and have been trying a bunch of sushi joints. Sushi & Roll is by far my favourite. The price is good, and the quality and service is consistent. What I appreciate most about this place is that the servers will be honest with you, whether your roll will take a bit longer to make, or the tuna sashimi you ordered will be a bit on the icy side. I absolutely hate icy sashimi, so when they told me this one time I came, I was super thankful for the warning. I order the spicy tuna sashimi almost every time I go and it's always awesome. Very spicy and high quality. Their chicken teriyaki is also very good. I don't go for rolls very often, but my boyfriend orders the california roll every visit and in my opinion, are good enough, but not the best. All the other rolls I've tried seem to be good. The miso soup is also disappointing and I'm not usually picky about miso soup. But other than those two, no complaints. The place can get very busy and I've had friends who say sometimes the wait can be a bit long. However, I always arrive either right at noon or right at 6pm at the beginning of the dinner rush and I've never had any problems. Absolutely horrible service. Don't bother complaining if your food doesn't taste right because the staff will fight you back. Unfresh ingredients. Sushi rice is always dry. If you want decent sushi and a good service avoid this place. I have extensive service experience and this place definitely needs more service training. They have gone down hill over the years. Their success is mostly due to the central location. Its almost like they know they will always be busy with customers looking for cheap sushi so they don't care about the service or the quality of food. The reason for only 2 stars is that their sweet potato tempura roll and their dynamite roll is more like a kappa roll with all the cucumber. It wasn't like this in the past but I guess they figure it's better to add filler and make it look bigger.
