Im normally someone who enjoys my high end sushi restaurants, and normally I sway from belt sushi, but Sushi Chiyo is the BEST sushi in town. After they opened a few years ago, I eat there once or twice every month! Reasonable prices and delicious rolls. If you haven't tried the Lion King roll, the baked mussels, or the Volcano roll, you're missing out. Everything is fresh and you can get anything made to order. Unlike most belt sushi places, the selection is huge and the belt is always full. They have the best happy hour from 1-4:30 as well. There's also a rare take-out option, which most sushi places don't let you do. Even if you don't like sushi, their hibachi menu and noodles are delicious. They recently hired a whole group of new staff, who are very prompt and friendly. This place is a 5/5. You HAVE to try it! read more

Cute place, looks pretty clean, but the sushi and miso soup (which was the worst miso I've had) all had a sweet tang to them. Im not sure what that was, but it was unlike any sushi I've had... and I wasn't a fan. The variety on the belt wasn't much. I couldn't tell if my server was friendly or not either; she was hard to read, but prompt, to be fair. Probably won't go back. The sushi taste threw me way off. read more

Basic sushi conveyor belt. Located in a busy location and tough to find parking. Service is alright and no sure if the chefs know English so make sure to enunciate your personal orders which might take a while to get. Prices during non happy hour time is not worth it for this sushi, ranging from $1.35 to $6+ per plate. Best time to come is for happy hour where you can get a better deal with all plates $1.85 and the green ones still for $1.35. I only come here for happy hour and you can tell that they only make the lower end sushi unless you order. Of course you gotta order the expensive plates for happy hour. I was able to get a few of the expensive plates but some they said were out, which I don't believe. There is a variety of sushi and you can look at the menu placed in front of you to see all the selection. Texture of sushi is good and pretty standard. The volcano roll I ordered had too much sauce on top and was drenched making it feel fatty. It was a small little roll definitely not worth $6, but good to try for $1.85. For better sushi and cheaper price, go to sushi hana on mill plain where the plates are all $1.50 any time of the day. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I have been here twice. The first time, my husband, toddler, and I came right as they opened. They had a ton of pre-prepared rolls out (which had been out for a while, given their temperature) but not a lot of nigiri. Okay, we thought, as two lactose-intolerant people (my husband is also allergic to eggs, so anything mayo is out), we're used to waiting a little bit for sushi we can eat. We waited .... and waited ..... and the sushi chefs were standing around doing nothing. So we flagged them down and ordered some rolls, which were fine -- nothing fantastic but nothing worth spitting out. Despite our slightly negative experience, we decided to give it another shot. The wait was incredibly long, which taxed our toddler's patience, but I was willing to give them that one because we requested one of the three tables and it was a busier lunch time. The woman who seated us said nothing to us, and immediately walked away without offering water or asking if we wanted anything to drink. We were very hungry and also under time constraints due to the very long wait, and started grabbing plates. The tuna was watery and not worth the time it took to chew it. The salmon tasted good. I gambled on a few rolls (one ended up having cream cheese - oops), while my husband watched the two rows of sushi roll around without anything he could eat and my toddler ate the only kid-friendly food available -- cream puffs and the rice from underneath our nigiri. Eventually, I broke through the careful gaze-avoidance of all the chefs in the center and asked for a plate of eel rolls. We watched the chef we spoke to start some rolls .... with tempura shrimp. Okay, maybe the other guy is doing it ..... no, he's making more California rolls. After sitting there for five minutes, still with nobody coming by to ask how we were doing/if we wanted anything to drink, we decided that we were just going to leave. Here's where it really got good. After being told that our total was over $35 (ouch!), I very plainly told the hostess that we were extremely disappointed with the bad service we had received, and expressed the specifics of the bad service. Her response was to LAUGH and tell me to sign on the dotted line. I let her know that we would not be coming back, and wrote a very clear $0.00 tip. read more

First of all, the price for the quality of sushi served here is way too much for any time other than Happy Hour. The sushi seemed too cold, the spicy mayonnaise was too bland, and the chili sauce overpowered all the sushi. The octopus in particular wasn't very good at all. I would recommend not putting any sauce on the sushi so people can decide if they want sauce on it or not. I'm never going there again. I ordered hot tea and it was scalding hot. Very disappointed with this place, we got there a little over an hour before they closed. They sat us quickly and got us water. Not more than 5 mintues later they came over and tried to take away, the ginger and wasabi, even though we were clearly using it. When they brought us our water I ordered two rolls, I had to remind them to put it in, he messed up the order after I just told him, and seemed irritated when he had to correct it. The two rolls were horribly made, they fell apart and the fish tasted old and over cooked. They gave me one roll so hot that, that it burnt my mouth and I had to spit it out. I love the conveyor belt concept here. I personally prefer this to ordering off a menu, as I like to see what I'm getting when it comes to sushi. The food is consistently good and the staff is nice and helpful. The chefs are very receptive to taking orders from the conveyor belt seating as we decide we need stuff, and are quick to start on what we ask for. The food seems to be high quality from what I can tell and the place is very clean. I've never been grossed out here, which I can't say of every sushi restaurant I've ever been to. Consistently good experience here. Only downside is that they can get packed, but that often happens when a place is good. read more

