The food was good and quickly served. There was an issue when the bill was payed. Was not pleased with the answers received.

First time actually downgrading a score (I think). Although their service has picked up a little since my last review, today was just unacceptable and I doubt I will ever go back. First, I was told to sit wherever I wanted. Since all the booths were full I sat at one of the many open tables. I was asked what drink I would like: water. Wait 5 minutes: no water. Second server approaches me: since there is only one of you would you like to sit at a booth? Um, do you see any open booths? No. OK. Would you like to sit a the bar? I was told to sit wherever I like, and this is where I would like to sit. Although, I am happy to share my table if necessary. Never mind, what would you like to order? Proceed to order: salad dressing on the side. Got it! Still no water. Ask 3rd server for water. Water finally comes. Entree comes with dressing on the salad. Since they put dressing on the salad, I brought you another dry salad on the side. Did I say I wanted one wet salad and one dry salad??? No, I specifically asked for dressing on the side. Guess what I did NOT get. Unfortunately, the server did not wait to see if everything was ok or ask what else I might need, and just walked away. After several attempts to get any servers' attention, you know, by looking DIRECTLY at them, I again ask the 3rd server for my side of dressing. By this time my food is getting cold. 5 minutes later the salad dressing comes. Then when I'm nearly done with my meal 3rd server asks how everything is. This is probably 30 minutes in. Finish meal, and 3rd server removes plates and drops the check. Doesn't say anything else. I ask for a few more napkins. 5 minutes later I have to ask for napkins again from the same server. Finally, now I can pay and get out. Keep in mind that there were 4 servers on duty covering maybe 12 tables that were mostly 2-3 tops. This is not a circumstance which should require this level of effort for anything. It's a shame really, because they have pretty good food, but that just isn't a substitute for good service. I remain absolutely baffled at how many restaurants in this city have zero understanding of this very basic concept. read more

If you live in Merced, you know that there aren't many options here for Sushi. But where does everyone go? Sushi Cuisine! As I'm enjoying my last few days here, I decided to grab lunch with my co-worker and it was great as always! The servers are attentive and if there aren't many customers, they usually let you pick where you want to sit. There's a mini bar area in the back as well as booths and tables to choose from. It was my co-worker's first time here today so I had to show her all the good stuff! We got their Serrada Appetizer ($7.95) w/ Salmon to start off (must get here!). It's a mixture of your choice of fish with avocado and a spicy sauce. I don't remember there being any sesame seeds so I was surprised to see a heavy hand of it today. Would definitely ask for it without next time! As for our rolls, we decided on the Titanic (with only salmon on top) and the Monte Vista to share. The Titanic ($12.95) is my all time favorite roll here and I never get anything different or without it. Imagine shrimp tempura with heaping slices of salmon on top with imitation crab, spicy mayo, and green onion. Yum! I opted to get salmon only but the original roll comes with a variety of fish on top. The Monte Vista (11.95) had tuna, salmon, yellowtail, and avocado - deep fried w/ a spicy sauce. I thought this roll was okay, didn't wow me. Overall, this is a staple sushi joint in Merced. It's definitely not the best, but it's good enough to have me coming back. For Merced, I'll give this four stars. Bay area would be a three. I go here fairly regularly and service is always consistent. Fam usually gets one of the lunch boxes of teriyaki chicken, and some veggie type rolls or some of their special rolls. Everything is fine. Given the area, without driving to fresno or north or to the bay, I'd say this is the best option in Merced for this type of food. Don't order the ramen... It's instant noodles. As far as sushi taste I wasn't a really big fan of the roll I got. It lacked flavors. If I can, I rather give this place a zero. The customer service is so poor that it affected my experience at the restaurant. Apparently the workers are speaking my native language, Hmong. They are comfortable enough to be talking out loud, speaking negatively about the dining in customers. I was not able to enjoy my food. Being in the Central Valley, there aren't many good sushi restaurants, but this one would have to be the best option out there. I've tried many of the foods here, like the bento boxes, rolls, sashimi, and udon and overall, they are pretty good quality especially for being in Merced. The sashimi cuts are decent; the freshness/quality of it could be better. The rolls are good, but I usually don't order them because they are very expensive for the amount given. My usual order is the chicken teriyaki bento box lunch special because it's fairly cheap and it's a big portion of food. The service here is average, depending on how crowded the place is and it usually does get crowded since the place is small and there isn't that much seating. Update, what an epic fail my dinner was here the other night. I really tried to like Sushi Cuisine, but I give up. I have eaten here four times with only one decent meal. The Chicken Teriyaki I ordered was overcooked, the tempura was some of the worst I had ever eaten, with a nasty thick batter. Everything was too salty. Sushi roll was so salty I could not finish it. The chicken Katsu was poorly battered, with traces of scrambled egg. What a half a@@ meal. Oh.. and poorly cooked rice (Come on!). I wonder why restaurant owners bother churning out crummy food like this? I have given Sushi Cuisine about $125 of my hard earned money over four meals. Ya no mas! read more

I really like this place. It is probably the best sushi place in Merced, but there isn't a lot of choices. The original 1 started in Turlock, which does pretty well. They have great customer service here and they serve your food pretty quickly. I like getting the Rainbow roll and the Cherry Blossom roll here. Their fish is pretty fresh and they have good sauce. Honestly pretty good for Merced. Only complaint is that the size of the sushi rolls are small. The maki rolls are very large; larger than I've seen, but also cost a little more, so all-in-all quite proportionate. The chicken katsu entre is a LOT of food. The chirashi bowl looked really good and looked pretty large, and the person in my group who got that said it was tasty. Our group didn't have a problem with service. We had called ahead to reserve a table so we were seated immediately. They're used to college kids so they didn't mind splitting the check for each person, which we appreciated. I have sushi cuisine sometimes once a week because their prices are so affordable and excellent quality. For lunch I get a #1 teriyaki chicken and it is fantastic. It comes with the chicken, tempura veggies, California roll, side salad and a side of rice. Also miso soup. All of this under 9 dollars. I'm just blown away. When it comes to sushi, cheap is not good. I ordered the salmon sashimi and brought it to work and the smell pretty much drove everyone out of the break room, not good.
