This is by far one of my favorite sushi spots in San Antonio. The lunch combo specials are reasonably priced. Coming from a sashimi lover, you can tell that their fish is always fresh. Very good miso soup! Tasted great. The soft shell crab tempura tasted great as well! The tornado potato was also a very interesting artwork. It's a spiral- shaped potato on a stick, also very good. The Don was an interesting twist on the chirashi. It was a simplified chirashi and I didn't realize that ordering it wouldn't be as simple as ordering a mixed sashimi. I requested for hamachi and unagi but got 2 orders of don instead of a mixed order. Not happy that I had to pay for 2 dons. Sushi Express is in a few words- delicious, authentic, inexpensive and cozy. It's the best sushi with regards to quality and price that I've found in San Antonio. The restaurants is very clean and both the staff and the owner are always super friendly! Typically we go for dinner and an occasional lunch on the weekend; that said we've never had to wait for a table! If you like fresh sushi but don't want to break the bank, I recommend Sushi Express. We went for dinner on Mother's Day and it was empty for the 4-9 dinner time. We received fast service and our server did come to check if we were ready to order multiple times but we needed some time to go over the menu first. We ordered the tempura appetizer and crab mix salad to start. The tempura was a bit sad looking but still tasted really good. I thought the crab mix salad was going to be like a Kani salad with shredded cucumber and carrots like I've normally seen but it was crab mix, sauces, masago and crunchies over a bed of lettuce salad mix. Still was really good just not what I was expecting. We got a Stone Oak roll and a "Rainbow dragon" roll. The stone oak roll was pretty good (even though there is a typo on the menu with the same roll twice). The rainbow dragon was also supposed to come with sauces on top but we received a normal Rainbow roll with no sauces or what was listed. We ended our night with a Oreo Tempura. We received 5 Oreos which I feel like is a generous amount (in a good way ) and one small scoop of ice cream. The Oreos were warm and had a good crunch to them. The dish was drizzled in chocolate and a fruit syrup. Overall I was wanting a nice mom and pop sushi place for Mother's Day and got what I asked for. I do wish the menu had a quick revision. I am going to come back to try the Korean dishes as I've been searching for a place that has jjajangmyeon! Next time I plan on getting Kimbap, jjajangmyeon, beef bulgogi and possibly some tteok-boki. read more

Dang it! I hate having a bad experience when I return to a place where I had such a good one before but it happened here. First off, the small place was packed on this Friday night. that is always great to see. For this place, that is bad for customers. Our Sushi "Express" experience took over 1.5 hours! "The sushi bar is backed up" was told to us multiple times. Here's what got my goat and ultimately tanked my experience. It took nearly 30 minutes to get our soup because they ran out and had to make more. Then other tables seated after us got their soups 10 minutes before us. "The sushi bar is backed up" yet 5 tables seated long after us received multiple rolls before we received our first. "Can I bring you another edamame while you wait?" Sure Drew (our server who must have been on his 2nd night) but then he charges us for it. The food is good but our server's lack of customer service experience killed it for me. Buying us 1 round of drinks and the "Hold us over edamame" could have salvaged this... Ultimately would have been a $10 discount on a $100 tab. The only thing we got free was the sake which we got for checking in on Yelp yet Drew acted as if he covered it saying, "I went ahead and gave you the sake free." Really? Gee, thanks for that solid. Again, good food here. The servers are all a bunch of high school aged kids who are friendly but in this case lacked customer experience knowledge. Once you become an irked customer you seem to make numerous observations in a tiny place like this such as 5 tables+ seated after you getting their food long before you. It was great to see this place packed. Unfortunately their sushi bar with just 2 sushi chefs couldn't handle the volume and Drew was clueless as to how to compensate for it. read more

The Sushi is really good, their other food, which is Koren food is good as well. The issue is. We have been coming here since November of 2018 and one or two times they have had two Sushi chefs, most times there is only one to prepare sushi for 15 tables. There are times when there is a long wait time for your food. read more

Pretty disappointed. The service and employees were great, no complaints there... The food was just blah. The miso soup was awesome and even the white rice was perfect and fluffy. The sushi flavors were just ok...the bulgogi was ok (kid option 1) and the sesame chicken was ok (kid option 2) The Sonterra Roll tasted so greasy and oily...the Dragon Roll was pretty basic. Wow! Great place! I have been here about 4-5 times now, and each time is a pleasant experience! I have ordered mainly the korean dishes. I must say, they give you a variety and abundance of side dishes (if you order a stew if I'm not mistaken) and they are phenomenal! The kimchi (side dish) is so so delicious! The last time I ordered the kimchi jjigae, and it was a little sweeter, less sour than I'm used to... but after 3 bites I realized that this the kimchi jjigae for me! I also recommend the tteokboki as an appetizer. This is the only place where it is cooked to perfection, and the sauce is not overwhelming. I took off a star because this it is a little pricer than other korean restaurants for the portion served. read more

