This place is now my new replacement for Nagoya, and let me explain why. My friend and I were craving sushi like crazy when we decided to go to Sushi and Roll. When we stepped in, it was really busy, but because one of the employees was so organized we only waited about 10 minutes for our table. Once we were seated our server came right away and gave us a really friendly greeting and took our order. I ordered the spicy tuna roll (my favourite roll to get), the burning cheese roll (speciality roll), ebi sunomono, and miso soup. My friend ordered a Ramen, miso soup and a fantastic roll (speciality). The waitress said it will be a bit longer than usual for our food because of what we ordered and because it was packed, which we understood. We weren't in a rush anyways. But, surprisingly it wasn't even that long until we got out food. For the miso soup: it was a big portion, bigger than what I usually get at other restaurants but, I was a little disappointed by the flavour. It wasn't a bold and amazing like other places I've been to. My ebi sunomono was also a let down dude to the flavouring, but I was impressed with what they garnished it with. They put 3 big slices of shrimp (as usual), thinly sliced radish, cucumber, thinly sliced carrots and a slice of lemon. The spicy tuna was amazing! It was very spicy which is how I love my spicy tuna. Now to the life changing sushi. The burning roll sushi was AMAZING! And has become my new favourite speciality roll. (It use to be nagyoa's SAC roll). It was a deep fried spicy tuna roll with cream cheese and the most amazing sauce! When it are the last roll I was disappointed because I wanted more and wish I was able to eat more. But the portions were so good that I was full. My friend's Ramen. The server said it was good enough for one person but the serving looked big enough for 2 people. I was very impressed by one of the servers. She seemed to be in charge of the floor. As a huge fan of the "Sushi Town" chain, I've been waiting patiently for something similar to come to Surrey and finally it has with this new spot. The sushi here is fantastic like many people have advertised and reasonably priced too. The decor of the restaurant is quite nice despite the challenging location and the staff despite what some other reviewers have stated are really friendly, attentive and committed. I normally never go to Surrey but a friend frequents this place and often rave about the quality of the food. I was naturally hyped to visit. Ordered the cheezy roll, awesome roll, various nigiri and sampled a bit of the spicy salmon sashimi from my friend. I was disappointed. Everything was just average. But that is one of the great things about this place. This place is pretty busy and packed whenever I would eat here but I would definitely be willing to stand in line to be seated. I always get Salmon Sashimi which is my ultimate fave next to Salmon Nigiri (notice a trend here?). The pricing is affordable for the delicious food you get. Servers were attentive and the sushi chefs were very friendly and welcoming. I've eaten here a number of times and I've yet to try the seared salmon! The volcano roll was amazing and not overly spicy for my taste. I've also had their takoyaki and it was perfectly cooked and wasn't mushy at all. The salmon sashimi was generously sliced and was deliciously fresh! In their kitchen you'll see that they skin the salmon themselves and tons of huge fresh salmon are waiting to be cut at the sushi station. People must really love their salmon here as well! Sushi & Roll is amazing! Let's get that out of the way. We had ordered take out from here at least a year ago, when we moved into the area, and we weren't impressed. As I recall we thought it was overpriced for the quality and portion. Tonight, Sushi & Roll has surpassed most if not all of my favourite sushi places in Surrey. We started with miso soup, veggie sunomono, and ebi sunomono. All, fantastic. Kyle had the miso and the veggie and he reports they were great. My ebi was delicious. The shrimp was tasty, not at all fishy or weird. Plus it was actual ebi and not those small frozen guys. The dressing was yummy, perhaps more sweet than tangy, but delicious nonetheless. Next up, tuna and salmon sashimi. The tuna was sooo good. Tender, flavourful, melted in my mouth. The salmon was also good but I think I'm in a tuna mood lately, and so the salmon was underwhelming because of my own personal preference. Spicy agedashi tofu: yum. Could have been more crunchy but the sauce was banging. We ordered 3 rolls: fantastic, negitoro, and burning cheese (odd name, sure, but a dang good roll). Fantastic roll is double ebi tempura, avocado, crab, cucumber, spicy tuna and crunchy bits on top, with a creamy spicy sauce and green onion. It was really good. Negitoro is, of course, fatty tuna with green onion. I've been ordering this almost every time we get sushi and Sushi & Roll does it really well. Super tasty. The burning cheese roll is cream cheese, spicy tuna, deep fried with masago and a couple of sauces on top. This was a hit, and I say that because Kyle really dislikes cooked fish in his sushi. The tuna is cooked by the deep fry process. But, he loved this roll. As recommended by previous Yelpers, this is a solid menu option. We also had a large Kirin and a small Sapporo. Good neighbourhood sushi joint in Surrey. Nice and simple, nothing fancy, but perfect for when you just need some sushi. Tried the dynamite roll which was good. Salmon sashimi was fresh. Spicy salmon roll was a red spicy sauce, I prefer a creamy spicy sauce with my spicy salmon but personal preference. My friend ordered the Tonkatsu which was HUGE and meat was juicy, crispy and tasty. Place is actually really nice inside, especially for the location. Lots of tables. The first time I was brought to Sushi & Roll I was heavily doubtful of the place. There's not even a logo, it just says Sushi & Roll on the sign outside. The hell? We sat down and the staff were pretty friendly, kinda standard sushi place staff. Then the rolls came, primarily, the Volcano Roll. Here's a simple guide to eating at Sushi & Roll: Rule 1: Order a volcano roll. Rule 2: Eat said volcano roll. Rule 3: Experience bliss. They have a lot of other good rolls as well, and the miso soup was pretty tasty as well. But man, the volcano roll is on another level. Prices have increased and the quality of customer service has gone down. This was once my go-to sushi joint in Surrey but with competitors such as Sushi King George and Sushi California now as options, I don't find myself visiting Sushi and Roll as often as I used to. It's still one of the more decent sushi restaurants in Surrey. Here are a few great things about the establishment. 