I have been here many times over the past year or so and always come away feeling somewhat disappointed. This is conveyer-belt style sushi place. Usually those are hit-or-miss and I have to say that lately this place is mostly miss. First off, they recently raised their prices by 10 cents on all the plates and the quality I believe has gone down quite a bit since they first opened. They have one particular roll that is filled with imitation crabmeat and cream cheese with salmon on top and spicy mayo on top of that. Now I'm not really a big sushi/cream cheese fan but I guess these rolls are popular because there are always, ALWAYS a ton of them on the belt. Then their version of the spicy tuna roll is minced tuna rolled in dry chilli powder. When you bite into it you can feel the dry bits in your mouth...and this is one of the more expensive plates. I ate that once and it was enough. Couldn't finish the other 3 rolls on the plate. All of the rolls seem to come with a TON of sauce on them. Way different from when they first opened. I find that I prefer NOT to have a crapload of spicy mayo, eel sauce, etc.. on every roll I pick up. The wait staff are OK I guess. They usually get my drink right away. I don't drink all that much while I eat so I'm not really ever lacking for a beverage but I see a lot of folks around me really trying the get the waitresses attention for more drinks. If you want a roll that you don't see on the belt, it takes a while to flag down the chef then it takes FOREVER to get your roll. I was going to this place because it was super close to my house but after going to Sushi Tsunamai, I think I'll give this place a pass from now on. The 2 stars are for being conveniently located for me. If you want good sushi in the Vancouver area, Mio Sushi is it. If you are watching your pocketbook, give Sushi Tsunamai a try. read more

In a town with very little options, Chiyo is one of the only places to go that is somewhat decent. By this I mean hit or miss. I guess it depends on who is working. It was OK I guess. Sushi was rolled really sloppy. I couldnt enjoy anything with Z100 blaring out at me. Its a dining experience not a freaking dance club. The male staff was unfriendly and the female staff forgot my order. And there was only a few people in there. I also dont understand why they have to put the mayo sauce on so many items. Being Japanese i kinda know what good sushi is as I've grown up with this being made at home. Well i decided to try this place out... Lets see... 1. No quail egg 2. Unagi was a special request 3. Creamy scallop was also by request n not that good 4. I saw many plates not covered 5. I wonder how they know how long a plate has been going around... Like the raw salmon, tuna, etc... 6. Happy hour $1.85 a plate is a gimick. The portion is small. Normal rolls are about $6-10 and you get an actual full roll as in a roll made with an entire sheet of nori. 7. You'd be better off going to an actualy syshi restaurant n fetting some better quality n fresh sushi. I won't be going back... Matter if fact, ill just have to make my own... read more

This place is fast food sushi. It is just like buying a burger at McDonald's. For fast cheap sushi, it does it's job. The sushi is pretty good but not great, but you can eat fast and get going again for well under $10. The staff is always helpful even when busy. We made the mistake of going to a different sushi conveyor restaurant, Sushi Tsunami. It was so poor that we decided to leave and continue our dinner at Sushi Chiyo. Sure, they use fake crab as well, but the difference in quality, selection, taste and price is much better! They offer starter items such as edamame and seaweed or squid salad as well as dessert options on the double conveyor belt. We ended up spending just about the same amount as we did at Sushi Tsunami and didn't feel cheated for it. From now on if we want some good quick sushi closer to home this is our place. read more

My wife and I go here somewhat regularly. Sometimes they will have a good spread, and other times I will stare at Burgerville in envy. All in all it's a pretty decent sushi joint. They have great calamari and tasty deserts. They also use way too much spice mayo. read more

I made an online order and waited to get a notification that my food was ready to pick it up. When I did, I got to the restaurant and a server named yun and the other hostess argued that I did not place an order. After showing them my order on the phone which was confirmed, and opening up the postmates order they still did not believe I had made an order. I showed them my email, and verified that it had been paid for and they still did not believe I had an order in and did nothing to help. I asked if I could get a refund or if they could just make my order since it showed I had paid, and it was an error on their end. They both said no, and kept stating I had not put an order in. Luckily another server actually read the names of the pick-up orders and found mine. This whole ordeal lasted 20 minutes. Previously we had frequented this restaurant fairly frequently and enjoyed the visits, but unfortunately, this time was dreadful and Yun was extremely rude. read more

I never recieved my order and they had to be reminded. My ice water sat empty for 10 minutes and they walked past our booth at LEAST six times. I am really not a fan of the sushi here. The rice was goopy and not seasoned and the rolls were not made well. The fish also didn't seem fresh and my hubby and I ordered chicken yakisoba only for it to arrive 25 minutes later. We almost cancelled the order because it was taking so long. No one ever came back to check on us - I thought the customer service was really poor. The chicken yakisoba was the worst I have ever had (not the right kind of noodles and just the tough white parts of cabbage??). To top it all off I got an upset stomach and it has taken me a couple of days for me to return to normal. I would not recommend this place. read more