One of my favorite places to eat sushi in stone oak, we love the stone oak roll and the beef bignoli* (don't know if I spelled it correctly), also has a good variety of sauces with entrees. This place used to be our favorite Japanese restaurant in San Antonio every time we came to town, even when it is a little out of the way. Our all time favorite was the grill salmon bento, and the seachest roll. This past Wednesday we stopped by again and ordered the same dish. The two salmon bentos we ordered were totally different than before, they have the 'refrigerator' taste, wasn't properly grilled, and the rice was too soggy. The seachest roll, on the other hand, were 'over-sauced', looked and taste totally different that the seachest roll we ordered before. I will not return to this place again. read more

The sushi was so great! Very please with my first sushi dinner after being pregnant for 10 months! The staff was very friendly and the menu had a wide selection of sushi it was hard to choose. Stopped back on a Saturday evening after kayaking. I was pretty hungry and wanted something quick. They might as well call this place Sushi Snails because of how long it took. It wasn't a complicated order. After 10 minutes of waiting outside, I want back in and was told there had been a printer problem and the order was just starting. Then I wait another 10 minutes before going back to check again. Another 5 to 7 I'm told. So I wait another 10. And check again: it's almost done. I wait another 10 before it's done. 40 minutes for takeout? Are you serious? Was the food good? Yeah, it was. Had kimchi which was great. They don't have veggie gyoza or I would have gotten that. Had one spring roll which is all you get for $2. Had an ok sushi roll. Meanwhile, I could have just gone to HEB for sushi: the rolls are larger, it's cheaper, and it's definitely faster than Sushi Snails. read more

The price is right, they have a great selection. My mom ordered Bibimbap and I ordered sushi. We will be going back to try what else they have to offer. The name is the only negative. I think it sounds like grocery store or pre-made sushi. It's unfortunate, but get over it. We first went there after a friend urged us to give it a try. He had spent 3 years in Korea and told us this place is "for real". This is a small family run business - I like that too. They are always sweet and very conscientious. The owner has been there every time ... and he cares about your experience. They have a variety of Japanese and Korean items on the menu. Everything we have eaten there has been fantastic. Honestly though, I have a hard time convincing myself to order anything other than the stone pot bibimbap because OH MY it is fantastic. The rice gets the perfect crispy crusty outer layer in that super hot pot. I love the toppings and side accoutrements. It's perfect. I may go there right now! read more

I came to this place with my girlfriend. She loves coming here for one of their dishes. We ordered the LA Galbi Lunch bento box. The galbi was good. Good flavor. We also ordered the Yukgae-Jang (Spicy Beef Noodle soup) and it was good. I was a little caught by surprise on the fact that there was no noddles. It did come with rice on the side. It was bean sprouts, green beans and vegetables with shreds of beef. It was not what I expected but flavor wise it was good. I would have preferred it to be with noodles but still good. We also ordered the San Antonio Roll and for the price it was good. The texture of the avocado helped smooth out the roll. It was well balanced. I would recommend ordering it read more

I don't doubt that this restaurant is good but I've order from here through postmates 3 times and every time they give me the smallest sushi roll. It's like a snack seriously. It cost way to much to only receive 8 tiny pieces of sushi. When you dine in the restaurant you get this long plate of sushi that is huge. When you order delivery it seems to be rolled much smaller and you get less pieces. I'm assuming it is because of the very small black to go boxes they use. I think they give you less because it doesn't won't all fit inside of their to go packages. I'm super disappointed because I've tried them 3 times and still ended up disappointed and wasted money. Sushi is not cheap and they should give you the proper amount. It's a rip-off. I'll stick to Yellowfish Sushi & Sushishima. read more

Love this place! Before COVID-19 I had actually never visited this but decided to give it a shot when farther places that I normally went to were closed for dine-in. They are super friendly, the food is amazing and the fish is super fresh. After two times the lady upfront remembered me and would chat with me and this is something I saw her do with other people. My husband and I order delivery from here a few times a month. They offer great customer service and I like that they have a large selection of different styles of Asian food. He prefers Chinese-American food so he gets the sesame chicken, which is a healthy portion size and I like that it comes with broccoli and carrots. I love their Korean and Japanese food so I often order the Bulgogi or a sushi roll. The delivery fee is only a couple bucks so it's a pretty good deal when we're super busy or just don't feel like going out. If you're in this part of town do not waste your time trying out other places-- sushi express has it down! read more

The freshest fish I've ever had ay a sushi restaurant. I don't know what it is about the fish Sushi Express uses, but I've never had a comparable sushi anywhere else.