1) It is conveniently located off Surrey Central SkyTrain station 2) Their rolls are pretty good (the burning cheese roll is my fave!) 3) You are seated quite quickly when there is a wait during lunch/dinner rush Although I find it extremely difficult to wave down a waitress at this restaurant, I still come here with my family or the odd time to catch up with friends. Went to Sushi & Roll while I was home again and I was pleasantly surprised by the restaurant. The service was way better, a server kept coming around with water and tea which is a nice change. The food did take a while as usual but it was great so I can't complain. They have a new menu, with new dishes, the only negative thing I can say about the place is that they raised the prices slightly for some dishes and that they are now are charging for extra sauces. I found the food very well priced, but there was temperature control issues when I ate here. It seems like many items were already made in advance to be served. This was particularly so for the bento box. The chicken teriyaki was cold and the rice was also borderline cool/cold. The sushi rice was also cold. Miso soup was lukewarm. Service was fast. For anyone in a hurry, this is a great place to go eat. I prefer a balance between service, quality and price. I am not coming back anytime soon because of the cold food. I came here last night with my friend to try it out. I always drive by this place but never had the thought of eating here. Its in central surrey, and is in a nicer plaza than the ones behind it, so we didn't come across any sketchy people which was a good thing. This place was good, big portions of sashimi and sushi, and good prices. It kind of reminds me of a sushi garden, but in surrey. We ordered sashimi, 3 rolls, tofu and a green salad for $35. We were so full by the end of the meal, we could have not ordered 2 extra rolls. Just your typical sushi place. It's not bad but it's not like insanely good I'm dying to go back. Their sunomono was really good and flavourful compared to some places that tastes bland. I ordered the dragon roll and spicy tuna roll and I wouldn't get it again. There were still so many bones in the unagi on top of the roll that I picked it all off and just ate the roll which was just an avocado roll. My first impression was that it was a busy place and noise levels were average. Overall it seemed organized and tidy. I waited around 5 minutes for my last roll which was to be expected. First impression: the place is nice and neat. Noise level is low. The place is really busy, it was 70%filled inside of the restaurant. I ordered a special mango roll, unagi roll, and wakami. The mango roll is very fresh mixed with avocado and cucumbers, well made; the rice is not too soggy, the avocado is very fresh, no brown spots, cucumber doesn't taste like refrigerated stored. This place could be your go-to restaurant... but only if you enjoy cheap sushi and are willing to sacrifice on flavor. it's not bad. it's just not good. most of the sushi is just bland. I came here with a big party and we each ordered a roll. all of the specialties/fancy rolls were more bland and boring than the classic spicy salmon roll, where the spicy sauce saved the taste. my dad ordered udon and even with artificial crab meat and fish ball, it tasted as fake as chewing a plastic bouncy ball. Large restaurant. Lots of tables, yet depending on when you go, you may have to wait for a seat. Furniture is a tad bit small for my liking, could barely fit 3 dishes on a table for 2. Servers are nice and are prepared to fill up your tea, even if it's not empty. Lots of chefs behind the sushi bar and in the kitchen, but you can still wait roughly 10-15 minutes for a roll. Food is great. Sashimi cuts are nice and thick. They have lots of special rolls to choose from and aren't very pricey. Nigiris could be done better as the rice would break apart from underneath the fish. Although it may seem like there are quite a bit of cons listed above, I would recommend to try Sushi & Roll out. While the food is delicious, fresh and savory, the service is very very (and I mean VERY poor). The restaurant has been open for a couple months now and it is as if the restaurant owner has no clue as to what they are doing. On the weekdays, service is great as there aren't that many people and business is steady. If you go in the weekends, expect to wait for your food for over an hour without any apologies. I am frequently served by a waitress who never apologizes for serving me a side plate with crusty food on it, for the food being late or forgetting my spoon, napkin, chopstick and sauces after serving my food. She never smiles. Groups of people will be waiting for a table to be cleared and will end up leaving because the restaurant is under staffed. Did I mention that they've been open for a couple of months? Get it together Sushi & Roll. You need more staff and preparation for high volumes of customers. Be sure to get there a little early if you can, seating can be filled fairly quickly and can take a little while before you can order. I come here with my parents and sisters every now and then, and the food is always good and noise level is to be expected when there's a busy rush and lots of people come in groups. We usually get a good amount of food and hardly ever have leftovers because we're a hungry family that way :) Don't come here too often, but it's always a nice time when we do get the chance. read more
