This is my first time here since I am visiting my boyfriend and came to eat with his family. The place is really neat and organized, and the decorations on the wall are unique. I am impressed by the good waitress service and how fast the foods were prepared. The dinner combo plate comes with the beef plate and Tempura dish both in perfect size portions. Apparently, when you go to Sushi Cuisine for lunch, it tastes better because the food is cheaper... Well, silly me for going during dinner when everything is priced so high that I realize that it is all mediocre. I can't say a whole lot about the service, as I did an order for pick up, but the staff greeted us quickly and happily, which is commendable. Unfortunately, the food itself really did nothing for me except make me less hungry. My unagi donburi had a very funny texture. Perhaps it had been previously frozen too long and the 2 small pieces of fish were extremely thin. Basically, for the 9 dollar dinner price, you get two sparsely marinated guppies over two pounds of rice. The gyoza are listed on the menu as the deep fried variety, but instead i got boiled, flavorless, dumplings. The baked mussels were just downright disgusting. The California rolls were fine, but I'm not really sure you can mess up a California roll in the first place. I would not come here again of my own accord, but it isn't so nasty to the point where I wouldn't accompany a friend if they wanted to go. 3 stars from me instead of 2 because I really appreciate friendly staff. read more

I have been a patron of Sushi Cuisine since they first opened in Turlock a whole lifetime ago. Same great, extensive menu and same great food. Their sushi is always good, not the best I've ever had, but they are consistent and I can always find something for everyone. I always recommend this place to people. I had dinner here with a friend and my boyfriend and we decided to go ahead and give this place a shot. I ordered the fried calamari and must say it was delicious and i know i will definitely order it again. They were very crispy and they sauce that was given was also very good. We also ordered the California Roll and it was not that great, the roll seemed to fall apart when you picked it up. My friend tried to order the ramen noodles but they were out and its only monday, which is kinda disappointing. My boyfriend orded the steak teriyaki which came with white rice and a salad and miso soup. I had the miso and i thought it was good and i tried the teriyaki and i thought it was good was well. My friends bowl of soup came and it was HUGE. The restaurant was nice and modern it was very clean and the servers made sure your cup never ran dry. I have been here one time so far and it was a win! I had a white tuna hand roll that I thought seemed a little steep for about 5 dollars. However, when it came out, I was surprised to find how massive it was and felt it was worth its value. Similar in size to a similarly priced burrito. My other things was a plate of tuna with soy that was served along with some very thin fried things (it was a special). I wish I had more of the fried things or seaweed to grab the remaining tuna. I'm definitely a fan of this place. For all the times I've been and lived in Merced, I never knew there was Sushi Cuisine. It was probably because I didn't care for sushi then. Anywho, my first time at this place was during my grandmother's funeral. We were starving, food wasn't ready yet at my grandmother's home, so we came here and ATE! I got a bento box, which was delicious! The second time I came to this place was this past weekend. I wanted to try their sushi out...well my version of sushi... and it was DELICIOUS! I ordered their California Crunch Roll and their Teriyaki Chicken Roll. MAN, the California Crunch Roll was SOOOO DARN CREAMY AND YUMMY! I have never been so disgusted to receive service here. Truly an experience I will never forget, I am a student here at Uc Merced as well as a Hmong American. My friends and I were scurrying in before their 2:30 close time and was seated. I understood Hmong so I could hear them talking RUDELY about us and some last straggling customers. Before we were properly assigned a waiter, I heard another waiter yell in Hmong demanding that our table push orders in. As the waiter came by to put down my friends bowl of udon, SHE MUTTERED IN HMONG a sly comment. ( Translating to something like " why didn't he just come get his own bowl" , she said it very quick BUT I caught it ).My eyes grew wide and I flagged down another waitress to ask her what HELL she muttered under her breath. The original waitress returned trying to "clairify " what she has said , stating that she said " to give him his own bowl" . This waitress had frizzy, streaky blonde hair and thankfully I didn't catch her name. I was so disappointed and disgusted with the Behavior of her and treatment, we asked for packing trays and left asap. THE MANAGER EVEN CAME TO APOLOGIZE TO US FOR HER BEHAVIOR . As a person who has grown up working the restaurant life, I can understand this rush to close and prepare for the next opening hour and how eager these waitresses were to go home. REGARDLESS a waitress should learn when to hold her tongue and THINK before speaking something sly in Hmong , ESPECIALLY around another person who speaks fluent Hmong. We tried this shortly after it opened and was very impressed. This is definitely where to go for an "authentic" feel rather than "trendy" like at Pocket 8's on G Street. I am not a sushi fan but my son is and he loved it, they have a huge selection. I had the teriyaki chicken and it wasn't fabulous but definitely decent. Good variety of dishes other than sushi as well for those without a penchant for raw seafood. I'm going to keep this short and sweet everything that I've eaten here has exceeded my expectations. It's a bit small in the building but the food packs a lot of flavor. I only have one negative comment which is the only reason why I didn't give 5 stars and that's because of the servers they are really nice young ladies but while we were looking over the menu they came and asked us 3 or 4 different times within 2 minutes apart were we ready to order so I really didn't like that it felt like we were being rushed but other than that everything is absolutely amazing. read more

This is the best sushi restaurant in Merced but not the best I've had. The service is very good and fast. This place doesn't disappoint I've never had a bad experience here. I've had kings sushi in downtown and it was ok and from what I hear from other people this place is much more affordable than pocket 8's. Their price is a little bit high but for good food it is worth it. If you are in Merced and are craving sushi I recommend this place. I've tried their chicken katsu, chicken donburi, teriyaki chicken dinner, miso soup, and the majority of their rolls. I enjoy their complementary hot tea it is very good. Overall for this place to be in Merced it deserves 5 stars if it was in any other major city it would get 4 stars. read more
