Sushi Cafe is the best, most consistent sushi restaurant in Renton. Last year they refreshed the space with new paint and some finishes, but it still is the same homey restaurant on the hill. The food is great. My go-to roll is the sunrise roll - it is a 5 piece roll so I can order nigiri as well, it has shrimp, crab mix, salmon, cucumber, avocado, and sprouts with smelt roe on top - it is simply delicious! I then order various nigiri - it is always delicious, always good. The service is excellent. I typically sit at the sushi bar and just enjoy myself. During football season they will have various games playing. Nothing like sushi and football! I very much enjoy my time at Sushi Cafe! read more

This was our second time here. My husband and I call it our hidden gem. The food is very delicious and they give you a lot. The first time we came we each had a sushi roll and a plate. That turned out to be way too much food for us. This time we had appetizers and a plate still too much food for me, but the right amount for my husband. The plate comes with miso soup, spring salad, macaroni salad, rice and choice of meat. Unless you order the Yakisoba, then your plate is filled with noodles and chicken or tofu. I had mine with tofu, it was nicely cooked. Our appetizer was crab wonton... this was very delish, I highly recommend this. Since we always show up before the rush. It's quiet. Tv is on low. The quality of seafood and menu is truly fantastic! We come here regularly and are always very happy with our meal. The service is...pretty awful. Servers are friendly but truly clueless; forgetting water, forgetting pretty much everything asked for, not checking on tables, etc. They would make more money if they asked us if we wanted to order anything else instead of preemptively bringing our check before we are even done with our drinks. My expectations were low but after my meal, I was pleasantly surprised and impressed with my experience. Although the restaurant is small, the menu and specialty rolls are huge - they do offer outdoor dining too. Myself and two friends split the house boat, which was $140, and we didn't even finish it, but I was so impressed with the sushi cuts, the quality, and the display itself. A great date night idea would be to split the love boat - you just get a great mixture of sashimi, nigiri, and rolls. Service was so-so, but I also can acknowledge that they had teen servers. In my opinion, the fish quality and thickness is very good for the price and it is a great portion size. This time we dined in and sat in their outdoor patio area. It was a bit intimate as we were very close to other tables, but it was nice to enjoy the summer evening. We ordered about 7 things. The servers were attentive, quick to grab our order and bring out plates, and refilled our waters at a timely place. Tempura was not my favorite (the coating was a bit heavy), but not bad. As a local I'm disappointed to see how skimpy they've gotten with the fish in specialty rolls. There was barely any eel in the unagi roll, refer to the pic for a visual. I don't mind paying a premium for good sushi but this came with a high price just for rice and veggies. Rolls are also tiny compared to other sushi restaurants. Wow. Great sushi! They have unique specialty sushi rolls at a good price range. The fish felt high quality and fresh. The rolls are presented beautifully and made well (they don't fall apart and aren't grossly oversized nor sadly undersized). I ate one roll and 1 cup of miso soup and was happily full. They have quite a variety of other sashimi, nigiri, appetizers, and bowls. They also serve a variety of sweet to dry sake, a few different beers, and some Japanese sodas. The roasted green tea is complimentary and free refills. That tea is soooo good. A somewhat smaller, more intimately sized restaurant but you can go there in casual clothes as we did. They had football playing on the TV when we were there and some fun Japanese and sports decorations in the wall. Fast, friendly service. Good food. Folks with Disabilities BEWARE of this business. This business discriminates against ADA protected persons, especially those with service animals. I recently attended their restaurant on a business meeting with my service dog and was blatantly and very clearly discriminated against publicly because of my service dog. They refused to acknowledge Federal and State Law and doubled down on their stance by segregating myself and my service animal and guest, which resulted in unnecessary harm to both myself and my service animal. A formal complaint has been filed with the justice department. This entity also does not comply with required signage in regard to this matter. In regard to food and ambiance, food was ok, similar to a "take out"/grocery store quality of sushi. It was flavorful and satisfied my craving for general sushi. The tea was nice and was a nice hot temperature. The ambiance was again, very fast food/take out feel. It's not very "clean" looking on the inside for a sit down sushi restaurant, and I feel would fall under more of a dive type restaurant experience (which can be a fun thing sometimes). If the discrimination had not occurred review would have been three stars for just ok food quality and general atmosphere. read more

Fantastic service and sushi! Started delicious miso soup, I like the light flavor, not too strong with a nice hint of scallions. The very small cubes of soft tofu were nice and not too large at all. Had the edamame that had a very nice salty and spicy seasoning on top. We had a plate of sashimi with beautiful and bright salmon that melted in your mouth and perfect texture. The yellow fin was perfect band buttery. I love albacore I just don't like the sear. If flavors the fish the wrong way for me. Next time we will order without the sear. Two rolls: Firework which was delicious and very spicy it had pieces of ahi and white tuna with yellow tail on top of the roll with Korean poke sauce-amazing and nothing seared! We also had the Sunset roll: ahi m, crab salmon and yellow tail wrapped in cucumber. This roll was bright and light, very nice way to end our meal. The restaurant is very small, clean and tucked away. Great service and excellent food. I recommend for a quick and easy dinner. read more

Me and my boyfriend came at a time when it was game day so of course it was slow day for them. We were sat with a table with no tableware ready compared to their other tables. I was patient to have them place it onto our tables after we ordered but we didn't receive it until we finished our crab rangoon.. We didn't even get a chance to ask for our tableware. The sushi is just ok, I've had better and I've had worse. The only problem is it's just overpriced in my opinion. No need to pay 52 dollars for 3 rolls that are just ok at best. Another Sushi Cafe trip for the win! Delicious assortment of sushi variety! This time we opted to get some entree dishes to feed the non-sushi eating family members (not pictured). We tried the broccoli beef, House fried rice, and vegetable stir fry (that i can remember). All dishes were really tasty and everybody ate something. I'd take my hat off to the vegetable stir fry. 3/16/19 Been two years since I've been here came to celebrate my friend's birthday all three of us got the bento two of us with tempura and one with Mongolian beef. Serving was a nice sushi was fresh, but probably wouldn't order the tempura again the broccoli was really doughy and there were two large pieces I didn't eat one of them. May want to try cutting it smaller. Service was friendly and had a steady crowd for Saturday lunch. They use the sane seaweed salad like many places around town but think they added something which made it their own. Ume shiso is one of my favorite roll had an order of it and it was beautifully presented. Hopefully I don't wait another two years before returning. A little hidden gem of a surprise in Renton. My brother and his wife had been for dinner. Enjoyed a yummy lunch with my dad and brother. Garlic chicken and side of tempura came out nice and hot. Poke was flavorful. We ordered from here because of its high rating. Although, I was surprised to notice that this location is hidden away from street traffic, in a tiny strip mall with a separate driveway behind a gas station. You'd have to know it was there! This place is open during COVID-19, for pickup only. They have a plexi door that only halfway opens for food handoff. We were quoted 30 minutes and the food was ready when we go there. The sushi from this place was outstanding. Although we love sashimi and nigiri, but we're not purists. I love finding unique rolls with uncommon combinations. It's one of the better sushi places in the area in terms of rolls. The entree tempura was also a good size. It was pretty busy for a Thursday night, but the restaurant is also smaller in size. There were probably about 8 tables and a bar area. I haven't tried their sashimi, but it didn't look like they have uni. Price is average for a sushi restaurant. The 4 items plus tax was $50. Came in for lunch and was able to get the last table for 4. It was pretty busy on this Saturday, and now we know why. The fish is of good quality, and the rolls nicely presented. Also, it's a fairly small restaurant. The service was friendly and while they did offer a high chair for our son, I wish it was in a bit better condition. Chair was extra sticky, even with us wiping it down. As for the food we shared, a vegetable tempura that was fried nicely without being too oily. Then we order a chicken yaki-udon that had a good mix of meat and veggies but could be a bit more flavorful. Along with 3 other rolls, the Sunset, MVP, and Fancy Pants Roll. The sunset is a great carb free option with it being wrapped in cucumber instead of rice and nori, and had an abundance of tasty fish. The MVP was a bit of a glorified California Roll so probably wouldn't order again. The Fancy Pants Roll has a nice spiciness to it with the yellowtail that I did enjoy.
